Burning DMG File To DVD

I am trying to burn Adobe CS4 dmg file to DVD as a back up. The size is 6.9GB so I am using a Dual Layered DVD which is at least 8GB. For some reason when I try to burn the dmg to DVD I get a message saying "disk doesn't have enough space. Am I doing something wrong? Here are the steps I took...
1) Inserted blank DVD
2) Added DMG file to Disk Utility
3) Highlighted DMG file within Disk Utility and chose the burn option from the menu
This method has worked previously with a 6GB dmg file of iLife using the same exact blank Dual Layered DVD. Also, FYI I am running 10.5.5 Thanks for any help. It's greatly appreciated.

Are you expanding the DMG (you don't want to)? Incidentally, the iLife copy is different than what you are doing. Are you trying to copy the CS4 disk? If so, DU can make an image for you, of the disk. Make certain you save it as a "master", not "encrypted", or any other choice. Then, as you explain, select it, and hit burn.

  • Burning AVI files to DVD

    Can someone please recommend a freeware or open source program to burn AVI files to DVD?
    Thanks in advance for any help!

    Credit BGreg for:
    There are a number of ways to turn an avi into a DVD viewable on a normal DVD player. You need to convert, or render, the avi file to a DVD image and then burn it onto the DVD. Here are a few ways to do that:
    Using included Apple iLife apps, you can import an avi file into iMovie, passing it on to iDVD for making the DVD, which includes menu's.
    Commercial programs Popcorn 2 and Toast 7 from Roxio are good for converting different file types to DVD, and give you more options than the included Apple iLife programs.
    You can use programs like MPEG streamclip, truly the video Swiss army knife for video stream conversion, and DVD imager to burn the image. Both are available through http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx
    When you burn your DVD, using quality DVD's will maximize the chances that your DVD player will play them (I tend to use TDK when available on sale). Unless you have a pretty new external DVD player, you should probably stick with DVD-R or DVD+R disks. DVD-RW probably won't work in older DVD players. I've used both -R and +R's successfully.

  • HT5839 Will it help to burn ts file on dvd

    Maverick osx will it help to burn ts file on dvd to make dvd playable on other DVDs?

    Yes. You would first need to out put a VIDEO_TS folder from FCPX (if that's possible). I can't help you much there since I use the Adobe Premiere Pro suite.
    But once you have a completed VIDEO_TS folder, you can use Toast Titanium to burn your disks. Unless a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements that is two versions back and the other weak software bundle items interest you, don't waste you money on the shovelware of the Pro version.
    You do need to purchase a plugin in order to burn DVD and Blu-ray video disks.
    You don't need to output an AUDIO_TS folder. As you'll notice, they're always empty. They're a holdover from way back at the beginning of DVD movies where the audio actually was in that folder. The only reason any software creates that folder now is for backward compatibility with old DVD players that won't play a disk if that folder isn't present - even though it's empty. Toast will automatically always add an AUDIO_TS folder to your disk when you drop in the video folder to burn a disk.

  • Need help booting from DMG file without DVD drive

    okay so i have 6 computers with me right now. i need to use one that has a dvd drive to install it on a comp that doesnt via firewire.
    1- macbook with superdrive and os 10.5 (cant even open tiger install because its a new macbook
    2-iBook g4 with DVD drive BUT the firewire port is broken
    3-iBook g3 (one that needs tiger but only has a cd drive)
    4-ibook g3 (without dvd drive)
    5-powerbook g4 with dvd drive and firewire (for some reason will not read the tiger discs i just burned, even though ive already used them on the ibook g4
    6-mac pro with firewire and dvd drive, but the dvd drive is broken.
    so seems to me, every computer i have has a weakness for exactly what i need. what i need to know now is if i can boot the powerbook g4 from a DMG file of tiger install disc 1 and install is to the target ibook through firewire. if you have any suggestions on what i should try with the supplies mentioned above, please inform me. thanks!

    what i need to know now is if i can boot the powerbook g4 from a DMG file of tiger install disc 1 and install is to the target ibook through firewire.
    You can't unless the PowerBook is running Mac OS X Server, in which case the NetInstall feature can be used.

  • Can I burn .dmg files on a PC?

    Hello. I'd like to know if anyone here has any ideas on how to burn .dmg or .img files on a PC.

    I guess that means they are not going to work as copies of the installer CDs.
    Do you have the facility to make the copies on a Mac?  That would be your best bet.  You can make copies on a Mac as follows:
    Duplicate a CD or DVD
    1. Insert the DVD/CD;
    2. Open Disk Utility, and select the DVD/CD from the left side list (select the DVD/CD icon on top);
    3. from the DU File menu select New | Disk Image from Disk 1;
    4. Choose to format the disk image as DVD/CD Master, name the disk image and click Save;
    5. When the .cdr file is finished select it with mouse and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info and check the box to lock the file;
    6. Choose the .cdr file from the left side list, click Burn, and insert a new, blank DVD or CD.

  • Unable to burn DMG files to CDs on external USB2 disc burners?

    Hello.
    I am having difficulties burning 88.x MB DMG files to CDs (new CD-Rs and an old CD-RW) onto two different external USB2 disc burner drives (both have power AC connected: HP and LG Super brands). The new Mac Mini (no disc slot drive)'s updated 64-bit Mac OS X 10.7.4's Disk Utilities tries to burn and then fail right away or after a few seconds. The error says "Unable to burn 'whatever.dmg' (The disc drive did not respond properly and can't recover or retry." Nothing interesting in dmesg, but Disk Utility's logs had details: http://pastie.org/private/6tnqcnkwycr2yftp8gkzxw ...
    I do see my drives' lights on during the burn. I can quick erase the old CD-RW fine. I can burn 538 MB from an 64-bit Windows 8 on my Acer AM3800 PC with the same discs and external burner drives without any problems. Also, I thought it was my USB cable extension, but it wasn't it. I don't use any USB hubs either. DMG files are fine too. I did notice copying from a CD to Mac Mini's local HDD was slow, but no failures.
    What could be the problem? Is USB2 too slow or something? Thank you in advance.

    Did you look at...
    ~/Library/Logs/DiscRecording.log
    USB2 is slow, but not that slow, but have you tried reducing the burn speed?
    At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Disk Burning & report what it says, like ...

    If /tmp is missing, it's easy to make a new one by following these steps:
    Mac OS X 10.3 or later
    Recreate the missing /tmp link by using the Disk Utility application to repair permissions on your Mac OS X startup volume.

  • Burning .dmg file from Windows computer

    If I create an iDVD project and save it as a .dmg file (instead of burning it right away), can that file then be burned to a DVD from ANY computer--Windows or Mac?
    I'll be away from my external DVD burner (only have the combo drive in my PB) and want to be able to use a Windows computer at work to burn the final DVD.
    Is this possible? If so, will it still burn a regular playable video DVD?

    Doesn't sound like image files are universal (take a look at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.img). But, why not give it a try? You'll need some method to transport that large file that's also cross-platform (perhaps create a tiny trial project).

  • Burning dmg/iso to DVD - Help!!

    What's up guys,
    well.. I made a .dmg file from my mac os x snow leopard.. I know how to make a boot of mac os x from a pen drive..
    Now I'd like to burn the .dmg file to a DVD to boot it from the DVD.
    what should I do?
    thanks everyone!

    I'm fairly sure that a bootable DVD has to be specially constructed for this purpose, as is the case for a Mac OS X install disc and for various commercial products. You can't just install OS X onto a partition, clone an image of it and burn the image to a DVD, and then successfully boot from the DVD. When a "normal" version of OS X boots, it needs to write to its startup volume to create needed caches, swap files, configuration files, etc. It could not do so if the startup volume is read-only, as would be the case for a DVD.

  • Burning MP3 files to DVD

    I have both a Compaq and a MacBook. My iTunes library is on my Compaq wiht Windows XP. I want to transfer the files to the Mac. I tried a PC Linq program which didn't work and my Compaq doesn't have a firewire port. Can I burn the library to DVD and transfer it that way or does it have to be CD? It is rather large and I'm looking for the easiest, fastest, and cheapest way possible.

    DVD is fine. (use the "burn data CD" option even though it's a data DVD you'll be making.)

  • Burning mov file to DVD

    I am trying to burn my mov file to DVD. It keeps telling me that there is not enough space on the DVD even though the DVD states that it has 1 hour for HQ, 2 hours for SP, 4 hours for LP. The sequence is about 90 minutes.

    You will need to set encoding to VBR and the lower the bitrate until your content can fit onto an SL DVD or opt for a DL DVD. Where are you encoding? DVDSP or Compressor?

  • How do i burn data files to dvd

    im trying to burn a large pdf file onto a dvd and im not quite sure how to start..... help!!!

    It's probably best to point you at the help file for instructions.
    Click on the Desktop so that you are in Finder and from the Help menu search 'Burn a CD or DVD'. All the options are there.

  • Burning QuickTime files to DVD--help!

    Hi--I use my Kodak camera to take QuickTime video. I've got all of my videos edited and saved onto CDs, so there is no problem viewing them from my computer using the QuickTime player.
    I'd like to burn these to DVD to share with family. I've downloaded a couple of freeware programs that convert them to .VOB files without any problem (winavi and dvdsanta both seemed to do the job just fine).
    So...can anyone recommend a good, cheap DVD burner so I can burn the files? Also, the whole +/- RW thing is a mystery to me. I'm afraid that I'll end up buying a burner, only to make DVDs that don't play on my TV (this has already happened to a friend of mine.) How do I know what format to use?
    If anyone can advise I'd be very grateful. Thank you!!

  • Changing compression to burn large file in DVD

    How can I burn an overlarge file onto DVD? I have tried changing the compression dettnga and, after 3.5 hours, the complression was completed but know I neither know where the compressed file is nor how to to complete the burn.

    What exactly are you referring to? Are you talking about making a video DVD with iDVD? Are you burning Data through the finder or using a program like Toast? Your post is rather vague on the details of what you are trying to do and what you are doing it with. Please post back with the nitty gritties.

  • Burning xvid file to dvd?

    i have some old college film projects in xvid format. i'd like to burn them to a dvd that i can watch on my parent's dvd player. how might i go about doing that?

    Most likely by jumping through some hoops.
    A late model DVD player (DivX compatible) may play them directly if it's already on a disc.
    If not you will have to convert them to a format that iMovie uses (DV Stream) and use iMovie to make a DVD. There are other ways but these apps should be on your Mac already.
    Try this conversion app, it's free:
    http://www.squared5.com/
    If this does not do the trick search the net for an Xvid to DV Stream converter.
