Burning dmg/iso to DVD - Help!!

What's up guys,
well.. I made a .dmg file from my mac os x snow leopard.. I know how to make a boot of mac os x from a pen drive..
Now I'd like to burn the .dmg file to a DVD to boot it from the DVD.
what should I do?
thanks everyone!

I'm fairly sure that a bootable DVD has to be specially constructed for this purpose, as is the case for a Mac OS X install disc and for various commercial products. You can't just install OS X onto a partition, clone an image of it and burn the image to a DVD, and then successfully boot from the DVD. When a "normal" version of OS X boots, it needs to write to its startup volume to create needed caches, swap files, configuration files, etc. It could not do so if the startup volume is read-only, as would be the case for a DVD.

  • Burning DMG File To DVD

I am trying to burn Adobe CS4 dmg file to DVD as a back up. The size is 6.9GB so I am using a Dual Layered DVD which is at least 8GB. For some reason when I try to burn the dmg to DVD I get a message saying "disk doesn't have enough space. Am I doing something wrong? Here are the steps I took...
    1) Inserted blank DVD
    2) Added DMG file to Disk Utility
    3) Highlighted DMG file within Disk Utility and chose the burn option from the menu
This method has worked previously with a 6GB dmg file of iLife using the same exact blank Dual Layered DVD. Also, FYI I am running 10.5.5 Thanks for any help. It's greatly appreciated.

Are you expanding the DMG (you don't want to)? Incidentally, the iLife copy is different than what you are doing. Are you trying to copy the CS4 disk? If so, DU can make an image for you, of the disk. Make certain you save it as a "master", not "encrypted", or any other choice. Then, as you explain, select it, and hit burn.

  • Burning QuickTime files to DVD--help!

Hi--I use my Kodak camera to take QuickTime video. I've got all of my videos edited and saved onto CDs, so there is no problem viewing them from my computer using the QuickTime player.
I'd like to burn these to DVD to share with family. I've downloaded a couple of freeware programs that convert them to .VOB files without any problem (winavi and dvdsanta both seemed to do the job just fine).
So...can anyone recommend a good, cheap DVD burner so I can burn the files? Also, the whole +/- RW thing is a mystery to me. I'm afraid that I'll end up buying a burner, only to make DVDs that don't play on my TV (this has already happened to a friend of mine.) How do I know what format to use?
If anyone can advise I'd be very grateful. Thank you!!

  • Burn CD iso's to DVD

Can you burn CD isos to DVDs without modification?
Ran outta media today, and as DVD-R prices are nearly equal with those of CD-R's, so I figure I might as well just buy myself some DVD-R's instead...

The same ISO file is fine. However, you have to use growisofs to burn it instead of cdrecord (wodim).

  • Disk Utility - create ISO Data DVD image for burning?

Which are the exact options in Disk Utility that I need to select, in order to create an ISO DVD Data image that will be readable by PCs and Macs alike?
I have looked on the web and in the help but am none the wiser due to lack of an explanation of the options
Format: Mac OS Extended (journaled),...,MS-DOS (FAT)
Partitions:Single partition - Apple Partition Map,...,Single Partition CD/DVD with ISO data
If you cannot point me in the direction of some decent documentation, please just tell me which options I need to select to create an ISO Data DVD
    Thanks

    Try this link.
Basically, you can drag a folder into the list on the left. Then, with the folder selected, click New Disk Image from the toolbar at the top (not sure of the exact wording, but it's something along those lines). Make sure to select ISO from the pop-up menu.
Also try this article to convert a DMG to ISO.

  • I just finished creating a movie in IMovie and now want to burn it to a DVD and make it loop.  Since I just purchased this IMac it no longer comes with IDVD.  My question is how to burn and loop a dvd without IDVD.  Thanks for any help.

I just finished creating a movie using IMovie and want to burn it to a DVD and loop it.  Since I just purchased this mac it looks like they no longer include IDVD.  Is there something out there to help me do this.  I am new to MAC and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

There is free open source software called Burn that will burn DVDs. Here is a link.
If you wish to pay for software, there are many, including TOAST TITANIUM from Roxio. Apple's retail copy of iLife 11, and Apple's Compressor.
Of these, I would say that iDVD is known for being able to create very professional looking DVDs with intros, menus, lots of interesting templates.
Toast is much simpler and the menus and templates are more plain.
Compressor is a professional tool that does a lot more than make DVDs. Don't expect much in the way of menus or templates.
Burn, I have never tried, since I have iDVD and Toast for those ocasions when I need to burn a DVD. However, since it is free, I think it is worth a try.
Each software package is a little different, but in general, in iMovie, you can use the SHARE menu to SHARE/MOVIE in Large size. Save the movie to your desktop or someplace you can easily find it. Then drag it into the tool of your choice. You can alsouse SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER/LARGE if you have iDVD or Toast.

  • Unable to boot on Mac Mini from DVD burned from .iso image

I'm following the Beginner's Guide to try and install Arch on a Mac Mini "Late 2009".
I have downloaded archlinux-2014.10.01-dual.iso and associated .sig, and have verified it using the gpg2 command described in the guide (including the link to http://sparewotw.wordpress.com/2012/10/ … -sig-file/ which gave some assurance that the ambiguous answer produced by gpg2 was in fact legitimate).
I then used OSX's Disk Utility to burn the .iso file to a blank DVD. After verifying the burn, it ejected the disk.
When I re-inserted it, I received a message that the disk was unmountable, giving me the option to Ignore or Eject. I chose Ignore. Then I went to the System Preferences > Startup Disk, to see if it would at least appear there as an option, but it didn't.
(I should mention that I also burned the same file to another disk using a Windows machine, and when I inserted it into the Mac I got the same message, so I don't think it's corrupted media. (Bad reader, perhaps? eek.) )
That's where I stand. There are so many variables at play here (many of them Apple-induced, I think) that I've been unable to find a solution that fits my situation. Could someone please provide suggestions / pointers / answer?
    Thanks,
    Chap

Exactly right. Holding the Option key caused a display of various bootable OSes, including the one I had just burned from the Mac using hdiutil (weirdly entitled "windows"). I selected it, and it booted. I now have a console. Problem solved. Thanks.
UPDATE: note that this boot disk *cannot* be seen or selected via the OSX System Preference > Startup Disk panel. Holding the Option key during startup seems to be the only way to select it.

  • Burn mp3's to DVD. Help!!!

I record Bible lectures for my Mom to listen to. If I continuously record I will split the tracts up, using audacity, into various talks and save as mp3's. They import into iTunes just fine and I can even burn them to CD's for her to use.
My problem is that she is older and has no computer, and does not want to learn anything else other than if they will work in her DVD player. The CD's work just fine, but it takes quite a lot some times. I have tried to burn them to a DVD, but it will not work.
Her player does read mp3's, even from the CD's I have burned in the past. I was hoping to get them all on 1 or 2 DVD's instead of the multiple CD's that it is taking now.
Is there a suggestion as to what I can use to get the mp3's onto a DVD that will work? I have used several setting within iTunes but so far I have not been successful.
    Thanks for everyones help.

    Use iTunes.
Do it as you normally burn an MP3 CD except select Data CD/DVD.
Make sure you add only MP3 files to this playlist.

  • Flash drives, DVD drives, DMG, ISOs, no longer work

Starting in the past week, a number of our users (40+) are no longer able to use flash drives, dvd, drives, dmgs, ISOs, etc.  They do not mount at all.  The system claims that there are no mountable file systems.
We have imaged a brand new computer and it reads everything just fine.  After we do a full software update, the aforementioned items no longer work.  This has been repeated and confirmed a couple times throughout the day.  This is on OS X Mountain Lion on MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac Minis.  We have imaged and tested it on all 3 systems with the same result, running a certain part of software update seems to be breaking file system mounting.
Has anyone else witnessed this today, any one in Apple care to chime in?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.

Been trying to burn a movie onto DVD and get this "The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media" Anybody know what it means and what to do? Help! Thanks

It generally means that the media is faulty or of poor quality. Most of us here use Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden media.

Your Superdrive may need a clean.

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.
