Burning dvd of photos

I made an iDVD using photos and tried to burn it to a DVD-R. For some reason I'm getting this error- There are no video tracks defined in the current project, error in product structure. Im new to using iDVD, can someone tell me what I need to do? Thanks

Hello Shanah,
give us some more info on your iDVD project:
how did you import the photos into iDVD? Did you create a slideshow in iPhoto or iDVD (or maybe iMovie)?
if you create your slideshow in iDVD, you should click the slideshow button at the bottom of the iDVD window, which adds a title to your menu (My Slideshow). By double-clicking that you open the slideshow viewer with a message saying "drag photos here". you can either add them from a finder window or drag them from the media pane.
if you created the slideshow in iPhoto, I would suggest you export it via Quicktime, then import it into iDVD choosing File > Import > Video. Now select your QT movie.
hope this helps

    Thanks for the follow up.
In Premiere Elements 13/13.1, your export choices are in the Publish+Share section of the project. There are several choices and sub-choices.
Example: Publish+Share/Computer/and then a list of choices under that, such as, MPEG, AVI, AVCHD, XAVC-S, Windows Media, QuickTime, Image, Audio.
And each has Presets which define the export settings. Adobe offers default settings which are usually optimized ones. But, it also allows you to customize the preset selected. You do that by clicking on the Advanced Button of the selected preset and customizing the settings under the Video Tab, Audio Tab, and, if applicable, Multiplexer Tab.
From what you wrote, I thought that you might be asking about exporting a video with a video codec = Photo JPEG.
To do that you would to to
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    QuickTime
with Presets = either the one for 4:3 of 16:9 as appropriate for your project,
and then clicking on the Advanced Button, and then the Video Tab under the Advanced Button.
Then selecting Photo JPEG for the video codec field.
Tip: The QuickTime choice is not seen unless you scroll down the list of Computer choices. Use the thin scroll bar to the right of the Computer choices.
Please explore Premiere Elements 13/13.1's Publish+Share/Disc/DVD with standard or widescreen preset for your creation of the DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc.
The Premiere Elements timeline destined for this choice could consistent of supported photos and or videos.
    Please consider.
Any questions and need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.

Have used large format, but using the 'burn' software, I am not getting seamless video quality on DVD even though I am burning at 2* speed. Any ideas? Do I need better software? Or is there a problem with the SuperDrive?

Darned if I know. What exactly are you doing?
The general answer is to select the photo(s) in iPhoto and export to a desktop folder (file menu ==> export). In the finder right click on that folder and burn to disk

  • Out of focus photos after burning dvd.

I am using Magic iDVD in iDVD 08. Have created a movie with photos imported from iPhoto. All appears to be well when I preview the movie prior to burning it (i.e. photos are clear and sharp, and burning process appears to go as it should). But when I view the burned DVD all the photos are quite out of focus. This occurs whether I watch the DVD on my iMac or TV. Am using Philips DVD-R discs. Have tried different encoding settings with no difference in results.

It looks to me like the flash fired for the shot, but the camera also kept the shutter open for a fairly long time to reach optimum exposure.  Can you check and see how long the exposure was?  It appears that the bright, flashed parts of the photo are sharp, so I don't think it's an optical problem.  The flash froze some of the image, but handheld camera shake created the blurring.  Try a similar shot on a solid tripod.  Or reset the exposure so that it's short enough to handhold and try again.  I'll often do dusk or nighttime shots on aperture priority setting with a flash to light up someone in the foreground.  The shutter stays open long enough to light up the dark, unflashed areas in the background, leading to a long exposure, so I have to use a tripod and have a model that can stay very still.  Otherwise the photos end up looking like your shot.  As far as saving the photo that you posted--it would take a huge amount of effort by someone that's very good with Photoshop.

I made a DVD with photo's and music. On my Powerbook G4 he plays perfect. But after burning the project on my LaCie d2 lightscribe and showing the project on my TV than: after 10 min. the music stops for a few seconds. On the screen of the DVD-player I can see that after the word 'play' the clock starts again with counting the time. I tried everything: * burning slow. * all programs stopped, except iDVD. * all other apparature uncoupled. Is this a problem of my iDVD-program or my LaCie burner?

mishmumken is correct about the 99 slides.  There's an 99 chapter limit in each slideshow for DVDs and each photo is considered a chapter.  iDVD gets around that by renaming slide 100 back to 1 and goes on.
The pause can be minimized (but not eliminated) by burning to disk at the slowest speed available: usually 4x or 2x.  Save the project to disk (File ➙ Save to Disk menu option) and play the disk image with DVD player to check out the transition at 99 and 198.  Then burn the disk image to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed possible.  Also use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Photos are fuzzy after I burn DVD

My photos look fine in iPhoto and the iDVD preview prior to burning, but when I looked at the final product all the photos were fuzzy ... out of focus.
This is the first time I've created a project in iDVD. What did I do wrong?
    Thanks.

It has several uses, actually. Do you mean one of these?

  • Unable to burn cds or view photos on burned dvd on new (feb 2011) MBP.

I have been unsuccessful in burning photo CDs.  It goes through the whole process and then at the end tells me that it was unable to complete the burn.  I use my old PC to burn the cds because I need the space on my camera.  I forgot about this until today when my photographer gave me a burned DVD of the photos she took of my kids.  The MBP says I inserted a blank dvd.  I went back to her and she pulled them all up on her PC.  I am new to Mac and am feeling like I wasted a ton of money because I have to keep going back to the old pc for all the things I wanted to do on a faster, newer computer

had a similar issue about it "not responding properly" and i went back to apple and got a new superdrive put in and have had no problems since.

quand je grave un diaporama fait sur iMovie sur un DVD les photos, que je fais bouger par le système Ken Burns ont des tremblements importants qui diminuent la netteté de la photo. Pouvez-vous m'aider ? Merci

    Hi
Google translate: When I burn a slideshow made on iMovie onto a DVD pictures, I'm moving through the system Ken Burns tremors significant decrease the sharpness of the picture. Can you help me? thank you
Not 100% sure of Your problem but
    • Ken-Burns effect = enlargment and movement = quality loss dep. on enlarging the picture
    • Using iMovie'08 to 11 for a resulting DVD = quality loss = as non of them can deliver 100% interlaced SD-video over to iDVD - loss is made when going from Event's (or iPhoto) to Project's and can not be mended later
    • Shakiness (tremor) - can also depend on wrong frame per second rate (PAL = 25fps and NTSC = 29.97 (30)fps (SECAM = 25fps))
    • Using the anti-shake/stabilize function in iMovie also depends on up-scaling the picture to try to follow motions to lessen the shakes = picture quality loss
    So I use
    • iMovie HD6 - or -
    • FinalCut (any version)
    • FotoMagico™
as I find DVDs made via these and iDVD to be so much better.
Please use English - as this is the forum common denominator so that all that can help will try and many many more can benefit from the answers. It's better that You use Google translate and see if translation works than that the rest of the world will have to guess what's it all about.

  • Photos blank when burning DVD

I am trying to export photos from iPhoto and burn them onto DVD. The process goes fine, but when I reinsert the DVD, the photos all look blank. The keywords are there, and it shows 2272 photos, but they are all blank. Thanks for your help!

Sure. I'm selecting the photos I want (about 2270, 2.8 GB) and going to Share - Burn disc. I put in a blank DVD - then the whole process goes smoothly. But when I reinsert the DVD, it shows up in iphoto with all 2270 blank photos!

  • Line of copy at top of photo in burned dvd at intervals.

I did a slide show in Iphoto.  Added some text slides for birthdays.   The I shared to IDVD and after reviewing the settings burned the DVD.
I get the following line at the top of the first slide and it pops up periodically during the slide show on the HD-TV I view on.   the line of copy is
(Icon of a piece of film) 1  (music note) 1:LPCM 48khz/16Bit MBPS
How do you remove from the slide show or prevent it from getting on there in the first place?
    Thanks

Why is the disc image fine but at least one of the burned DVD's, but not all, from the disc image having audio drift?
As I read what you wrote, you evaluated a disk image and had no problems, then made changes to the project involving the audio track and now have problems.
The 'drift' sure sounds like the 12-bit vs. 16-bit audio problem. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300741

  • Is it possible to create a DVD of photos that will play on a television?

Is it possible to create a DVD of photos from iPhoto that will play on a television?

Yes.  You'll need a video DVD authoring application like iDVD and an external optical drive. I suggest a 3rd party optical drive as the Apple Superdrive is limited to USB 2 which has rather slow through put.  Get one with USB 3 or FW.
Export a slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.  Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Or open iDVD, select a theme, create a slideshow in iDVD and add the photos from iPhoto via the Media Browser in iDVD.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
There are simpler (in features) video DVD authoring applications available from the App Store.

  • Video quality of burned DVD way inferior to content viewed in iDVD program

I notice the video and menu quality on my burned DVD is VASTLY inferior to video and menu quality when viewing menus and content in the iDVD program while building the presentation.
Having encoded at "Professional Quality" to a single layer DVD which didn't look so good, a number of posts in this forum suggested that "Best Performance" actually renders the best video quality.
I'm using high-quality media from Verbatim so that's not a problem. The DVD's burn fine.
The content -- all high-quality QT movies with great resolution, color and crisp text and animation, look great in and of themselves, and when viewed in the iDVD program. The menus and clips embedded in the scene select buttons, all look crisp and clean.
Burned to DVD however, the video looks noticeably "worn" and the clips in the buttons lack any kind of crispness or resolution. Definitely disappointing. The animations look herky-jerky.
Anyone know what the problem is?

    Hi
No iDVD has a fixed quality - as old time TVs
    • PAL 625 lines (720x576)
    • NTSC 520 lines (720x480)
so Your Mac screen are way higher resolution.
There are NO HD version of iDVD - yet
    *DVD bad quality*
copy of an answer on a similar question - may be of help
    the iMovie 08 & 09 don't apply
There are two problems in this question.
    • iDVD
    • iMovie'08 or 09
iDVD - can only handle Standard definition TV quality - NO version can handle HD !
    SD-TV
EU - PAL system = 625 lines analog display (no pixles) 25fps
US - NTSC system = 520 lines and 29.97 fps
That's the best iDVD can do.
iMovie up to version HD 6 - could handle interlaced video (displaying every second line
first then start over with the rest - 25fps = 50 frames of interlaced video
    less flickering.
iMovie'08 and 09 has destroyed this by deleting every second line
    Result a resolution of
    PAL 312 lines
    NTSC 260 lines
So photos displayed this way will look crappy.
    Improvment
Use iMovie HD 6 or FinalCut Express or Pro
Else only way I know of to get "full" quality is by using other tools all together.
Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro (incl BR-component) and here the included FotoMagico™ for SlideShows.
Toast™ also can burn Blue-Ray - even on standard DVD (but much less eg 20 min movie)
These BR-DVDs Can only be playbacked on a Blue-Ray Player (eg PlayStation 3)
    But they look super.
A more specific part reg. FinalCut
I do in FC-Express or Pro
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Not selfcontained (not important but saves time and spaces)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (Important)
    I use
    • Verbatim DVD-R disks
    • Burn at a reduced speed x1 or x4 recommended by many)
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on internal boot hard disk for 4x3 SD video
and my guess is that I would secure 5 - 6 times more for 16x9 HD
(Still no version of iDVD can do HD)
