Burning dvd9

Hi,
I'm having a problem burning a DVD9 project to a DVD9 disc using Toast.
After building my project using DVDSP4 (without getting any error messages), I 've tried 3 times burning the video_ts and audio_ts to a DVD9 disc. Every time I get the following error message:
"THE DRIVE REPORTED AN ERROR: SENSE KEY=ILLEGAL REQUEST. SENSE CODE=0x72, 0x03. SESSION FIXATION ERROR - INCOMPLETE TRACK IN SESSION" After the message, the burning process continues, and verification is completed without any other error messages.
The discs work fine on one of my players but won't play at all at the other one.
I've tried some different settings including "OTP" and "PTP" and switched between automatic/self specified breakpoints, but it doesn't seem to solve my problem.
Could anybody tell me what might be the problem. I've been told that it should be possible to burn DVD9 discs for replication and that I don't need a DLT Drive to do so.
Thanks in advance.

As for removing certain files from the VIDEO_TS Folder, that's new to me. Which files should be removed?
Check the manual, sorry, can't refer you to a specific page as I'm away from manual. It describes what and why to remove the files that are present in VIDEO_TS but that need to be removed. Not sure if this is why you are getting the error or not, though. Verbatim and LaCie are probably not to blame.
Also, go to LaCie website and make sure you have updated version of their optical disc software.

How important is the dual layer DVD? I am trying to decide between the 15 Inch and the 17 inch.
Also, what factors should I consider deciding between the 100 gig 7200 hard drive and the 120 gig 5400.
    Thanks Much,

a dual layer drive is only important if you need to be able to burn DVD9 discs which hold just over 8GB. also the drive is 4x faster of course.
the 4x dvd can only burn single layer discs, which hold 4.7GB.
i have a 7200rpm HDD only because i need it for maximum performance in Logic Pro.
so for audio and/or video editing i would say they are important factors. i'm sure there are other factors to consider but you have not mentioned what you want to use the MacBook Pro for, so i can only speculate.

  • How to manually create layer breaking point for DVD9

Hello, I was wondering if someone could please tell me how I would go about to manually set the layer break point for a DVD9 project that I burned onto 2 DLT tapes. The total size of the DVD is 6.3GB.
I had used the "automatic" setting for burning the DLTs and sent them to a replicator. They came back saying that the layer 0 tape did not allow enough headroom for their Ripguard protection.
I've always used the automatic setting and this is the first time I am asked to manually set it. SO now I need to figure out how I can put a certain amount of data on one DLT tape and the rest on the other DLT.
I am a beginner at this so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Hi Eric,
Unfortunately the information you have regarding RipGuard and the ability to copy RipGuard protected discs is a little outdated.
Can RipGuard be broken? Yes, anything can be broken into, including the DoD Website by 14 yr old chinese students... but that doesn't mean there isn't value in protecting the DVD.
Also, RipGuard is regularly updated, just like Antivirus software, so while older versions of RipGuard can be broken more easily, the latest versions of RipGuard are significantly more difficult to circumvent by existing software.
But again, the point isn't to create the unbreakable 'holy grail' DVD copy protection, but rather to protect something of value.
When you leave your house in the morning, do you close your front door and lock it? Of course you do, but why? So no one will break in. But do you think locking up your house is really going to stop someone from going around to the side of the house and busting out a window if they really want to get in? Of course it wont. If someone wants to break into your house, they will find a way.
Same thing with DVDs. You lock your house because it provides a method of protection, a barrier to make it more difficult and to keep honest people honest. That's what RipGuard, or any copy protection software does.
So the question isn't why would you protect your DVD, but rather why wouldn't you? In most cases if you prevent just a few illegal copies of your DVD from being ripped, it has already more than paid for itself.

  • Very large DVD image/folder ( dvd9 in size)

I'm having problems making an bluray folder or image that is readable by anything!, (using encore).
So In encore i changed the project format to DVD and set the disc size to custom = 20G !
My mediaplayer (popcorn hour) did play it OK, incl first-play, menus and subtitles, but i wonder if anyone else have experience with generating DVD image or folder which are large than dvd9 ?
(obviously you can not burn it, but who does that nowadays anyway)
    /per

..to answer my own question: the 20G 'DVD' played very well...
now I wonder if the player wil accept H264 encoding instead of MPEG2
..if so, i guess the only difference to bluray would be the lack of popup menus ?

  • Dual Layer burning fails every time - Tecra A9

    Hi all.
My Tecra A9 is fitted with Teac DVW28ECT (Rev7.5A) I have no problems burning to single-layer DVD.... but EVERY time I try to burn to Dual-Layer the process stops approx 25% into the burn process.
I cannot find any newer driver/firmware updates for the dvd drive. I have tried all brands of disk...
The burn programs I use are up to date and are fine for dual layer/ DVD9 disk production.
Any advice from members that may help me would be INCREDIBLY appreciated !!

    Hi
I checked the user manual and there is info that the notebook support DVD-R DL (format 1) and DVD+R DL
But some types and formats of DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL disks may be unreadable.
Furthermore the DVD-R DL can be burned using the 2x speed and DVD+R DL 2.4x speed.
Please check also the user manual page 90.
There you can find details about tested DVD DL disk which are compatible with this notebook.
Note; the companies mentioned in the user manual are disk manufacturers an not suppliers!

  • Layer break on DVD9 error. HELP!

I´ve compiled a DVD9 project but I cant play it out as DDP files to my hard drive (no DLT). I get the error message- "no suitable marker found for layer break....". I set everything to automatic and have burned a DVD9 that works. Is it possible that my total data is too big at 7,982.312 Gig? Any help is desperately appreciated!
    Help! Deadline!
    Thanks
    Glenn

You might try manually setting the break point. That's usually a good practice anyway because you can be assured it will happen in a good place where the stutter won't be as obvious.

  • Create BluRay on DVD9 with Encore CS4?

    1. Can Encore CS4 create a DVD9 in BluRay format that will play on any BluRay player? I listened to a podcast that Toast could do this, so I'm hoping it the new CS4 Encore can.
    2. Any links to instructions for above?
    3. Which codec to go with? I also have Squeeze 5, which just got a great review against the Adobe and Apple compressors for H.264. If time is not an issue, which format will give me the best quality?
    Thanks!

    Miseree,
As Joe said, you can't directly burn a BluRay project to a regular DVD from Encore.  However, you can do it and if you read through this thread, you can see how it was worked out and apparently one can even burn about 60 minutes of BluRay materal to a dual layer DVD.
    http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/145/862674
Right now it's a little more complex to burn a BluRay DVD that will play on a Play Station 3, though.  You still need a BluRay player to play the disk.
Let me know how it works out.

  • Need a dual layer DVD burner... Advice?

Hi... I am afraid I'm out of space on my project, and am going to need to go DVD9.
Does anyone recommend a particular internal DVD burner that I can easily replace with the super drive in my PPC g5?
    thanks
    -patrick

Optical drive standoffs are screws that go into the bottom of the drive to adjust how high the drive sits in the optical drive space. The screws have to be the right length or the drive tray won't clear the G5's optical drive door.
Your drive is an LG/Hitachi model. Normally, the standoffs for Pioneer and Toshiba drives are a little bit different than the standoffs for Sony drives. Since your drive is neither, I'm not sure which standoff will work. If you were to purchase the Pioneer, you can try it with your existing standoffs and see if the drive tray clears the door properly. If not, you'll need to get new standoffs from Apple. You can see the DIY guide for replacing the optical drive here: http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/g5/073-0807.pdf

  • HT203164 help! i am using itunes 10.6.1.7 and windows vista 64. itunes will no longer burn cds. i have searched online and tried all i saw that could possibly fix it and it is still not working.

    i have tried:
    reloading itunes
    unchecking 'write'
    removing lower filters in regedit
ensuring i had the correct 'gear' info in the upper filters in regedit
    removing 'gear' from regedit, system32
    reloading updated version of 'gear'
    cleaning my registery
    deleting itunes
    cleaning registry again
    reloading itunes
    cleaning registry again
i still cannot burn cd. t i can import and play cds in itunes and i can watch dvds. itunes will just not burn to blank cds, and i have tried sever new blank cds, each is not recognized.
i do not know what else to do, i have searched the internet and whatever i saw doable i tried.
when i check the cd drive in itunes i had gotten a 4220 error, cnet advised to download a free error fixer, however, this error fixer gave me and enduser message, so that didn't work.
the diagnostic for the cd burner read that i had to put in a formatted disc with content so i did and there are the results of that were that it read the cd and that the 4220 errir code was encountered last time there was an attempt to burn.
and 'could not open cd handler 32. there is a problem with the installation of the drive in windows or the drive contains a copyprotected cd.
the above is not the case as it also popped up for me to import cd to itunes.
i tried to copy and past the entire contents here but it would not allow me to paste.
    please help!

I too have only recently encountered this problem. I have been able to burn disks before but it keeps making all these weird sounds. It might be a hardware problem but the fact that everything else that uses a disk works I doubt it.

  • I am trying to burn a CD from a playlist in iTunes. I set everything up, and then when it tries to burn, it cancels the burn right away, and gives me the error code: 4251. What am I doing wrong?

Okay, so I wanted to burn a CD to play on players in the house. The songs on my playlist are from CDs that I own and imported into my iTunes. Here are the steps I've taken:
    1. I created a playlist
    2. Selected File > Burn Playlist to Disc...
    3. My Burn Settings are as follows: Maximum Possible Speed (I have tried all the other speeds as well with the same result), Audio CD (No gaps between songs), Use Sound Check is selected, Include CD Text is selected (I have also tried unselecting these two options).
    4. Then I clicked Burn
    5. Within a couple of seconds "Cancelling Burn" shows up in the window at the top of the screen, and a box pops up that says: The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4251).
I have tried different CDs, I have changed all the settings in the Burn Settings box, and I get the same result over and over again. I researched the error 4251, and it refers to a problem with importing songs from a CD. This is totally irrelevant since I'm not trying to import, I'm trying to burn. This is a blank CD, and it is a CD-R. These CDs are off a tower I purchased less than a month ago, and have had absolutely no problem burning other things to these CDs. I really don't want to have to re-import these songs to Windows Media Player or another application just so I can burn what I want onto a CD, but this is almost the point I am at.
iTunes certainly isn't helping me much at this point, and I would appreciate any feedback into what I am possibly doing wrong in trying to create a CD.

I have Windows 7 on a Dell.  Open and play iTunes in the compatability mode and use Windows XP (service pack 2).  Disregard any messsages to disable the compability mode.  This has worked for me.  I have also reinstalled iTunes and played with burn speeds etc.  These ideas did not work.  Compatability mode works.

  • I have three videos to edit. How do I save each one so I can burn them together to a DVD?

I have three videos to edit. How do I save each one so I can burn them together to a DVD?

Use Share/Computer/AVI to output each video as a DV-AVI.
Then open a new project set up for DV and combine the three AVIs on that timeline. Voila!

  • Encore can't burn more than one DVD at a time: Sense Code 56400

For a long time now I've been unable to burn multiple DVD's at a time. I burn more than one and I get an error and have to make a coaster out of yet another DVD
I just upgraded to 24 gb of DDR3 PC 1600 RAM, I have an 6 Core Processor, I have 7.8 on everything accept my hard drive which is 7.0 out of 7.9 according to my Windows 7 Pro. 64 bit system.
I have 2 different DVD burners, one is a blu-ray burner too. I have the same issues, only different error readings it seems, on both drives. The first drive didn't burn even one for some reason so I tried the second. The second drive would burned 3 and on the fourth I got the errors' which I've included screen shots of below. I was surprised I got through three before I got to this error. By the end of the week I have a large project I need to make 30 DVD's of. HELP!!!!!
A long time ago on my older machine I had similar problems and I went through different drives and discs until I seemed to come up with the magic combination which seemed to be a Plextor burner and Verbatim. But, then i got a bad batch of verbatim and tried Maxell and used those successfully for a while. Right now I'm using what a friend gave me, TDK's. I'm wondering if that's what the problem is... HELP!!!!

I have managed to get it to work consistently now. I just burned 20 DVD's without a problem.
I tried everything you suggested except the imageburn software. I didn't like that site, I was too anxious to try and figure out where to download that software in the midst of all the advertisements on that site.
After clearing out everything in startup and services except what I needed I still wasn't able to burn successfully. Finally I went and purchased some Verbatim DVD-R discs and wahlah! Actually, after the first try with the verbatim I had an error code when trying to burn with Encore. So, I created and image file as you suggested and then I used Cyberlink's Power2Go to burn the image file and from there on it seems everything is solid.
I think the biggest problem was using TDK discs. I came to the realization a few years ago that certain disks are not as predictable as others and that verbatim and maxell seem to be the best. I did get one bad batch of verbatim though one time and that's when I switched to Maxell. My friend gave me 200 of the TDK's and I've been having problems ever since. But, I wasn't sure what it was exactly because he gave me those around the same time I rebuilt my system.
I had also found the Plextor seems to be the best bet for burners. But, I had been using an HP one lately and thought maybe that was the problem. However, now it seems to be fine.
I really don't know what fixed it. I mean, nothing definitely worked until I started using the Verbatim today. But, that first verbatim erroring perplexed me. I had done some other things too, like removed some programs, like a bunch of HP printer crap. I even removed my virus software, Window Security Essentials. I just reinstalled it so now I'm wondering if I can burn as consistently. I had seen somewhere where someone said they removed Windows' Defender to get theirs working.
Anyways, I guess what I need to do is format my main hard drive, only put adobe stuff on it, and then take my old computer set it up for everything else. That'll probably be the best thing to do... If I have anymore problems like this I'm doing that right away!

  • I got an error message while burning a cd in itunes - "The attempt to burn a disc failed.  The burn failed because of a medium write error.  What is that and how can i fix it?t

I got an error message while burning a CD in iTunes - "the attempt to burn a disc failed.  The burn failed because of a medium write error."  What does this mean and how do I fix it?

The disk you are using probably has a defect, not uncommon on consumer grade disks. Try another disk or better yet another disk from a different manufacturer or at least a different batch.

  • Multiplex Error - While Burning Disc Image

I've been trying to burn an hour and a half dvd using idvd '08 on professional quality, coming from and AIC HDV project in final cut express 3.5. It takes around 5 hours to encode and then for the third time it's given me a multiplexer error at the end. Is there anyway to solve this?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Do you have 20GB+ free on your start-up drive? Do you have any external HDs attached?
Your MacBook Pro hasn't frozen up while encoding?
    There is 10.5.2 available today.
