'burning finished' message

Burning an iMovie project (iDVD 6) and when I click to burn, I get an immediate error that says Burning finished, Errors were found during the burning process. Any idea? First time burning in iDVD on my new machine.

Hi CL:
Welcome to discussions.
Perhaps you should try using the Save as / Disk image and burn from that.
(Copied from Len Goff)
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

Hi I had this problem as well. It caused a lot of frustrations especially as I was showing off the ease of my mac to a pc freak!!!
The solution I found (on an earlier discussion was to change the preferences from best quality to best performance ... it worked really well.

  • Burning Finished Error

ok launched idvd and imported my imovie. and click burn and get this message
"burning finished - errors were found during the burning process"
any idea? jammed to get the movie together for an event and now i'm stuck.

    Aloha and Welcome to discussions.
Boy, could be lots of things actually...
I would start by deleting the encoded asset ( Look under "Advanced" in the menu bar).
Plus, be sure to follow the chapter rules:
*Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the start or end of the timeline.
*Make sure no chapter markers are within a transition.
*Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the end of a transition.
Check your JPEG filenames and folder names. Don't use any special characters. Be sure to use only letters, numbers, and underscores, and only one "." Do not use "/" or "." at the beginning of a file name.
Another thought is about the music you used. Is it from the iTunes Store? You may need to burn a CD of the music and import from that.
If you used photos, your iPhoto Library may be corrupt. You could try rebuilding the library or try dragging the photos to the desktop and then into iDVD.
BTW-next time try saving the iDVD project as a "disk image" and use the disk utility or a program like Toast to burn the DVD.
Aren't using an external burner are you?

  • "Burning finished.  Errors detected during burning".

I have been trying to burn in iDVD 5 without luck. I keep getting the message in the subject line "Burning finished ..." after it has encoded all the media.
the project seems to encode/compress the data, but then not physically burn the media.
It was working fine until iDVD crashed on me one time -- since then, I have not been able to successfully burn.
Any ideas? Many thanks in advance. I am using all the latest software.

sometimes idvd errors occur because of a corrupted file. I had everything go smooth...video encoded good but then it froze up after trying to encode the audio...I went back into my project and deleted the "added" music [ wedding video] and tried music that I knew worked before....voila! It was corrupted music file[s]...I found that sometimes my clients will give me a CD with their music on it it and it will not work in idvd even though it worked fine in imovie!

  • Burn error message 261

I too am getting burn error message when I try to burn my playlists to CD since I downloaded iTunes 5.0. I am burning a MP3 CD and there are only 640 MB to be burned to a 700MB CD. I have gone through all of the iTunes suggested solutions. I have contacted Dell (my OEM) and the manufacturer of my CD-R/RW drive (Samsung). I upgraded the latest firmware for my computer and CD Drive. I still get the same message...burn failed for unknown reason...error message 261. It works in Windows Media. What gives? Is there a fix? Seemingly, quite a few other customers are having the same problem. HELP!Apple is there a fix on the way?

    Hello Armando,
I'm not too sure if I could help you since you're running a Windows machine but if you want some reliable answers, could you re-post your question in the iTunes for Windows forum? I'm sure the people on that forum would help you better. Sorry about that.
Just FYI, you posted this thread on the iTunes for Mac forum.

Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality final product:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • ITunes won't recognize my CD burner, error message -43 on CD diagnostics

I hope there is someone who can help me. I am at my wits end with this! I cannot burn any cd's using iTunes--it does not recognize that I have burning capablities. I have tried repairing and reinstalling iTunes, because the very first error message I get when opening iTunes reads like this "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes". I have done this about 20 times already. Then when I try to run CD diagnostic, this is what I get:

I am really unhappy with this problem, considering that I can use Windows Media Player with no problem whatsoever. Now I have purchased all kinds of music off of iTunes and can't even burn a CD--what a waste of money. I hope someone has a suggestion for me. When I tried to email to the iTunes support they told me they didn't handle this type of problem, and I'd have to call their technical help line and pay whatever fee they charge for calls. Please help! Or else I guess my husband wasted $400 on a video iPod that's worthless.

  • I own an eMac. I really enjoy burning my iTunes playlists to a cd. But, now an error message pops up just after iTunes prepares the disc for burning. The message states this: The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (-3). Any advice?

Hey everyone! So, here is my problem. I own an eMac. I enjoy burning my iTunes playlists to a CD. Well, all of a sudden, right after iTunes prepares the disc for burning an error message pops up and says this: The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (-3). Any suggestions on how to correct this problen so I can continue burning my playlists???

Is this purchased music, or your own music files?

  • DVD burn error message

I get this error message when I try to burn a data DVD: "Burning the disk failed because communication to the disk drive failed. (error code 0 x 80020022)
I am attempting to use the original drive system (Pioneer DVD-RW DVR 104) and it plays CD's and DVD's without a problem. Thoughts? Jim

just had this problem with a 17" MacPro purchased in Jan 09. Toast Titanium 9 had no problems burning the CD. tried it again in Finder but backed the burn speed down from 24x to 8x - no problem.
I can only assume it is cheap media causing the problem - we have no problems with Maxell CDs at full burn speed (24x). The CDs causing the problems are Verbatims (rated at 1-52x) that have printable surfaces.
    hope this helps

  • G5 DVD burner error message? Help please?

The error "internal target failure" appears on PCs using this drive as well, so it appears that it's not a Toast specific error.
However, in my browsing, no one seemed to be able to tell if it was a true hardware failure of the drive, or if it was caused by poor quality media.
I'd try other brands of media and a lens cleaner before flashing the firmware. And, if you do decide to flash the firmware, the current, official firmware for that drive is here. The link in MLCinma's post contains hacked (region free) firmware and is outdated in any event.
Let us know what brand of media you're using and what speed you're burning at.
The DVR-106D has had lots of reports of failures, so it could very well be the drive. At least a replacement DVR-111D will only cost you about $40 - $50.

  • Burn error message

    Hey all.
I'm trying to burn a CD on my computer and after several attempts I am presented with a message which says "Error 4450". I'm annoyed 'cause I've got through 4 CDs in my efforts. I've also followed the instructions on the website "Download new version of iTunes" and still it's happening. Any ideas of what is going on?
      Windows XP

The disk i'm trying to burn onto is a 16X speed.
16X media would be MY guess. Try to find 4x or 8x max medium. The slower the better in terms of burning success.

  • CD Burn error messages

I am getting two messages when I try to burn a cd using the burn software that came with the computer. I used this a couple of times quite awhile back but now it is not working. The messages are "burn engine error" and "target disk error". I tried to run the utility to test the hardware from the original install disks but when I try to restart holding down the c key the computer starts up just as it usually does. I don't know if this utility would tell me whether or not my burner is working. Any ideas how to test my burner before I have to drag this heavy thing to the mac repair store? I have tried several brands of cds and several types of files. I also tried two different ways to burn. It creates the image and tries to burn but when it comes to the verify part that is when I get the message. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!
emac 800mhz combo drive   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

The cleaner / solvent I referred to is what comes with kits sold for cleaning fingerprints and smudges from the CD discs that go into the drive rather as opposed to kits that contain just a lens cleaner disc for cleaning the drive itself. Places like Wal-Mart have combined CD disc cleaner and lens cleaner in one package and you can use the spray cleaner for the CD discs on the lens cleaner disc.
In some cases it has been reported that running Disk Utility> Repair Permissions on the hard drive has helpd, as have resetting PRAM by restarting and immediately holding down the command-option-p-r keys until you hear three seys of chimes, then release the keys. You may need to redo some settings after resetting PRAM (see What's stored in PRAM?). Try these steps (along with another pass or three of the lens cleaner) before you even consider reinstalling the OS.
An Archive and Install Feature lets you reinstall the OS without affecting your existing user data and settings (you should have at least 6 GB free space on the hard drive, preferrablly more). That would be something to try if all else fails. If your Mac is still under warrenty than you can contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) and have them check that it's not a hardware issue.
If you (or a friend) have another Firewire-equipped Mac available, you can boot the eMac in FireWire target disk mode to backup your files. An external Firewire hard drive along with a copy of SuperDuper! would be a worthwhile investment when you can.
p.s. You can add useful information such as your Mac model, OS version, CPU speed, amount of RAM, notable peripherals, etc. using the My Settings link in the box on the right of the Discussions pages. --->

when I try to save as disc image I get a message that says errors durring project validation and wont let me burn my project used to work fine.can anyone help

    Hi
    My thoughts.
    • Free Space on Your Start-Up (Mac OS) Hard Disk - How much ?
    • Brand of DVD used ?
    • Type of DVD used ?
    • Video-Codec, photo file format and Audio file formats used ?
There is so much that can go wrong - so we need a lose end to start to unwind the problem.

  • Disc ejects before burn finished

I am burning 30 copies of a graduation through iDVD. The movie is over two hours going on a dual layer dvd. Around one-third of the time the dvd will eject anywhere from 1 - 30 minutes before the burn in complete. I have tried stopping and waiting a few hours to let my computer cool off but this does not seem to help. I have 65 gig left on my hard-drive so I don't think that's an issue.

OK I made the disc image and created a burn folder and burnt a memorex dvd on 4x speed this morning. The dvd finished burning successfully...but it wouldn't play on my tv. I tried a second time to and got a 0x80020022 error. I just tried a third time burning at 2x speed, it finished but it won't play. My computer seems to be enjoying eating these expensive dual layer dvds like candy!!
The disc image will play on my iMac in DVD player and the two dvds that finished will play on my iMac in DVD player also.
One thing I thought of was my dvd player, it has played memorex dvds I've made just fine before though. I am going to go try playing the dvd on a neighbor's dvd player now.
