Burning in Disc-At-One (gapless) mode?

Hi all - the last time I asked this (about two years ago) I was told that iTunes does not support burning audio CD's in such a way that there are no gaps between tracks - usually achievable through disc-at-once mode. But that was two years ago. Do the latest versions now support this? If not, is it on Apple's to-do list?

You can set iTunes not to include a gap, yes. But (again, unless things have changed in recent versions), iTunes still is burning in what is called "track-at-once" where the laser turns off between tracks, which can cause a small "hiccup" (click, silence break, etc.) between the tracks. Only software that can burn true "disk-at-once" where the laser doesn't turn off during the entire CD burn do you not have this, and this (again, unless it's changed recently) is something iTunes doesn't do.
I'd be happy to be proven wrong, though.
Regards.

  • Why isn't itunes letting any one burn a disc

I have itunes 11.0.4 with a Windows 8 program . It will not allow to burn a disc or back up discs as the older versions did. This is very upsetting because my friends were depending on me to help save their vinyl recordings to disc. I can print a jewel case track list and cover art , but burn a disc NO. I keep getting UNKNOWN ERROR 4310. In my estimation this is a terrible loss for people trying to help other people keep music not available on cd. Who ever thought of this needs their head examined. I can't possibly be the only one trying to do save the vinyl to cd. Please itune give back that capability . Also the Ez Vinyl program does not work in itunes as has done on older versions , how about all you companies getting together and straighten this mess out.  Signed A Sad Old Guy

What if you have an IPhone? There are no alternatives.
iTunes 7 is the slowest application on my computer. Autocad and Photoshop start twice as fast on my computer as iTunes does. I think that Apple should rewrite the whole application. It's not an easy task but if Apple wants to keep making money of iTunes it's needed to be done.
Not everyone has processing power of my or better machine, imagine running iTunes on a single core CPU with some older hardware and having 10000 songs, podcasts, audiobooks and movies in the library. NIGHTMARE!!!

  • HT2433 I purchased an external CD drive because the internal one died.  When I try using the new drive I get the following msg "The attempt to burn a disc failed.  The device is not accessable, probably because it was removed"

I purchased an external CD drive for my MacBook, the internaldrive had died.  When I tried using the new drive I got the following msg "The attempt to burn a disc failed.  The device is not accessable, probably because it was removed"  I contacted OWC and tried to work the issue with them, we gave up and OWC sent me a replacement.  I connected the replacement and am getting the same message.  Any thoughts?

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM first, if that doesn't help try a cleaning disc.....and then buy an inexpensive external burner. Slimline super drive failures are all too common.
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

iDVD is not a format that can be viewed online.  Personally I would try creating a slideshow in iPhoto with the same photos and audio as used in iDVD. Then export as a movie file with the Export button at the bottom of the slideshow window:
Since I don't use Face Book I don't know what size to recommend.  Another option would be to get a YouTube account (free) and upload the Quicktime movie file to it.  You can make videos there private or public.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Windows 7 does not recognize cd/dvd drive. Will not burn a disc

In November 2013, I  bought a refurbished hp Compaq 7900 convertible minitower, Product No. NJ3226UC#ABA, 32-bit.  Windows 7 and WMP 12 were installed by the company that refurbished it.   WMP's  play, rip, burn, sync worked perfectly.
I made the mistake of installing itunes.  I purchased music and made a playlist from my library and itunes.  I tried to burn the playlist with Memorex discs.  WMP burn would kick out the cd at 99% complete.  I tried a different brand of disc and had the same  problem.  The message each time was 'Windows Media Player Encountered an error while burning. Verify that the burner is connected properly and that the disc is clean and not damaged.'  I tried burning a disc using itunes burner but it didn't do anything.
First, I removed every Apple application from my computer.  Then I ran Microsoft CD/DVD trouble shooter.  It didn't correct the problem and gave me the message "cannot locate CD/DVD burner".  I ran trouble shooter in the Control  Panel selected System Security's, Find and Fix. Then Selected  Configure a Device .  Results were 'Hardware may not be detected try to do what you wanted to do again' I tried 2-3 times.  WMP would not burn.  Tried Apple for help and didn't want to reinstall itunes.  I reinstalled Quick Time.   Followed Microsoft's 5-step resolutions:
              1.  Used the troubleshooter in Control Panel.
              2.  Ran CD/DVD Fixit trouble shooter.
              3.  Manually fix corrupted registry.
              4.  Update or reinstall driver.
              5.  Create a sub registry key.
I tried to burn after every step and got the same result.it burned to 99% and kicked out. I used system restore back to May 15, 2014  thaat was before installing iTunes.  No burn.   Checked  driver and response was that 'Driver is working.  No problem was found'.    Today, ran Troubleshooter in ControI Panel and this was the messsage, 'Configuration Settings May Be Incorrect'.  How do I correct  this?  Help!  What next?

    Hi,
You were given some very good advice on your other post.  I ran into a very similar issue when I had installed iTunes and the end result was that I had to do a factory recovery back to a day one condition. Then I had to do a slow software installation process, checking every time I had installed a third party application.  I got tripped up a couple of times but determined that I had to install iTunes before installing other CD/DVD media programs (Roxio,WMP and Cyberlink).
Do a fresh OS installation without the extra third party software and then install Imgburn.  Then use Imgburn to determine the capabilities of your optical drive and match the media specifications those detected by Imgburn to the media type that you are using. Do not use cheap media as the firmware in your optical drive may not support it. I prefer to use Verbatim media. Now see if Imgburn will burn your optical media before attempting to install iTunes and other CD/DVD optical media programs.

  • Burning the disc failed because ...

I recently upgraded to Tiger, and I have installed all the software updates. Now I can't burn a CD-R. When I try, the system ejects the blank CD and displays the message:
Burning the disc failed because one or more items in "Untitled CD" could not be read.
    "/private/etc/master.password" cannot be read.
I have spent hours trying to find what's wrong. My efforts have been in vain. Hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction.
    Thanks,
    Bill

Are you sure it said master.password and not master.passwd? If it's master.passwd, then I assume that the file's hosed, see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106908 for some information.
If that doesn't help, run this command in the Terminal.app:
    sudo cat /private/etc/master.passwd
enter your admin passord at the Password: prompt. The results should look like this. If it doesn't, then you might try replacing it's contents with this:
    # User Database
    # Note that this file is consulted when the system is running in single-user
    # mode. At other times this information is handled by lookupd. By default,
    # lookupd gets information from NetInfo, so this file will not be consulted
    # unless you have changed lookupd's configuration.

  • Pioneer DVR-104 won't recognize/burn/eject disc. I am STUCK. Help?

    Hello.
I bought an iMac G4 800mhz flat panel model with DVR-104 superdrive recently.
It's was working perfectly until I tired to burn my 1st disc using Toast 7 (DVD-R). That's when things started messing up. I stuck the disc in and after "thinking" about it for a minute ejected it without any message -- it just spit it out.
I repaired file permissions, restarted, tried another disc and now I can't get the disc out. When i push the eject button i get the eject icon on the screen but the disc doesn't come out.
-Under Disc Burning in System Profiler it now says "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly".
-Toast 7 says "no recorder found".
-When I restart the computer I get the message "Disk Insertion - the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". Until I tried to burn a disc the drive had been working perfectly and a lot.
So to recap: There's a disc stuck in the Superdrive that my iMac doesn't think is there. Can I force eject?
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!!
Oh BTW here's what is says under System Profiler about the Pioneer DVR-104:

mrtotes thanks a lot for the suggestions! I didn't have to try the Target mode but I'll remember that one thanks.
With blank 8X DVD-R still stuck in iMac I ran Onyx (with everything in the Automation area checked√) and went to bed.
This morning I forgot it was in sleep mode & not turned off so I hit the power button to turn it on. It woke up, but the screen was frozen. I turned it off using the power button.
When I turned it back on the DVD in the drive started making that "clunk clunk" noise again trying to load (it had not been making any noises at all while stuck) while the computer was booting up. I held down the eject key & the mouse until it finished booting up. THE DISC CAME OUT. Whew!
I don't know if it was Onyx or me pushing the power button when it was asleep or that mouse/eject maneuver but it worked.
I guess I'll need to stick to 4X DVD-R for now if I can find any. Does anyone know where to get those now? I'm in Sacramento, CA.
Also, I have some Memorex 52X blank CDs. Do I dare try one of those or what speed should I use?
    Thanks!!

  • I tunes: when trying to burn a playlist I keep getting the message: the attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc could not be read from or written to. I am using version 12

I tunes: I am using version 12 of I tunes. Ever since downloading it I get the message when trying to burn a playlist it says, The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc could not be read from or written to.
I uninstalled V-12 and then reinstalled it. This enabled me to burn a disc again but after a couple of tries I received the same error message again. Has Apple put out a fix to this problem that anyone is aware of?
    Thanks.

    Hi rossfrombluffton,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below provides some general things to consider when burning a disc with iTunes.  I would also try burning a music CD and a data disc from a different application in the Windows OS and trying a different brand CD just to confirm the issue is not with the optical drive.
Can't burn a CD in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-ae/HT203173
Find out what to do if you can't burn an audio CD using iTunes for Windows. Sometimes an audio disc may not burn as expected. Here are some things to check.
    Update iTunes
Download and install the latest version of iTunes for Windows.Check for unauthorized songs
iTunes will stop burning a disc if you purchased one or more of the songs in a playlist from the iTunes Store and the songs aren't authorized to play on your computer. This message should appear: "Some of the files can not be burned to an audio CD. Do you still want to burn the remainder of this playlist? For more information on why some files can not be burned, click below."
To find out which songs aren't authorized, play each song in the playlist. Songs that play are authorized. Songs that don't play aren't authorized. You'll be asked to authorize any unauthorized songs.Make sure your playlist will fit on a single CD
If there are too many songs in a playlist to fit on a single CD, iTunes should ask if you want to burn multiple discs or cancel the burn. This message should appear: "The songs in this playlist will not fit on one Audio CD. Do you want to create multiple Audio CDs with this playlist split across them? This will require more than one blank CD to complete."
If you click the Audio CDs button, the burn will continue and you'll be asked to insert blank CDs until the playlist is completely burned. If you click cancel, the burn will be canceled.
To make the playlist shorter so that it will fit on a single CD, select a song to remove from the playlist and choose Edit > Clear. Repeat this step until the duration of the playlist is between 60 and 80 minutes. The duration appears at the top of the playlist window. Most CD-R discs can hold 60 to 80 minutes of music.
Check how many times you've burned the playlist
An unchanged playlist that contains songs purchased from the iTunes Store can be burned no more than seven times.Additional steps and submitting feedback

  • The attempt to burn a disc failed...error 4310

Everytime I try and burn songs on a cd from one of my playlists, the cd burner will complete 7 or 8 songs and then give me the following error message:
The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occured (4310)
I updated iTunes to it's newest version and I'm still having the same problem. It will never burn more then 8 songs and occasionally it will give me this message before it even finishes one song. This is VERY frusterating and I've ruined countless blank cd's trying to get this to work!
I also tried looking at other topics on this board from people with the same problem but my question was not answered.

  • The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4310).

I have been able to burn CDs from music I bought off iTunes. I haven't had any problems until now.
I just purchased Mike Doughty's Haughty Melodic, the whole album. Everytime it gets almost done burning, it gives this error:
"The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4310)."
I have wasted 3 blank CDs trying to burn this. I have a lot of experience with computers, I know there is nothing wrong with my hardware.
Is this is a problem with one of the files? Is there some kind of sub-routine that iTunes runs when trying to burn a CD? I have no idea why this is happening.
    Anyone have some advice?

    try this...
This is how I managed to fix the problem...and I hope this helps others in the similar situation.
I tried with another program..latest version of Nero, and this was also stopping at the 'initialising' stage. I was now lost! I thought the last resort is to give Evesham (My PC manufacturer) a buzz. They were very helpfull. Basically go into 'Control Panel', 'System', and click on the Hardware tab, then 'Device Manager'. Uninstall everything in the DVD/CDRom Drives. Then uninstall everything under the catagory IDE ATA/Atapi disk controllers. This is where my problem was, as I only had one IDE channel here. You should have 4 or 5! Reboot your machine, and everything will automatically re-load. I tried burning using Nero and it worked. Then the big test was iTunes. It worked 1st time!
I asked why the IDE channels have dissappearred, and he said sometimes uninstalling Programmes occasionally removes them.
I hope this will help others who are having problems to burn stuff on iTunes.

What can I do to resolve? Tried doing the iTunes update and that does not appear to have helped. I am beyond frustrated. To not be able to burn all my purchased music to cd's is not making me a happy camper.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix?
    Thanks for all suggestions..

Hey guys, having same type of problem and figured I would throw in my 2 cents. I was getting "error 4000"; i Googled that and followed the procedures for going to my control panel, add/remove and clicking repair. I tried a burn again, also paying attention to previous notes and lowered my write speed to 8X. Same error, different number, this time 4261. I found this thread so I decided to paste my info too, but i do notice the last line of code reads "speed 10X". Hope this helps? I have burned plenty of CDs before, I am burning a mix of MP3 and MP4, amazon and apple purchased, and using older memorex CD-R. They say "recordable, 52X, 700mb, 80 min" at the top. Hope it helps and thanks for the time and effort on here!

  • The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disk is locked and cannot be written

I am having a problem burning CDs. iTunes begins to burn CD than cancels with the following message "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disk is locked and cannot be written." After some research I found the following article "Burning disc in iTunes for Windows using a Sony CD-RW/DVD CRX830E model drive fails with 4280 error." I followed directions as noted, this worked for the burning of one CD, then failed message returned. I have tried different CDs and lowering record speed to no avail. Burner worked up until updating to latest iTunes. Here is the diagnostic report

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.
