Burning individual music AIFFs using a CUE file

Hi,
I want to burn a CD using individual AIFF music files (one AIFF for each track on the album) and an accompanying CUE file, which includes all the information about gaps between tracks etc.
I cannot find anything that can do this for me: I've tried Toast but that only seems to work with BIN/CUE pairs, and iTunes doesn't recognise the CUE file.
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks,
Sean

Aren't CUE files more of a PC-thing?
The "Mac way" to make an exact copy of a CD would be to use a disk image. If you've acquired a bunch of AIFFs and a CUE to go with them, I'd suggest you follow PT's advice and set the gaps manually in Toast. Evidently, the files you have obtained have not been ripped with Mac-burning in mind.
If you're copying a CD you own, make a disk image of it.

  • Individual music tracks save in separate files

I recently downloaded a music CD into my iTunes library and  each track saved as a separate album. The reason seemed to be the tags for the artist on each track was slightly different - even though iTunes should be able to accomodate this. Removal of the tags so that every track had the same artist and same album name saved all but one track in the same album. This last song will not save with the rest even though the only difference is track name - everything else is identical - WHY NOT!

  • Cue files for mixed cd mp3s

I have alot of mixed cds ripped as one long mp3 so there are no pauses between tracks. Normally I use a cue file to differentiate the individual track when I play the album in winamp.
Does anyone know of a way to use cue files on the iPod so you don't have to view the album as one long mp3?
    Cheers

As noted iTunes will burn the disc format selected in your iTunes burning prefs. If you select AIFF then it will burn the mp3 or any other file as an AIFF which is playable on any regular CD player.

I'm running logic pro 8.0.2 on Leopard 10.5.8. I've recorded an evening of live music, then cut the recording into songs using one audio file folder ad multiple song files. When working on an individual song, I can't access the sampler.  I get the message "nothing to display" or "no region or audio file selected"  After much research on the web, I believe this is a permanent bug.  Does anyone have a good work-around for this type of work.  We record live 16T band rehearsals constantly and would love to be able to break individual songs out of the large file and be able to use the sampler.  Thanks in advance for your ideas!  Cheers.

Another thing - if I copy one of the tracks to another track, then the sample editor works on the copied track.  I don't want to have to copy 16 tracks to new tracks to be able to use the sample editor on a project.  Thanks again.

  • How can I burn Audio-CD's and .cue files on my iMac.

Since a few months I stepped over from Windows to iMac, I am satisfied I did that, but now I am at a point that I regret it !!
I tried for the first time to burn an Audio-CD on my mac, first with the help of the programs BURN and SimplyBurn, but I did not succeed to get a Audio CD that also worked on my Stereo set. Also trying to burn a .cue file was a dissaster.
I also tried Finder and iTunes, well the with Finder burned CD did not play on my Stereo, iTunes did not burn my music, maybe because it was not downloaded from iTunes, because the burn entry was not in the menu bar.
I also went to an help desk, but the gave me some unclear answers.
So you can imagine I'm very disapointed, not succeding to burn a simple CD or .cue file, right now I'm happy I did not get rid of my Windows machine.
Please a solution for this "problem" and what kind of burn programs can you advise I should use, and that I stay in the Apple communtiy and not go back to Windows ??

Thanks for your answer. But I tried to burn an image with the program BURN yesterday, without succes. The file I tried to burn was a 350MB big file to a CD, BURN told me the file was 1.5TB big !!!! and did not burn it.
I burned it on my Windows machine with NERO and that worked !
Also today Itried to burn a normal Mp3 album to disk with BURN, without result, I got an answer from BURN telling me "One of the volumes on this medium is still in use" not nowing what this means !!

  • Using CUE files with FLAC files

I have an audio CD file which is encoded into one large FLAC file and one small CUE file. When I drop the FLAC file into Toast, I get one 60 minute audio track - not broken up into the individual songs.
I googled the issue and didn't come up with any easy solutions (only one which included some difficult software and needing to alter lines of code).
Somehow there has to be a way to get Toast (or whatever software) to see the individual song tracks and not just the one FLAC file.
    Can anyone help out?

That claim is 100% true! Just tested it myself, using XLD. I can only say that it works absolute perfect AND very fast! I tried Switch and Max before. Switch is just very slow and it did not cope with .cue files. And I experienced problems using Max, so I whacked that away.
So it also works with .cue files, which is great. When decoding this allows you to nicely split a FLAC file of say one CD back into tracks. I believe the default was on .wav when decoding, so if you like to convert to .mp3 files for iTunes you have to go into the XLD Preferences to set it up. I selected the maximum quality VBR conversion.
The user interface is a bit basic, the well known Mac-style Drag-and-drop is missing. But who cares, just go to File and Open the FLAC file or the corresponding .cue file first. By default the decoded files are put in de current folder and the result is very satisfying, even the artwork will be there (probably through the .cue file?). If you prefer XLD can also put the music right into iTunes for you.
Needless to say, I am very happy that I came across XLD (finally)... Good luck!

  • How can I be sure that the back up to my time capsule has backed everything up as when I enter time capsule and interogate the back ups i can't identify individual music or picture files?

How can I confirm that the back up to my time capsule has backed everything up as when I enter time capsule and interrogate the backs ups I can't identify individual photo or music files?

You cannot browse a Time Machine backup with the Finder. To restore individual music files or any other files normally available in the Finder, open your Music folder then "Enter Time Machine" using the Time Machine icon.
Restoring individual photographs is slightly more cumbersome. Apple recommends restoring the entire iPhoto Library, but if you want to locate an individual photograph you could use Time Machine to restore the old Libary. Restore it to an alternate location to avoid overwriting your existing one. Open iPhoto while holding an Option key, open the restored Library, find the photo you need and export it, close iPhoto, re-open it with your usual Library, and import the photo.
Time Machine depends upon a number of sound engineering principles for reliable operation, one of which is "faith"
Your files will remain intact until your Time Machine backup device becomes inoperative.

One other thread said it was fixed by waiting till prompted by iTunes to insert the blank disk, instead of putting it in first. Does that work? Found a number of hits on this Googling.

As I said - look whether your original file is damaged or not. If not, I wouldn't change it and find out what in your system makes it sound like it's clipping.
Good sound file, with volume maxed out. No need to change anything.
The same song clipped - no chance to repair.

  • How Do I Burn a Music Disc with Files Names Included?

    Hi,
Is it possible to burn a music disc and somehow include the file names so when it is opened in another iTunes (or mine) it will have the track listing there?
    Thanks!
    James [email protected]

As iTunes does not support CD Text you can't include track information on a AudioCD.
As a workaround you may "Submit Track Names" to CDDA through iTunes Menu Advanced after having burned a CD.

How do I move music folders with individual music files from windows 7 to the itunes library so the files are usable in itunes?

All of the following programs should work with Vista.
Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.

I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac

So it sounds like you are trying to burn a DVD with photos on it so the photos can be either transferred to or displayed on a Windows PC, is that correct?
For the purposes of this I am going to assume you are using iPhoto '11.
Gather the photos you want to burn to DVD in one album in iPhoto. This is not absolutely necessary but it sure makes things easier for me.
Select that album, then go to the File menu and select Export...
In the dialog that shows up, select the File Export tab. Select the setting you want to use for export. Click the Export button.
Another dialog will show up. Set the location to Desktop and click the New Folder button. Name the folder something nice and descriptive and click the Create button.
Click the OK button. Quit iPhoto as the rest of this work will be done in the Finder.
You will now have a folder on your desktop with that nice descriptive name. Find it and select it. Go to the File menu and from it select Burn "Descriptive folder name" to Disc...
Insert a blank DVD when prompted.
Let the finder complete the work and eject the disc afterwards.
    That's it. Best of luck.

  • External CD/DVD burner sends OSX into 100% CPU use, cddafs.util file

    Hi,
I have a LaCie external CD/DVD burner (301484U) which I use a replacement for the SuperDrive that died in my Powerbook 15" DL, connecting by Firewire. Lately, instead of mounting CDs, it causes the cddafs.util file to take up whatever is left of my CPU sending it into 100% use. Ejecting using F12 and using the button on the drive to eject no longer work. I have to turn the drive off and turn it back on again to eject the disc.
I will ask LaCie too but wanted to see what anyone might say here as well. The drive is relatively new, bought in September. Sometimes CDs mount, sometimes they don't.
I'd be happy to supply more info but am not sure what is needed at this point.
One weird thing happened that might be related. Yesterday I was recording a record to be made into a CD using Final Vinyl and in the middle of the recording it gave me a blue screen with two sets of vertical black lines, freezing the machine. I rebooted and all was fine. I ran Disk Utility and other than a few permissions needing to be fixed, all was well. Nothing interesting in the trash upon restart.
    Thanks for any help.
    Cheers,

It works in the other account so it should be a file in my normal account right? (I misinterpreted what you meant by "doing it".) If it didn't work in the other account then it would be a hardware problem, possibly the power supply, right?
I'll move the CD Info.cidb file to the Desktop as you suggest. I hope that file isn't too corrupt. Over the years I've lost what CDs I've played from problems with that file. (I have actually kept track of most every CD since my first Mac, with the exception of what I've lost from crashes. I use a program or two to read it. A good one is iCDC for example.)

How do you burn videos taken with my Iphone 4S and stored on my computer to a DVD disc.  I purchased and tried using RealPlayer Plus 16 but got error message saying "unsopported media type"?  I also tried using Real Players file converter with no success!  Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Probably the OP is no longer paying attention to this unless the OP is subscribed to this discussion.  While not really an iPhone question I guess using an iPhone to produce the movie which then needs taking to the next step makes this as good a starting place as any unless you happen to know enough about what to do to determine in which forum to post.  A suggestion in that direction would help.
Anyway, Apple is backing off from supporting optical media.  It also depends upon what you mean by "DVD".  A DVD is just an optical disc which can support different file formats, but many people think it means a movie disc you can put in your TV.  Producing a movie disc requires special iDVD authoring software Apple used to sell but stopped several years ago.  I don't know if the old versions work under newer systems.  There's also the free Burn application which authors DVDs but takes a bit of learning and has nowhere near the features of iDVD.
If the OP means simply burning the transferred movie files to a DVD for archiving in computer format you don't need special software for that; its built into the operating system File > New Burn folder etc.
