Burning issues

Hey! Sorry if this question has already been addressed but I am new to this forum.
I am using a powerbook G4. I have iMovie HD 5.0.2 and iDVD 5.0.1
I have created an iMovie that is just a little over an hour long. It is just photos set at 3 sec time and only titles, no transitions or anything special. Music was added for the whole project. I brought it into iDVD and just did basic chapters, etc.
As I was working on the project I did an update of my iMovie and iDVD.
I am using a DVD-R, 120 minutes at 4.7 GB. When I try to burn it works through the whole process of rendering, multiplexing and burning and says that burning is complete. The problem is that nothing has burned and it states that there was an error in the burning process.
I know it is not my burner because I can copy other DVD's in disk utlilities and they will burn.
Have tried to recreate the project and started all over. No luck! Any help would be wonderful!

Q: I know how to get to disk utilities but what do I do a repair permissions on?
A: You repair the startup volume / Main Hard Drive like this:
application>utilities>apple's DU
then select the HD (startup volume) and hit "repair permissions"
this may take a few minutues depending on the HD and the amount of data DU must process.
Q: Once I am done with that, where do I find the iDVD plist that I should trash?
A: Type this into the finder or spotlight (or copy and paste this to the finder) then and drag and drop to the trash:
com.apple.iDVD.plist
iDVD will create a working default set once the above item is in the trash and emptied.
Good luck and hope this helps. If so, please take the time to mark your question as "Answered."

  • Yet another CD burning issue--won't finish "finishing"

The subject pretty much says it all. When I try burning a CD, the computer seems to go through the process just fine until the status becomes "Burning disc.....finishing," at which time, it stops. iTunes still works and is responsive, but the CD won't finish.
I've also tried burning discs with Windows Media Player, but it doesn't seem to work either.
Immediate responses would be greatly appreciated--I need to burn a disc as a gift ASAP!
    Thanks in advance.
(Please note that at the time I ran the diagnostics, it still said it was "Burning disc.....finishing." Not sure if that's relevant or not, but figured it was worth noting anyway.)

    hmmmmm.
i think i found your drivers and downloads page at Emachines:
    Emachines T-series T1150
but there's not a lot of items of interest available there.
on the other hand, according to Samsung's support site, there's a newer version of the firmware available for your SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-224B. you've got R201, and they have R205 available for download:
    Samsung SW-224B
so it might be prudent to contact your Emachines technical support, tell them you're troubleshooting a burning issue, and asking them if the newer R205 firmware is compatible with the particular Emachines system that you have.

  • Can't burn issues error code 4250-4280

After several failed attempts at solving my burning issues with Apple support (who had no idea what to do) I have found something out. The new "Protected AAC" formatted songs will cause a "failed burn" error message. I own 2 different computers and have tried 2 different types of CD-Rs. I have found that Windows Media Player will burn just fine, and that in iTunes I can burn all my old music (under "kind" look for "AAC audio file") just fine also. So I seem to have norrowed it down to Apple's new protected formats called "Protected AAC audio file"
So far this is all I've got. Anyone else have any ideas?

  • For All Serious Burning Issues!!

If you are having serious burning issues and error messages, and after you have freed up atleast 5 gb of HD space on your STARTUP drive (Startup is the drive that your OS is running on) then go to:
    http://superdrive.cynikal.net/
and download the appropriate Superdrive firmware for your computer. i have used this site several times. Make sure you follow the directions. This is a major change to the software that runs inside of your superdrive, but it usually does the trick for me when I have issues. If you have previously updated your firmware, and are now having issues, go back to the original firmware and see if that works, (it usually does for me). I have updated several times, and never had any issues. My superdrive is atleast 2 and a half years old with heavy use.
Not sure if Apple approves of doing this, but they don't seem to ever be very helpful with error messages, so this is the best solution for me.

Not really. You only need enough space to cover the amount of data being burned to the disc, which in most cases is 4.7 gb. You will need more if you are burning larger dvd's and/or dual layer. For years, I have only kept roughly 5 gb available on my system and haven't had any problems.

  • Image burn issue

Hi all, I am having the image burn issue on my sony vaio duo 11 like. Please check the following link for the images. In my case the burn is visible when the background is grey and I work in the desktop mode for some time. I request your feedback and help in solving this issue. http://bit.ly/11FTG08 [with comments] See the bottom. You can see Windows notification area there   You can clearly see a white navigation bar of google chrome which is opened in the desktop mode
I have taken all of these pictures with my mobile camera which is 3 years old. Otherwise the imageburn is very clear and distinct to me. Best regards,Naveen.

    kamesh419,
This is working as intended.  It is the transparent function of Aero.  If the user switches back to desktop view, you can see some of the Start Menu background.  This is not a burn in issue.
If you want you can turn off Aero and the transparent image will go away both in the Start Menu and also from the Desktop view.
    Turn off Aero
    1)      Go to the Start Menu
    2)      Type Computer
    3)      Right click on Computer and select properties
    4)      Click on Advanced System settings
    5)      Select Settings under Performance
    6)      Select “Adjust for best performance”
    7)      Click apply and ok.

  • OSS 3D caused iTunes burning issues

A bit of information for those that have iTunes burning issues.
I installed OSS 3D v 1.62, a sound enhancer programme for iTunes on 14/08/06 and started having CD burning issues... iTunes wouldn't burn beyond 2 tracks and then froze before "finishing".
On uninstalling OSS 3D today 19/08/06, the iTunes problem I encountered were fixed.
If you have issues re burning check recently installed software.

update ... ran sfc /scannow as admin.  windows reports 100% integrity.

  • Found solution to my CD burning issues

I posted a response to SoFLPhillyFan concerning my CD
burning issues. I may have been a bit hasty (sorry Apple).
I use MSI auto update for my chipset drivers. The auto
update indicated that I had the most recent drivers. This
was not true, as nVidia had a slightly more recent version.
Updating my chipset drivers solved the problem and I can
now burn CD's. Still, I did not have this problem prior to
    the 7.X iTunes update (hmmmm....).

Try placing the iPod in Recovery mode and then restore via iTunes.

  • Itunes 8.01 cd burning issues. Please Help

wondering if anyone else has been experiencing the same issue i have in itunes 8.01. When i burn a disc now i have an array of issues. 1st, with the same media i used successfully before, sometimes when i attempt to burn a audio cd i get a dialog box that reads burn disc fail, unable to calibrate the laser for this media. It happens at various write speeds, so not sure what wrong. Also the few disc i was successful in burning skip during playback and will-not play in certain cd players. The bottom of the disc is scratch-less and everything appears normal. Lost at the moment. Anyone have a solution or suggestions please help. Or is their a certain type of cd that works best.
    thank you
    bac

Just got it back from the shop? Did you mention the CD burning issues when you took it in? It really sounds to me like you have drive problems more than iTunes problems. The difference is indicated by whether or not Finder recognizes any given disk or not.
If Finder does not recognize that the drive has a disk in it or can't read the disk, that is most likely a drive problem and is best resolved by Apple service.
A possible long term, spend money option is to purchase a good external optical drive. If you burn lots of disks, this option makes more sense. I have a LaCie drive that burns all the current formats plus has Light Scribe capability. I don't recall getting a coaster out of it. Plus I can move it from computer to computer.
"1 coaster in 5 with 7" means that he got 1 bad disk out of 5 burns with iTunes version 7. If you have been using Time Machine than you can restore the application from the applications folder some time back, when you had a previous version of iTunes. If not, restoring an older version becomes more tricky and I have to rely on the advice of others to tell us how to do that.
If you are not backing up your system with Time Machine or something else (Time Machine is really the best, I think), back up a couple files from your iTunes folder. Copy and save somewhere the 'iTunes Library' file as well as the 'iTunes Music Library.xml' file. If something happens and all your library info (a list of all the music you've added plus playlists, etc) can be restored by simply replacing those files in your iTunes folder with the ones you saved somewhere else. You need to update the saved files periodically as you add music or otherwise change things in your iTunes, but that is no big deal. Just periodically re-copy the files to the place where they are saved and click 'Replace' in the pop-up when prompted.
Hope this helps. Please let me know.

  • Let's all contact Apple about CD imports and burning issues

While reading through the posts here, it appears that there are alot of us with issues dealing with iTunes and CD imports and CD burning. Even using Quicktime 7.1.3, I still cannot even play a CD track. I can use other applications to import music, but the bottom line is that iTunes should let us import CD tracks. It doesn't. If you are having problems with these slow CD imports, or CD burning with iTunes 7, then we all need to contact Apple. I suggest that instead of trying to find a workaround, lets all get Apple to correct their iTunes application. When you open iTunes, click on iTunes in the toolbar across the top of your monitor and scroll down to the line "Provide iTunes feedback" Fill out the questions and describe exactly what CD import/burning issues that you are having. We will not hear back from Apple individualy, but if we all start letting them know directly that there is an issue, maybe they will get the message and fix these problems. We all appear to be passionate about Apple and iTunes. Lets get these problems resolved. Okay?

I am having no problems. I did with my Ti667 when the optical drive died.
I am onto the latest version of iTunes and can report no problems for me.
Oppp......... my iTS country changes and I changed back and my account is in good order.

  • To all experiencing burn issues since updating to last version of iTunes

To all that have been experiencing difficulties burning music since updating to iTunes6:
After reviewing this discussion board it seems obvious to me -I am not a technician but nonetheless- that the problems that we are experiencing are due to some kind of incompatibility between our PCs and Apple.
While some here have been very helpful in trying to resolve these issues, I find it disgusting that Apple does nothing. Itunes customer support do nothing. We are left to fend for ourselves, frustrated by the amount of money we have invested in building up our music collections in order fot them to be held hostage because Apple and/or iTunes will not address the issue.
Did anybody bother reading the software license upon updateing to the earliest version? Is it too early to talk of "class action" suits?
It seems logical to me that we will be heard better by Apple if we speak as a collective and not individuals. Maybe that way we could put more pressure on them to either fix what needs to be fixed or refund the money we have invested in iTunes.
As for me, iTunes has already lost me as a client. I won't download any more music because there is nothing I can do with it. That doesn't seem to matter to them. I suppose this is what happens when you get too big for your own britches!
Any ideas on how we can take down the bully????

Lost data from iTunes on upgrade? See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.
Restored an older backup to the device? If you're lucky your most recent photos may be in your Photo Steam.
Otherwise you may need to paint a fuller picture of the problem...

  • Cd burner issues with Nero, Atapi and DMA

    Hello,
When i first build my AMD system with the specs below, everything was mostly fine on the IDE drive topic. Nero was burning fine, Alcohol 120 was working etc etc...
Recently when i decided to format my computer, things started to fail.
The OS install went fine, all drivers installed just fine with the exception of the NVidia SW drivers. When I opt to install these drivers, whether it be v 5.03, or 5.10, the system will hang if I insert a cd into the cd rom drive. It attempts to read, then the system will totally hang.
If these were uninstalled, it would work flawlessly. But that is off topic.
What i've read in these threads is that if I select to use PIO and not DMA on the cd rom ide channels in windows/bios, the burner would fine with Nero. With DMA turned on, the program will hang during the 'checking discs' window just before the burnging process begins. The burner doesnt even attempt to see the cdr in the drive.
But my question is, does anyone know why some of us need to disable DMA for the IDE drives/channels for it to work? I've read others were having problems reading from DVD drives etc with DMA enabled. Disabling DMA and using PIO only would see the DVD drive work fine.
Is this a known issue with the board or drivers?
BTW: I have 2 hdds on primary channel, and the single burner on the 2ndary channel as mater. Burner is an old Kodak/Mitsumi 4xCD burner, 2xCDRW.
Your thoughts will be much appreciated..
    Many thanks.

Got some more information based on the advice on this thread.
I tried removing all the 12 IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, and once rebooted, winxp would fail to startup.
So I restarted with the last known working settings, then I narrowed it down to the middle one of each of the channels to be the most important.
    - Primary IDE Channel 1
    - Primary IDE Channel 2
    - Primary IDE Channel 3
    - Secondary IDE Channel 1
    - Secondary IDE Channel 2
    - Secondary IDE Channel 3
    - Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller 1
    - Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller 2
    - Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller 3
After removing all 1 and 3's. A 'scan for hardware' change automatically detected them again and automatically installed them again with the MS drivers.
I have also tried the end ide connection from the 3 connector ide cable I was using, and still no luck.
Channel 0 with both the hdds installed are using the red round ide cable. While Channel 1 with the single burner is installed with the standard flat grey ide cables.
Bagmaster: This is the funny thing though. When i first built the computer, the burner was working absolutely fine with Nero. It wasn't until I format the computer and decided to use 5.10 drivers that it gave me problems. I then did another format with the old 5.03 drivers and yet, still no luck...
The problem mysteriously popped up after the format, and just doesn't want to go away.
tomkas: I may attempt your idea. I will let you know what comes from it. Hope it doesn't force me to make yet another format of the system.. I have done once too many on this computer than I'd done for my old Intel system for 4 years...
syar2003: Hmm, i'm not quite sure if these grey ide cables are 40 or 80pins. I've been using these since the early 2000's with my intel computer. Heck, i didn't even know they upped the pins?? I thought ide cables fit all new and old drives [whether they be hdd or cd drives]

  • Satellite P300 19P - CD/DVD Burning Issue

Hi, I am new to the forum and hope that somone will be able to help.
I am having problems burning DVD's. When I use burning software the image is usually copied ok and then the burning process starts, which usually lasts a couple of moments and then the machine spits out the disc part burnt and wasted.
I usually use Corel DVD Copy 6, but have tried the TOSHIBA programmes and others such as NERO. Using Corel VideoStudio, this burns discs with a 90% sucess rate, but the problem comes when trying to copy my own created discs.
I have tried different Disc types (ie +R and -R), and I have tried burning speeds too.
Has anbody else suffered this problem?
I have managed to find an error code 06077-26-2A040902 , does this mean anyhting to anyone?
The TEMPRO Alerts seem to have provided firmware updates for a number of other DVD drives, but not the one in my machine? Perhpas it is due one? All the drivers are up to date.
Thanks for listening and anybodies help is more than welcome.
    Cheers.

Hi, sorry it has taken so long to post a reply again - many apologies.
Thanks for you suggestion, which I have completed and tried. Although, this did help and I have managed to copy some discs with limited sucsess I am still having problems. I also made sure that the filters are still removed as mentioned.
I use Corel VideoStudio to create my discs, which seems to work fine. The initial burn is successful and will play in any DVD machine perfectly. Since this issue I have given up using Corel DVD Copy6 and reverted to using the Toshiba DVD Backup tool, but this only allows a single disc copy (can't produce multiple copies). This works with a very low success rate.
    I have so far:
    - Made sure lense and discs are clean.
    - Tried different media (+R and -R)
    - I use good quality discs.
    - Tried the filter removing as mentioned.
Is there any other suggestions as to what I can do to resolve this issue?
Many thanks for your continued help.

  • After upgrading to latest version of iTunes audio CD burning issues

    Hi,
I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and now when I try to burn a playlist as an audio CD it keeps telling me it won't fit on one CD and I have now gotten the playlist down to 1 hour and it is an 80 Min CD and it still won't let me do it. Anyone else having an issue and if so is there a solution?
    Thanks,
    Mike

I've seen this once before and deleting the playlist and recreating it with a different name solved it.
Also... try using disk utility to burn a data CD to make sure that burning generally works. Daft I know, but there you go.

  • FCP 7 "Share to blu-ray" burn issue.

This may not actually be a FCP issue, but possibly some of you here are experienced in the matter.
Firstly, my video is 1080/24p ProRes.
This is my first jump into Blu-ray, and I'm quickly learning the many work-arounds, but have run in to a problem.
Initially I tried exporting a QuickTime with "current settings", and dropping it in toast and encoding/burning.
Video looked pretty good, but it was choppy. Google tells me this seems to be a common issue with toast and 24p.
Most suggest encoding with Compressor and then burning with Toast.
Tried that, but I couldn't get it to just encode the files and that be all. It kept asking for a blu-ray disc and ejecting the drive, as if Compressor was going to burn it?
When I would choose "cancel burn", my only option, the whole batch would fail. After all that encoding time...
Wasn't too depressed, because after digging more, Google also told me that many believe the h264 encode using the "share" function in FCP produces better results. Though the options are non-existent, it did great. My only complaint is you are forced to convert audio to .ac3. Well that *****.
So I went ahead and exported all the audio from IN and OUT markers as .aiff.
This is where my problem arrives..
I threw the h264 and aiff in Toast, chose "never re-encode", and it burnt fine.
Video looks great, no stuttering. But the AUDIO! It slows drifts out of sync...
Video is an hour long, and at about 20 minutes in, it's 1-2 seconds behind, and goes from there.
    Why would that be?
    Any experience with this?
I checked, and the ac3 that FCP made, and the aiff are the EXACT same length.
Any thoughts? Or any other work-around for keeping audio lossless?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply, Johnny.
I wasn't saying AC3 s*u*c*k*s. And really.. Why is that word censored? I didn't do that.
I was saying it ***** that you ONLY have the option of AC3 with the "Share to blu-ray" feature.
And yea, I'm sure I would never know the differene, and especially not my grandparents with their home movies.
But it just seems d*u*m*b (can I say that?) to be going through all this trouble for a "lossless" lineage, ie. HD camera, FCP, Blu-ray burner/player, and have to compress the audio. Isn't that one of the main advantages of blu-ray?! Quality? Wether we can detect it or not?! Ha!. Okay..
I thought an easy workaround would be to export the audio to AIFF and drop it in.
No idea why it's drifting....but yes, in the end i may settle.
Though I'll feel cheated! Guess that's what I get for loving BOTH Apple and Blu-ray....
If anyone has other processes of getting good 24p to Blu-ray, please share!
    Thanks again.

  • Adobe Encore CS4, Blu-ray burning issues

    Greetings!
I'm trying to get some Blu-ray discs authored for a client and am running into a snag on the last 2 discs that remain. When it gets to actually writing to the BD media, it comes up with an error message (See screenshot).
This is starting to drive me up the wall as I've been fine all along with creating Blu-ray discs up until now, and I'm sure my client is getting anxious.
For what it's worth, I am using Verbatim DataLifePlus media, 25gb. As far as what I'm bringing into Encore (which I have been doing this method many times in the past with no snags whatsoever and getting great results), I'm using the Blu-ray M2V export option. There are no issues during the transcoding phase, it's just when it finally gets to actually writing to the media. I have created ISO's of the Blu-rays I'm trying to finish (Making the ISO files come out fine) and running into a snag using other software capable of burning disc images. With this said, what could be going on? Could my optical drive be kicking the bucket?
Also to point out, where it's telling me that there's not enough space, there is some remaining space.
An interesting thing to note as well, my write speed dropdown is grayed out (The media I'm using recommends 6X buring speed).
Any feedback would be hugely appreciated as I'm trying to get this job wrapped up.

If Ann's comment doesn't fix the issue for you, the most common workaround for this is to build to a folder and burn with ImgBurn (for PC) or toast (for Mac).
So what were the issues you ran into when you tried that.
I am sure you have searched this error, and you can see that there has been success in many situations. I do not believe that it is one problem.
I have generally believed that Ann is correct and that it refers to temporary storage on the hard drive. And users underestimate the amount of temporary hard disk drive space used.
Some users experience this error when they are creating dual layer BD disks, and a layer is more than 25G. Each video/layer must fit on one side.
And some users got resolution by reencoding to a lower bitrate (a 25G BD disk does not hold 25G). Encore uses padding to predict the size on disk (e.g. add 10% to the amount of space it predicts that build will use), and it can be wrong.
Always good to "run as administrator, though I don't know that ever fixed this issue if someone wasn't.

  • DVD DL burn issues - internal target error - fake hardware errors

I am receiving an error from DVD studio pro 3 and Toast 6 when burning DVD DL. The error only appears when burning Memorex and Verbatim discs (so far) using these applications. HP branded DVD DLs burnt fine from the same applications. Aside from the obvious, using only the HPs, has any one found a solution to this problem.
My error code is ....Formatting failed: internal device reports hardware error:internal target error 0x440x00...
I have tested this on other macs in my office and can repeat the error, so it leaves me to believe it is not actually hardware, but more over, likely firmware and or software upgrades. All equipment is less than 16 months old, intel chipped... I need a fix for our travel edit laptop - a Mac book pro.
Another thing that makes me conclude it isn't actually a hardware issue, the same discs that won't burn in Toast or DVDsp3, burn just fine using the finder's burning capabilties.
    Thanks!

its been a few days since I posted my problem- i'm not surprised there hasn't been any movement on this topic... seems to be the status quo for all topics about this DVD DL problem..
For those with a similar problem, I'll review my work around for the situation.
Here is the low down review of my problem:
    • the matSHITa DVD-R(UJ-846) will not burn DVD DLs from Toast 6 or DVD studio pro 3.
    • the Mac says internal hardware failure or sometimes a session error - see previous posts for code
    My work around:
    • export disc image from DVD studio pro
    • burn image as DVD-ROM (UDF) WITH simulation mode checked.
    • worked for Memorex 8x DVD+R DLs, Verbatim 8x DVD+R DLs not at 8x speed, used 2x setting.
It takes a longer time for this route but has work consistently on about 15 DVD burns so far... I'll post again if this fails or stops working.
Again that is an intel chipped Mac Book Pro and iMac with the matSHITa DVD burner. Yes I capitalized that 4 letter segment on purpose.
