Burning iTunes and AAC files

is it not possible to burn music you have bought off itunes onto CDs??
i want to be able to play it in my car however can only put songs that have not been bought through itunes onto cd.
whenever i try to do it my itunes will freeze and i have to close it then get the send error report message.
Im not sure if this is for any AAC file or just the itunes protected one?
any help much appreciated thanks

Matt you can get your iTunes file to MP3 or WAV but the process is a bit convoluted. You'll also lose some quality in the conversion process but you will have something you can play in your car or mp3 player (If it's not an ipod).
1) In preferences/Advanced/Burning
Choose disk format and burn the songs to Audio CD.
2) Once you have done that, again in preferences/Advanced/Importing
Change your import settings to MP3 encoder or WAV encoder and setting to Good Quality 128kbps (I find this works on just about every type of player) then load your CD, import your songs back into iTunes as mp3's.
At the end of the process you should finsh with both the original & mp3 version in your iTunes libary.
Hope this has been of some help

  • MP3 and AAC files mixed in burned Audio CD???

Here is the story. I am new to iTunes and I have a 400Mhz G4 AGP Machine running OS 10.2.8 and have Quicktime 6.5.3 installed. I also have a 93 Gig HD and 512 megs of RAM and a Sony CRX160E iLink CD burner. I was running iTunes 3.0.1 for a little bit and just upgraded to 4.7.1 about a week or 2 ago. Can I mix "MP3" encoded tracks with "AAC" tracks. I think that I read in the help menu that I had to use the "Data CD" option instead of the Music CD option. But, if this is so, can I still play this CD in a regular CD player? since was encoded with MP3 and AAC and it is formated as a Data CD??? The reason I am asking is because I encoded a bunch of songs as MP3s in 3.0.1 as default and I understand that AAC files are of slightly better quality so, I wonder if it would be worth it for me to re-import my songs in "AAC" for consistency. Consistency is my main concern. I want to be able to burn CDs with little problems (although I have some issues but, that is a different story) and mix formats if I can.
    Thanks,
    Larry

Thanks for your help! I just burnt a CD with mixed formats and it played fine in a "newer" CD player. My home CD player is older (Circa 80s or 90s?) and I have been told that the older CD players either can't or, don't like CDRs. So, it played fine in my son's newer CD player but, not in my "older" player. I am not too sure about the difference in sound quality yet. I'll have to do some more testing. The MP3 files and AAC files both sounded well when played. One annoying thing, though is the volume issue. Most of the songs played at a similar volume but, one played quite softly. An annoying thing but, I understand that even if you use the "Sound check" option, the sound can vary due to the fact that iTunes has a "fast" way of reading the sound levels and could be inefficient. I will try "iVolume" to see if that helps. It is supposed to be pretty good for iTunes except for the version 7 that just came out.
    Thanks again,
    Larry

  • Why won't my itunes import aac files i've downloaded nor will it even play them

For years i download off a website audiobooks and magazines in aac format from a website.  I name and save the file and then when it downloads i open it and it automatically would open in itunes and then remain in itunes.  I could then sync it to my ipod, iphone.  Simple, easy.  All of a sudden after downloading the last recent itunes software update.  10.3 i think.  everything stopped working.  i download a new files and i can't open them in itunes.  i cant drag it, i cant directly import the file. i cant even open the file using right click open with.  itunes.  I can open the file in windows media player so i know the file is good. I figured something might have been up with that version of itunes so i wanted for a new update, hoping that it would fix it itself.  Didn't work.  So i have the most current version of itunes.  All the files i want in itunes are saved and neatly organized.  i wonder if it's possible to just scrap everything and drag everything into a fresh downloaded version of itunes.

  • Maintaining AIFF and AAC files

I have my preferences set to import AIFF files, and I know how to convert these to AAC. But when I do this, it creates the AAC file in the same folder in the same library. I could just deselect the AIFF files in that library so only the AAC's are synched with the iPod, but I'd like to instead create a new iTunes library so I can take these AIFF files over to an external hard drive. How do do this?
    Greg

So I imported a new CD into the new libary using AIFF (required a preference change to AIFF), and I'm trying to find the most efficient way to get about 1000 CD's imported in AIFF in one library, and converted to AAC for the other library. Although it was effective, the process is too cumbersome. Is there an easier way?
When I did this with a single CD, I set my preferences to AIFF and imported that CD into my new AIFF master library. I then had to change my preferences back to importing AAC files. That gave me an option on the Advanced menu to Create AAC version. I created AAC versions of the 6 tracks on the CD within that AIFF master library. Then I went into Windows Explorer. Created a file folder for these AAC tracks in the AAC libary that I synch with my iPod. Then copied the entire folder from the AIFF library to the AAC library. Then deleted the AAC files from the AIFF folder and vice versa. Then I had to launch all files I copied in the AAC folder so iTunes would "see" them. Then I had to clean up iTunes in the AIFF libary from within iTunes by deleting the AAC tracks.
Are you kidding me? I'm about ready to hire somebody to sit here for a week. This is ridiculous.

  • Organizing/separating AIFF and AAC files

I have a collection of 2000 songs. Each song is stored in AIFF and AAC formats. I want to separate these into two separate collections. The problem is that I don't see a practical way to keep the organization intact.
Here are the possibilities I have come up with that don't seem to work:
    1) Create a full copy of the original directory then do a Windows search for *.m4a or *.aif and then delete all the files found, leaving only one file type within the new directory structure. (I don't have enough hard disk space to do this.)
    2) Dump 2000 unorganized m4a files into the iTunes Music folder and let iTunes organize them (iTunes doesn't seem to do this).
    3) Cannot simultaneously select files contained among different folders.
    Any help appreciated

Yeeha, We see this question pretty often, usually from folks who want a lossless copy to play on their stereo and a compressed copy to play in their iPod. Unfortunately, iTunes does not particularly support it, and you are on your own. The basic options are separate playlists, as crazygecko suggests, or separate libraries, as you were thinking.
Note that whichever you decide, once you set it up each new song you add will have to be handled twice. Nothing automatic will happen.

  • Old Macbook to New Macbook Air Transfer but new Macbook Air has less Storage Space. I only want to keep all iTunes and iPhoto Files. I can keep the rest on an External HD. How should I do this?

Bought a New Macbook Air and wanting to transfer only iTunes and iPhoto stuff to the new Macbook Air. How should I do this? Ive got and External HD acting as Time Machine but the Data on there is 143G worth and the New Macbook Air is a 128G HD. So i dont need all the extra Documents but want to keep them on the External HD which has been Partitioned.
Question is - How do I transfer the iTunes and iPhoto info into the New Macbook air and keep all its settings ect and also keep the Docs ect in the HD? Time Machine wont work as there is too much info for the New Macbook Air.
    What should I do?

In iTunes 11 uncheck the preferences setting in in the iTunes Preferences panel "Advanced > Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to Library"

  • Deleting Unnecessary iTunes and Quicktime Files

Having installed and subsequently updated iTunes and Quicktime (with both programs being parts of one update "package"), I believe I may have many unnecessary files on my machine which Apple's installation and updating processes did not throw out or which are created when the programs are used but not thrown out after usage.
Can you tell me if I can safely delete the files in the following folders?
In the location C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\apple computer\installer cache\, the files in the following folders, which together use up 92MB of disk space: Apple Software Update 1.0.2.1, iTunes 7.0.2.16, iTunes 7.1.0.59, QuickTime 7.1.5.120.
In location C:\documents and settings\myname\local settings\application data\apple computer\quicktime\downloads\, the set of folders and subfolders which collectively contain 37MB of files with the extension .qtch.
    Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, but what you're referring to has absolutely nothing to do with the problem I described in my post. You described how to change the display language WITHIN iTunes. My problem is the target and name of the start menu shortcut "Om iTunes", which on my PC opens a Swedish rtf file. Changing the iTunes language does not change the name and/or target of the shortcut.
The problem is that the iTunes (and QuickTime) installers assume I understand Swedish if my English Windows XP PC is configured to use Swedish date, time and currency formats. This is not necessarily the case, as I tried to explain in my original post.

  • How to directly burn .m2v and .ac3 files on a DVD?

I made a DVD movie processing on Compressor but I forgot to select the "Job Action" (Create DVD), so now I have the 2 files .m2v and .ac3 but I have to burn the DVD. How can I do without re-processing the original movie?
    Thanks

If you have Toast or DVD Studio you can use these files. If not, you'll may need  to re-encode the movie.
But try this if you saved the the Compressor project that made those elementary streams. Reopen it and slightly change the name of the output files (say, by adding a numeric prefix to each name). When you do the yellow warning triangle should go away. Change the job action to burn DVD and submit, If it works, you should get a near-complete progress bar in a matter of seconds. Then you should be able to burn your physical disk or make a disk image for multiple copies.
    Good luck.

  • I recently lost access to external hard drive connected to my iMac (no icon visible). My iTunes and iPhoto files are accessed from this drive.  I can't seem to get the time machine to restore these two. that drive was NOT excluded from time machine backup

    Hi.
help!  recently I noticed  the external drive icon missing from my desktop...the one with my huge itunes and iphoto libraries. I tried several things but couln't get it back. So I tried to restore to an older date in time machine with no success. I'm sure the drive was not set for exclusion from the backups. Any thoughts as to where i'm going wrong? I was under the impression that external drives were also backed up with time machine...am I delusional?

Frequently doing a SMC reset will help this issue, for directions please click the iMac SMC and PRAM reset link. Also check the obvious such as cables and connections. Or it's even possible the EHD has failed, they can and do.

  • Buying new computer, tranferring iTunes and music files

I plan to buy a new computer in the very near future.
If I download iTunes and then log into it with my user name, will all my library and art work be there? Or do I have to do something else to take all this information from my old computer to my new computer?

*If I download iTunes and then log into it with my user name, will all my library and art work be there?*
    No, nothing will be there.
You need to install iTunes onto the new computer, then copy the _iTunes folder_ (My Documents/My music/iTunes) from your old computer to the new computer.

  • Can I burn .m4a and .mp3 file on the same CD?

I downloaded a few podcasts and have one in .m4a format, the other in .mp3.
Can both be burned onto the same CD via iTunes -- or do I need to convert?
And if so, what format should both podcasts be in?
    Thanks.

Can both be burned onto the same CD via iTunes
    Yes.
And if so, what format should both podcasts be in?
If you want an audio CD, just put all files into a playlist and click *Burn CD* then select Audio CD. iTunes will convert them to CD audio.
Selecting Data CD/DVD in iTunes will burn the files as they are. They can be MP3, AAC, AIFF or whatever and will be burned in that format (useful for backing up files)
If you select MP3 CD (this is the format of the files on the CD), the files must already be in MP3 format.
This is the same as a Data CD/DVD except iTunes will use only MP3 files (because many players can play MP3 files).

  • Itunes and aac+

Is there any plans for aacPlus decoding for itunes in the future?
There are many online radio stations that have been broadcasting aacPlus streams for a while, and other players such as winamp, real player, vlc player, have all adpated this stunning format since is provides a much better quality sound a extermely lower bitrates.
I'm just curious when itunes might add this codec to there list of compatible formats.
