Burning music CD fails

Hi,
I've been having problem with burning music CD from iTunes.
I tried variety of CD-R's (Verbatim, Memolex, Maxell, Office Deipot brand, etc) . Sometimes Memolex works with very low speed (2X), but most of times fails with other brands.
What I saw is that iTunes prepared songs successfully but after start burning progress bar didn't move at all (for tens of minutes) and looked waiting for response from CD-R devices.
I tried with 2 machines below.
1. Mac mini (Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 1GB memory) with PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K06RS: (replaced from factory part), OS 10.5.8
2. Macbook (Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 2GB memory) with HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS21N (LG?) (Apple shipping device), OS10.5.8
iTunes version is 10.6.3.
Does anyone have same problem and/or solution?
Best regards,
-Ichiro

I'm so sorry that I was confused for reporting.
Actually Macbook worked fine. Issue exists only on Mini.
So please let me clarify issue again here:

I tunes: I am using version 12 of I tunes. Ever since downloading it I get the message when trying to burn a playlist it says, The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc could not be read from or written to.
I uninstalled V-12 and then reinstalled it. This enabled me to burn a disc again but after a couple of tries I received the same error message again. Has Apple put out a fix to this problem that anyone is aware of?
    Thanks.

    Hi rossfrombluffton,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below provides some general things to consider when burning a disc with iTunes.  I would also try burning a music CD and a data disc from a different application in the Windows OS and trying a different brand CD just to confirm the issue is not with the optical drive.
Can't burn a CD in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-ae/HT203173
Find out what to do if you can't burn an audio CD using iTunes for Windows. Sometimes an audio disc may not burn as expected. Here are some things to check.
    Update iTunes
Download and install the latest version of iTunes for Windows.Check for unauthorized songs
iTunes will stop burning a disc if you purchased one or more of the songs in a playlist from the iTunes Store and the songs aren't authorized to play on your computer. This message should appear: "Some of the files can not be burned to an audio CD. Do you still want to burn the remainder of this playlist? For more information on why some files can not be burned, click below."
To find out which songs aren't authorized, play each song in the playlist. Songs that play are authorized. Songs that don't play aren't authorized. You'll be asked to authorize any unauthorized songs.Make sure your playlist will fit on a single CD
If there are too many songs in a playlist to fit on a single CD, iTunes should ask if you want to burn multiple discs or cancel the burn. This message should appear: "The songs in this playlist will not fit on one Audio CD. Do you want to create multiple Audio CDs with this playlist split across them? This will require more than one blank CD to complete."
If you click the Audio CDs button, the burn will continue and you'll be asked to insert blank CDs until the playlist is completely burned. If you click cancel, the burn will be canceled.
To make the playlist shorter so that it will fit on a single CD, select a song to remove from the playlist and choose Edit > Clear. Repeat this step until the duration of the playlist is between 60 and 80 minutes. The duration appears at the top of the playlist window. Most CD-R discs can hold 60 to 80 minutes of music.
Check how many times you've burned the playlist
An unchanged playlist that contains songs purchased from the iTunes Store can be burned no more than seven times.Additional steps and submitting feedback

  • The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4310).

I have been able to burn CDs from music I bought off iTunes. I haven't had any problems until now.
I just purchased Mike Doughty's Haughty Melodic, the whole album. Everytime it gets almost done burning, it gives this error:
"The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4310)."
I have wasted 3 blank CDs trying to burn this. I have a lot of experience with computers, I know there is nothing wrong with my hardware.
Is this is a problem with one of the files? Is there some kind of sub-routine that iTunes runs when trying to burn a CD? I have no idea why this is happening.
    Anyone have some advice?
    Thanks

It doesn't matter if I try to back up all music or only music purchased from itunes. So far I have not been able to back up anything. Can someone please help me!!!! I have tried everything on the support website from apple, and nothing has worked. I am beginning to get very frustrated.
    Thanks

+I know my computer is up to date on firmware, because I just bought this laptop 4 months ago - it's a brand new Dell Inspiron 1721.+
Actually, in that case I definitely think you should check your firmware. I just had a look at the 32-bit Vista downloads page at Dell for your Inspiron 1721, and there's firmware updates listed there for four different drive models, all dated within the last four months.

On an older Mac I got this message while trying to burn a CD for the car: "The attempt to burn a disc failed.  The burn failed because of a medium write error."  What does this mean?  And how do I work around it?

I had been getting this all morning and checked other messages from the community. THe one which worked was trying a different brand of disc.
I had been using Verbatim which had copied the music fine off the Real Player on my PC at school, but wouldn't work with I Tunes. Tried a Staples and an Office Depot CD-R , both of which did the job.

  • I own an eMac. I really enjoy burning my iTunes playlists to a cd. But, now an error message pops up just after iTunes prepares the disc for burning. The message states this: The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (-3). Any advice?

Hey everyone! So, here is my problem. I own an eMac. I enjoy burning my iTunes playlists to a CD. Well, all of a sudden, right after iTunes prepares the disc for burning an error message pops up and says this: The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (-3). Any suggestions on how to correct this problen so I can continue burning my playlists???
    Thanks,

Hi, I'e never heard of that error before!???
Is this purchased music, or your own music files?

  • The attempt to burn a disk failed. An unknown error occurred (4000).

Whenever I try to burn a CD from iTunes, the burning process starts and continues for about two minutes, cancels automatically and then displays the following statement: "The attempt to burn a disk failed. An unknown error occurred (4000)."
Several Apple technicians have tried but been unable to assist me. They have pointed me to articles at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93360 and http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93286 but none of the suggested solutions solve the problem.
    1. I have the most recent version of iTunes (6.0.1).
    2. All of the songs that I am trying to burn are authorized. For example, they include the Complete U2 Collection, which I recently downloaded from the iTunes Music Store.
    3. I am not trying to burn a CD with the same Playlist more than seven times.
    4. My CD burner works perfectly fine using other CD burning software, such as Windows Media Player or Roxio Easy Media Creator. However, these programs are not compatible with any of the many pieces of music that I have purchased and downloaded from the iTunes Music Store.
My hardware configuration is as follows:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
    HP Pavilion 061 PJ467AA-ABA M1180N
    iTunes 6.0.1.3
    CD Driver 2.0.4.3
    CD Driver DLL 2.0.3.2
    LowerFilters: PxHelp20 (2.0.0.0), drvmcdb (1.0.0.1), Iviaspi (1.0.0.0), Pfc (2.5.0.204), Cdr4_xp (7.5.0.47),
    UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.0.4.3), Cdralw2k (7.5.0.47), pwd_2k (7.5.0.47),

    Found aspi32 running.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can restore my ability to burn CDs from iTunes? Thank you very much!

I am having the same problem. I get an error 4450 - unknown. I have purchased several songs but it appears I will not be able to burn them to CD.

  • Attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4280).

I put a blank CD in. I open iTunes. I click on a play list and attempt to burn. It checks the play list like everything is fine and seems like it begins to burn the first track. Then after a few seconds it says *_canceling disc_*. It ejects the CD and an error message comes up: "_*The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4280).*_" I thought that the new update (7.6.2) might include a fix for this. No such luck of course! Have had this problem for awhile and have researched it on the internet. I am not the only one with this problem and people have been posting about this error since 2005! CDs burn fine and Media player. What's the deal? I thought Mac was supposed to be superior to Windows? I have a Slimtype DVDRW SSM-8515S drive. I have tried HP's solutions, lower burn speed, clicking this and that, ect. Please help. This problem makes me wish I didn't have an iPod. The only reason I started using iTunes was because of the iPod. +Not happy with this or Mac at all+. I don't care how cool their commercials are!
P.S. Have tried all of the suggestions from the following site:
    http://www.smokeandashes.net/2005/01/burnbaby_burn.html
These suggestions have worked for some people, but not me. Maybe they will help others who are experiencing the same unfortunate problems.

  • Why won't my computer burn music onto blank CDs

I am trying to burn music onto my blank CD but a notification will pop up saying "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the lazer power level fo this media." Sometimes it is able to burn music onto the CD though. Any ideas how to fix this?

    Try:
    - A lens cleaning disc to clean dust off the laser lenses,
    - A slower burn speed
    - Better quality CDs
    - It is also possible your drive is faiiling and will need replacing or you use an external Superdrive.

  • "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate...."

Using my "new" used 20inch-iMac G5, I just successfully burned my first music cd.
Moments later, I tried (repeatedly, with a half-dozen different blank cds) to burn a second music cd, and got the following message each time:
"The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."
    1) What does that message mean?
    2) What should I do next to fix the problem?
    thank you

I'm really getting tired of this, so I decided to bit the bullet and try to get it fixed. (Note that I'm talking about a 2-year old G5 iMac.)
    THE BAD NEWS:
Apple store genius bars see this error "a lot" (even just this week), and it's usually the optical drive that needs to be replaced.
    THE GOOD NEWS:
In Apple's article Do It Yourself iMac G5 parts you can install, they say, "iMac G5 computers are designed to make it easy for you to install replacement parts if you need to. These parts are known as Do It Yourself (DIY) parts." Listed among these parts is the optical drive. Apple even provides a PDF manual describing the simple process of replacing the optical drive.
    THE IRONY:
An Apple store will NOT sell you this part, even at their high price of $221. They insist on doing the installation. And the price for this 10-minute procedure -- described in their online manual as sliding the drive into place and replacing the screws -- is an additional $130 (and I'm guessing they won't do it while you wait). That seems to be a labor rate of around $780 per hour for a "Do It Yourself" replacement that they won't let you do yourself.
So Apple's $351 price to (maybe) get an old G5 iMac burning CDs again is almost 1/3 of what a brand new aluminum Core 2 Duo iMac costs.
    THE UPSIDE:
Online third parties will sell you a "genuine Apple" super drive for around $145 (or a combo drive for $95) to install yourself. (Use Google to search for "imac g5 optical drive replacement cost.")

  • Burning music from music store

I just bought an album from the iTunes Music Store and tried to burn it to a CD-R but it came up with an error reading "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media." I don't know what else to do. I have done all the steps for burning correctly but it still doesn't work and I have tried it with more than one disc.

I finally found the workaround.( I received the same error message.)
Set the Preferred Burn speed to 2X
Quit all your other Applications before you start your burn.
It's slow but it does work on my G4/450 Cube.
    Hope this helps.

  • "the attempt to burn a disc failed.  you do not have enough access privileges for this operation"

I just changed my password for my apple i.d. so I could purchase a  new album.  I then bought the album, put it into a playlist to burn it to a cd-rw.  And when i click ok to start the copy i keep getting this message   "The attempt to burn a disc failed.  You do not have enough access privileges for this operation"  I have no idea what to do as to there is nothing on google except for write access.  Which i don't need.  Any suggestions?

Oddly enough. I think I just solved it. It looks like, for some reason, my computer has about 8 different "iTunes music" folders, and I've been saving my music to the wrong one. Neat. Music now imports and plays as it should. Copying things over is going to be so fun tonight!
