Burning music onto a blank cd...

I have a macbook pro and I want to burn music onto a blank cd. Do I need to buy a certain kind of CD to do this?

Yes, you want the CD-R for audio cd's for most standard cheap audio players, not ideal for re-ripping. Holds anywhere from 10-20 songs or so.
CD-R or DVD-R or DVD DL-R for Mp3 cd's depending upon the machine it's being played upon what it can accept for MP3 Cd's.
Mp3 Cd's can hold upwards of a 100 songs per CD, more per DVD and even more for dual layer DVD's and awesome anount on Dual Sided Dual Layer DVD's, although one will have to flip it over to use the other side.
Burn DATA CD's and DVD's in iTunes if you want all the other accompanying information, album covers etc, to backup and/or use with another machine.
It's ideal to make Data DVD's every once in awhile of all your music, because rewritable media like hard drives and even SSD's can lose files once in awhile, so you can go back over the archived music for fresh copies.
CD+R and CD-R are two slightly different disk formats, but most all machines now can use either, perhaps only very old machines can only use CD-r or CD+R (ditto for DVD+R, DVD-R)
It's good to check anyway just to make sure.

  • Why won't my computer burn music onto blank CDs

I am trying to burn music onto my blank CD but a notification will pop up saying "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the lazer power level fo this media." Sometimes it is able to burn music onto the CD though. Any ideas how to fix this?

    Try:
    - A lens cleaning disc to clean dust off the laser lenses,
    - A slower burn speed
    - Better quality CDs
    - It is also possible your drive is faiiling and will need replacing or you use an external Superdrive.

  • HT203242 it still wont let me burn music onto a cd

everytime i try to burn music onto a cd it says software not found. i tryed almost everything can you help me.

You can only drag and drop if you have iTunes configured to manually manage music. With the iPod connected to the compute go to the Summary pane for the iPod and check the box under Options that says sync only checked songs and videos.

  • Blank data CD doesn't show up in finder window, but I can burn music onto..

When I load a blank CD (or CD-RW), iTunes opens. But no icon shows up, either in iTunes, in the Finder window or on the Desktop. If I select a playlist in iTunes, the Burn Disc icon appears and I can burn the disc (even thought I can't see it). Once burned, the disc DOES show up on the Desktop and all is well.
HOWEVER, I cannot move data onto a blank disc. System Profiler says the disc is loaded, but the Finder doesn't see it. I saw something somewhere about running "repair permissions," but I don't know how to do that and don't know whether it's the thing to do, anyhow.
    Thoughts, anyone?
    Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

One possibility is that you have "Ignore" selected for when you insert a blank CD.
To change this go to System Preferences below the blue , then click on CDs&DVDs. From this box you are able to change the preferences for when a disc is inserted.
Changing it to "Ask what to do" will prompt a dialog box where you can choose an "action" such as open the Finder. This should allow the disc icon to be visible on the desktop when a blank disc is inserted.
    Hope this helps.

  • Trouble burning music onto CD

I transferred songs directly from my CD to the HD and then burned them onto a CD; however, when played, the songs skip. The music is all AIFF. What am I doing wrong?

    Hello Carolyne.
Sometimes Macs are very picky about blank CDs in my experience. They definitely do not like the really cheap ones from Aldi and similar places. Sometimes they don't like more expensive brand names either - I wasted money on an entire pack of Memorex discs - every one was a failure.
Try a different brand is the only advice I can give you.
I have found my brand - Verbatim's blanks are reasonably priced and I have always had good results with them.

  • Burning music onto a dvd

I want to burn music and back up my library onto dvds.  when I start it the Itune software becomes unresponsive and freeze.  What can I do to solve this problem, when on the program it say a backup can be performed with cd/dvd.

I think you'll find that when you burn a very short video (therefore a small DVD size wise) then it tkaes longer as the burner is writing the "lead-out" and has to fill the disc up to a certian point or it won't play properly.
I could be wrong but I think that's why it takes the time.

  • Burning Paylist onto a blank CD

I burned a CD onto my iTunes(Norah Jones). iTunes accepted it and I can play from iTunes on the iMac. however, if I burn the playlist onto a blank CD to play in my Sony disk player, nothing happens. It acts like is did not burn. Am I doing somthing that Apple is telling me I should not do????
    Fred

I got the same message a couple of tries last week. I tried a restart and that didn't work. I have a SuperDrive, so I figured I would try a DVD (I had a lot of files that needed to be backed up anyway) and the DVD worked fine. It was just the CD-Rs. After a while, it inexplicably worked. So far this week, I've tried three CDs and it's burned fine. I hope this is addressed in the next dot-update.

  • How do I burn music onto USB on a MAC?

I have a Macbook Pro and I just bought an f150. I'd like to transfer music from iTunes to a USB. I tried opening itunes and the USB folder and dragging to copy but that didn't work. Other suggestions? Thank you

USB is a connection type and doesn't make sense on its own in the context you use it -- you can have a USB [mouse].  Do you mean a flash drive?  If you do, highlight the drive, get info, and check the formatting.  Most come formatted FAT32 which should be compatible with your Mac for what you want to do.  If it says NTFS then you will need to reformat to FAT32 using DIsk Utility.  Macs cannot write to NTFS which is a Windows format.

Can someone explain how to burn files onto a blank DVD, please?  I have iMac with Lion and DVD-RW.  When I insert the DVD, no icon appears on my desktop.  If I go into the disk utility, the disk shows up there.  Then I click BURN, and a window opens up for me to select files.  But all the files are grayed out and non-functional.  What am I doing wrong?

  • HT1657 Am I able to download a movie I purchased onto a blank DVD?

I want to purchase This is the End, but I'm wondering if I can burn it onto a blank DVD like I can with songs onto a CD.

If you mean a data DVD for storage and transport, yes.
If you mean a video DVD for playback outside of iTunes, no.
