Burning music onto a dvd

I want to burn music and back up my library onto dvds.  when I start it the Itune software becomes unresponsive and freeze.  What can I do to solve this problem, when on the program it say a backup can be performed with cd/dvd.

I think you'll find that when you burn a very short video (therefore a small DVD size wise) then it tkaes longer as the burner is writing the "lead-out" and has to fill the disc up to a certian point or it won't play properly.
I could be wrong but I think that's why it takes the time.

  • Burning videos onto a DVD

I bought the first season of the TV show LOST assuming I could burn it onto a DVD. I have a DVD burner and blank DVD's but I can't figure out how to burn the shows. Does itunes allow that?

Gentlemen, Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    From the Apple Knowledge Base:
Videos purchased from the iTunes Music Store have FairPlay digital rights management embedded in the files and are in a format that can be readily synced to a Fifth Generation iPod. Just like with music you purchase from the iTunes Music Store, you own the videos you purchase. You can authorize up to five computers to play purchased videos, and you can sync the video to as many iPods as you like. iPod can contain purchased content from up to five accounts; iTunes will not allow you to add data from a sixth account to iPod.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301461
What this means in relation to your questions is that you can
    b and should
back up the videos you've purchased from iTMS.
One method of doing so is to burn the files to a DVD as a Data disc. But you will only be able to view them on an iPod or an authorized computer.
You cannot burn them to a DVD for playing on your home entertainment set-up, though ... unless that set-up includes an authorized computer. You would not probably want to do so anyways since the videos have a resolution of only 320 x 240 pixels and watching them on a full size screen (or medium size screen for that matter) would not be the optimum viewing experience.

  • Burning music onto a blank cd...

I have a macbook pro and I want to burn music onto a blank cd. Do I need to buy a certain kind of CD to do this?

Yes, you want the CD-R for audio cd's for most standard cheap audio players, not ideal for re-ripping. Holds anywhere from 10-20 songs or so.
CD-R or DVD-R or DVD DL-R for Mp3 cd's depending upon the machine it's being played upon what it can accept for MP3 Cd's.
Mp3 Cd's can hold upwards of a 100 songs per CD, more per DVD and even more for dual layer DVD's and awesome anount on Dual Sided Dual Layer DVD's, although one will have to flip it over to use the other side.
Burn DATA CD's and DVD's in iTunes if you want all the other accompanying information, album covers etc, to backup and/or use with another machine.
It's ideal to make Data DVD's every once in awhile of all your music, because rewritable media like hard drives and even SSD's can lose files once in awhile, so you can go back over the archived music for fresh copies.
CD+R and CD-R are two slightly different disk formats, but most all machines now can use either, perhaps only very old machines can only use CD-r or CD+R (ditto for DVD+R, DVD-R)
It's good to check anyway just to make sure.

  • Why won't my computer burn music onto blank CDs

I am trying to burn music onto my blank CD but a notification will pop up saying "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the lazer power level fo this media." Sometimes it is able to burn music onto the CD though. Any ideas how to fix this?

    Try:
    - A lens cleaning disc to clean dust off the laser lenses,
    - A slower burn speed
    - Better quality CDs
    - It is also possible your drive is faiiling and will need replacing or you use an external Superdrive.

I have problems with my films that become slightly jerky after I have imported
and edited them in iMovie and then burned them onto a DVD using iDVD.
I can see the weak jerkiness when panning in both laterally
    and vertically.
I shoot with a camcorder Canon Vixia HF10. The camera has been set to deliver HD quality (1920x1080). But I have accidentally filmed with a frame rate of 60 (?).
When I import the films in iMovie I have been asked if I want to change to frame rate 30 (instead of 25). I have chosen 30.
Could it be the setting of a frame rate 60 in my camcorder that causes jerkiness when panning or what else?

  • Can I burn photos onto a DVD/CD for non-Mac users?

Can I burn photos onto a DVD/CD for non-Mac users?

You can burn a plain CD/DVD by just dragging the photos there; but, that may or may not be playable by everyone. To be sure that the result would be playable in any computer or CD/DVD player, it would be better to use either one of the apps already on your system - such as iPhoto. I don't use that myself - I use other third party software - but take a look at iPhoto help. And, you could make it more interesting by creating a slideshow - also in iPhoto, or iMovie. To give it the final cool touch, bring it into iDVD to give it a polished look if you'd like. You can burn it then from any of the above.
If you happen to have Toast (an excellent burning app), you could use that as well (that is my preferred way to work). In Toast, you have multiple choices: burn a data CD/DVD for Mac only, for Mac & PC, etc, burn a picture CD, video DVD, etc, etc.

  • Burning photos onto a dvd

I am trying to burn photos onto a DVD and I always get an error that I need to remove the number of photos selected becayse the file is too big. Is there anyway to see how much space I have as I am adding images? thanks

I find the "burn folder" very useful. While in the fFinder, click the file menu:
and select "New Burn Folder." Like Klaus says, it gives you a size as you populate it. I like these because I can have a folder ready to burn when someone asks for a CD or DVD of images, or when I need to make multiple copies.
A burn folder is easy to spot because it gets a different icon (this is from OS 10.6.8):
and you can rename it anyway  your like (ex., "2012 Family Reunion")

  • I made an imovie project that's over 2 hours so iDVD won't let me burn it onto a DVD.  What do I do?

I made an iMovie project that's over 2 hours long so iDVD won't let me burn it onto a DVD.  What do I do now?

Would I need to switch the disk in the middle of it burning so it can burn the other side
No, you do not flip over the disk.  The dual-layers are both on the same side of the disk. You can't see them, they are just there, and iDVD will do what is necessary if it needs to burn both layers.
You would only flip over a disk if it were a "double-sided" disk.  That's an entirely different kind of disk and it has only one layer on each side.  Those are much older kinds of disks that were used commercially before the advent of dual-layer disks.   I don't know anyone who uses them any more.

    please advise!

    Buy iDVD.
Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the substitutes.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD.
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/idvd.html
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.  (works with all Mac OS 10.5 and newer.)

  • How do you burn pictures onto a dvd?

Hello. I need some help. I been working on trying to burn pictures onto a dvd but still have the pictures in order from at least oldest to newest. I know how to burn pictures I just don't know how to keep them in order still. I have over 7000 pictures on iphoto (i kept dreading saving them lol) and I need to get them to a dvd. I was thinking on making different albums then saving them that way but that's such a hassle. I would rather have just the pictures. Any advice would really much be appreciated!

Welcome to the Apple user to user discussion forums
    Files is Files
THe order they are displayed in is determined by the sort order specified in the file viewer you are using and is totally independent of how they are recorded on the DVD
For example if you are using the finder you can go to the view menu ==> show options and select from a number of sort options (they depend on the view you have) which included date created and date modified -- note that a file viewer is only looking at file dates - it has no knowledge of photo dates which are recorded in the EXIF data within the photo

  • HT201788 How do I burn photos onto a DVD from iPhoto?

I am trying to burn photos/folders from iPhoto onto a DVD/CD but when disc utility opens I am unable to burn any of the items or folders onto the disc.  I thought that my optical drive was perhaps malfunctioning so I purchased a SuperDrive.  However, I am running into the same problem. The folders or pictures within, that I want to burn remain inactive.  How can I burn these pictures onto DVD/CD?

What kind of DVD disk do you want to create?  A data disk that just contains the image files or a video DVD disc that can be played on a DVD player on a TV set.  They are two entirely different types of disks and require different workflows.
If you're running Yosemite then you have iPhoto 9.6 or 9.6.1.
    For a data disk:
1 - select the photos to be burned to disk and export to a folder on the Desktop File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu.  Set the Kind = what you want, the original file or the current, edited version.
2 - insert a blank DVD in the optical drive.
3 - drag the folder of photos onto the DVD disk's icon.
3 - drag the DVD disk icon to the Trash Bin in the Dock which turns into the Burn function:
    For a video DVD disk:
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • How do i burn files onto a DVD??

I got a NEC 2510A and it didnt come with any software
I put in a DVD disc and windows doesnt seem to have the ability to burn files onto it like a regular CD-R.
I guess i have to use a program?
What is the most popular program for burning files onto DVD discs?  I am not copying DVD's just using the discs as backup for files.
    Help thanks!

Adeptecs easy cd/dvd creator, also works and has improved greatly from 5.0.  It now almost competes with nero, there is also discjuggler and several other burning suites.  Depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend.  Probably nero will be your best option.
