Burning? Not Burning?

I recently upgraded to iLife08, but found that I couldn't install iMovie08 on my G4. So I'm using iMovie 3.0.3 with iDVD08. When I try to burn it on DVD-R 4.7GB discs everything seems to work fine. I check it periodically & it progresses fine until I eventually find only my desktop displayed. I'm not finding any error messages or unexpectedly quit boxes. The old version used to allow you to burn another disc. Is it normal for iDVD to quit after it burns? The discs are then not recognised by either of my DVD players (both of which play my older burns). I tried saving to a Disk Image & the same thing happened & no Disk Image to be found!
Anyone have any clues as to what's going on here?

I checked my orginal G4 disc as well as my Panther & Tiger discs also & can't find any sign of it.
It will be on your original install discs that came with your computer. It WON'T be on your Panther & Tiger discs. You may need an application called Pacifist to get at it. ( www.charlessoft.com/ )

  • LaCie d2 Blu Ray Burner not burning in Encore Mac

So I've built a blu ray disk in Encore and all set to burn the Blu Ray disk. When I hit burn, the LaCie drive asks for a disk. When I put the disk in, it waits and waits and then spits it back out. The disk is blank, and is a writeable Blu Ray disk. I am able to create a disk image but not burn it to a blu ray using my mac. Any imput?
    Thanks,
    Casey

The preferred method for many of us is not to use Encore to burn. For Mac, use toast. (For PC, imgburn.)
I always suspect permissions issues and/or other software taking control.

  • Pioneer Burner not burning

I posted this on another thread but maybe it needs it's own. I have been having a problem with a new pioneer DVR 112D. It worked well for a while but now I can only read CDs but not burn them. I have the latest firmware installed v 1.24, This drive is a replacement for one that died about 6 months ago. I have OS 10.4.11, the newest patch burn installed, repaired permissions, repaired disk from a start-up disk, tried to burn from toast, and itunes, and disk burn. I looked in the LaunchDaemons folder for the WD file but it was empty. I called Pioneer and while it is still under warrantee, I have to send it in and wait 4 weeks to get it back. Not good service in this day and age! Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Japmac,
Nice to hear from you again, you have helped me in the past. I does read CDs and DVDs fine. I downloaded a disk burning program from apple called Simplyburns just to see if it was a toast or iTunes problem. It did not work either but did give me a new error message. "The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media" I did just try to burn a DVD and it worked! So maybe only the CD burning it not working. Is there a cleaning method that will work?
I did call the place I purchased it from first (Best Buy), they were not helpful either. Worst comes to worst I will bring it to the store and ask for a manager, If they will not replace it I will leave it there in protest and buy a new one (maybe Sony) someplace else.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Cd burner not burning

hi, my emac is not reading blank cd-r's...it is reading previously burned cd's but when I insert a new blank cd to burn I get a 'medium write error' message...I have tried various brands [maxell, sony, imation, tdk]...does anyone know what could be the problem?
    emac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Might just be a dirty laser on the burner. Try running a cleaning disc through your drive which is essentially not much more than a CD with little brushes attached to the underside of the disc. You can usually find them at places like Radio Shack.
I have read many reports of people reviving bad drives with a simple cleaning.

  • Please help! why is the DVD burner not burning dual layer media in my G5?

I have tried, unsuccessully, to burn dual layer DVD's on my G5 using the latest iDVD software (iLife '08) but to no avail. I switch to dual layer in iDVD but invaribly, I always get a multiplexing error at the end of the burn. Any suggestions?

Are there any plans to update OS 10.4.11 to include a firmware update for the DVD drive? Or has it already been changed in Leopard?
Depending on what model of Superdrive you have, there may be a firmware update from the manufacturer, just not from Apple. Updating to the latest firmware from the manufacturer often provides for better media compatibility, faster burn speeds, and sometimes even features that were disabled by Apple's version of the firmware.
DVD-R DL discs have one major drawback if you're using them to burn video DVDs - you have no control over where the layer break is placed. The first layer must always be filled completely before any data is written to the second layer. DVD+R DL does not have this limitation. You can place the layer break anywhere you like, just as long as the first layer is more full than the second.

  • Burner not burning- one error after another ...

    greetings
i am trying to burn photo files to cd.
it's running tiger 10.4.11, recently updated by somebody who works for apple at their main headquarters and now the machine is a mess. it's considerably slower, takes forever to load pages, and have been trying completely unsuccessfully to get about five gigs of photos backed up on something other than this 800 dollar paperweight for two weeks now.
i knew i should not have let that guy touch my stuff. i'm completely screwed here.
    please somebody help me
    error codes abound-
    0x80020063
    0x80020022
    thanks

well i had to buy the keyboard (2 actually- first one only lasted 1.5 years) and monitor too . . .
it has 512 ram, a 40 gig drive (with 25 gigs left - can't trash anything else for room because what's on it is what i need to burn)
the dvd drive does play. and i can load stuff- just can't get it off. (IT off -- not me!)
and yes i have tried different discs and burning different files.
at first only the maxell cd's would work (no cheepies like i'd use for music that would end up getting trashed in the car) but now they don't even work.
apple says i need to replace the burner, which will cost $385 plus $85 labor.
for that i could be halfway to a bigger powerful newer pc
....but in another four years i bet i'll be right back where i am right now.
i bought the mini because the imac i first bought gave out after, yep, four years.
i guess my only option to save my photos would be to get them on an external hard drive, but then how long will they be safe there before THAT breaks?
    oy
maybe i'll just go back to film. coz once you got them there- you got them for life.
i have perfectly good negs from 20 years ago- the life of my shots from last month are at this point questionable
    thanks for your help.
if you know does anybody make a computer i can expect to last more than four years?

  • DVD burner not burning at 8x -- Firmware download

Yes, i know there's another thread out there like this, but I'm gonna make another one so stupid apple will see how many customers are having this problem.
    I have: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-845E
I've read on the other thread that TDK dvds will burn at 8x, but it doesnt for me, 1x-2x only! I have tried so many brands of dvd, wasting my money, testing to see what kind of dvd would burn at 8x. Why do I have to go to this much trouble?
I'm so tired of waiting 30 min to burn one disc, my friend finishes burning their dvds within 6 mins on their windows laptops. I'm so desperate to get this fixed that I'm thinking of downloading and installing this firmware that MAY fix this problem, however, if it doesnt work, it will kill my optical drive. This site says that this firmware is for the powerbook 12", but installing it will void the warranty. Since apple is CLEARLY NOT solving this problem, should I or should I not take this risk and solve it MYSELF? Has anyone tried to download firmwares for this problem and worked?

You cannot apply the PowerMac SuperDrive Update to the 845. The installer will tell you that this update is not compatible with this model Macintosh (as I understand it).
There is a lot of inconsistency with DVD media. More than I have seen in past decades with any other recordable material or format. Especially frustrating when the variables effect record-ability, working time, play back, can damage drives and leave one with unmountable back-ups.
If your goal is to find a way to burn faster with the hardware you have, you need to use the right media. Acquire some Apple DVD recordable discs, and use them. If you cannot get higher than 2x with this, it may tell you that something is malfunctioning. In which case you should call Apple or if you cannot, then try the forum again. Counter to that, Sony has been consistent for me with higher burn speeds. However I can only claim this with 8x Sony DVD-R which you may no longer find. I see only Sony 16X sold lately and some older drives deliver 2x with this. If you buy the Apple media from an Apple store, perhaps the sales person may have experience to confirm what you should expect with the media he is selling you for your machine. I might call more than one store or time until I got clear experience.
Many people have been frustrated with the lower burn speeds on various DVD media. Especially since the claims fall short of general expectations and the PC notebook burners seem not as finicky (as I understand it). This has been a thorn in the side for some time. It would be nice if the Apple techs involved in this aspect of design would release an explanation for there design decisions, but this is not necessary. The likelihood is that the answer would show some reasonable design decisions no matter if you or I would agree with the decisions. I choose to use Apple because the majority of their design decisions work for me far better than the other choices. For those areas which fall short, I have either lived with them or found a work around.
Computers will be a work in progress for many years to come, perhaps your lifetime. Developing this tool reaches into the end users domain for design help and quality control more so than any other technology I have witnessed. Thus you and I are more than mere consumers as with most consumables, we are for better or worse at one level or another a part of the design team. It is possible that the more mature the world gets about this, the more forth right all the players can be.
    Respectfully,

If they were songs you purchased from itunes, try redownloading them from your purchases...
if that doednt work, make sure the optuon to copy files to itunes media folder is checked in settings, then find and download from the net. and re-add them to your library

  • I can not burn CD's with my Itunes anymore. It tells  me I am missing CD burner and to re download ITunes. I have done that and it stills does not work. Every time I try, Disc Recorder not found keeps coming up! Please someone help me!!!

I can not burn a CD with my itunes anymore. It tells me to re download itunes. I have done that and still have the same problem. When I do try, Missing disc recorder keeps coming up. Please help!!!!

    Hello again, Stew.
Also when I open itunes it gives me a warning and says "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importingand burning cd's and dvds are missing. Please reinstall itunes."
With that one let's first try a reboot and repair.
Reboot the PC (very important), and the do a *repair install* of iTunes.
Go to your "Add or Remove Programs" control panel, select iTunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does iTunes launch without the error message now?
If no luck there, try checking for a device filter conflict in your registry:

So I did and now not only will it not burn anything, it will not import ( it won't recognise any cd that i put into my drive at all ),it won't recognise my ipod and it won't play anything that is in my music library at all. So is there going to be a repair to this from apple at any point? I now have now way of getting anything onto my ipod at all. I have tried to re-install itunes several times since and still get nothing. It just does not do anything at all!!! Come on apple, this is serious, can someone please sort it?

try removing the iTunes, then do a fresh install and this time check the box for installing both Bonjour for Windows and Quick Time.

  • DVD burner not recognized in Leopard by iDVD 7.0.1

Not exactly the same problem I found in my searches, so made a new topic.
Setup: G4 tower, dual Giga Design 1.8 GHZ, 1.5 MB RAM, Pioneer 109 burner.
System Profiler shows ability to burner everything including +r DL.
I had to use a 3rd party hack to get iMovie 7.1 installed. Leopard did not recognize my 1.8 processor as legitimate. It would recognize it if downgraded to 1.7 GHZ, but I chose not to do so. iMovie 7.1 (iLife 08) now launches and works, but I used iMovie HD to make this project.
    1. I have burned other DVDs in Leopard with this DVD burner successfully, including a usable (proven) backup of my Tiger and Leopard DVDs, both DL.
    2. I have over 100 GB space available on my Startup drive as well as 80 GB on another internal drive that is storing the iMovie project. The imovie project in question is 15 GB.
    3. After creating the project in iMovie HD, I exported ("shared") to iDVD 7.0.1, chose a built-in theme and started the burn process. All was going well, so I went to bed. G4 set never to sleep for this project.
    4. Next AM found that "error - .... disk not burned due to burner not recognized (error xxxxx). Didn't get the exact error number, but the iDVD project, when saved to Desktop was only 137 MB. The iMovie HD project is 15 GB, so iDVD should have created a project about 3 + GB.
    5. Have NOT tried Apple Hardware test. Doesn't make sense to do so when the burner works fine in Leopard for other projects.
Is this problem due to iDVD 7.0.1 failing to be compatible with my G4 configuration like iMovie 7.1? Got no warning when installing or launching iDVD from iLife 08.
Any suggestions? I hope I've given enough useful info.
Incidentally, I'm not in a corner, as I copied the iMovie Hd project to a fW drive, and then used iDVD 7.0.1 on my MB Core Duo to render and burn it. Just want to find out what the problem is with my G4.

I'll try that. It may work as it is not iDVD making the determination if the optical drive is "qualified" but DU. As I said in my original post, I have burned DVDs in this internal burner using Leopard and a Finder Burn Folder. It is only iDVD that is between me and success.
I did manage to get the iMovie HD project burned using iDVD 7 on my Intel iMac. I will try editing another iMovie HD project, exporting to iDVD7, and saving as a disk image to a FW drive. I will report back the results, but it may be a day or two before that happens.
I should also probably try the same routine that failed on the chance that it was just a fluke.

  • New DVD burner not working w/iTunes

Okay, I've been working on this and digging through these forums for awhile now. I'm still stumped. So here we go:
I had a new DVD burner installed. I'm using Nero software which works fine for DVD, data, etc. However, iTunes gives me the "disc burner or software not found" message if I try to burn a disc from iTunes.
I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes (yes, latest version) twice now. No go.
In edit>preferences>advanced>burning CD burner: still shows the old CD-RW.
iTunes will recognize and play prerecorded CDs and ask if I want to import them.
In help>diagnostics>CD/DVD drive tests, after putting in a prerecorded CD as requested: Optical drive detected IS the correct device (D: ASUS DRW-1814BL) BUT I get a red dot with "no audio CD found" yet the songs are showing in the device window (in actual iTunes behind the diagnostic window).

Okay... that's as much info as I can think of. Help?

Do you by any chance have Daemon tools? They are know to cause drive recongnition problems with this error number.

  • Windows 7 does not recognize cd/dvd drive. Will not burn a disc

In November 2013, I  bought a refurbished hp Compaq 7900 convertible minitower, Product No. NJ3226UC#ABA, 32-bit.  Windows 7 and WMP 12 were installed by the company that refurbished it.   WMP's  play, rip, burn, sync worked perfectly.
I made the mistake of installing itunes.  I purchased music and made a playlist from my library and itunes.  I tried to burn the playlist with Memorex discs.  WMP burn would kick out the cd at 99% complete.  I tried a different brand of disc and had the same  problem.  The message each time was 'Windows Media Player Encountered an error while burning. Verify that the burner is connected properly and that the disc is clean and not damaged.'  I tried burning a disc using itunes burner but it didn't do anything.
First, I removed every Apple application from my computer.  Then I ran Microsoft CD/DVD trouble shooter.  It didn't correct the problem and gave me the message "cannot locate CD/DVD burner".  I ran trouble shooter in the Control  Panel selected System Security's, Find and Fix. Then Selected  Configure a Device .  Results were 'Hardware may not be detected try to do what you wanted to do again' I tried 2-3 times.  WMP would not burn.  Tried Apple for help and didn't want to reinstall itunes.  I reinstalled Quick Time.   Followed Microsoft's 5-step resolutions:
              1.  Used the troubleshooter in Control Panel.
              2.  Ran CD/DVD Fixit trouble shooter.
              3.  Manually fix corrupted registry.
              4.  Update or reinstall driver.
              5.  Create a sub registry key.
I tried to burn after every step and got the same result.it burned to 99% and kicked out. I used system restore back to May 15, 2014  thaat was before installing iTunes.  No burn.   Checked  driver and response was that 'Driver is working.  No problem was found'.    Today, ran Troubleshooter in ControI Panel and this was the messsage, 'Configuration Settings May Be Incorrect'.  How do I correct  this?  Help!  What next?

    Hi,
You were given some very good advice on your other post.  I ran into a very similar issue when I had installed iTunes and the end result was that I had to do a factory recovery back to a day one condition. Then I had to do a slow software installation process, checking every time I had installed a third party application.  I got tripped up a couple of times but determined that I had to install iTunes before installing other CD/DVD media programs (Roxio,WMP and Cyberlink).
Do a fresh OS installation without the extra third party software and then install Imgburn.  Then use Imgburn to determine the capabilities of your optical drive and match the media specifications those detected by Imgburn to the media type that you are using. Do not use cheap media as the firmware in your optical drive may not support it. I prefer to use Verbatim media. Now see if Imgburn will burn your optical media before attempting to install iTunes and other CD/DVD optical media programs.

  • Drop zone of loop in the film stip template, works in simultor, not burning

Droping a loop from the film into the drop some in a chapter menu and it shows up on the simulator. when I go to burn or build etc there is just white where the loop should be. everything else is workinng fine just but no loop- any ideas out there?
    thnx

OK bigger problem- the all NTSC DVD that used the same template [film strip] also had no problem in the simulator, but I just build/formated it, and the drop zones in the menu buttons whent all white again- same as yesterday. I also checked and they were all software based in the menu prefs. something is wrong here, there is like a "flash frame" of the first frame of the loop, frozen for a split second. and then when the motion starts it all goes to white in zone. I am really flumixed here, did I change something in the targets or is it still burn realted? but why does it work in the simulator, like a charm and then it does not burn????? FRUSTRATED
