Burning not supported????

My friend's brand new (out of the box 2 days) iMac 1.8 G5 w/Combo fails to burn with error code 0x80020025
stating burning not supported.
any advice would be appreciated.
entering this code in the search box reveals no listing
I have also just noticed that there seems not to be any burning app anywhere
oops never mind this last part I guess burning app is part of Disk utility.

I was able to get good support via chat but I did not have enough blank cds to continue the trouble-shooting
In a new user I can burn from the Finder and itunes and dik utility
but from the main user and a second user
there is no burning from the Finder.
However I have verified that
iTunes can burn audio and data and that DiskUtility can burn an image
...just no Finder burning from admin and other accounts
I will try repairing permissions to see if it resolves this problem.
Good Night to anyone out there

  • New Pioneer DVR110D/Burn not supported

Systems Profiler: ATA-Bus 3, Pioneer DVD-RWDVR-110D, Revision 1.11, Drive Type CD-RW/DVD-RW, Disc Burning Not Supported, Removeable Media Yes, Detachable Drive No, BSD Name Disk 1, Protocol ATAPI, Unit Number 0, Socket Type Internal, OS9 Driver No. I have a Mac Power Graphics G4, OS 10.3.9. Disk Utility says DVD-RW is read only. I have installed Patchburn and Dragon Burn. I have reset PRAM and NVRAM. The computer does not show a CD when inserted in the 110D. The DVD disks OWC sent with my order result in "Disc drive not supported" and a long error number. I opened iLife 06 (a DVD) in the computer, copied it to my desktop, but don't dare install it until I can make a DVD copy of my photo library. I can burn nothing. I went back through 3 months of Apple DVD forum discussions, looking for answers. What do I do NOW? Thanks for any suggestions.

After running PatchBurn (for Panther) AppleSystemProfiler should report the drive as disk burning; supported (with a profile path listed). If this is not the the case, you need to run it again. The drive will not work with any Apple software without this profile.
3rd party apps don't need PatchBurn to function. You may in fact have a bad drive. If you cannot do a basic burn from the Finder after PatchBurn using media they supplied, I would ask for a replacement.
Check SysPref/Hardware/CD's&DVD's settings for blank media; if it is set to "IGNORE", the system will do just that.
DVD-/+R/RW can be burned from the Finder DVD-/+R DL can only be used in Tiger's Finder, or with 3rd party apps in Panther. iPhoto 5 does not append library burns like iTunes, so you have to manually choose the albums that fit within the 4.2GB disc capacity. maybe iPhoto 6 fixes this, I don't have it yet myself to check.

  • Replaced bad superdrive with used ifixit model now burning not supported

    Hey,
After using our computer as a dvd player for a year or so the superdrive was shot. I ordered a replacement from ifixit. It plays cds/dvds fine but will not burn. When I press the "burn" button in iTunes my computer says NOT SUPPORTED. ifixit sent me a TEAC DV-W28SLA that was SUPPOSED to work in my iBook.
Does anyone out there know if this drive will even work in this computer and if so, how to make it happen. If this were a Windows machine I would try and find a driver online somewhere. But with OS X, I wouldn't know what to do with the driver if I found one!

(NOTE: the Mac OS X (10.3.9) is just a guess, I have no idea what operating system I have. I can replace a superdrive but software gives me hives!)

  • External Inland DVD Burner not supported for disc burning?

    Hello all,
I have a G4 tower running OS 10.2.8. It is used for a recording studio and is in great working condition. I recently purchased an Inland external usb burner model op-2488x which says is compatible with mac os10.2 or higher. The drive is recognized by the computer and it reads dvds as well as cds but when i insert a blank dvd or cd to burn it will not allow me to open in the finder because it says "drive is not supported" I spoke with the tech support at inland and they told me that since the computer recognizes it that its not an issue with the burner itself and that it is something wrong with my os software. He said that there were no drivers and to check my system settings. Any advise would be a great help, thanks!

Hi msg, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Might try PatchBurn...

  • Mathita UJ-8455 does not support burning?

Hi, just acquired a 15" aluminum powerbook, 1.33GHz. This has osX 10.3.9 on it. In System Profiler, under Hardware>ATA>ATA-3 Bus>Disc Burning there is a entry that reads:
    Disc Burning: Not Supported
I thought all of these had at least a combo drive, the entry just above this says this is a CD-RW/DVD-RW. So why is disc burning not possible? When i put a blank disc in it can give me various ways to come to the same conclusion but usually it just spits them back. Any ideas?

Was the optical drive ever replaced. The UJ-845S is a later model. It is possible that as it has OSX 10.3.9 that there is not a driver in the system installed for the UJ-845. Just a guess.
If this is a after market replacement drive you will find it should not only read RAM but also write to a RAM disk. The Apple version has cripple firmware so the drives will only read RAM disks.
I have an UJ-845S in an external case and it shows "Burn Support Yes (Unsupported)" and I burn just fine.
    You could try Patch Burn.

  • NEC burners: not supported?

    "No supported Disk burners found"
Toast can recognize new external dvd-cd-rw but iTunes refuses to do so!
    anything new on the subject?
this is very frustrating: easy "plug & play" situation.. not any more?
In the system profiler (iMac DV, G3, Graphite) it recognizes the writer but says:
    Model:     _NEC DVD_RW ND-3520A
    Drive Type:     CD-RW/DVD-RW
    Disc Burning:     Not Supported
    Any suggestions anyone?

    Hello Christina,
Have you tried using PatchBurn: http://www.patchburn.de/download.html
Perhaps that'll fix the burning problem in iTunes.

  • HP DVD burner not compatible?

I recently purchased the HP Dvd Writer 635i from someone on ebay who said it is mac compatible. HP however, says it is not mac compatible (as I recently found out). My computer recognizes it as a reader, but not a writable drive!!!
Do you know of any place I could get a 3rd party driver for it, or any other way I can get this drive to work? I do not have a copy of Toast, but it seems that it's a hardware/driver problem more than anything...?
I run OS 10.3.9 on my 400mhz gigabit ethernet G4
    Thanks!

What do you mean by bootable?
It reads cds & DVD + & - R discs well... it just won't write
    Apple System Profiler says this:
    HP DVD Writer 635d:
    Manufacturer: HP
    Model: HP DVD Writer 635d
    Revision: JPS3
    Serial Number: 4265210052
    Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
    Disc Burning: Not Supported
    Removable Media: Yes
    Detachable Drive: No
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 0
    Socket Type: Internal
    I will try Patchburn!!

  • HT5287 If DVD Movies, Audio CD's and even burning CD and DVD's are not supported, what is the point of DVD & CD Sharing then? Wouldn't it just be better to remote in or use a thumb drive if it's only able to be used for data transfer?

If DVD Movies, Audio CD's and even burning CD and DVD's are not supported, what is the point of DVD & CD Sharing then? Wouldn't it just be better to remote in or use a thumb drive if it's only able to be used for data transfer?
Or am I missing the bigger picture?

As long as you have a Superdrive or an external burner/drive, burning, watching, installing, etc. from CD or DVD will work just fine. And so will sharing.

  • External Drive not supported, cant burn CDs, after 10.5.8 update

After having spent just about a month sorting out one massive irritation I now get another one.
My internal drive is not working, (disc stuck inside and I gave up on it almost a year ago. Please don't give any advice on how to get it out, it's a goner OK - not worth the fuss nor the $).
So I bought an external La Cie burner which has worked fine on 10.5.7 for well, almost a year. Since I updated yesterday to 10.5.8 i get a Finder burn message saying the drive is not supported.
What do I do then? I know this must be really easy (I hope). Thanks in advance

Thanks but there is no latest update. The Firmware is vLA00, current.
So what is going on? Why do they do 'up'dates when it's just a downdate fps....
OK rant over. What do I do now? How can I get back to 10.5.7? Should I even'
    Help! Thanx in advance.
Oh, by the way. In System Profiler's > disc burning > burn support column it says it does have support
(Generic Drive Support). So why does it say it doesn't support the drive when i try to use it?

  • Burned dvd gets error "not supported"

a friend gave me a dvd of an event that he recorded on his camcorder. i copied the dvd but the burned copy will not play in idvd 5 but the original will. the copy gives an error of "media not supported" or something like that. isnt it an exact copy?? do i need to try and import the video ts and audio ts files into imovie?

    i copied the dvd
How did you 'copy' the DVD? iDVD isn't for copying DVDs - Disk Utility is for copying DVDs.
Unfortunately, Disk Utility doesn't seem to like to copy DVD+R discs. Toast is your best bet.

  • CSS burn error - device not supported

I am getting a "This device does not support copy generation management..." error while burning a disc that is checked for CSS. Have tried this on my macpro tower, macbook pro, and even my old G4.
By "device" do they mean the physical DVD drive/burner, and if so, anybody know a list of what burners ARE compatible?
need to get some masters out quick....

Thats correct. CSS can only be applied to DVD-VIDEO discs which are pressed at replication plants. Although DVD-R/+R do contain the folders neccesary to playback, they are no the same format as DVD-VIDEO.
Now you can output DDP images which would contain the info required by a replication plant.

  • Burning- "Device Not supported..." Using LaCie & Toast 7

    HEy all,
I am getting the message, "Device Not Supported...." with option to cancel when trying to burn to a LaCie. I'm on a FPimac with DVD Stud 3. I have Toast 7 but trying to burn directly from Pro.
    Any work arounds...
    THanks,
    Al

A snag as I only have Toast Lite - a stripped down version ...and will only let me burn two items or folders ....
There was only 1 Lay file.
It won't let me choose the option you mentioned UPG?
But it did let me choose "DVD-Video" however I got an error after pressing burn - "error -39"
Other than upgrading my Toast Lite to Toast can't I use my Full Toast Version on my MBpro to burn a DVD authored in DVDPro via my network?
    THanks,
    Al

  • DVDPro3- "Device Not Supported for requested burn operation"

    Hello All,
In build and format I get "device not supported for requested burn operation."
    On my iMac G4
    Using DVD Pro 3.0.2
    Mac OSX 10.3.9
And a LaCie Superwriter external burner.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Al

in case anyone else has a similar problem... SOLUTIONS:
formating to hard disc as an .img and then burning with toast works.
Also I found downloading and installing the device profile patches from www.patchburn.de got the burner to be recognised by both DVDSP and Disc Utility. Lot's of people recommend this source.
Another tip was to zap the PRAM but that did nothing. Nor did deleting the preferences file.
No idea why things stopped working in the first place but hope this helps others.

  • My Matshita Optical drive gives me error messages that burning DVD's is NOT supported ?

I record and burn audio weekly. I dried burning DVD projects and i get the repeated error message the the drive does not support DVD burning.
Same result trying to burn from the Finder or Disk Utility. Anyone have a work around?

Do you get this error message with all current burn attempts, or simply with your most recent project?
If not, a PRAM reset has been known to be helpful.
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
