Burning onto DVD+RW or -RW

Hi Everyone, this has probably been addressed already but I'm having trouble finding the answer I need.
I don't seem to be able to burn onto dvd+rw or -rw's and mac help says that OSX 10.3.9 won't do it, should I upgrade to Tiger or is Toast 7 the only options?
Cheers for any help you can give!

Phil:
Toast 6 or 7 Titanium will definitely burn the DVDs to which you refer, assuming, of course, that you have a DVD burner that will.
Good luck.

  • Poor quality (vibration) on video clips when it burns onto DVD

We created 15 mins video on Final Cut Express, saved on Quick Time, and burned onto DVD. Although the video on Quick Time was fine, some of the quality of the video clips on DVD we burned was so poor....It had so much vibration on some of the video clips. We tried on both Best Performance & Best Quality, but they both had poor quality. Do you have any suggestions? Do you think upgrading to I Life 08 will help? Please Help!!!! Thanks!

It had so much vibration on some of the video clips.
Video on a DVD is mpg-2 compressed (which looks at frame to frame differences in compression) and is interlaced.
If you have content with lots of movement - like many hand-held shots - mpg-2 compression and interlacing will act to create lots of 'jumping' or 'vibration'. The only solution is to use a tripod and avoid shaky, hand-held shots.
BTW, for a short clip, 'Best Performance' will give you the best quality you can get.

  • Can my project be burned onto dvd at all?

Hi. I just finished editing a 20 minute video in Adobe Premiere CS5 and would now like to burn this onto dvd using dynamic link. I have tried already but its taking forever to build.
I simply sent my timeline to encore from premiere. Is that what I should be doing?
My project settings for video are: 1920x1080, 25fps, upper, quality 50, and for Audio are: 4800Hz, stereo, 16bit.
My hardware is a pioneer dvd-rw DVRTD11RS. Is this going to be able to burn this disc at all or do I need something else?
Estimated time to encode my project in Media Encoder is 5hrs 33minutes. Is this normal? I know its a very high resolution I am working with, but I would like to maintain the quality. Its important that I do actually.

You may NOT maintain HD quality to go to a DVD... the DVD specification is for SD (Standard Definition) so part of the reason the process is taking so long is that your video is being transcoded from HD down to SD... usually being called down-rezzing (down resolution)
If you want to maintain HD quality, you need a BluRay burner and a BluRay player at your TV
There is a way you may put a SHORT HD video on a DVD, but you would still need a BluRay player at your TV to view the video

  • Can I retrieve photos burned onto DVD (I used iDVD)?

I lost my hard drive last week and am in the process of rebuilding my photo gallery. In Decemeber, I burned a DVD with all of my desired photos from 2012 using iDVD. In addition to the videos and slideshows that I included in the main menu, I made sure to burn the actual photos to the DVD as well. Except now, I don't know how to retrieve the photos from the DVD to re-import into iPhoto. Any suggestions?

  • Elements 9 Crashes when burning onto DVD

I've attempted to burn a project with a newly bought Premiere Elements 9 software.  It goes through rendering all three Disc Menus just fine. Then it crashes my entire computer(multiple times) when getting to approx 4-5% burning process.  This morning I've spent 4 hours uninstalling Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9, rebooting, then re-installing everything.  Same thing happened.
I use to run Photoshop 7, and don't recall this happening.
Please help.  My school project is due on Monday, which includes burning it onto a DVD for a grade!
    Thanks

  • Trouble burning onto DVD

So, I'm done making my DVD. I hit the simulate button and everything plays fine. But when I go to burn it, this comes up: "Building was not successful. See log."
I check the log and it says this, "No video or still assets found in Track: Track 1"
    What does that even mean?

It means exactly what it says.
When you import your assets (the video and audio files) you have to drag them onto the green Track icon in the Graphical View, which is at the top left of your screen.
You then have to either link the track to a menu button, or designate the track as First Play, in which case it will start automatically when inserted into a player.
The DVD Studio Pro Users Manual is a good place to start, it contains tutorials and detailed instructions about the complex process of authoring DVD disks.

  • Wont burn onto DVD!!!NEED HELP

i just spent 20 hours making an imovie, and i finished it all up, but when i put the DVD-R in, it shoots it right back out. Also when I click to burn it says i dont have the supported superdrive. The computer is an IBOOKG4. I went online and checked and it says it has a superdrive(DVD-RW) so i dont see why its not working. Did i get the wrong types of disks (DVD-R) or does anyone else know what is wrong?

    Hi Matt,
Of course you can transfer your file to another computer and because yours is a portable it is so much easier. You need to use a proccess called 'Target Disc Mode'. All you do is, get the two computers together and connect them via a double ended firewire cable. Start your computer while holding down the 'T' key and the Firewire logo will appear on the screen of your iBook. Your iBook's HD will appear on the screen of the other computer. Just open the HD icon of your computer and drag the file out onto the desktop of the second computer. Once the file has finished copying to the other computer just eject the HD icon of your computer and turn your iBook off by holding down the Power button for a few seconds.
This will only work on two Macintosh computers running OSX and it is best to export your project to Quicktime before you try to export it to another computer to avoid problems with different versions of iMovie.

  • Looping when burned onto DVD

I am not sure if this is a Final Cut or iDVD question -
But, I'd like to take my project, convert it, burn it to DVD and have the piece loop when it's over.
(this is going to be used for a trade show video that will be played over and over for hours)
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

This is an iDVD question for sure, but you'll finding looping in the advanced menu I think.

  • No sound when movies are burned onto DVD

I have sound in my movies when I preview the project before I burn it but after it's burned the sound disappears from the movies... The theme music is there but no sound from the movies. Was I suppose to import sound or something? Please help.

Hi, am not an expert like the others are, but I too had the same problem and read somewhere in this forum that this happens (no sound) if you had chapter markers on your iMovie and you placed the chapter mark at a place that doesnt exactly align with where the music for that chapter starts. So what I did was to go back to my iMovie project, i deleted the previous chapter marker, made sure the music for that chapter started exactly where the chapter started, and then added a new chapter marker. then when you open iDVD, it will prompt you if you want to update your "assets", say yes. then go to Movies and drag that same project in.
I hope it works for you. It did for me (but unfortunately I found out there was no music in one of my chapters only after I had already burned 10 copies!!). Hope you are luckier.

  • Some Audio is nothing being burned onto dvd.

please excuse the newbie question BUT....
i have audio on A1 and A2. They are not coming through when i play my dvd on a player hooked up to my television but it does sound when i play it on my G5's DVD PLAYER.
I also have audio on A5 through A10. That audio sounds on both.
does the a1 and A1 attachment on the left have anything to do with this? i have a screen shot i can send via if that will help. i realize my description may be cryptic.

I know you've said you've solved this, but it sounds as if you are using different audio tracks for different audio channels? they are there to allow you to use alternate audio, not split stereo left and right.
All of your audio channels (left and right) go into one of the Audio tracks.

  • Trying to convert video made in iMovie from Mp4 to M4v so I can burn to DVD downloaded Aimersoft video converter but not having any luck

I have downloaded a wedding video done on my iPad and put it in iMovie on my MAC.  Have spent many hours refining it and now want to burn onto DVDs for other family.

Now this video is in Mp4 and I need it in M4V - that is what the burning devise tells me.
I downloaded a video converter, but it didn't seem to make the coversion.

  • I want to burn a dvd which will play as soon as it is in the dvd player.

    Hi people,
I'm very new to FCP and the world of video and would be very grateful for some help.
I have edited a 6min video in FCP and now want to export it ready to burn onto dvd.
Is the best way to do this through compressor? and if so what settings is good?
I also understand that I have to use DVD SP to burn the dvd right? I don't want any fancy menu pages, just a straight dvd that will play as soon as it hits the dvd player.
Silly question but how can this be done?
Sorry to sound stupid but we all have to start somewhere right?

  • Cannot burn NTSC DVD after burning PAL DVD

Using Adobe Premiere Elements vers.10, I created a video which I need to burn onto DVDs, in PAL format for European users and NTSC for North American recipients.  I successfully burned (to folder) in NTSC, and then in PAL.  Produced two sample DVDs from those two folders and reviewed them.  This highlighted the need for a few corrections to the project.  I carried these out, burned the revised film to folder in PAL format, and then wanted to do the same in NTSC format.  The computer appears to work on the task, but produces no folder and no files.  I am no longer able to procude a DVD in NTSC format, either by burning to a folder or burning directly on a DVD.  What is the cause of this problem ?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide with this issue.
    Paul

    Paul,
I do not recall any issues, where the program gets hung up, though as a precaution, maybe clear the Media Cache in the Scratch Disks. I know that Encore (sort of the authoring "big-brother" to the authoring function in PrE) can get confused, when it has some older Media Cache files. It assumes that things have already been done, when it needs to "start over."
Also, I would create a new, empty folder, with a unique name, and direct the Burn to Disc to THAT folder. Since all that one gets is the VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS (empty), and then another folder, whose name I cannot recall (Encore does not write anything but the VIDEO_TS folder and IFO, BUP and VOB files), it's easy to confuse the output. Just thinking here.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Burn basic DVD

    Hi,
I have created a very basic DVD in I movie which I want to burn onto DVD with no menus etc. Just so it will play automatically in a domestic DVD player. I can't seem to work out to mover from importing from i movie to DVD and then burning without adding menus etc. Can anyone help please??
    Thanks

    heath,
DVDs need some sort of menu (but you don't have to see it). Using iDVD 6, you can drop your movie in the autostart well (box furthest to the Left in the map view) and set the movie to loop. The movie will continue to loop and you won't see a menu.
What I prefer to do is create a DVD that will autoplay and then bring up a black menu that simply says 'Replay Movie'. See http://homepage.mac.com/profpixel/AutostartDVD/autostart.htm for my method.
