Burning photos in iphoto as a folder storage.

I'm using the very latest version of IMac. Computer is new as of April this year. I love taking pictures & at present have them stored in my iphoto library. This is different from what I'm used to as I had an old PC & everything was in folders. They could be burnt very easily. I have not tried to burn from iphoto but see it can be done. For my finished product, I'd like to see a DVD or cd that has all my files there & each one labeled for easy finding when I need to come back to it. How can I do this? I want more than one file on the cd/DVD as it will be like a storage disc, so that I can delete some of the older stuff from the program. The program itself is getting very full & pictures are added & separated according to date added. I just need to choose the multiple ones to burn & go from there. Can I do this?

A CD or DVD is an optical disk.
What will burn to disk is what you export. Export each Event as a folder and you'll get the Folders on the disk. Export all at one go and that's what you'll get.
Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
An Alternative backup method
Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
I'm Serious about Back Ups.
You'll note the complete absence of optical disks in this scheme.
My Library lives on my iMac. It’s Backed up to  two external hard disks every day. These disks are permanently attached to the iMac. These back ups run automatically. One is done by Time Machine, one is a bootable back up done by SuperDuper
It’s also backed up to a portable hard disk when ever new photos are added. This hard disk lives in my car. For security, this disk is password protected.
I have a second off-site back up at a relative’s house across town. That’s updated every 3 or 4 months.
My Photos are backed up online. There are many options: Flickr, Picasa, SmugMug etc. However, check the terms of your account carefully. While most sites have free uploading, you will often find that these uploads are limited in terms of the file size or the bandwidth you can use per month. For access that allows you to upload full size pics with no restrictions you may need to pay.
Every couple of months I test the back ups to make sure they are working correctly. It’s very easy to mis-configure a back up application, and the only way to protect against that is to do a trial restore.

  • Since loading Lion I can no longer burn photos form iPhoto on a dvd for archive purposes

Since loading Lion on my MacBook Pro, I can no longer burn photos form iphoto for archarving purposes.  I used to load the dvd and it would showup on the screen then drag highlighted photos onto the dvd.  Now, dvd only shows up sometimes and when it does, it tells me the new disk is full.  How can such an easy task become obsolete with this update.   I have also tried using idvd for archiving purposes but this process will only allow viewing.  I want to be able to reload photos back onto the computer at a later date.

I habe the same problem and cant find a helpful post on the web!
How can i get it back to work???

  • How to put/burn photos in iPhoto on a disc ?

I have a 13 inch MacBook Pro laptop.
Please, would some tell me how to burn my photos in iPhoto onto a disc? I would like to do the same with photos on Facebook, if possible.
Sorry to be critical but I really hate Apple because I cannot "figure out" how to do what shoud be simple tasks. Not user friendly

What exactly do you want to burn?
If you use the Share -> Burn command it will make an iPhoto Library on the disk. This is useful only if you want to use the disk with iPhoto.
If you want to give a copy of the photos to a friend or bring them to a printer etc; then export them from iPhoto (File -> Export) to a folder on the desktop and burn that with the Finder.
As the photos on Facebook are actually on Facebook and not on your mac, you'll need to download them first.

  • Why can't I drag a photo from iPhoto to a folder?

You guys - I used to be able to drag photos from iPhoto to pretty much wherever I wanted.  I'm currently trying to drag them to a folder, but it doesn't work.
I tried to email them to myself, THEN drag them into said folder, still doesn't work.
I had to open each of them in Preview, then save them as new files to the folder.
WHAT!?  That's insane.  Am I missing something or have all of the updates changed things so drastically!?
All of my business is up to date.  If this is what it's like updated, that is a bummer.

This seems to be a desktop issue rather than an iPhoto one, as you can't drag from Mail either.
So I'd start by repairing permissions.
Can you export to the desktop?

You may be better off cross-posting in one of the iPhoto Forums where the iPhoto users hang out.

  • When I upload any photos from iphoto or a folder it overwrites all the existing photos. is there a way to add to the existing library without deleting what's already in the library?

When I upload photos from iphoto or any other folder it overwrites all the existing photos in my ipad. is there a way to add to the existing library without deleting what's already in the library?

No, apart from using the emailing them, to yourself or using a third-party app such as Simple Transfer (in which case the photos will only go into the Saved Photos/Camera Roll album) or the camera connection kit (Imported album). You need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad in one go, as only the contents of the most recent sync remains on the iPad - not including photos in a sync is how you delete them from the iPad

  • Problems burning photos from iPhoto 5 to CD

I'm using iPhoto 5 on an Intel based G5 Mac running OS X 10.4.10 with 1.5Gb RAM. The photo library contains about 4,000+ photos. If I pick a group of them (say about 2 or 3 dozen) then drag and drop them onto the blank CD icon I get the following message: "The selected items cannot all be put into the same location, because at least one of them named 1234.jpg is busy".
This happens even if I attempt to copy them to a folder. I've tried deleting the offending jpg, but I just get the same message again for a different photo.
If anyone has a workaround or knows a solution, your help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

This happens if two of the files you're exporting have the same filename. So, use the 'Share -> Export' command and the resulting dialogue gives you various options including ways to rename the files.

  • Is it possible to rescue photos in iPhoto when the remote storage device is no longer available?

I have about 1500 photos in my iPhoto '09 v8.1.2 (424) library.  I had "Copy items to iPhoto library" unticked, as the photos were all stored on a Western Digital "MyBook" network drive.  However, the drive exploded in a way that gave me no chance of data recovery.
Now, every time I open iPhoto, I am shown thumbnails of all the photos & I can explore the events: -
I can even enlarge them, but when I do, iPhoto tells me they are unavailable: -
Is there a way I can use the iPhoto library data to restore the photos?  I'm not looking for originals or original quality or size, but I do want iPhoto to stop moaning and to be able to know that my library is intact and contains real items, rather than ghosts of the originals.
BTW, I now have a http://bit.ly/qnap_ts-439-pro-ii running RAID 6, so future data is better protected against drive failure.
    Cheers,
    ChrisP

    Chris
The best you can do is recover the thumbnails from this library, create a new one and start over.
    To recover the thumbnails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called Data. The Thumbs are inside. Drag it to the desktop. You can now dump that library, it's useless.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and import those thumbs.
As a note: Running iPhoto as a Referenced Library is not recommended, especially with the files on one volume and the Library on another. For more on the pitfalls of that

Are you able to burn a disk of any kind from the Finder? Try this: OS X Mountain Lion: Use Apple Hardware Test..
It would help if we knew what version of system and iPhoto you're using?

  • I am having problems backing up my photos in iPhoto and dragging them to desktop folder to burn out of iPhoto!

I have been having issues with backing up photos in iPhoto for  awhile. I used to burn them right out of iPhoto by selecting the folder, going to Share and then Burn. I have been getting an error message that says "Burn failed because there was an error producing data for the burn". So I started to drag the photos from iPhoto to a folder on the desktop, then burn the folder to a disc. This worked for awhile. Recently iPhoto will not allow me to drag photos to a desktop folder. I can select them in iPhoto, click on them and it shows the plus sign and number of photos, but when I drop them it does nothing. I can do it one at a time for about 4 photos, then it stops again. I also tried to export the photos into a folder on the desktop and it says Unable to create /Users/... I do back up photos to a TimeCapsule as well, but like to have a DVD in a fireproof safe too. I also ran disk utility repair disk permissions. I have an account for my wife as well and both iphotos share the same iphoto library but ths has never been a problem until recently. She also uses aperature, but pulls the photos from iphoto to edit them. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • How do you burn photos to CDR from Iphoto. 9.5.1

How do you burn photos in Iphoto 9.
You used to do it from Share and now I can't find the instruction.

That feature has been discontinued.  One can no longer burn a "mini" library from iPhoto to disk.
To burn photos to disk with iPhoto 9 and later the photos must be exported to a folder on the Desktop and that folder burned to disk via the Finder.

  • I deleted a photos from iphoto, later I found them in imoive, how do I move the photos back to iphoto?

I deleted a photos from iphoto, later I found them in imoive, how do I move the photos back to iphoto?

    Hi Canadian Beaver Tail!
You may want to try restoring the photo in iPhoto, using the instructions suggested in the following article:
iPhoto '11: Delete or restore a photo
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2398
    To restore a deleted photo:
If you haven’t yet emptied the iPhoto Trash, do the following:
Select Trash in the Source list.
Select the photo you want to restore.
Choose Photos > “Restore to Photo Library.”You can also drag the item out of the Trash into an empty part of the Source list.
If you use Time Machine to back up your computer, you can recover a photo, an Event, a folder, an album, a project (such as a book, card, or calendar), or a slideshow even if you deleted it from the library and emptied it from the Trash. To restore photos, quit iPhoto, open the folder containing your iPhoto library, and then open Time Machine. To open Time Machine, click its icon in the Dock, or click the Time Machine icon in the menu bar and choose Enter Time Machine. For more information on using Time Machine, see the topics in Help Center. In the Finder, choose Help > Help Center, and then search for “Time Machine.”
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,
    Braden
