Burning photos in separate folders to DVD from iPhoto/F

Hi,
I have sorted my photos into various folders within an album on iPhoto and would like to burn these onto one DVD in their separate folders (as opposed to lumping them all onto one DVD in one big folder).
Unfortunately, when I insert a blank DVD and choose Open Finder, it no longer shows the photos in their separate folders, they are all bunched together. This would not be a problem if my SuperDrive (and Windows PC) didn't take a dogs age to preview the photos once they are burnt onto DVD but it does, therefore, I like to break them up into folders of around 100 photos each in order for the photo previews to load reasonably quickly.
Does anyone know how to keep the photos in their separate folders and burn them onto a DVD keeping them in their separate folders please?
Many thanks.

Let's make sure we have the same terminology here. In the left hand pane of iPhoto we have folders and albums.  Folders can hold albums.  So are you referring to albums within a folder?
If so you will have to export each album's photos to a folder on the Desktop via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  menu option. Once all of the albums have been exported to its own folder drag them onto a blank DVD disc in the optical drive and burn.

When you export the videos out of iPhoto be sure to select Kind = Original.  Otherwise you'll just get an image file of the first frame of the video.

Because you did it wrong? It's hard to know unless you tell us what you did.
    What should work:
Select the photos you want to share
File -> Export and export them to a folder on the desktop. Burn that to the disk with the Finder.

    Hi,
My photo stream used to work fine.  But after removing all the photos to separate folders in my computer, my new photos are no longer streaming to my PC.  They appear in the photo stream on my other devices - iPhone5 and iPad Mini.  It's just my PC that's missing the photos.
When I open the iCloud control panel, I cannot turn on the photos.  That option is ghosted.  I'm running on Windows 7 with iCloud 3.0.  Any ideas on how I can fix this?  All help is appreciated!  Thanks!

I am trying to burn DVDs from iPhoto slideshows.  My pictures number in the hundreds and we know that iPhoto captures 99 and then "starts over".  This plays fine from the Mac Book but glitches arise on the DVD when playing it on a DVD player.  Any suggestions on how to overcome the 99 "Chapter limitation" that IPhoto has?  Has anyone heard or tried an app called Vilisoft?  I read good things but I am not sure if it will do what I want.
    Jim

Then use multipel 99 picture slideshows.
You can have up to 8 or 9 slideshows per menu.  If you add a sub menu reduce that by 1 and add 8 more to the sub menu.  The top menu can have links to up to 8 or so submenus (depends on the theme) and each submenu can have up to 8 or so slideshows.
However, converting a very large slideshow to a QT movie as Terence suggested does not envoke the 99 slide limit in iDVD.  It just becomes a single video/movie file.  So you should not have a problem with exporting at the large size, 720 x 540,
and dragging the resulting file into the iDVD menu being sure to avoid any drop zones.

  • Playback movie burned to DVD from iPhoto

When I burn a movie to a DVD from iPhoto I get an error message on playback that says "the movie contains an invalid data reference and will not playback". Any suggestions?

Also, the movies don't appear on the DVD when I play it in the DVD/Blue Ray in the other room.
You can't burn a DVD like that with iPhoto. You need an authoring application like iDVD or Toast to correctly format the disk.

  • Burned DVD from iphoto but pics are black

I burned a DVD from iphoto that contained a large file of pictures. Upon opening the disk I could see the pictures. However, after scrolling through a few of them, my iphoto became extremely slow and then the pictures would not come back. Instead of seeing a picture I see a black box with a dotted frame where the picture should be.
The DVD worked when I opened APSE and I edited my pictures that way.
But why is my iphoto not cooperating with a disc that was created with iphoto?
Is it because I created the disc using an older version of iphoto?

Has something to do with me renaming the rolls of film.

If I want to use photos as wallpaper on the phone do they have to be resized or can I just load them?

With your iphone plugged into itunes go to the tables for music, photos, etc and set to sync with the album, playlist you want.
Sounds like you might need to read the owners manual:

When you email from iPhoto, you have a choice as to the size of the picture - choose medium and your friends will be able to see them.  By the way, do your friends click on the photo attachment  in the mail to open it?

Yes. You want to add photos from a folder on the desktop to an existing iWeb album page? Just bring up the page in iWeb and drag the photo into the group of thumbnails that are displayed on the page and move it to where you want it locate

  • HT201788 How do I burn photos onto a DVD from iPhoto?

I am trying to burn photos/folders from iPhoto onto a DVD/CD but when disc utility opens I am unable to burn any of the items or folders onto the disc.  I thought that my optical drive was perhaps malfunctioning so I purchased a SuperDrive.  However, I am running into the same problem. The folders or pictures within, that I want to burn remain inactive.  How can I burn these pictures onto DVD/CD?

What kind of DVD disk do you want to create?  A data disk that just contains the image files or a video DVD disc that can be played on a DVD player on a TV set.  They are two entirely different types of disks and require different workflows.
If you're running Yosemite then you have iPhoto 9.6 or 9.6.1.
    For a data disk:
1 - select the photos to be burned to disk and export to a folder on the Desktop File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu.  Set the Kind = what you want, the original file or the current, edited version.
2 - insert a blank DVD in the optical drive.
3 - drag the folder of photos onto the DVD disk's icon.
3 - drag the DVD disk icon to the Trash Bin in the Dock which turns into the Burn function:
    For a video DVD disk:
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • Burning a DVD from iPhoto to save photos

Someone has posted this method of burning photos which I have found VERY VERY useful
"If you burn a disk using the Share -> Burn command you will recreate your Library on the disk.
If you then delete the pics from iphoto it will not keep the thumbnails, but you will be able to view the pics in iPhoto if you insert the disk."
I have found that I can select several albums to burn. However, my question is - has anyone found any problems with losing pics when they burn a DVD & then delete the photos from iPhoto. OR any other problems? I DON'T want to lose precious photos!! When I inquired about purchasing PSE 6.0 they told me that it was much more reliable than iPhoto in not losing pics ?????
    Looking forward to hearing back.

This is an amusing piece of twaddle:
When I inquired about purchasing PSE 6.0 they told me that it was much more reliable than iPhoto in not losing pics ?????
PSE is a +photo editor+. It does not organise, store or manage pics. It’s like saying that Word will mind your files better than the Finder.
IF you burn the files to the DVD then they are on the DVD, that’s it. If you then remove them from iPhoto they are still on the DVD. Just test the DVD to be sure.
Better ways of saving space: move your Library to a large, inexpensive external disk.

  • How do I burn a DVD from iPhoto slideshow?

Hi all. I am using iPhoto '11 (ver 9.4.2) on my MacBook Pro. I also have iMovie 11 on my Mac. How can I create a DVD that can be played in a DVD player, for ultimate use at an upcoming party (to be played in DVD player and shown on a projector screen)? I had read somewhere abotu clicking the "Share" text and then select iDVD, but that is no longer an option in this iPhoto. Instead, it offers to "Burn" but then a pop-up dialog box clearly states that the DVD would be for iPhoto viewing only.... but I know there has to be another way. Help1?
A little more specs: Although I have several thousand photos on my HDD, I created a new Album of 200 photos for this particular slidehow. I added a playlist and can press "Play Slideshow" within iPhoto. It plays and looks beautifully (can;t get enough of Ken Burns effect!). But, of course, I need to get this onto a DVD? Any thoughts?
So, that is the first question.
Relatedly, if I COULD, I would like to insert a few video (small 10 second snippets) into the slideshow, and mute the music during those segments - is that something I shoudl do in iMovie.... and then how to export to DVD?
    Thanks.
    Ezra

  • Burning to DVD from iPhoto - Help!

    Hello All
I am trying to burn all our photos from iPhoto to DVD. There is 7.3gb of data, and I am trying to burn to a DL DVD with a capacity of 8.5gb.
The steps I take to do are Share -> Burn. However, when I try this, the bottom of the screen tells me that the disc, with a capacity of 9.3gb, is full. Aside from the weird discrepancy on capacity, this doesn't make any sense, as this is a new, blank DVD fresh out of the packaging/
Strangley, when I go to eject the DVD, it is not on the desktop, and does not appear in Disk Utility, although pressing the eject button does work.
I am using a workaround, having exported the photos to a bun folder and then burning a DVD from there - this is progress and, fingers crossed, seems to be working...
    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    MC

    There is 7.3gb of data,
Where are you getting this report?
The iPhoto Window reports the size of the resulting folder if you exported the current version of everything in the Library.
The actual iPhoto Library is much larger. It contains thumbnails, originals, database and cache files.
