Burning photos to DVD & organising them

I have for the first time burned some photos to a DVD but found on the DVD that they were organised alphabetically by the title I had given each photo rather than chronological in the order I took them. This doesn't makes sense when trying to show them to friends. How can I reorder them into chronological order?
Also, how can I burn the photos so they can display on a PC (rather than Mac) as a slide show rather than individual jpeg files?
Appreciate any advice out there

Sue:
I don't think you want to use a DVD-RW disk for this purpose. It's much slower burning, playing and not as reliable as a regular DVD-R disk. They are also more expensive.
QT movies will be much larger that just the size of the photos in it. That's normal. To get multiple tracks to be used in the QT movie create a playlist in iPhoto with the tracks you want to use. In iPhoto select just the playlist and not any of the tracks inside of it. That will include all of the tracks for playing and exporting.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

So if Aperture does not provide the ability to burn photos to dvd/cd how do you go about doing that?

Simply mount a disc in the drive, then in Aperture Export your versions to that location.  Later in the Finder, Burn.  No need for special function.

  • How do you burn photos to DVD from iPhoto?

How do you burn DVDs of photos in iPhoto?

    Depends.
Want to just back up/share the photos? Export them to a Folder on the desktop and then burn that with the Finder. Result: A DIsk with a folder(s) of images.
Want to back up the Library - all the images, versions, database file and so on? Share -> Burn. Remember a disk created in this way will not make any sense execpt to iPhoto.
Want to burn to a DVD that you can view on a domestic DVD player? Make a slideshow. Export that. Then use  a DVD authouring programme to create that disk. iDVD is no longer developed by Apple. You may be able to get it on an old iLIfe install disk. There are other options:
    Burn: http://macupdate.com/app/mac/21992/burn
    Toast: http://macupdate.com/app/mac/6351/toast-titanium
But there are lots of others too. Search on the App Store or MacUpdate

  • Burning photos onto DVD

I have a folder on my desktop with 96 photos that I want to burn onto a dvd. I keep trying to burn it and it stops with the error code 0X8002006D. Maybe there are too many photos? Each photo is about 2.8MB in size. If that is too big, how do I make them smaller?

Looks like that error is associated with bad or incompatible media. See this thread:

  • Can't burn photos to DVD+RW on my hp Pavilion 6000 ( drive is hp DVD A DH16A BLH )

I cant burn photos to a DVD+RW. I'm using Verbatim DVD+RW discs. When I try to burn the photos I get the message "please insert a writable/recordable  disc ". I can burn the pics onto a CD but I want to make DVD's too !
Please help ! I'm not that technically minded so please bear that in mind when replying

Can you play DVD movies on the drive? I ask because it is not uncommon for one feature on multifunction drives (like a CD-DVD drive) to stop functioning. There are actually multiple lasers in there for the separate functions. In other words the CD part can work fine but the DVD part go bad.
Is this an external DVD burner or the one built into the laptop?

how can I burn Photo to a dvd

    Hi Martha1963,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below will show you how to burn your data to a DVD using the Finder application.

Burning CDs and DVDs using the Finder in Mac OS X
Use the Finder in Mac OS X if you want to burn specific files to a disc.
Note: If you want to back up your entire system, you should use Time Machine (with a hard disk). Burning discs is a good choice for copying select files to a disc, rather than your entire system.
In Mac OS X, you can either:
Insert a blank disc, drag files you want to burn to the disc, then click Burn or choose Burn from the File menu. See this article for more information.
    or
You can create a Burn Folder named with what you want your disc's name to be, fill it with content you want to burn to disc, click Burn when ready, and insert a disc when prompted. To create a Burn Folder, in the Finder choose New Burn Folder from the File menu.
    Cheers,

  • Burning photos to DVD/CD

I'm trying to burn photos from Lightroom 5, but I can only get one photos on the CD/DVD before it will not allow me to add more.  Is there an app the will work or do I need one?

Not clear how this involves iPhoto for the mac - I think your question probably belongs in a Adobe Light Room forum
In iPhoto it is easy - select the photos in iPoto and export to a desktop folder and using the finder burn that folder to disk

  • Burning photos onto dvd, loses the original date and time of photo

I'm trying to burn some photos onto dvd, but it marks all the files 'created date' and 'modified date' as today, rather than keeping the original date and time that the picture was taken. Is there a way around this?

  • After burning photos to DVD Keywords are lost or mixed up

    Hello,
I burned many a photo to DVD last night and today I checked the DVD only to find most of the Keywords I assigned were now non existent except for a large group that should have read "Self Portraits" but now reads "House".
are my keywords gone and scrambled?

    Hi Warriorant,
this is a current bug. Hopefully iPhoto 6 will fix this problem.
Are the keywords in the library that iPhoto opens still correct?

  • Tried burning photos to DVD from iphoto - error message

Burned several hundred photos without any issues, but now have tried unsuccessfully to do the last 300 photos - each time I enter a disc and hit burn, I get an error message: "The burn to the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-898 drive failed. The disc drive didn’t respond properly and can’t recover or retry". Tried burning them in smaller groups of albums and having no luck. Also tried rebooting.
    Using iPhoto 8.1.2.
    Any suggestions?

I ran into this exact issue, trying to archive some iPhone videos from my iPhoto Library. Even though iPhoto tells you how much space you have left on the disc, it must not count any additional data it has to burn onto that disc. I finally got my disc to burn by removing videos, freeing up around 500 MB from the DVD.
This is very frustrating behavior not only because the error message says nothing about disc space, but also because iPhoto gives you a user interface for keeping an eye on how much space is left on your disc but it doesn't tell you the whole story.

  • Burning photos to DVD

Help! Trying to burn 664 photos from iPhoto 6 to a DVD 2x ASDA disc I keep getting the message
'+The burn to the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 drive failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error.+'
Does anyone know what might be the problem?
    Elizabeth

    Hi Elizabeth
Try a different brand of DVD like Memorex, Verbatim, Maxell or JVC in a 3 or 5 pack. Some folks will swear off using Memorex, but the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 in my Early Core Duo never has had a problem with them?

  • Burned photos to dvd - they printed fuzzy

I have many photos on my mac that I need to print and back up. I have my library backed up on an external hard drive but I would feel better to have them on cd's as well. I burned a dvd of some photos ( I didn't have a cd) . I took it to the store to print. The photos came out a little blurry. I printed some of the same ones directly off the mac and they came out sharp. What did I do wrong?
Any suggestions for backing up my photos in addition to the external hard drive?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Did you use the Share -> Burn command to make this disk? If so, what happens is that a mini iPhoto Library is created on the Disk - database files, originals, modified versions and thumbnails. When you bring it to the store to be printed they inevitably print the thumbnails and then you get the poor quality images.
To create a disk that even a store can read for printing: Export the pics to a Folder on the Desktop (File -> Export) and burn that with the Finder. This will give you a folder with full quality images.

  • Best way to burn photos on DVD as data files?

Ok - I may be losing it, but I'm confused as to best way to burn a DVD of photo files that I just want to be photo files - not played in a slideshow, etc. Basically, I scanned 50+ photos and used them in a montage I created in Photo To Movie. But, I want to give the client two discs - one that is the TV-ready playable DVD - did that one already. Second is a DVD (or CD?) that they can put in their computer and just get the files off if they ever want to use them (since I'm charging them for scanning and retouching the vintage photos).
Can someone please let me know how to do it? All told it's about 63 photos and 80 MB according to iPhoto Album. So, do I use DVD or CD or does it matter? How do I transfer (drag and drop)? and Burn?
    Thanks -
    Alexa

    Alexa:
To burn a data disk of the photos you used in the slideshow you need to export them to a folder on the Desktop via the File->Export->File Export menu option. Select the appropriate options for exporting and export.
Then drag that folder onto a mounted blank disc and burn via the Finder. That will give you a cross platform disk of just the image files.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Unable to burn movie to DVD without theme

I created a movie on iMovie and would like to create a DVD without any of the themes offered in iDVD. Don't know or unable to do so.
I finally settled on a theme with one drop zone. However, the trimmed clips I created in iMovie when dropped to the drop zone are untrimmed. I deleted the trimmed sections from the iMovie trash. Still it insists on transfering the whole silly clip. Don't have Quicktime Pro so can't do editing there. Any suggestions before I go crazy over this 4 minute movie!
    Max

If you have a copy of Toast 7 you can do it. Create your DVD in iDVD (or in Toast if you like) and save it as a disc image. Open the disc image then select the option in Toast to convert a DVD from a VIDEO_TS folder. You'll then find there's an option to burn the main feature only. Select that and burn a DVD. Worked fine the last time I tried it - when you put the DVD in your DVD player it'll automatically play the movie and stop when it gets to the end which, I think, is what you want to do. The only two downers are that (a) it's a two stage process and (b) you need to buy a copy of Toast. It's really silly that iDVD won't let you do this but then quite a lot about iDVD is silly anyway.

  • Burn photos to dvd

Can I burn a few "events" from iPhoto to a DVD (playable in a DVD player), so that they show up as a page of thumbnails to select from, so that the viewer can select the ones they want, and not have to sit through a whole slideshow when they want to see a particular picture.
iDVD seems to only want to make slideshows.
    Thanks!

It also happened with iTunes. I don't normally burn music to a DVD as I use a CD. I was testing to see if the problem was exclusive to iPhoto. It is not. I have also run Disk Utility and done a restart.
    Thanks for your help,
    Carola
