Burning Podcast Onto CD-RW **And** Editing Podcast Into Sections?

I use iTunes to burn podcasts onto CD-RW's. I had a iPod Mini, but I dropped it and now it's toast. Currently, the CD-RWs work fine. {I'm too poor to buy another iPod.}
iTunes automatically burns a podcast onto TWO CDs if the podcast is too long to fit on one CD. That is fine. What I want iTunes to do is separate the podcast on EACH CD into 'sections' so I do not have to FAST-FORWARD through the whole thing to get to the last 5 minutes of each podcast. Sort of like making one podcast into several. I cannot find anything in my iTunes 'Help' to do this.
I tried searching the discussion database here for this info, but I didn't see anything like this listed.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!
-Allan, aka RocKiteman

Welcome to AD!
In my opinion, iTunes is the worst burning program I've ever had the displeasure to use. My advice is to use some other burning program. Most spoken podcasts are MP3s, so you have many options.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion or later:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion even though that has it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • I am trying to burn photos onto a dvd and cd but it keeps saying disc burn error. what do i do? i have already went through 5 cps and 1 dvd.

I have been trying to get these pictures off of my computer so i want to burn them but everytime i try it says disc error. i have tried several different cds. it will say finishing burn but then eject it and says burn disc error.... please help

How are you burning the photos to the disc?  Via the Share ➙ Burn menu or buy exporting the photos to a folder on the Desktop and then burning that folder to disc?
The former method creates a mini library on the disk that can only be read and use by a Mac with iPhoto.  The latter method saves just the photos to disc which can be used by any computer.
What system and iPhoto version are you using?  How much free space do you have on your MacBook Pro?
If you're using the Share ➙ Burn method can you burn a disc from the Finder?
Describe in detail what you're trying so we have a better understanding and can better offer a solution.

I have taken a 55 minute video with my ipad camera and now want to burn it to a dvd. I've managed to transfer it to my pc but cant seem to get it into a format to burn it to a dvd. Help?

  • How to copy DNG images from MacBook Pro onto a flashdrive and paste them into my pictures on my iMac

When I tried to do this, I couldn't get the image on the flashdrive to open in photoshop. Each time I tried I got a message that said photoshop had crashed. When the flashdrive is plugged into the MacBook the image files look like images. When the flashdrive is plugged into my new iMac (Maverick) the image files just show the DNG icon. Both computers have the Creative Cloud.

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
So, you can see your whole iTunes folder on the memory stick after copying from the PC?

  • Burning photos onto a dvd

I am trying to burn photos onto a DVD and I always get an error that I need to remove the number of photos selected becayse the file is too big. Is there anyway to see how much space I have as I am adding images? thanks

I find the "burn folder" very useful. While in the fFinder, click the file menu:
and select "New Burn Folder." Like Klaus says, it gives you a size as you populate it. I like these because I can have a folder ready to burn when someone asks for a CD or DVD of images, or when I need to make multiple copies.
A burn folder is easy to spot because it gets a different icon (this is from OS 10.6.8):
and you can rename it anyway  your like (ex., "2012 Family Reunion")

  • Failing to burn photos onto a disc

When I try to burn photos onto a USB SuperDrive it fails. It worked before, but now it says "The burn to the SuperDrive drive failed. The disc drive didn't respond properly and cannot recover or retry." Is there anything I can do?

Hi Old Toad, thanks for the reply. I've been busy the last couple of days and haven't been able to get back onto the forum until now. I'm trying to burn from iPhoto - I'm not sure how to from Finder and can't seem to find a path for that. If that works then that would save me a bit of hassle to be honest. The weird thing is that while trying to burn photos onto a disc (and wasting about 14 of them in the process) I tested it on an iTunes playlist and that worked without a hitch. I'll explore Finder, but if you could give me a few pointers it would be appreciated.
I'm using Mountain Lion on a MacBook Air that is coming up for a year old, which was bought at the same time as the SuperDrive.

  • How do I import (and edit) a QT file from a DVD?

Have been sent some footage on a DVD which I believe is in Quicktime, and I need to import it into iMovie(3.0.3) and edit it: How do i do this? the files are all marked .VOB, .IFO and .BUP - I can't actually open them and play them on the Quicktime7 player, but on the DVD menu the file is named as "[scenes] in Quicktime"
I am not particularly adept technically and can't follow many of the posts on this topic, so i don't know if this has already been answered! (sorry...)
I can play the DVD using my DVD player, although there are no chapters, etc. I just need to extract one scene and edit it into another film project (urgently).
    Help!
    Jonno Roberts

Viewing DVD (MPEG-2 format) files using QuickTime requires the purchase of the MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 from Apple Store).
After you install the MPEG-2 Playback Component I would also use MPEG Streamclip 1.5.1 (free download) to "export" (just the chapter you need) to DV Stream.
This new .dv file can be edited and exported using iMovie or added to other iMovie Projects.
    Hope this helps.

  • I am making a reel. How do I take clips from past DVDs Ive made and place them into Final Cut 4.0?

    Anyone answering,
I am making a reel to show businesses what kind of work I can do. I am trying to take clips from past projects I have finished and place those clips in FCXpress 4.0. How do I go about doing this? Any advice on how I can do this will be a tremendous help for me.
    Thank you for your time!!

    Hi Jeremy,
You will have to convert the DVD video to QuickTime using either Apple DV or Apple Intermediate Codec.
Most people in this forum seem to use MPEG Streamclip to do this.  I have used it a lot it and it works great.
Note that in addition to MPEG Streamclip (which is free), you will need the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component if you do not already have it on your Mac.  It is available from the Apple Online Store for $19.  This needs to be on your Mac in order for MPEG Streamclip to be able to convert the MPEG2 video that is on your DVDs.
If it were me, and the video is standard 4:3 aspect ratio, I would probably convert it to QuickTime/DV; if widescreen 16:9  then I would probably convert it to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec instead.
After converting the video, select  an appropriate FCE Easy Setup to match how you converted the video in MPEG Streamclip.  Then import the converted file(s) and edit them into a new sequence.

  • I have problems with my films that become slightly jerky after I have imported and edited them in iMovie and then burned them onto a DVD using iDVD. I can see the weak jerkiness when panning in both laterally and vertically. I shoot with a camcorder Canon

I have problems with my films that become slightly jerky after I have imported
and edited them in iMovie and then burned them onto a DVD using iDVD.
I can see the weak jerkiness when panning in both laterally
    and vertically.
I shoot with a camcorder Canon Vixia HF10. The camera has been set to deliver HD quality (1920x1080). But I have accidentally filmed with a frame rate of 60 (?).
When I import the films in iMovie I have been asked if I want to change to frame rate 30 (instead of 25). I have chosen 30.
Could it be the setting of a frame rate 60 in my camcorder that causes jerkiness when panning or what else?

  • Ken Burns/Photo import and editing very buggy

I have had a very difficult time inserting photos into my iMovie project.
First, it seems that sometimes when I click on a photo I've imported on to the timeline without the Ken Burns effect the Photo Settings window will not appear when the photo is selected. If I quit iMovie and restart the window will appear again. Clicking on the Show/Hide Photo Settings button appears to do nothing. Also, if I click on the Show Photo Settings button while the photo is highlighted in the timeline sometimes the preview window will switch to a different photo in a timeline and start looping an arbitrary Ken Burns move onto the new (unselected) photo.
Second, there appears to be no elegant way to move pictures around once they have the Ken Burns effect applied to them. If I need to adjust the length of the clip I get numerous error messages about clip lengths not being correct.
These problems never happen in Final Cut, and I wonder if it's just me or if iMovie is incredibly buggy and unmanageable.
    PowerMac G5 2.5DP   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

it seems that sometimes when I click on a
photo I've imported on to the timeline without the
Ken Burns effect the Photo Settings window will not
appear when the photo is selected.
Yes, the Photo Settings window seems a bit erratic. It's probably not, actually. Instead of being a standard button, the button should be a checkbox button where we tell iMovie we want it the Photo Settings window to open when photos are selected. Its behavior is consistent with a checkbox button, but since it's a standard button, it appears flakey and its behavior erratic.
Here's the confusing part: When you've been working on a photo with the Photo Settings window open, then click on a video clip -- a clip that's NOT a photo -- the Photo Settings window goes away, as it should. If you later click on an imported photo, or click on a photo in the Photos pane, the Photo Settings window re-appears all on its own.
If, however, the Photo Settings window was NOT open when you clicked on the video clip, the Photo Settings window does NOT re-open later when you click on an imported photo or a photo in the Photos pan.
That behavior appears erratic, for sometimes the Photo Settings window opens when you click on a photo and sometimes it doesn't. It all depends on what you did while editing the PREVIOUS photo/photo clip, but that's not obvious.
If the button were a checkbox, it would simply tell iMovie to open the Photo Settings window as we work on photos or not, just like any other preference. Then the window behavior would make sense.
To add to the confusion, the name of the standard button changes as it should, but offers to "Show Photo Settings" when a VIDEO clip is selected. Nothing happens when you press the button, of course, for a video clip has no photo settings. So once again, the button doesn't appear to function correctly. But it were a checkbox that toggled on/off, we wouldn't expect it to open the Photo Settings window while a video clip is selected.
At the very least, the button should be disabled when a video clip is selected, but it's not.
So the best I can tell, the Photo Settings window opens and closes as it should, but it appears erratic because the user interface is wrong.
Oh, there is one other bug. If the Themes Drop Zone window is open when you click on the "Show Photo Settings" button, nothing happens. The Photo Settings window fails to open.
And one more. The Photo Settings window "sticks" to the project window. If the project window is low on the screen and you place the Photo Settings window above the project window, then close the Photo Settings window and drag the project window up, the Photo Settings window is re-opened off screen. It opens but it doesn't appear to, for you can't see it.
There appears to be no elegant way to move
pictures around once they have the Ken Burns effect
    applied to them.
The best I can tell, dragging imported photo works exactly like dragging video clips. I've always found dragging clips a bit clumsy with the timeline in Timeline viewer mode instead of Clip viewer, so maybe that's the problem for you. The trick is to drag the thumbnail above or below the timeline before dragging it left or right.
Except for that, you should be able to simply drag the thumbnail to where you want it in the timeline and iMovie HD will slide clips over to accept it. (Sometimes it's necessary to wiggle the mouse a bit so iMovie HD figures out you want it to scroll the timeline or slide stuff over.)
When dragging a long distance across the timeline, it's sometimes easier to first drag the clip to the Clips pane, scroll the timeline to the destination area, then drag the clip down into the timeline.
If I need to adjust the length of
the clip I get numerous error messages about clip
    lengths not being correct.
Hmmm. More specifics please. How exactly are you adjusting the length of the clip? Exactly what error message?
Are you typing a very short time into the textbox of the duration slider of Photo Settings? Yes, that's got a bug that complains when you go less 1 second. The workaround is to drag the slider. (The textbox has been buggy in every version of iMovie. It's simpler to just not use it.)

  • Burning podcasts to dvd or cd

is there anyway to burn podcasts to cd? or am i just a fool to believe this can happen?

Sure you can. Skip iteuns entirely. Use whatever burning software that came with your PC.
    Mine has Nero.
I just start Nero, tell it which files I want to burn, and it works.
The podcasts are in a folder named, logically, Podcasts.

  • Burning podcast in iTunes USED to create multiple tracks

I have in the past burned podcasts with multiple chapters to an audio CD. This used to create a cd with multiple tracks. Making it easy to skip around from chapter to chapter by skipping tracks on the CD.
Now with my new 27in imac and latest software updates. When ever I burn a podcast to a CD, I get it all as one track on the CD.
I'm trying to burn some of the same AAC podcasts that I've burned before. So that is not the problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions ? Or is this new single track a new 'feature' ?
