Burning problems in iTunes

Hi, i upgrade my iMac to Mac OS X Lion and obviously iTunes too, but the problem is that i just can't burn CD's in iTunes.... So somebody may help in this. Thanks

Dell Inc. Dell DM051
hmmmmm. i'm proceeding under the assumption that you've got a Dell 5150/E510. if i'm wrong about that, please check in with Dell to confirm your model prior to applying any updates.
i had a look at the support site for your model (or at least, what i'm assuming your model is). your firmware appears to be up to date for the HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B that you're getting the error on, but there does seem to be newer firmware available for the SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615. so it might be worth getting that, just in case there some kind of odd interaction happening between the drives.
Dimension 5150/E510
otherwise, we'd better check on some of the other usual suspects with this sort of thing:
iTunes for Windows doesn't recognize my audio CDs

Anyone having problems with burning CDs in iTunes 6?
I'm only posting here because of how great you all are and how
I'm getting no where with Apple or the iTunes forum and
    am exasperated.
Link to threads, consolidated, dealing with the problems:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=397479&tstart=0
    Thanks

    Sup Joshua,
I rummaged thru the threads very quickly. The thing that caught my eye was this:
The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.
I know this isn't a question to ask when you're at the end of your rope, but you're certain it's not a case of bad media?
The reason I ask is I received this error many times in DVD Studio Pro 3 when burning media that was supposedly Pioneer certified (I'm linking to this so that those reading this will stay away from that garbage). My Pioneer DVR-104 would constantly burn coasters on DVDs larger than 1 GB. The issue primarily was watermarking (ie. the lack of the distinct line that you get between the burned and unburned portions. It was blurred instead.)
And, for what it's worth, I also found this issue with the Printable Memorex DVD-Rs (95% coaster rate). Oddly, the non printable discs from Memorex have never been a problem for me.
I ended up jumping thru hoops with Apple Support (restarts, new user accounts, archive & install of Panther, etc). After 4 phone calls, and talking to a product specialist, they sent me a new DVR-104. The new drive burned two of these discs fine, then coaster after coaster. That's when I made the switch to Verbatim media. No coasters since.
Forgive me if this is nothing like your scenario, but there were a lot of links and I really couldn't piece it all together very well.
    Hope you get it solved.

  • A lot of burning problems with ITunes 6.. Where Can I Get ITunes 4 back?

    Hello!
Few weeks ago I've installed ITunes 6 on my new pc.
At this point of time I could burn CDs, but the soundcheck didn't work. I've inserted a blanc disc and selected the playlist. But then the Burn- Button didn't get yellow. So I clicked on it and the CD was directly burned without aligning the volumes of the songs..
The second problem occured today. I've reinstalled iTunes 6 and now the message 'disc recorder not found' appears each time, when I wanna burn a disc.
    What does It Mean?
Is It possible to switch back to iTunes 4. There I hadn't any problems..
[sorry my english is not soo good]

  • More burning problems in itunes

i had originally posted this thread in the wrong forum(windows - oops!), so now i'm posting here.
it would seem a lot of us are currently experiencing problems with our beloved macs, and the burning issue seems to encompass many models, versions, updates, etc.
    could this be the 'viral'?
    see my post below:
and now for something completely different,
i am having similar problems but only when using my external writer (an lg gsa4167b). i've wasted about 15 discs so far, and have been able to isolate it to audio quality (aiff) burns only. itunes will burn an mp3 disc without issue.
and my internal drive (i installed a benq into my emac) works flawlessly in any format.
i am using patchburn 4.0 to install the drive support file (for both writers).
the hang starts just after checking the playlist and the screen indicates burn initialization; and then nothing. conveniently it burns just enough info to toast the disc, as i have to manually turn off the drive to cancel the operation and allow itunes to quit.
while parts of this issue seem to be hardware related, and as i did not own the drive prior to installing 10.4.4 and upgrading to itunes 6.0.2, it seems odd that the drive works flawlessly burning anything and everything else. i can even burn dvds without issue, and disk copy(disk utility) works fine too.
are there any other mac users having the same issue?
    any help would be great.

Sure there are some missing fields depending on what kind of music you own, but ranting/posting in here isn't going to get it added.

  • Burner Problems on iTunes

    Hi,
I usually burn CD's through iTunes. For some reason today my laptop isn't allowing this!
When I go to burn a CD through iTunes, the error message "The disc burner is in use outside iTunes now" appears.
I have never seen this message before, and iTunes is the only disc burner open.
Would be grateful if anyone can shed any light on this!
    Thanks,
    Michelle

  • Device filter Problems, can't burn cds in iTunes, Blank CDs appear to have

Problem was first noticed because I can't burn CDs in iTunes.
The problem is that all blank CDs show that they have no space on them available. If I look at the properties of a blank CD, they show 0 bytes used, 0 bytes free and 0 bytes available.
By removing the upperfilters and lowerfilters in the registry, (accoring to the Microsoft prescribed method for this problem found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060) the problem is solved for my whole sytem except for iTunes. iTunes then tells me that "the registry settings used by iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. ... Please reinstall iTunes."
I reinstall or repair iTunes and then iTunes opens fine but I can't burn with iTunes or any other program since I am back to all blank CDs showing there is no space available.
The iTunes toubleshooting Fac found at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302976 has been tried also and does not change the problem of blank CDs having no space available.

  • Can no longer burn CDs in iTunes

I have successfully been burning CDs in iTunes until recently. I can now no longer burn an audio CD. The CDs I am using are the same as before (CD-R, same make etc) and I am trying to burn albums purchased through iTunes. No error message comes up, it just doesn't burn. I have the latest version of iTunes loaded but can't remember when I loaded this. Perhaps my problems have occurred since then? Can anyone help?

  • Can't burn disc via iTunes. Burn speed too fast. AGAIN!

"iTunes can't burn this CD because the burn speed is too fast for your CD burner or media. Choose a lower speed in the burning pane of iTunes Preferences then try burning again".
I have been having on going problems burning CD’s in iTunes for YEARS, and I know I am not the only one. I get the error message above. Having checked the forum at the time, and posted for help, I am know there is no real solution except to change brand of disc.
Thing is, now I can’t get ANY brands to work. I’ve been through Verbatim, Maxell, JVC, Sony, but none work. The only brand that would work were TDK audios which I can no longer find anywhere.
I know its not the burner, as Toast works fine, and I know I am not alone. Anyone got any ideas?
Even after years Apple seem to be blanking this question. It’s very frustrating not being able to burn my purchased itunes downloads to disc.

To anyone who is interested I think I may have found a possible solution. When you put a blank disc in the drive, wait about 30-60 seconds or so for it to stop spinning before burning.
This seems to work. It's a bit sticky but eventually works. I tried both TDK & Maxwell discs and 9 out of 11 worked. Absolutely no reason why the other 2 didn't, but it's a lot better than none.

  • Itunes locks up computer when I try to burn songs in itunes

i had to have this imac's original optical cd burner replaced with a  MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-85J: at an authorized apple location due to it would not eject discs.
I also had them replace the HD with a new  WDC WD10EALX-009BA0  1TB drive plus the increased the RAM to 3 GB.
now when i tried to burn songs in itunes  v 10.6.8  to a CD-R disc it goes thru the motions like it is going to start the burn process but ends up freezing my computer and I have to reboot without any disc being burned!??   It freezes each time I tried using itunes to burn songs.
I was also getting an error message saying some of the songs were not authorized on this computer but when I go to authorize this computer it says it is already authorized as well as 3 others out of 5 possible.
This imac has been used by all of us but since replacing the HD & CD drive mainly my daughter and my wife plug their iphones and ipad2 to it.  We all have iphones and an ipad2 but only my wife and daughter hook those items up to this computer as I have two other macs I use to connect my iphone to so have not tried to hook to this imac since the new hardware was installed.
My daughter was the 1st one to hook her iphone up to this imac and itunes now shows her name at the top of the itunes window when open.  I assume her name was transferred to this computer via her iphone.  Does that matter if my wife hooks her ipad2 and iphone up to this computer too?
Why would the computer lock up when trying to burn a music disc?
    Thanks
    Bob

I run Win 7 64 bit, there are no compatibility problem.
Give us your specs, also any information about what happened to you, and we'd at least have a fighting chance to sort things out.
Now, we've got no clue as to what went wrong.

  • Error 4261 - burning problems

    Hello,
I've been burning CDs with iTunes for years without any problem. As of about 2 weeks ago, I started receiving 4261 errors almost every time I attempt to burn a CD. At the advice of some similar posts, I have slowed down the burn speed to 1x amd totally uninstalled and re-installed iTunes. Neither has worked.
In addition, no new software or hardware has been added in this time.
One thing that was changed at around the time the error started occurring was a setting within iTunes for where my music was located (I changed it from the default to a separate heard drive that I have.) But thinking that the problem may be related to that, I changed it back to the way it was and the error is still occurring.
In addition, there are 2 cd burners on my computer, but that has been the case for as long as I've had it (2 + years), and has never been a problem.

  • IPod Nano 8gb problems with iTunes/iMac

Bought a brand new iPod Nano 8gb last night. I am trying to use it on an iMac G4 1 gigahertz with OSX 10.4. This computer is not online. I downloaded itunes 7.0.1 from a neighbors computer and installed it on my imac and it seems to work fine. I can hook up the Nano to the iMac with no problem. Itunes recognizes the Nano and seems fine UNTIL I click anywhere in the itunes window woth the Nano plugged in, at which point itunes disappears from my screen. I can relaunch it, but the same thing happens again. Itunes works fine without the Nano plugged in, but not with the Nano.
I called Apple Support, and was told I HAVE to be online to use both itunes and the new Nano I am online at work on a PC, but don't have internet access at home. I have no desire to download songs online, or do anything else online at home, I just want to be able to put my own existing CD's on my Nano to listen to away from home.
Any ideas? Do I HAVE to be online to use iTunes 7 and the new Nano?

I guess I'd better clarify this for my own sake. By "update" are you referring to changing music, folders, artists, etc? In which case, I realize that I would need to update my Nano to reflect any changes I make to my music files. If by "update" you are referring to making a software or firmware change through an internet connection, then I would think this would be a rare occurrence that could be done at a friends computer.
The Apple "help" person on the phone said that I couldn't even USE my Nano without being online. Period. That the new Nano and new versions of iTunes REQUIRED an internet connection to function properly.
At the Apple authorized dealer where I bought the Nano, they said there is no need at all to be online, as long as I have the proper versions of everything (OS, iTunes, etc) installed, it should work fine, there is no need for an internet connection. (Unless I want to actually download songs, of course) They have burned a CD for me with the required updates they feel I will need, which I will install later this evening. Hopefully that will work.
It makes no sense to me that I would be REQUIRED to be connected to the internet in order for the Nano to simply be able to playback songs I have stored on my iMac, as I was told by the Apple help person the phone. He made NO effort to help at all, saying repeatedly that as long as I was not "online" with my iMac, the Nano and iTunes would not work, saying "What part of this don't you understand?"
    Then he hung up.

  • HELP! I updated my software and can no longer burn cds using iTunes

I followed all of the troubleshooting steps for not being able to burn a cd. I was able to burn cds with other cd burning programs installed on my pc, but itunes was the only program that would not burn the cd correctly. itunes would go through the entire process of burning: check media, check playlist, burn cd, finish burning cd. itunes would even ask me if I wanted to import the new cd into my playlist after it finished "burning" my cd but there was never anything on the cd. I also tried playing the cd using other programs and in other equipment but it never worked. I updated my software recently and I thought I could try to go back to an older version because I never had this problem before. However, when I uninstalled the newer version and tried to reinstall an older version of itunes, the older version of itunes refused to open because my music library was apparently created by the newer version of itunes. I don't know what to do to be able to burn cds again. At this point, I would much rather use another cd burning program but itunes is the only program that will burn the songs that I've purchased from itunes onto a cd.

Notes usually sync with a mail service i.e gmail, yahoo, aol, etc. Do you have a mail account setup on your product? If so, have you went into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Select your mail account > see if notes are toggled on

  • Burning issues with itunes and Windows Vista Ultimate

I recently purchased a new computer with Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit version. Since loading itunes on my new computer I can not burn a CD. The message that I receive says that there is no burner available. I know the burner works because I have burned music out of different software programs. I have loaded and reloaded Nero 7 but I am finding that is not the problem. Itunes does not recognize any type of CD burner on my computer. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    paul's onto it.
if you run your DVD/CD diagnostics (in itunes "help > DVD/CD diagnostics", select DVD/CD diagnostics) and you see a 2380 error showing up down near the bottom of the diagnostics (you may need to scroll down a bit), try reinstalling the 64-bit version of the GEAR drivers iTunes uses for importing and burning.
here's a link through to the GEAR drivers. note that there are two different versions of the 64-bit drivers. be sure to get the one that matches your hardware:

  • Issues burning discs on iTunes/ error message about burn speed

I've never had problems burning discs on iTunes until today, I tried to burn one of my playlists on a Memorex CD-R.
    - The burn seemed to be going OK at first, but the drive started making an obnoxious, loud noise by the 4th song out of 16.
    - The progress bar in iTunes then said "burning disc, finalizing" even though the CD had not been finished.
    - The drive practically launches the CD out, causing it to drop, rather than ejecting half way and holding it like usual. An error message came up saying something along the lines of, "iTunes cannot burn this CD because the burn speed is too high for the CD drive or media. Lower the burn speed in the burning pane of preferences"
    - I tried it again without changing the burn speed (which I suppose was set to maximum) thinking it was something to do with the disc. The same thing happened the second time I tried to burn the disc. The reason I didn't change the burn speed when it asked me to was because I'd never been prompted about the burn speed and I've used the whole stack of these Memorex CD's without problems.
I am trying to figure out where the problem really lies - does this sound like an iTunes issue (which needs an update except that my system does as well), CD issue or a drive issue? Is there a more reasonable burn speed I should try next time?
Any help would be so appreciated, thank you!!

Try a different brand. Highly recommended:
    FUJI
    TDK
    Verbatim
Make sure the CDs are not dirty, smudged and/or scratched.

Your drive may need cleaning. Cleaning kits can be purchased from any store that sells CD/DVDs.

Burning CDs, especially with iTunes, has always been finicky.
For CDs that have playback problems, the first thing to try is to burn again at a very low speed, e.g. 2x.  This selection is made as the "Preferred Speed" in the Burn Disc dialog.
That often solves it, but if not, the next thing to try is a different brand of CD-R blank.  (I assume you already know that CD-RWs will not give good results, so it has to be a CD-R.) I eventually gave up on every brand of CD-R blank except Verbatim, but it will depend on your burner.
If there are still problems, try burning a CD on the same computer with a non-iTunes program, such as Toast.  If there is a problem with your burner, you will see it.
