Burning project in iDVD

I have created a project in iMovie 09 using still photos, audio from iTunes and fades etc from iMovie.
I have published it in Browser and sent it to iDVD I created a them from the Themes list. The map shows the grey panel, the theme and the project. When I play it in review it is as it should be and it all works. The map shows one of the panels in blue, which I can move to the other panels if I wish. When I burn the project it appears without the audio or with just the theme. I have not tried to burn after highlighting the project .... I am running out of discs. Help

Hi
When I burn the project it appears without the audio or with just the theme.
Usually due to a Copy protection in iTunes.
Do - in iTunes Copy out Your audio to an Audio-CD .aiff (not .mp3)
Then use this audio in Your iMovie project.
I copy CD to a folder on hard disk - so that iMovie doesn't lose track of it when CD is ejected.
iMovie doesn't make a copy of it's own to it's projects only points at where audio file is stored.

  • Problems while trying to burn project

    Good morning
i'm trying to burn project with idvd from ilife 11.
every time the process stuck at the final stage (i think) -
i get "multiplexing and burning" message, below that "done"' is written,
and below that - "rime remaining: about one minute". that message is here for the past 12 hours.
the dvd itself didn't start the burning at all (i tried several times, with several different dvd's)
    please help
    Thanks

Why would we start different threads if we are all experiencing the same issue?? Isn't that the point of a thread... I might be new to this forum but not new to forums at all. They are collaborative efforts. I and we appreciate your help but were not going to follow 6 different threads for the what appears to be the same issue. If one of us rectify the issue, others will try the same. If it doesn't work then the thread could progress in that issue or start a new one.
As it states in my signature or info section (what ever you call it over here) I have a late model 2007 17" MacBook Pro3.1 with a 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of Ram and an Intel 160GB Solid State hard drive which has 60GB of free space. Im also running OSX 10.6.5, I just ran a software update and everything is up to date. Disk utility reports a healthy disk, verified and no errors.
I can burn CDs and backup DVDs from iTunes. I WAS able to burn DVDs from iDVD before I upgraded to iLife'11. Nothing else was running while i was doing this. I've tried on different types and brands of media with no success. Every time it gets hung up at the same spot and spits out the disk which is unreadable.
I CAN create a disk image (just did) and its sitting on my desktop. Inserted blank DVD+R, opened it up in finder, dragged and dropped the .img into it, burnt and verified.

  • Low quality of burned DVD even if I drag&drop iMovie project into iDVD

    Hi all,
I've a iMovie HD project that I want to burn via iDVD (7.0.4).
If I click "Share with iDVD" the quality of the resultung video (which is burned to DVD) is rather poor. As I've read within this discussions, the preferred way is to close iMovie and "drag and drop" the iMovie project into iDVD.
With this way, iDVD (instead of iMovie) will render the movie, which should give a video with far more quality.
Unfortunately, the burned DVD with the "drag and drop" method has the same low quality as the video with "Share with iDVD".
I've done a little research and noticed that the "shared movie" for iDVD (iMovie project->Show package Contents->Shared Movies->iDVD) for a 1:10 video has a filesize of only 32kb!
Is there any way to set the "export" parameters for this "shared movie" (it is a quicktime file)?
The quality of the completed DVD is acceptable if I export the iMovie project to "DV stream" an import this stream into iDVD. But in this case I lose all my chapter markers of the movie ..
Is there any way to export the movie from iMovie HD and keep all the chapter markers for iDVD?
Importing the iMovie HD project into iMovie 08/09 is not an option, as I lose the chapter markers also ..
    Thanks in advice,
    Kind regards.

    Hi,
the iMovie project was created as "DV" project and I imported DV PAL clips. The iDVD preferences are also PAL (25fps) and the quality setting is "professional quality".
I've also tried the setting "best performance" within iDVD (as suggested within this forum), but with the same poor result.
I can see within the iDVD "project info" that iDVD will use "mymovie.mov" within the "Shared Movies->iDVD" of the iMovie project (Show package contents).
As this converted movie is of low quality, I think this is the root of evil.
If I export the movie from iMovie with "Export as DV stream" and import this converted movie into iDVD the quality is ok - but I lose the chapter markers ..
Is there any way to keep the chapter markers?
    Kind regards.

  • Burning a FCP project in iDVD?

I would like to burn a FCP project to DVD using iDVD but cannot seem to import the project...when I open iDVD, and select open existing project, none of my FCP projects can be selected.  Is there another way I should be doing this? Should I be using DVD Studio Pro? Thanks!

    Hi
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

Hi, please help me When I render my project in IDVD, video and audio runs properly, but when I burn it in professional quality and burning is finished there was no audio on the last two chapters, one audio is attached to the clip and the other one is from itunes, pls help

    Hi
    My first two thoughts
    • Shared to Media Browser - BUT as Large or HD - try Medium !
    • audio from iTunes - use to go silent
    - in iTunes
    - Create a new PlayList with needed audio
    - BURN this as a standard Audio-CD (.aiff) - NOT .mp3
    - use the files on this CD in Your Movie project - I ALWAYS DO - and only use .aiff ever - never .mp3'
    My notes on this:
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.

    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In

Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • Burning imovie project without idvd menus

hey all..so i made a music video in imovie 08 with one of my band's songs and camcorder footage, and wanted to burn in onto DVD. i downloaded Aimersoft burner, but it wouldn't let me import it to try and burn it. i didn't think burning a data DVD in itunes would work, so i did a search on the forum and followed instructions on how to burn it in idvd. the thing is though, it's just a music video, so i don't want the fancy menus and themes that i had to put in to burn it in idvd...i just want to put the disc in a DVD player and have the video come on. is this possible to do in iDVD, and if so..how? otherwise, is there a way to do this with another application? would burning a data DVD through itunes actually work? any help would be much appreciated!

There is a work around. You can try to pull the video before the menus. You can go to the "map" button (one of the three buttons below the viewing pane in idvd) and click on your video (after you have added your video in idvd) and then pull itbefore the menu block. You can then try to delete the menu from there. I havent tried it, but read it somewhere

  • How can I add extra footage to a burned project?

I burned an imovie project through idvd and deleted the project on my hard drive. I figured since I had it on a dvd I could load it back on my computer and add stuff in the future. When I loaded it back all I saw was two folders, audio ts and video ts. How can I get my imovie project loaded back up so I can add more stuff, and burn a new copy. I am going to be making lots of projects in the future and I dont want to have to store everything on my hard drive. What do I do?
    Thanks,
    Doug

Yes you can. (1) Go to the file menu while in Imovie. (2) select share, (3) select video camera, (4) use the interface to add seconds of black tape before and after your film as desired, (5) as the warning says be sure to have blank tape and your camera in VTR code. (6) press share and voila your camera should record your movie. Now you can store it and even add others if you have room. If your going to add others I suggest you add 8 seconds or more of black to the end. So, when you record your next movie you won't overlap and ruin your master. Enjoy.

  • Project Duration error message when loading short iDVD 5 project in iDVD 6

My iDVD 5 project is very short - a total of about 7 minutes (including video and an audio loop for the menu). The video clips were exported as DV NTSC non-self-contained quicktimes from Final Cut Pro.
When I attempt to load the project into iDVD 6, I get the following error message:
    Project duration
Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn this project, remove some content.
Twirling down the triangle for more info gives:
    Project:
    - total project duration: -2147483648:-2147483648 minutes
    - total project capacity: 429496729 GB (max. available: 4.172 GB)
Also, trying to open the Project Info window crashes iDVD.
I haven't attempted burning, but I'm pretty sure it'd be a waste of a DVD.
My only thought is that iDVD 6 somehow is misreading the non-self-contained quicktimes, but I've never had an issue with them before, and it'd be a drag to redo all my projects with space-hogging self-contained versions.

Many people had trouble opening iDVD 5 projects in iDVD 6 when it first came out. My one iDVD 5 wouldn't open at all.

  • When I try to burn my slideshow.mov to a dvd disc, it will burn but when i put it in the dvd player it says 'disc error'. I have burned it thru iDVD before but forgot how to do it and it won't do it now. The slide show is on my desktop

Rather than burn directly to disk follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • If there ever was a NEW update for iMovie, will iMovie have the ability to burn projects onto a Blu-Ray disc so that customers don't have to pay for additional software like Final Cut Pro or Roxio Toast Titanium/Pro?

It would be helpful for those who are familier with iMovie to use Blu-Ray discs for burning and playing back their iMovie projects in HD. However, iMovie '11 doesn't have that special feature yet. I hear that 'Final Cut Pro X,' 'Roxio Toast 11 Titanium' and 'Roxio Toast 11 Pro' can copy projects like iMovie onto Blu-Ray, but it would take long periods of time to do that. Professional software, like FCP X and Toast, can be pricey.
I'm hoping that iMovie '11 will burn projects onto Blu-Ray, but will that ever come true?

Will iBlu-Ray be an upgrade? OR and update of iDVD?
If it's an upgrade, then that means you'd still pay for it from the Mac App Store. I wish it would only cost between $20-40.
If it's a free update of iDVD, but with the new name, that would be better than to go out and pay for things!!!
However, external Blu-ray recorders would still be required if you were going to burn an iMovie project onto a blu-ray disc.
Is there a way to put in a request for 'iBlu-Ray?'

  • Ken Burns Effect in iDVD without iPhoto?

I was wondering if I can add the Ken Burns Effect in iDVD without having to make a slideshow in iPhoto and exporting.

This seems very inefficient to me. So in order to get motion slideshows, you have to export the slideshow from iPhoto as a .mov file (or iMovie which is even less easy), which takes quite a long time (at least 10min or so?) even on my MBP 2ghz and chewed up 500mb for 5 minutes. I have 17 slideshows I'd like to put in one iDVD project - processing them one by one in this way is a real pain in the neck.
Hopefully, one day Apple will either:
    - allow you to queue slideshow exporting in iPhoto; or preferably
    - accept motion slideshows is a core functionality for iDVD in the same way transitioning slideshows are. iDVD could just call on the iPhoto app behind the scenes to process the motion slideshows, if they really didn't want to move all that code into iDVD.

  • Skipped audio files when burning disc in iDVD.

I burned a DVD using iDVD version 7.0. The audio files sound perfect on the computer but on the disc there are skipped areas noted in three different audio files. • Burn failures in iDVD

I'm getting a very high rate of burn failures with iDVD. When I create a DVD the program rattles thru its various tasks but when it comes to 'burning' the drive keeps revving up but fails to 'get going' - after about half a dozen attempts the disc ejects and the comment is that 'errors were found...' (or words to that effect).
I'll re-do the project and maybe it'll work and maybe it wont - its frighteningly random. Tried different discs - that doesn't appear to be the deciding factor. But once a disc has failed there are no signs of 'burn' on it and yet it will be useless... With a success rate of less than 50% its getting to be quite expensive!

Thanks for the response to my iDVD problem.
I did as you suggested and created a disk image of the project - tried to open it with DVD player but it couldn't see it. I quickly made disk images of DVD projects that had been successful but they weren't seen by the player either - perhaps I misunderstood that particular part of the scenario.
Anyway, I re-created the project with a newly-made file and it worked fine - but as I said - its all fairly random and success rates are low.
My projects are always created in FCP5. I use DVD-R's - the last batch being 16x.
I don't use MP3's because they still don't work properly in FCP so I don't think the problem lies there.
    Any other suggestions gratefully received.

You will have to purchase the newest iLife in the boxed set to get the latest version of iDVD. Or you can try using some other DVD burning software such as Roxio's Toast. Look for it and others at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads
