Burning Student-made GarageBand music to CDs??

My students made their own songs in GarageBand. It was an end-of-the-year reward for them to burn them onto a CD to take home. We tried sending to iTunes and then burning a CD as well as just changing the file to an MP3 - neither approach worked in a stand-alone CD player.
What am I missing? I want my kiddos who don't have computers at home (most of them) to be able to play music they've made.
Any suggestions on how to burn created music onto a CD where playing the music in iTunes is not an option?
Thanks for your help!
Laurie

you have to set iTunes' prefs to burn an "audio cd"

  • Can I burn a cd WITH music?

I tried to burn a slide show I made to music. How do I get the music to burn to the disk?

Are you using music purchased from iTunes? If so, you should take these preliminary steps.
    1. Burn the music in question to a CD.
    2. Reimport the music as an AIFF file. iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Importing>Import using: (drop down menu) AIFF encoder
    3. This music can now be imported into your project.
    I hope this helps.

  • If you had 3 hours to teach high school students about garageband how would you do it?

    Hello,
I am going to be teaching a Garageband workshop and I'd like to cover the most important aspects of Garageband. I have 3 hours.
What should I do? (podcasting, magic garageband, music loops, song creation, etc...)

I would do a simple song creation, start to finish using loops. This assumes some pointers on arrangement, applying effects, basic mixing, Master Track Fadeout, export to disk/iTunes and sharing to a site like Soundcloud. (In fact I would consider starting a group on SC to encourage your students to upload their creation over a certin time period where everyone can listen to the classes creative work - it will be free).
I would also show how to hook up a MIDI instrument, real instrument like guitar/bass and creating a vocal track.
I would include some good house keeping habits like repeated saving and external storage/ backup of work.
I would share some websites and online learning outlets of GB interest so people know where to look for some answers beyond the class.
I would briefly outline that GB can do so much more...
Above all, I would stess RTFM.

  • Music from CDs that is on my iPod won't transfer to my iTunes library on a different computer I used to use but all music bought from iTunes will? How do I fix this?

In the past to get music from CDs onto my iTunes library and onto my iPod was all easy and fine, as you would know if you have done such a thing before. I used to use a different laptop for all my music stuff to the desktop I have to use now as the other one is broken. It is an authorised computer on my iTunes, so my issue has got nothing to do with that. When I got this desktop (it is quite an old one, if that makes any difference), i had to download iTunes and put all my music into my library to back it up.
However, all music that I had bought physically that is currently on my iPod (CDs) WON'T transfer into my new library on the desktop, but all music that I had bought digitally (iTunes) WILL transfer.
This has led to about 300 missing songs in my library and means I can't transfer all of my music onto a different device (as I am trying to transfer all my music onto an iPhone 3).
I have tried countless things. All of that "File > Devices > Transfer purchases" stuff WILL. NOT. WORK. I tried copying the music into a file on the desktop and then adding said file into the library, but it won't let me paste any music.
If someone were to help me in transferring the music I so dearly love then I would be eternally grateful.
    Thank you

  • I am having problems with my music collection, after burning all of my music to the computer I organized it into folders and placed it in the iTunes Folder. Starting on a new computer now. I can get my music from old computer?

I am having problems with my music collection, after burning all of my music to the computer I organized it into folders and placed it in the iTunes Folder. As of now i realize this was a mistake. Starting on a new computer now. I cant get my music to transfer from the itunes folder on the old computer? I keep getting error "Can't Read from the source file or disk." Whenever I got to folder properties its always checked read only. But when i play the song it works just fine. Im sure this is just because I added music into itunes folder but is there anyway to fix it?

WMA files are 'window media audio' files, which is a Microsoft format. If you want to add them to your iTunes library on your Mac then you will need to convert them into a compatible format first. If you still have your windows machine then iTunes for Windows can convert them from WMA to MP3 format : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24158701#24158701
Or try a search for, for example, 'convert wma to mp3' to find programs to convert them.

  • How do i back-up my music to cds?

According to the directions, I should find a link under File -> Library -> back-up  on iTunes.  I can't find an option for backing up anywhere.  I would like to back-up my music to cds.

The back up to CD/DVD feature has been removed from the latest builds of iTunes. Use the backup software that comes with Windows or your drive. Alternatively...
Fast backup for iTunes library  (Windows)
Grab SyncToy  2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time.
If your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes, regardless of the drive letter or path it appears on.

Well, this question really belongs in the iTunes forum, which is where you will get fast answers.
Just go to iTunes Preferences.  Click on the General icon.  Set When you insert a CD to Ask to Import CD.  Click on Import Settings.  Set Import to MP3 decoder.  Make sure you're using Good Quality.
This should deal with your CD's.
With your current music, as long as it does not have DRM restrictions (older iTunes Music did), select the song, right click on the song (or group of songs), pull down to Create MP3 version.

  • I have some music from CDs and recent purchases from iTunes on my iPhone 4 that are not synced with my iTunes account on my computer.  How can I sync my phone and iTunes on my computer without losing what is on my iPhone?  (original computer was stolen)

I have some music from CDs and recent purchases from iTunes on my iPhone 4 that I would like to sync with my iTunes account on my computer.  The CDs were on my original laptap also, but it was stolen and I set up the iTunes on my new computer.
When I try to sync I get a message indicating that the iPhone iTunes will be replaced with the computer iTunes.
How can I sync and retain both iTunes?

Music is designed to sync in one way only, and that is from iTunes to the phone. There is the expectation that you would backup the computer to save this data. There are 3rd party solutions to try and recover music from the phone to put back into a blank iTunes library.

  • HT1473 Copy music from CDs to iTunes library without a CD drive

I have a Macbook without a CD drive (purchased in winter 2012-13); my husband has a Mac desktop (few years old). I'd like to copy some music from CDs to my iTunes library for listening on my iPhone (4S) and Mac (and, perhaps, one day, iPad). My husband says that if we insert one of the CDs into his Mac and copy/import it, it will only go into HIS iTunes library. If that's so, how can I get the music from his library into my Macbook.
If that's not so, how do we specify where the copied files should go so that I can access them? I'm not totally Apple-savvy, so please bear with me on this!?

Import them into his computer, then copy them from his iTunes Music folder to your computer via Home Sharing - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 - (probably the easiest), file sharing, or an external storage device such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive. If you use any method other than Home Sharing, just drag the tracks into the iTunes window on your computer.
You posted in the iTunes for Windows forum, by the way. Just FYI for future questions.
    Regards.

  • How am I supposed to upload music from CDs onto my iMac without a CD drive?

I have music that does not exist on iTunes, and I am beyond upset that I am not able to upload it to my computer and my phone. If there was a stupid CD drive, I would be able to enjoy my music, but I can't because the CD drive does not exist. How do I upload music from CDs onto my computer if there is nowhere to insert a disk?

There are cheap ones (under$50) that'll last anywhere from a year to three years or more expensive(over $50 and higher) that will last much longer.
Not all optical drives are Mac compatible.
Most Mac compatible drives you will only find to be purchased online.
Here are two on Amazon.com that are cheap and Mac compatible

Here's another source for Mac compatible optical drives. These are better quality optical drives.
These are also tray loading drives.

How do I backup ALL of my iPad content onto a newly purchased MacBook Air? I can't backup up apps or music from CDs through the device backup function.

First you need to authorize your MBA with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
With your iPad connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPad. This will transfer/copy all iTunes content on your iPad that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
Photos on your iPad that were transferred from your old computer need to be transferred from your old computer to your MBA.
Before syncing contacts with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal if you aren't syncing this content over the air with an iCloud account, enter one contact in the Address Book and one calendar event in iCal on your MBA. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provided a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your MBA with iPhoto or the Image Capture application.

  • Is it ok to sell GarageBand music?

    Hi there,
I was browsing the iTunes store and noticed that some people are selling GarageBand music as ringtones:
    200 Bulk Ringtones: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/200-bulk-ringtones/id356537322
    Top Ringtones: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/top-ringtones/id353944563
I was wondering if this is ok to do because most of the music in these albums is identical to what you hear in Garage band.

I think those "some people" are Apple, who own the rights, no?

  • I want 2 put music from cds on another ipod without the songs being in my..

I want 2 put music from cds on another ipod without the songs being in my library. Sorry it cut me off on the title. I want to import songs to put on my brother's ipod, but when I try to delete the song from my library it deletes it from his too. Help?

If you want to delete content from your computer but keep it on the iPod (so that is not deleted next time you connect it to iTunes), you need to set that iPod to manage the iPod content manually.

  • Backing up music to cds

I just got a new laptop and i need to move my itunes from my old laptop to the new. A while ago i backed up all my music to some CDs but since then i've gotten more music and stuff. Now i can no longer find the option to back-up the rest of my music to CDs. I do not have an extrenal hard drive and i have A LOT of music so i don't think it will fit on a flash drive. Please help!!! I don't want to have to find all my CDs, music files, & other people's CDs and re-download all of them again!

    No. However, you can:
    - connect each computer to the same network
    - Enable sharing on the new computer hard drive
    - On the old computer go to Networked devices What it is call depends upong the operating system. Click on the new computer and navigate to the iTunes library and just copy it to the old computer.
