Burning tracks from iPod Playlist

Hi all,
The time has come to get my 50Gb of music off my powerbook and keep my library entirely on my iPod Photo 60Gb.
Before I make the leap I wanted to check if it's still possible to burn cds of playlists stored on your iPod? I can remember I used to be able to do this under older versions of iTunes but I cant find any mention of this feature now.
Can anyone shed any light? Any help greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Drew

You can't burn directly from your iPod. If the playlists are in iTunes you can burn them from there

  • Burn CD from iPod playlist?

I'm listening to some songs I ripped from my purchased CDs on my work PC - the library file these tracks were initially added from is on my home PC. Along the way, I made a playlist in iTunes and saved this playlist on my iPod for later listening. Since I listen to music in my car, I'd also like to burn the files in that playlist to a CD, however since I'm using song files stored on my iPod it's not letting me burn them to CD, even though they are DRM-free MP3 files I ripped from my own CDs.
Is there a way to work around the asinine "copy guard" BS that's part of iTunes so I can use MY music the way I want? Thanks in advance!

So... I can't burn to a CD from my iPod - I'll need to copy the files to my PC to do that.
Oh, wait... whoops, I forgot - I can't even COPY the files from my iPod to the second PC from that iPOd without a third-party application...
That sounds like a DRM issue to me, seeing as how it's in no way a TECHNICAL issue. it's an artificial limitation imposed on my file usage by the software. Grrr.
But I see what you're saying - without the files being on the PC that created the initial Library file (my home PC), I cannot burn a CD. At least I'll be able to take the Playlist I made and saved on my iPod and use it as the burn list on my home PC, correct?
Thanks for the Product Feedback link - not thatit will do me any good I assume, but at least I'll go on record as being dis-satisfied with the service. If enough people complain maybe things will change. Appreciate it!

  • When I try to burn music from my Playlist to a blank CD, the notification tells me that the list has too many minutes for the CD, even if I try to burn just one song. What's going on?

WHEN I TRY TO BURN MUSIC FROM MY PLAYLIST TO A BLANK CD, THE NOTIFICATION COMES UP AND TELLS ME I AM EXCEEDING THE NUMBER OF MINUTES THE CD WILL HOLD. THIS NOTIFICATION HAPPENS EVEN IF I TRY TO BURN JUST ONE SONG. WHAT'S GOING ON?

Katy, you are completely doing things in the wrong order.  You can't burn songs if you can't even play them, and iTunes can't play them if it can't find them.
The exclamation point normally occurs if the song file, or one of its containing folders, has been moved, renamed or deleted.  So if you encounter a track with an exclamation point, don't do anything else until you find the file.  It is usually somewhere else on your hard drive, or else in the Recycle bin.  Failing both of those, get it from your most recent backup.
After your restore it, make sure it can play.  If it can play you can put it into a playlist.  Then you can burn the playlist.

  • Delete (as in Trash) a track from a playlist view?

Because I so despise Apple's new segregated libraries (I'd be okay if I could just shift a few tracks from one auto(cratic) category to another without major effort), I am toying with creating smart playlists of my various genres to ease my browsing. The problem is, there isn't any way (that I know of) to delete a track from a playlist. And I mean delete as in "remove from the library, ask me if I want to move it to the trash" delete, not "remove from the playlist" delete.
Does anyone know of a way to do this (easily)?
It almost seems like a philosophical issue -- I mean, why isn't there a "trash" option in the contextual menu for a track wherever I'm viewing it? There's a clear logic for deleting a track from a regular playlist meaning that it is only removed from that playlist, but left in the library. But in a smart playlist, when I hit delete, I can't remove it from the playlist -- delete has no functionality. I noticed this when playing with iFlicks, which does let you trash a video while viewing it in a smart playlist -- which intuitively made sense to me.
I honestly only go into the library view when I need to throw things out anyway, so having it segregated (and unpredictably, since it's based on filetype rather than genre -- i.e. underlying and indeterminant format, rather than conceptual and -- hopefully -- determinant metadata) makes it hard to predict where a track may end up.
    Thoughts?

Bob, that does indeed solve the question. The panting rage has subsided, to be replaced by mere indignation.

  • HOW DO I BURN TRACKS FROM NAPST

i have just started using napster , but i cant seem to burn any tracks onto cd in order to put them onto my zen touch.
what am i doing wrong ?

The only way that you can burn tracks from napster is if you buy them... if you have bought the tracks... then you could probably burn them using the tool provided by napster... or even in windows media player 0... other than that I don't know what your problem could be since you were kinda vague in the explanation.

  • Recover dead tracks from ipod

recently my music HD got slightly corrupted and i lost afew tracks (533) so they'er comming up as dead tracks in itunes. my ipod is synced up to date so all thoes missing tracks are on the ipod, are there any tools that can recover the dead tracks from the ipod to fix my itunes database, its a horrific task doing it manually, cheers guys

The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

  • IPod Full - How do I remove tracks from iPod to create space?

The tracks in my iTunes has superseeded the size of my 20GB iPod.
I need to leave some space on my iPod to back up important work files, therefore how do I remove selected tracks from my iPod to create the necessary space?
    Thx for your help.
    Matt.

Any changes needed for your iPod will have to be made in iTunes. How about making a specific playlist in iTunes for your iPod of a specfic size which will allow for your work files, then in your iPod preferences tell iTunes to only sync iPod to that playlist? Welcome to discussions!

  • Tracks from ipod to pc

Can anyone please help me, I recently had to have my pc returned to base due to a fault. Unfortunately when I receive my pc back it shall be reset back to the factory setting meaning that all my itunes shall be erased, but I still have all my tracks on my ipod.
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to move tracks from my ipod back to my pc??

    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method I've seen posted. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.

You have to place the iPod in Manual Music Transfer in order to play music on the Ipod through the PC.

With regard to your question about the iTMS music contained on the audio CD, the DRM is removed when you burn purchased/protected content to audio CD. You are limited in terms of how many times you can burn the same playlist when purchased/protected content is part of it, etc.
