Burning tracks to CD on iTunes

I'm burning all my tracks on iTunes onto CD (about 350 tracks). All the tracks are bought from either iTunes or Amazon but I'm getting some volume variations. The CD's are all the same (CD-RW) and bought from the same source (high street retailer).
The quality doesn't seem to vary but some tracks just play quieter. It's happening on approx 10% of all the tracks. It doesn't seem to be an issue with bps, higher bps tracks (256+) are sometimes low sound. Anybody have any ideas?

When I put a cd in my computer, I don't see anything pop up on the itunes screen to identify the cd or its tracks for burning purposes.
just doublechecking, Televachi. no CD icon shows up in your itunes sourcelist (the area to the left) at all?
if so, do you briefly see a dialog about a "Gracenote/CDDB" when you put the CD in? (and then nothing seems to happen after that?) or is there just absolutely no activity by itunes whatsoever?

I went through tons of steps that I found online including all of the steps to Fix Gear Drivers. I did the registery steps, I updated my CD & DVD drivers, I uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes, Bonjour, Quicktime and all else in the long list.
Nothing has helped. What else can be done? The message has changed as I have done all of the self-fix steps but it won't let me burn disks still and still get errors.
Help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,
FYI, the step that has me add back Upperfilters causes Itunes to no longer recognize the drives so I can't do this step. I have tried everything listed.

I've had the same problem. I notice that my Superdrive justs looks at the disc for a bit and then spits it out.
When I boot from my clone of my 10.4.10 setup, I can mount and burn a CD-R in iTunes, although the names of the tracks and disc are screwed up (while the actual data is correct).
But in 10.4.11 and Leopard (also testing that on an external drive) the blank disc won't mount at all.

Tracks downloaded from iTunes match are not DRM protected, if that is what you mean.

Burning track info

When I burn music to a CD iTunes saves the files with the folowing file names: Track 1, Track 2, etc. How can I get iTunes to save the tracks with the artists/song names?

Burning a playlist to CD, Itunes names blank CD same name every time.

Whenever I burn a playlist to a blank audio CD, Itunes keeps naming the CD and the track the same name as a CD I burned last year. For example, I have a playlist named Song A. The track is named Song A. I insert a blank CD (untitled CD). I name the untitled cd "Song A". I select the playlist and click "burn to CD". After burning, the audio CD is now titled "Song B" and the track is titled "song B". If I do this now with "song C", the audio CD and track will still be named "Song B".

Someone else posted the same problem, and I just replied to them because I'm having the same problem too, and still need an answer. Here's the reply I sent to the other person:
Did you ever get an answer on this? I'm having the same problem. The information about a CD I've burned shows up correctly in iTunes, but on the Mac desktop, the CD title is the title of a playlist I made a long time ago. More incredibly, when I double-click on the CD icon, the Finder shows that the contents of this CD is the (one) song I burned with the old playlist; not the song that really is on this CD. Any help would be appreciated.

Error 4280 for Matshita UJ-831Da - Burn no longer works w/ iTunes.

MY SYSTEM:
Sony laptop
CD/DVD drv = Matshita UJ-831Da
iTunes ver. 7.5.0.20
PROBLEM:
1. Burn quit working when iTunes upgraded to 7.2.
2. I now get Error 4280.
3. The only change was an upgrade to iTunes.
4. No other software, or OS, changed on the system.
5. Burn always worked with old ver. of iTunes.
6. Burn still works with Win Media Player.
7. Burn still works with all other software.
8. iTunes will not upgrade itself now, nor allow "down"grade.
9. Slowing burn speed does not eliminate error 4280.
10. "Run Diagnostics" causes whole system to freeze and crash.
11. Creating new account on system does not eliminate error 4280
12. Creating new account on system does not eliminate freeze / crash.
13. I have credit with iTunes store that cannot be used until fixed.
QUESTION:
This is an Apple iTunes ONLY software problem. What is the fix?

For my Matshita UJ-831Da CD/DVD drive, the driver version showing in device manager is 5.1.2535.0. I just now clicked on "update driver" and the reply was that a newer version could not be found.
But why would doing a "Run Diagnostics" in iTunes now freeze / crash my whole system when it never did before? It only began doing that after it also began failing to burn CDs. Again, the iTunes software is the only software that has ceased to burn CDs.
Several months ago, I finally reached by phone a girl at Apple tech support who first denied there were any known problems. But when I told her that the web was full of thousands of people screaming about this very issue she recanted and admitted that iTunes was having these problems, that they had posted the fix for some of the other CD/DVD drives but not mine. She then said, "but if you pay $35 I'll tell you how to fix it." Absolutely unethical. That's like buying a car then being told that there's now an extra fee for being told how to start it. She may have lied about knowing what the fix is, but either way it's absolutely unethical.
The problem is iTunes. iTunes changed and now won't drive the same current drive it worked with when iTunes accepted my money, in advance, to purchase and burn music at future dates. iTunes should fix the problem.
I'm willing to go through the leg-work, to try all of Apple's instructions here, but Apple also needs to follow through with this.

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

I can not burn CD's with my Itunes anymore. It tells me I am missing CD burner and to re download ITunes. I have done that and it stills does not work. Every time I try, Disc Recorder not found keeps coming up! Please someone help me!!!

Also when I open itunes it gives me a warning and says "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importingand burning cd's and dvds are missing. Please reinstall itunes."
With that one let's first try a reboot and repair.
Reboot the PC (very important), and the do a *repair install* of iTunes.
Go to your "Add or Remove Programs" control panel, select iTunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does iTunes launch without the error message now?
If no luck there, try checking for a device filter conflict in your registry:

Cannot delete tracks after upgrading to iTunes 9

I upgraded to iTunes 9 today. Added a 14 tracks from a new album. Then when I went in to the tag details to bulk edit the album name, it only edited 13 of 14 tracks. I selected only the last track to try and edit it singularly, but the tag info has been grayed out and I cannot touch it. I cannot delete this track, I cannot edit it, and if I delete the whole album, just this track stays.
I checked permissions and I have the rights to read write this track. The permissions for this one track are no different from any other. Help!

I've encountered problems similar to this. Here's how I've dealt with it.
First, carefully examine permissions issues and refresh the iTunes library info if necessary. If you don't have write permissions for the folder containing the files or for the files themselves, iTunes will refuse to rewrite the tags even though it appears to take. You can set this by going to the Finder and using Get Info. If you've already added the files to your iTunes library while they were write locked for you, you will need to clear them from your iTunes library. For this, I typically copy the source audio to another location, delete the original location, remove dead tracks from iTunes (using Doug's Super Remove Dead Tracks ( http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=removedeadsuper )), then copy the files back to their original location (with all permissions issues solved) and trying adding to iTunes again.
Even trying this, I've found some strangely coded mp3 audio tracks that don't allow you to alter tags in iTunes. I've gotten around this by importing each mp3 track into Fission (third party app) and saving back out as a new file. Fission doesn't reencode the audio, so you don't get additional lossy degradation. Doing this will clear up the quirky file headers/wrapper/metadata to make it iTunes tag friendly. While this last solution is tedious, it does fix finicky files.

I tried Notpod but can't get it to work. Part of the problem, I suspect, is that I can't create a folder on my player (a SanDisk Clip+). I also can't do this in Windows Explorer. Whilst I can see the Clip+ in Explorer, the option to create a new folder isn't there.
The error mesag I get in Notpod is:
"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit the application will close immediately.
InvalidArgument=Value of '0' is not valid for 'SelctedIndex'. Parameter name: SelectedIndex"
Then, when I plug the Clip+ into a USB port, iTunes thinks it is my iPad - which is because, I guess, Notpod hasn't worked.
I can drag and drop files from the Music folder where my iTunes tracks are stored onto the Clip+ and they get converted but I'd rather synchronise a Playlist from iTunes if I can.

How can I burn an audio CD in iTunes with my music library on an external drive?

I keep my entire music library on an external hard drive. I just tried to burn a playlist in iTunes, and iTunes goes through all of the motions (asks for a blank cd, says it's burning) and then it says "Finishing burning" for a while. Then iTunes tells me I have a blank CD in my computer.
I fear the issue is that the music is not on my computer. However, I've added all of the music folders to iTunes, and it plays them off of my external hard drive.

Great suggestion. I had quickly considered burning a disc outside of iTunes with Burnz only to learn that trial period had ended. So...thanks to your 2x4 blow to my head, I tried a Finder burn and got an error, too: The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media. Doing a big of research indicates this might be simply a dust problem in my MacBook and can be resolved with some compressed air. Checking my toolbox shortly and I'll report back! Thanks!

Everytime I connect my iPod Touch (4th Gen) to my laptop, running Win 7 (64 bit) I get the message "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes" I have reinstalled iTunes several times and it has not fixed the issue. I am running ver 10.2.2.12 of iTunes. I HAVE NOT installed any other burning software to my laptop either. I haven't tried uninstalling iTunes and then re-installing it yet. Would that perhaps fix the problem? I've read that many users have had issues with the new version of the software and I was wondering if that might be causing my issue. I'd like to point out that iTunes seems to work after getting rid of the message, but I haven't tried to burn any CDs or put music from a CD to my laptop. Any ideas on how to get rid of the annoying message?
I also am having trouble hooking up with our other computers using Homegroup. I noticed quite a lot of people are having the same issue and hopefully they come up with a fix for that soon.

If you're still getting the error message (especially when you plug in the Touch), I'd check for a device filter confusion on the PC. (They can affect the connection of USB devices to a PC, as well as burning and importing CDs.) For that one, see:

One other thread said it was fixed by waiting till prompted by iTunes to insert the blank disk, instead of putting it in first. Does that work? Found a number of hits on this Googling.

Can no longer burn an audio CD in iTunes 10.

Suddenly I can not burn an audio CD in iTunes. I currently have iTunes v. 10.7 which I have just upgraded from the previous version as I had the same problem burning a CD. I am using OSX v. 10.6.8. When burning a CD or DVD I always use my ex drive a Pioneer DVR-111D. I have never had any problems until recently. When I try to burn a playlist to CD I use the same settings that I have always used. Having selected BURN, the process shows as Initializing then starts to burn the first tune. Unfortunately, it hangs on the first tune and goes no further. I have tried various playlists and different CDs. Same problem However, when I burn the same playlist, using the same Pioneer DVR-111D to burn but using Toast 11.1 it works without a hitch.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Has nobody got any suggestions on what may be causing this problem. From searches I have made I see I am not the only one with the same burning issue.
