Burning Two playlist with 2 optical drives IS possible!!!!!

A few weeks ago I posted a question asking the benefits of a 2nd Optical Drive. I wanted to post the results of what I found. I added a Pioneer DVR-112B (Black). I removed the Bezel so that it would close properly and I removed the face plate to remove the open and close button. I replaced the face plate and intalled the drive. It works flawlessly and shows up as Apple supported and Shipped.
Now... I am able to burn a DVD, and a CD, I am able to watch a DVD, or listen to a CD while I'm burning.. AND I'm able to burn 2 Audio CD's AT the same time from iTunes. The last one was a suprise for me as it seems most people don't know how to do it. You CANNOT burn the SAME playlist at the same time..but you can burn a 2nd playlist while you burning the 1st one. If you know that you want two copies of a playlist.. then you should make a 2nd playlist of the same songs.
iTunes COULD handle 2 optical drives better but it doesn't.. You have to tell it which SuperDrive to use and it will only use that drive until you tell it to use the other (in preferences). This only applies to burning... They both will work for playing. You start the playlist that you want to burn on the default iTunes drive. Then... while it is burning.. you open the perference.. select the other optical drive in the Burning CD's tab. Insert the disc you want to burn, into the second drive...select the playlist you want to burn, click burn, Make sure you use the eject key or option eject to close the disc burner...and watch it burn the second playlist WHILE the first one is burning. I only wish that iTunes and the other iLife programs would Automatically pick the disc burner you wanted use. That would defintely be an improvement.
This was just to let everyone know.. that you can do this. I've seen a few people ask and no one has said it was possible.. but it is.

Sorry, forgive me but I don't understand what you're suggesting, do you mean in disk utility?
All I want is a program (preferably free) that asks for the drive of the source/original CD and the destination drive CD and it does the rest (copy/backup of CD) - without having to muck around making images etc. It was a 1 step process with free software for windows (Ulead burn.Now), I'm astounded Mac OS X doesn't have this feature as standard!?!? Or is the only option to buy more software?
Any answer appreciated

  • How can I burn to an external optic drive in Garage Band?

    I am a voice teacher. I record every lesson and burn it to a CD for my students. Since updating to the most recent iteration of Garage Band, it only allows for burning to the internal optic drive. My external drive is much faster and is situated in another room so that I can begin the next lesson. I'd like to be able to use it again for practical reasons. So, does Garage Band allow for native burning to an external drive and I just don't see it?

    Which version of GarageBand are you asking about?
    GarageBand '11 requires an internal optical drive, and the newest GarageBand 10.0 as well.
    Insert a recordable CD in your computer’s optical drive.Before burning, be sure your computer supports the recordable CD you are using. Only computers with disc-burning capability can be used to burn a song to a CD.
    Choose Share > “Burn Song to CD.”
    Added: It does not help, to share the song to iTunes and burn a playlist from iTunes, since iTunes requires an internal optical drive as well.

  • I want to transfer my song one mac to another mac, just one or two songs with rating it's possible?

    I want to transfer my song one mac to another mac, just one or two songs with rating it's possible?

    I am pretty sure the ratings are stored in the main library file itself, not attached to the media files unlike things such as artist and album.  They therefore don't transfer with you adding the file to a different library.
    Check Dougscripts and see if there is a script that helps with this.  One solution would be to perhaps temporarily borrow an unused tag field such as grouping and have Dougscript "place this in that" put a copy of the rating in that field, then transfer it to back to rating when you add it to a second library. I haven't done this but it might work.

  • What external dvd drive is compatible with IMAC with optical drive

    what external drive is compatiblee with IMAC with optical driv

    As far as my experience goes I have had all external dvd drives work throu USB, the USB stands for Universal Seriel Bus and that means the drives are already in the device, so you can probably just go to best buy or to new egg and order a cheap one.
    If you have usb 3.0 I would go with that since its one of the faster ones and you will save money on using a thunder bolt device, and trust me a $17 dvd player works just as good as a $120 dvd player.

  • OS Install on G4 with no optical drive? (possible over network?)

    Hello,
    My old G4, which is basically a headless server, needs an OS re-install (keeps crashing, needs a clean install). The problem is, the box is maxed out with hard drives and has no optical drive (broke a long time ago). My question is — how do I install the OS back onto it? Since I can't start up from CD, how else can I do it? Tried doing an install from a networked Powerbook (12" G4) but didn't seem to work? Just can't think of how to install it since there's no optical drive? Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

    Kristin--
    Easiest way would be to use your G4 in FireWire target disk mode and then install the OS on it using the optical drive in your PowerBook.
    Here's how. Shut down the G4 and connect it to your PowerBook with a FireWire cable. With your PowerBook already booted up, power up your G4 while holding down the 'T' key on the G4's keyboard until its hard drive mounts to your PowerBook's desktop. Once you've got that, just follow the usual installation steps and select the G4's hard drive as the destination disk to install the OS. That should do it. Here's more info on using FW target disk mode if you need it.

  • I am unable to burn CDs with songs recently purchased from itunes. No problem before. When I try to burn a playlist with new songs, I get the error message that "songs will not it on 1 audio CD". If I remove all songs except the new one, it will burn.

    I am unable to burn CD's with the last 4 songs I've purchased from the iTunes store. I can burn CD's from playlist using previously purchased songs with no problem. With a normal length playlist including 1 of the newly purchased songs, I get the message "songs will not fit on one CD". I can remove all but the new song and 1 other and the CD will burn. I have upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and still have the problem.

    I have that EXACT same problem! I have no idea what to do though, but it is very mucho frustrating. Let me know if you find out anything, and I will do the same.

  • Problem with optical drive

    Hello
    I backed up all my files onto a DVD. Then formatted and reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate. At first I could access the files on my DVD, now It says I must format the disk in drive D before I can use it. When I cancel, it says D:\ is not accessable. Data error (cyclic redundancy check)
    Thanks

    Hello again RicTech,
    I am glad to hear you were able to access the files. The only thing I can think of given what you have posted is to check to ensure that you have updated the optical drive drivers on your computer. To do this I would recommend running the HP Support Assistant to update all your HP drivers and ensuring that you have run all your Windows Updates as well.
    If you could re-post with the results it will  help others in the future that have the same issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Please Help-Problem with Optical Drive, it's a Mystery...

    Well I'm a fairly big Imogen Heap fan, and her new CD came out the 25th. So I went to Best Buy and I bought the deluxe version which includes a seperate disc with instrumentals. I got home, put it in, and my Mac made a "scratching" kind of noise, then it spit out the disc. I figured there was a problem with it, I went back to Best Buy, got a new one, and it did the exact same thing.
    HOWEVER, both of the instrumental discs worked just fine, and imported just fine. The normal audio disc also works on my Ubuntu computer, Windows computer, and my other Early 2009 Macbook Pro. I also restarted my Mac, cleaned the disc, and that did nothing.
    So, what's the problem do you think?
    (Also I went to Apple but there were no appointments available, and they were too busy to just look at it without an appointment )

    Hi Mate,
    I didn't do an OS install, I took it to an apple store and made a Genius Bar appointemnt. Explained the proble and after 15min conversation, they diagnosed it as teh following;
    The felt/rubber where you put the CD/DVD had gone hard and the friction is causing the CD/DVD to get stuck and be loaded. They tried to tell me that I need to replace the top case  (£140+VAT) as its in-built into it or I can use a £3 spudger to push the CD's in......needles to say the Spudger works fine.....Shame I wasted £100 on the new optical drive ;o( Maybe sell teh spare on eBay....Happy days!

  • Help required with optical drive issues on a 2008 Mac Book Pro

    I've got a problem with my Optical Drive not accepting CD, DVD etc. All the disks I put in just whirr around for a few seconds and then spit out the discs. First I've read on loads of discussion forums that the symptoms said the optical drive was capput, so I bought a new one and installed it using those very good guides by ifixit. Booted up the Mac Book Pro, all working as previously, put in a CD into the NEW optical drive....same result. So methinks this is some sort of software/config issue. Read a few more blogs/discussion and manged to get the optical drive to read my CD's when I put them in during boot up - works as it should, copies them to iTunes etc.....Ejected the CD put in another one.....back to the original problem.....disc whirrs around and get spat out after a few seconds.
    Anyone experienced this problem as well and found a resolution....

  • Are there any more iMacs with optical drives available in Apple stores?

    I want a computer that I can use DVDs with.  I have many and often order them so I will need to have an optical drive.  I don't want something that is not built in.  Are there any new left over inventory available of iMacs that previously had this feature?

    These > Refurbished iMac - Apple Store (U.S.) both have SuperDrives and carry the same warranty as a new iMac.

  • I have a problem with optical driver

    i have a desktop with internal internal disc driver and it doesn't read or recognize a dvd or cd. I cleaned using a laser  lens cleaner dvd and still doing sametinhg
    ejects DVDS. My desktop is 2006
    Hardware UUID:          00000000-0000-1000-8000-0016CB83C3E3. Can i replace the optical drver? please some advise . Thanks.

    Believe it or not, sometimes the optical drive issues are due to the PRAM battery getting low.  You are right at the age where it might make a difference.    Have an authorized service technician see if that makes a difference.  If it doesn't, then get an http://www.macsales.com/ optical drive for your machine.

  • Client side playlist with dynamicaly streamed items possible?

    Hey,
    is there a way to define a client side playlist like this:
    ns.play(      "stream1",      0,      30              );
    ns.play(      "stream2",      10,    -1, false      );
    ns.play( "     stream3",      0,      -1, false      );
    ns.play(      "stream4",      30,    120, false    );
    but instead of a single videofiles for each playlistentry use dynamic streaming?
    I know how the DynamicStream class is working and how to set it up but i can't find any information if it is possible to combined those two techniques.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Yes upto a certain extent you can achieve it, see below approach if it suits you. You can have playlist as xml file and each video tag will represent single item in playlist. So suppose you have xml file with video tags as below:
    <videoList vodurl="rtmp://localhost/myapp">
    <video>
                      <label>flv:stream</label>
                       <data>stream1,stream2,stream3</data>
                       <bitrate>100,200,350</bitrate>
    </video>
    <video>
                       <label>mp4:stream</label>
                        <data>mp4:stream1.mp4,mp4:stream2.mp4,mp4:stream3.mp4</data>
                        <bitrate>100,200,350</bitrate>
    </video>
    </videoList>
    Then you need to create dynamic stream item("dsi") as below for each video tag and create array of "dsi".
    var dsi:DynamicStreamItem = new DynamicStreamItem();
    dsi.addStream( "mp4:stream1.mp4", 100);
    dsi.addStream( "mp4:stream2.mp4", 200 );
    dsi.addStream( "mp4:stream3.mp4", 350 );
    ds.startPlay( dsi );
    Then iterate each item of array, while you are playing first item of array then based on netstatus messages like "NetStream.Play.Complete" you can decide to move on to next item in array. So in this way you can create client side playlist.
    Regards,
    Amit

    Thanks for the follow up.
    The matter of the sign in/trial version has happened to me from time to time with Premiere Elements (I worked with Windows). I supply
    the requested information and that usually takes care of that message for a long while.
    What is the status of the issue now with the MacBook Pro to iMac projects? Is that matter restricted to just one project from MacBook Pro to iMac?
    If so, on this particular one, did you try the Project Archiver/Copy Project workflow in MacBook Pro?
    As for the error message...I am not a Mac user, and consequently I am not sure I am interpreting the following correctly. But take a look to see if any of it applies

  • Cannot burn data dvd with super drive

    Hello together,
    i try to burn a dvd in my Mac mini with superdrive using the disk-utility.
    It is possible to delete a DVD +RW (fast or normal)
    It is not possible to set a new name for the disk
    It is not possible to burn the disk ("not enough space")
    I'm logged in as admin.
    What do i have to do else to burn a dvd?

    Quite cool + thanks a bunch!
    I still don't know (but for the moment: i don't care anyway ;-)) why it's not possible with the Disk utility, the "Help" sytem makes a lot ado about. Anyway, for the moment i'm happy again :-D
