Burning with Toast or how should I?

I know there's a simple answer to this but I dont know it
I want to burn data to a cdr then go back and add more data to that same cdr.
How can I do this.
I have Toast 7
I'm used to using EZCD's Direct CD drag to disk function and ultimately that's what I'd like to do on the Mac.
Thanks

I don't have Toast 7 but do have 6. 6 is supposed to have problems with 10.4 so don't go back. 7 should have session burning. A free app I use is called BurnX Free. You just drag items in BurnX Free's window check the box called "leave disk appendable" and click burn and it will allow future burns and it's free! You can find it at Macupdate.com or Versiontracker.com.

  • Building in DVDSP, Burning with Toast

If I build in DVDSP and burn with Toast will Toast also recognize the Opening Menus and Chapter Index Menu? or do I have to do something special? Thanks for the reply. Also just out of curiosity what does Toast do during the burn process that DVDSP doesn't?
    G5 single 1.8   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   2x 160GB HDs, 250GB ext. 2.75GB RAM

If you build the project in DVDSP then all you need to do in Toast is get it to burn the folders onto a UDF disc (Universal Disk Format). There are several ways to do this in Toast, depending on the version that you have got. Whichever way you choose shouldn't mean you need to change any menus or anything else - Toast can simply create a DVD from your VIDEO_TS folder, or it can use a disk image and burn that. You can also set it to create a UDV DVD-ROM and drop the Video and audio_TS folders into the wondow... none of these methods will alter the content of the folders.
Toast gives you the opportunity to burn at slower speeds than DVDSP. This is good, since a slower burn results in a more compatible DVD-R. However, there are those who regularly burn at the speed of light and don't get any issues, so let's hope more of us can get to that standard soon! The burn speed in DVDSP is calculated for you on the basis of the media capability and the writer speed... it will choose the maximum possible from the combination available.

  • Save an unencoded iDVD disc image to encode/burn with Toast?

    Hi:
I'm geting jittery image on playback (only in certain scenes) when I use iDVD to encode my disc. If I use Toast to encode and burn, there's no problem, using the same blanks and burner. I saw a post here from someone who said you can save a disc image from iDVD, but then have Toast encode it and burn it; in the help files it always says iDVD encodes its disc images. Any ideas, or any other suggestions as to the jittery playback on a few scenes?

It could be the DVD media you're using or player, etc. If you create a disk image and use DVD Player software to view it, that should be pretty much what to expect on DVD-R playing in a good quality DVD player.

This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Disk Utility to burn the DVD.
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (not the .img, the one below) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. Your SuperDrive tray will open. Insert a recordable DVD. (DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and Tiger.
b Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD 5 project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Imovie + garageband audio burn with toast?

    Hello all,
    I've been following this procedure:
    1) Place all video clips in iMovie HD
    2) process my voice over narrations with GarageBand (male narrator noisy)
    3) Put the GarageBand enhanced audio into iMovie
    4) Create the DVD with iDVD
My question is can I use Toast instead?
That is can I still burn the DVD with Toast with the audio that I processed in GarageBand?
Any help would be much appreciated!

you posted in the iMHD-section of this board.. which is vers 5 (five) of this app. answer differs on version of iMovie
    answer: yes.
after inserting the GB-audio into your iM-project, save it.
    quit iM.
    launch Toast, select videoDVD
    drag iM-project into Toast..

  • ITunes does not read audio track info from CD burned with Toast 10 Titanium

I cannot get iTunes on my Mac laptop to read the CD text that I type when I burn an audio disc on Toast 10.0.7. This is true, even though I choose the Toast option "Add CD Text." I have to re-enter the info into iTunes, duplicating the effort I put into naming the tracks and artists in Toast. Even after doing all this, however, the track icons within the disc icon on the desktop will not reflect the iTunes info. When I click ""Get Info" for the disc, its says "You can only read" under the "Sharing & Permissions" section. How can I fix this? Is this a Toast issue or a Mac/iTunes issue?

It is an iTunes issue. iTunes can write CD text when it burns a CD, but is not capable of reading CD Text from a CD.
If you want to see a list of ripping tools that can read CD Text, refer to this Wikipedia article. If you don't have time to read it, here is a summary: almost every ripping tool can read CD Text, except iTunes.

  • Aperture 3 with Nikon D90 - How should raw fine tuning look like?

I try to trouble shoot my Aperture 3 (trial) installation. I have some troubles with the raw fine tuning controls and after reading the manual (again) I noticed that the fine tuning controls I get for my D90 are different from the ones displayed in the manual.
I get boost, hue boost / sharpening, edges / moire, radius, noise-reduction sliders.
In the manual there is no noise-reduction slider, just a check box for Auto Noise Compensation.
I got that control in Aperture 2, but not in Aperture 3. Now I’m wondering if something went wrong with my Aperture 3 installation. That would explain the problems I have with raw fine tuning. But before I try a complete clean install of my Mac i would like to know if I get the right raw fine tuning controls in Aperture 3.
Does anybody use Aperture 3 and a Nikon D90 and could tell me how the raw fine tuning controls he gets in Aperture 3 look like?
    Thanks.

Greetings, First be sure you have your d7100 properly set to take maximum detail NEF images.
Go to your d7100 shooting menu and choose NEF (Raw) recording > Type
    Choose N Lossless Compressed
Then go to NEF (RAW) Recording > NEF (RAW) Bit depth
    Choose 14 bits
You were given good advice that you should not mess with the raw fine tuning brick in Aperture 3.6
Your d7100 has a default RAW import preset - make sure you have somehow not changed that Apple Aperture coded
raw fine tuning preset - this could make all your images far less sharp on import. You can easily revert to the Aperture 3.6 raw import brick default for the d7100 if you have somehow changed it by error. And always be sure to use your Aperture loupe or full screen viewer when applying any adjustment bricks.
Finally be sure that you understand the differences between the Sharpen adjustment and the Edge Sharpen adjustment. Both of these are very sensitive and very different sharpening tools. I do not shoot with a d7100, but use other Nikon FX DSLR's and I have never felt that any of my NEF imports lacked either Sharpness or Edge Sharpness given the Apple Aperture default raw image digital converters for each particular Nikon body. Good luck.

  • Discs burned with toast or finder fail to be recognized in PC

All the discs I have burned recently fail to open in PC - they are recognized by the Windows XP machine as blank CDs only.
Using Toast Titanium 6.1.1, tried various settings including iso 9660
Same problem with DVD-Rs on PCs as well. Will not play in Windows media player...
    Help appreciated!

I'm getting a bit confused as to what is going on and what you wish to accomplish. You want to run DW and repair files on the external drive? If that is the case, simply install DW on your internal and run it from there on the external.
Depending on the DW version, several of them have not been a bootable option or, if they actually were, not really usable as there was no easy way to reboot from your internal after having used DW.
Another way to use it is to install it and then make a fully bootable clone on an external drive/partition; you can then boot from that and run DW on the internal (or any other drive you may have).

  • A portion of audio that is synced in iMovie, is out of sync when burned with iDVD. How can I avoid this?

I'm trying to burn a simple movie, using iMovie and finishing in iDVD. A portion of the audio is out of sync when burned, despite it being in sync in iMovie. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hi
Try to - Save as a DiskImage - then test this with Apple DVD-tool.
Does this play OK - burn this DiskImage by using Disk Util tool.
Set down burn speed to x2 or 4

  • My iPods sound is iffy, for lack of a better word. At times it's fine, but most the time it doesn't work. The volume dials don't show up either. What's wrong with it and how should I fix it?

My friend said the speakers might be blown, but the sound still works at times. And I'm sure if he speakers were broken then the volume dials would show up as well. So I need help figuring out whys going on.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.
    Apple - iPod Repair price
A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.

  • How to burn dual layer iDVD image with Toast?

OK so I'm a bit of a Mac newbie, but I've bought some DVD+R DLs and tried to burn this project that's filled to the rim (7.7GB, 99 titles). OK, so there's encoding, right? But after that process (which you know takes FOREVER in my case), the MacBook pops the DVD out everytime without doing anything. It did not even burn a thing. So, I initially know about the "Save into DVD Image" option in the file menu and it's currently encoding. And as you may also know, there will definitely be a prompt stating that dual layered images aren't guaranteed to work. But I'm hopeless because I need this by Sunday March 9 (American time). Will anyone suggest a method of burning so that the image, when I dismount it, will work? Or rather, after burning with Toast which I have, make it work on a DVD player? I set the ratio to 4:3 just to fit all those titles and the brand of DVD+R DL I bought is, IMHO, a not-so popular brand in the US, nor in the Philippines, called Universal. But I don't think that this is a matter of brand choice by the MacBook's drive, though. Because it is read as a blank DVD disc, and that I have the various options dialog box thingy displayed.

I didn't have much luck in Roxio. Sigh. I guess this is gonna be a hit or miss situation.
But here's another question: If I put more "assets" into the other project I'm doing (because I'm gonna make the project encode in the background for the entirety of the day tomorrow since I'm out), will the encoding repeat?

  • How to burn with DVDSP

Hi chaps, you may have spotted my other post outlining my problems, I have still not resolved the burning with Toast problems but as an alternative I thought I'd try burning in DVDSP however when I hit the 'burn' icon a message appears " Formatting successful formatting finished" what am I doing wrong (forgive my ignorance, I have been handed this project and know very little about DVDSP) Regards and have good weekends Roger

you may have spotted my other post outlining my problems,< </div>
    Negative, not a clue.
A project that DVDSP interprets as already burned wither has no elements or has, in fact, been burned.
Try saving your project under a new name or making a duplicate of it at the Finder level. You want to maintain it s assets but you want to discard or at disassociate its MPEG and PAR files. You can do that a couple of different ways but the easiest might be to find them and place them in a trash before you launch DVDSP or, if you don't like that idea, copy the MPEG and other DVD encodes to a another drive and discard the originals.

    Hi,
In Receiver File Adapter you can set under 'Adapter-Specific Message Properties'
    check Use Adapter-Specific Message Properties
check Fail on Missing Adapter Message Properties
    Check File Name
Have a look at this link,  [File_to_File|http://allsapnetweavernotes.blogspot.com/2008/09/how-can-i-access-filename-from-fileftp.html]

  • Using LaCie dvd burner with fce hd

has anyone out there used a LaCie dvd burner with toast titanium 6.1.1 to burn fce hd project? the fce hd files(as a QT file ) contains 2 folders --the movie file along with an a-v 1 file(assuming this a media file) are boththese files to be dropped into the TOAST titanium drop window for burning? burning a dvd takes hours and i'm trying to save myself a lot of aggravation--thanks folks

This is not a Final Cut Express related topic. You're more likely to find LaCie DVD burner users on forums like iDVD and DVD Studio Pro.
