Burnt CDs won't play on all CD players

Either some or all tracks on a CD burnt on my eMac's SuperDrive will not play on some commercial CD players.

I use a Pioneer CMX-3000 Dj CD player at home and it won't play burnt CD's from my emac - 1.2MZ USB 1GIG Super Drive (which was the whole point of the emac in the first place so disappointing).
The Pioneer is a high end CD player that plays CD at 2 to 4 times the normal speed (allowing particular DJ functions because of it), but because of this is a bit picky about the quality of the burn CD itself.
I have tried five different brands of media (non of them cheap) different software (Toast/iTunes etc) different setting and burn speeds. No joy.
Oddly, I haven't been able to find a CD burnt in any other computer (I got my friends to burn a few - all using different media and software) and the CD player had no problem with those at all.
My suspicion is that the Super drive doesn't do a good job of burning CD's, and hence teh bad quality can't be played by some CD players.
haven't found much in the way of a solution so thinking of updating the super drive to a dual layer and possibly this might fix the problem (the Pioneer 109 seems popular).
Although, as don't know who made teh super drive taht;s in there at the moment, not sure if this is just going to be another waste of money?

  • ITunes Burns but CDs won't play - why?

Using Leopard, I burn a playlist in iTunes to CD. CD finishes and song tracks are visible, but CDs won't play either in CD player or computer. Why? This just started a few weeks ago. Have burned successfully many times before. Have "Audio CD" selected in preferences, etc. Can anyone help? Thanks a million.

I'm having the same trouble. Used to burn just fine until a little while ago. Now, it just hangs up iTunes in an eternal burn cycle. I try to force quit again & again & again but iTunes just sits there, with the blank disc whirring and spinning inside my machine. Cannot force quit so I have to restart just to quit iTunes. When the CD shows up on desktop (and in iTunes) after restart it looks like a normal, properly burned CD, complete with song titles. But when I play it, it's just erratic digital noise.

    Hi,
As you have match, I suggest that you create a new library by holding ctrl whist launching iTunes. Select create new library. Sign into iTunes Store and activate match. You will now have access to your music and will be able to stream your music.
Options : get a new external drive formatted for mac and either download music from match or copy music from old drive to new one. Alternatively you could reformat old drive and download music from match - I would not be comfortable using this option as it means erasing drive before being able to use with mac.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken tracks only from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If you don't see them straight away it may help to restart iTunes. While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Is There A Way To Make It Play On All DVD Players?

Hey my friend told me with DVD Studio Pro that you can make it so it plays on all dvd players now so that even ones before who wouldnt be able to play a burnt dvd will play them. Is this true or will it only be for players that have that feature for DVD R-?

If you go to Replication you have a chance your disc will play on all players as it will be DVD-Video but if you burn the disc and send it out to whoever is going to see it, it'll be DVD±R (DL) therefore the disc will be recordable media.
The basic concept to understand is that the discs you buy from a store (a la a feature film) are not the same as the discs you burn. The discs you burn are not 100% compatible but can be easily made more or less compatible if you don't know what you're doing.
Of course, as mentioned, if only 100 users will see your disc the chances are your disc will play fine for all 100 people are much higher than they used to be...

  • Imovie iDVD finished but DVD does not Play in ALL DVD players?

I have made several DVD movies over the years and sometimes when i go from imovie> idvd> finished DVD
    1. it does not play in ALL dvd players? why?
    2. or sometimes plays in some DVD players?
    3. sometimes plays in computer( apple) dvd but not always?
Is there something i have to due before, after or during rendering so that the finished DVD plays in all DVD players
    thanks

    Hi
*I do put paper labes on discs --*
NEVER DO THAT - The ability to get them perfectly centered is near to impossibly
DVDs are many tims more sencitive to missaligmement by 1/100 or 1/1000 of a millimeter.
CDs often can handle this - but still not advicably.
    I do.
    • Use only Verbatim (Taiyo Yuden - also recommended by many - no own experience)
    • DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    • Burn at an as slow speed possibly eg x1 with iDVD08 or higher or Roxio Toast™
    or Apple Disk Util tool
    • NEVER under 25Gb free space on internal boot hard disk (others not important)
    • I use a Cleaning-DVD from time to time
    • I burn max 3 DVD at a time then cool for 20min
    • I use the Cleaning DVD on my other players as well
    On Quality.
    *DVD quality*
    1. iDVD 8 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2. From
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not selfcontaining, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 this can also be set)
This can also be done with (Apple) Disk Util tool.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while befor next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on:
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JESDeinterlacer3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS: They are plabacked by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD08
    Pro Quality (only in iDVD08)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choise)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD08
    2. Project info: Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD08.
    Region codes:
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes:
    1 = US
    2 = EU

  • Burned CDs won't play on portable player

My friend who has a PC has been burning CDs for me of spoken-word MP3s. They play fine on my portable CD player. Recently she gave me a USB drive with a bunch of MP3s for me to burn myself on my new MacBook Pro. The CDs I burned won't play on the CD player (but they will play in iTunes on my computer). I don't understand what's going on...can anyone help out? Thanks.

Yes, if your interest is only in burning CDs and you don't want to keep the music in iTunes, the process is pretty cumbersome. You may want to buy a disc burning application like Toast, which can burn all sorts of formats without your needing to import anything into iTunes.

  • Burned CDs won't play after updating to 6.0

After updating to 6.0 and 6.01 the CDs I burn won't play in my car stereo. This was never a problem prior to the updates.
I double checked everything I could think of and am burning them to CD-Rs and have audio CD selected on my burning preferences. I have even tried using several different brands of CD and using a slower burning speed.
    Any ideas?

absolutely nothing. All the controls are normal. When i try to double click a track to play it just highlights the track. When i use the play button, it operates but no track plays. Even in purchased tracks it won't play! There are one or two tracks that will play normally but they are random ones. Have tried the suggestion that are recommended but with no success.

  • CDs I burn on my Mac won't play on other CD players

When I burn a CD on my mac it plays back fine on the computer but when I try to play it back on any external player there is no sound. All the files were in aiff format before I burnt them. Other Mac owners tell me they have no problem playing theirs on other players. What am I doing wrong?

I found out what my problem was. I was burning tunes that I imported from old records through "Final Vinyl", directly by putting the music files into the trash, rather than through iTunes. Even though the files are in aiff format as well, they will then be burnt in a data format which is not readable in regular CD players. when I burned them through iTunes all was well.

  • Songs won't play through all the way

I just bought some songs from the itunes store yesterday and some of them won't play all the way through the song on my itunes or my ipod. How can I get my itunes and my ipod to play the whole song without having to rebuy the songs?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    ipconfig /flushdns
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
Now try your download music again.

  • Burnt CD won't play

Music that I have purchased on iTunes won't play after being burnt to CD-R.  The disc will not play in any player....ie car or stereo.  However, it does play on the computer.  I have tried several different playlists and several different brands of CD-R and still nothing.  This is strange because I have burnt CD's in the past that play fine.  They are being burned as a audio disk, I have tried different speeds and I have tried two different computers.  Any solutions????

I found the solution to this issue. I tried a different make of CD-R and it works fine. My guess the drivers were different between to two operating systems and that was the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • IMovie 9 - Video is edited, shows the project clips, but won't play at all? Please Help

So i've finished all the editing on my project, But now it won't play. The clips show on the project reel (left side) but doesn't show the video in the viewer on the right side. Space bar just sent the red tracking bar back to the beginning but won't play. Hitting the play button makes nothing happen, and playing full screen doesn't play the video either.

  • I clicked "locate" when prompted, now the track won't play at all even from the hard drive though it's listed in iTunes. Can anyone help?

I was prompted to "locate" a track, clicked yes, and now the track won't play no matter where I play it from. I've put it on the desktop, added it to library, tried everything - is there an equivalent "reconnect media" function like in Final Cut Pro? I'd be grateful for any help thanks

Will it play in Quicktime player?  If not it may be corrupt and will have to be reloaded from the original source.

  • TS2180 DVDs won't play in regular DVD players iDVD burns with no errors the DVDs always get out into a folder ???

Dear Apple friends The iDVD burns DVDs with-out any error messages but DVDs dont play in regular DVD players I notice that the DVD burns to a folder and there is no setting to prevent this How do you burn the DVD with-out it getting put into a folder ??? Thanks Mike

That often is a result of using inferior DVD disks and burning at too high a speed.  What brand and type of disk did you use and what speed did you burn at?
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • 7.6.2-burned mp3 CDs won't play in players that 7.5-burned versions did

I have discovered yet another beef with iTunes 7.6.2... does anyone else have this problem?
mp3 CDs burned in iTunes 7.6.2 on my Intel iMac will not play in my car player, while identical mp3 CDs burned in itunes 7.5x on my iBook G4 WILL play in my car player (too bad my main library is on the iMac). The 7.6.2-burned CD's will play in my son's new car player, but not mine, which is a couple years older.
What the heck??? Is there some hidden change that now mp3 CDs burned in the newest iTunes will only play in some kinds of players, whether or not the players are all marked as mp3 compatible?
What does anyone know about this issue?
Because i have to decide whether to buy a new car stereo, or deinstall 7.6.2 and go back to some earlier version (i really don't like to navigate iPod menus while driving, i prefer CDs, so using an iPod instead isn't a good solution for me). or is it the intel iMac that is causing the problem? It doesn't matter what burner or user account i use- i tried an external burner, and i tried another user account. The burned files are identical, they aren't an issue.
I am in OS 10.4.11 on the iMac and 10.4.7 on the iBook, if that makes any difference (frankly, i'm afraid to upgrade the iBook to newest versions at this point).

    Just on a hunch.
Pop one of your 7.6.2 burned MP3 disks in a computer and check if the music is nested in folder by the Artist and Album. Then do the same with one of your older burned disks.
Some older units will not accept MP3 disks with the media grouped in folders. I found this to be the case on a couple of MP3 capable machines that are just a few years old.
My current version of iTunes (7.7 needed for the iPhone v2) seems to only burn MP3 files nested in folders. I found a machine that had not been updated and was still running iTunes 7.0.2 and burned an MP3 disc with all the files numbered and in the root of the disc.
Also, make some older MP3 units do not like the variable bit rate and may also be choosy about the bit rate is. ie 128 vs 160 vs 320
