Burnt LED line in my LCD screen

I have a burnt led line in my LCD screen on my Mid 2011 MacBook Pro, I found a place that sells the part (I understand Apple does not sell such at the Apple Stores in the US). My question to the community is, if I purchase the replacement LCD screen, can I take it to an Apple Store and pay for them to replace it?
Thank you in advance,
Franklin

The mercury you are talking about is actually found in the backlight... not the display itself (and in very small quantities). You would pretty much have to smash the display in order to damage the fluorescent light behind it. Most newer notebooks use LED backlighting which does not contain mercury.

  • My lcd screen have a thin horizontal line

i bought my MCP two weeks ago, and today i was using i movie, and i was doing this render and from one moment to another this thin line appears in my lcd screen, its like gray, im not sure whats wrong? i alfready restart the computer ans it still in there, and its goes through all left to right in my computer the size its like a pixel i think so, can somebody help me?

sounds like a row of dead pixels, you might be able to massage the edge of the screen around the line and get it to start working
also you should be able to call apple and get the screen replaced

  • Differences in LED and LCD screen

I would like to know if anyone can actually tell the difference between the LED screen on the 15 macbook pro and the LCD screen on the 17 macbook pro.
I know Apple says there is no difference in brightness or contrast between the two. I believe they only claim there is a difference in battery life. That said even their VERY optimistic numbers show only a 15 minute difference between the two (figure in the real world that may be 10 minutes)
I thought someone had told me there was a very noticeable difference in both brightness and contrast of the LED screen (that it was very noticeably superior)
I can only take two things from this. Either:
1.) It is a placebo effect because they EXPECT the 15" to look better . . .
    or
2.) Apple does not want to openly say the 17" screen is not as nice as the 15"
I have note been able to see either, but I am going to purchase this week online and this is a very important factor for me. Can someone please shed some light or opinion on the subject? Does the 15 look better than the 17? When they say LED will last "longer" than LCD, do they mean the half-life of the bulb is longer? etc.
    Thanks everyone,

Sorry I never know how to refer to the difference between the two. So the different backlighting does help with color, but overall brightness and contrast are not effected?
I have a Macbook and occasionally I have trouble reading it (When my eyes are tired) so I am looking for the brightest screen with the most contrast. I would prefer a larger screen (17) over a smaller one (15) all else being equal, but if there is any contrast or brightness increase in the switch to LED then I am more than happy to give up a little size for it.
It also looks like the 17" may have a slightly higher dpi in it's standard resolution (WAAAY more in the HD res)
Have you had the opportunity to view these screens side by side?
You mentioned that an cfl bulb burns out faster than an LED, I know this is many many years for each, but I would like to know if this will delay the screens "brightness" dropping over time. My macbook is about 18 months old and there has been some drop off in total brightness the screen can produce.

  • 40 inch Samsung LCD White Horizontal lines running up the screen constantly

My brand new Samsung 40 inch tv (purchased in mid-December) has white horizontal lines running up the screen constantly.  From what I heard, the electricity in my house my not be grounded, but no other tv in my house does this, so I doubt this is the case.  Has anybody else had this issue and is it too late to return the tv?  Thanks.

Does it do it on other sources like a DVD?  If so you may have a TV problem. Have you tried to do a factory reset or restore? Have you tried plugging it into an outlet in a different part of the house? As a last resort have you tried taking it back to the store and see if it works there? Also have you tried a filter on the AC plud in? Just some suggestions to try and help you out.

  • What kind of LCD screen is the MBP display?

I have a 2007 Santa Rosa Macbook Pro. I'm curious what kind of LCD screen the display is. I know TN is the worst, and something like ISPS is better...

The screens in the MBP are provided by one of three manufacturers: Samsung, LG, and Chimei. Although there is a host of debate about which is the best between Samsung and LG, everyone agrees that Chimei screens are the worst.
The Samsung panels tend to be more "vivid" compared to the LG screens (although you'll only notice this difference if you compare the two side by side.) The LG screens tend to be less susceptible to "yellowing." If you get a good, defect-free Samsung panel you hit the jackpot. It's the best of the three.
To find out which one you have, go to System Preferences > Displays > Color > Open Color Profile and scroll down to line 13. Post the code next to "Manufacturer Code." (It should be something like 0000009c68.) Bring it back here and someone will be able to tell you what screen you have.
Of course, unrelated to the screen, the Santa Rosa MacBook Pro was the first to introduce LED backlighting.

  • Crack in inner LCD screen of iPhone 4 or not?

Yesterday, I suddenly realized that there was a small clump of red, green and black lines appearing on the top left hand corner of my iPhone screen (near to the receptioon signal). When I went to the Apple Service Centre, I was told that there was a crack in the inner LCD screen which led to it. He even pointed that the fine green line is an indication of a cracked LCD and it will only get worse in the long run. However, over yesterday's night and today, this "clump" has started to slowly disappeared and now it is totally gone. I am totally confused? Is it a cracked LCD or some weird problem? Is there anyone who can shed some light on what is going on? Although I'm happy that it is gone and things seems to return to normal.

I think that it would be impossible for anyone on this forum to render an intelligent opinion without seeing your phone.

  • Is there any adapter vom macmini thunderbolt to LCD-Screen with VGA

I have just bought a macmini with thunderbolt and I have a LCD-Screen with VGA-connection. Is there any adapter to connect the screen with the mac??

The Thunderbolt connection is also a Mini-Display port connection, therefore  you need a Mini-Display port to VGA adapter. Apple sells them on their on-line store.

  • Dead LCD screen

I have a HP G72 laptop, 17.3 inch screen. Display went dead after 3 months. It started flickering and went completely white. I noticed a spot on lower left side appear in the display. Sent the unit for repair to HP, and they returned it back claiming that this is a user damage. After pushing on the bezel, the LCD started working, except there was a line of dead pixel. Now two months later, it went completely dead. I am positive that the LCD cable from display to MB is bad based on the way it died.
Called HP again, and they refused to even look at it. Asked me to pay $400 for repair. This is pathetic. Even their own tech over the phone said the spot is due to LCD ink spill, and not something external, yet refuse to honor their warranty.
Where is HP care, or should it be HP Don't give a **bleep**!
I am really disappointed with HP. Their support people think, the 5 minutes their tech spent to look at the system are words in stone worth lot more than my hard earned $600.
If anyone from HP actually read this forum, need help to escalate this issue, so it can be fixed. Laptop is only 6 months old.

I remember one of your posts couple of months ago which said your daughter wiped LCD screen with moist tissue. Any user damage is not covered by warranty provided by HP.

  • [HELP] Changing LCD screens on a S55 B5280 Laptop for a higher resolution one

    Hi!
I was wondering if there's any LCD screen that i can buy to replace the one that comes with the Toshiba  S55 B5280, that can provide a higher resolution. It would be the first time that i've changed a LCD screen for one capable of more resolution.
Can someone help me on the subject? I don't need any "how-to" to do it, i just need to know which models that provide a higher resolution than 1366x768 are fully compatible with this particular laptop.
    Thanks in advance.

ArchLinux is designed to run whether in VirtualBox or on a real machine.
If you have a TV connector plugged in it will chop some regular lines at the bottom to make up for the difference in TV resolution.
There are a couple of packages related to nvidia hardware, nouveau is one of them.  Just do a pacman -Ss nvidia for possibilities of things you might need to install.  Your nvidia hardware is a little newer, so probably nvidia is the package you'll need instead of nouveau.
Are you using X?  When you install the proper xf86-video-* driver it shouldn't have any problems with X.  If modesetting is turned off, then some resolutions may not be made available (especially in Gnome), so it is best to keep it turned on if at all possible (kernel default).

  • IMAC G5 LCD screen

I am on my third LCD screen and I am presently waiting for another LCD screen which of course is back ordered. I have been told that this is NOT a common problem. I have approx 100 colored lines on my screen at this time. Has anyone had any success with a replaced LCD screen ? Or how many screens does one have to go through before Apple replaces the computer??????? From all the complaints it sounds like there is a big problem with the G5. I purchased mine in Dec 2005.....they came out with the new one a few months later.

  • Solid black line on HP tablet screen

I just got this HP stream 7 5709. So far so good except there is a horizontal black line just across the screen. I first thought it is the screen protector, but now I begin to think it is in the display itself. Is this known?Attached the image here. Thanks

  • T400 LCD screen is very dim, but icon lights for HDD, etc. are working

Hi - I'm wondering if anyone knows what the issue with my T-400 would be if the LCD screen is very dim.  Details include:
    - When I boot up, there's a faint outline of what is going on, but barely noticeable since the whole screen is very, very dim
    - Video card is working okay, because I can operate the laptop when I plug in an external monitor
    - The icon lights for HDD, power, battery, etc. are still working
Thanks so much for the help.

First a question: Is it a CCFL backlight or LED? If it is a CCFL, it could be just the inverter, which is a lot cheaper than the panel. If the CCFL bulb goes out, usually (but not always) there is a red tint to the screen for a while first. The LED backlights are less likely to blow and there is no inverter. (The LED backlight is DC and the inverter convers the DC to AC to drive the CCFL bulb) Do you know which kind of backlight you have? If you don't know, send me your full model and serial in a pm and I'll look it up. Don't post it in the open forum. Also, what were you doing when it went out? Were you doing anything except normal work, like taking something apart or hooking something up?

  • Satellite L200: Why LCD freezes and lines in the LCD appear while charging?

    Hi!
I'm new here and ive got some problems with my L200. Everytime i charge my laptop while using it my LCD monitor freezes and there's a bit of running lines that appear in the monitor.
The only way that i can use it is to disconnect the charger and run it thru the use of a fully charged battery.
I just want to ask if theres a problem with my LCD or with the adaptor charger?
    Thank you so much!

Everytime i inserted the adaptor it turns off and sometimes it freezes the whole screen and apparently some vertical lines appear on the screen. It's been two weeks and im using it right now thru a fully charged battery. Thank you so much for the reply.
