Burrito Mobile Apps Extremely Slow

I just deployed a simple little app, built with Adobe Burrito. it has a list view for locations and a map view for Google maps. You touch a location in the list and it displays your location (obtained via GPS) and the selected location. Simple. Yet, it deploys as a 650K app and runs like tortoise in quicksand. And, I'm on a HTC Evo, which has a snapdragon processor.
First, seems like the deployed apk is way to big, and second, it's an embarrasment in terms of performance when compared with other apps. The painting of the map is like watching a 300 baud modem display an old telnet session.
I hope Adobe plans to make big improvements or this is going nowhere in the arena of mobile app development.
Ron Grimes

Certainly. I would be glad to share the specifics. I have the following classes:
     StationLocator (MXML class):         1,627 bytes
     Views
     StationLocatorHome (MXML class):     2,597 bytes
     MapView (MXML class):                4,789 bytes
     Supporting Classes
     Location (AS3 class):                4,132 bytes
     GeographyEvent (AS3 class):            349 bytes
     GeographyWSAO (AS3 class):           5,641 bytes
     3rd Party Components
          map_flex_1_20.swc                   90,278 bytes
Of course, when you generate a new Mobile App project, it creates the StationLocator and StationLocatorHome MXML classes, based on your project name. So, I have those two MXML classes, plus a MapView class for Google maps. The rest are AS3 classes, along with the Google mapping component.
I've tried deploying it both with the Framework linkage set to "Merged into code" and "Runtime shared library(RSL)". Both perform basically the same. Lousy!
I'm going to re-do this project in Eclipse Java environment with the Android plug-in and SDK, and see how that performs.

  • JSF app extremely slow - too many ActionListeners?

I'm working on my first JSF app; my assignment is to prepare the next version of an existing app. Currently my testers are complaining that the app is extremely slow. I have observed that page loading takes a very long time; although it isn't nearly so sluggish on my local box (which of course gets bounced more frequently).
The env is JSF RI 1.1.0 (or 1.1_01, we tried both) running in Sun JES 8.2. Stepping through the debugger I have noticed that the LifecyleImpl maintains a list of ActionListeners. It seems that when the pages, which indirectly extend FacesBean, and have request scope, are constructed they are added to this list, and in the RenderResponsePhase are removed (in the FacesBean afterPhase() method).
However I am seeing this list growing very large (several hundred listeners), with multiple instances of the same classes. Is this normal/to be expected? It seems that this could be causing a performance drain with the number of times this list is iterated over. What could be causing the removePhaseListener() call to be skipped? What potential harm could be caused if I were to replace the LifecycleImpl with one that in removePhaseListener() removed all listeners of the specified class (rather than just the specified instance).
I appreciate any clues to what is happening, and how to properly correct it.

Are you using creator to build your application? No I'm not, but the original team did. So we are dependent on the jsfcl jar.
Actually, further investigation has revealed at least a part of the problem. And I have to (shamefacedly) admit that I am guilty of poor class structure. The application has a base page class that derives from FacesBean, and provides access to a number of things used throughout the app. I have a utility class that as a convenience extends the base page class in order to take advantage of those objects. But now that I have (at least a rudimentary) grasp on how the PhaseListeners get registered and deregistered, i see that this class will get registered every time one is constructed for use by an actual page. But since it is not itself a real page, it will not get deregistered.
My task for today is to refactor that class the way it should have been done in the first place. Then I'll connect to the app to see what other objects are hanging around in the listener list and see if they are also using improper inheritance.
    Thanks

  • Contacts app extremely slow switching between groups

After upgrading to Mavericks, my Contacts app is extremely slow loading contacts when switching between groups. Clicking on a group causes the beach ball to appear, and only after several about 10 seconds does the contacts in that group load. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

I had the same issue as you did -- for a few weeks now I've been suffering through agonizingly slow Contacts performance.
The way I resolved it was:
    1) Quit Contacts
    2) Go to system preferences and go into iCloud, then uncheck contacts -- choosing to delete from mac.
    3) Go into system preferences and to Internet Accounts and again uncheck contacts under any of the accounts it's enabled on (gmail, yahoo, etc).
    4) Go to your user's library folder (easiest way is to open a finder window, hold down the option key on the keyboard and from the Go menu, select Library).
    5) Delete anything referring to Address book or com.apple.address book....   -- check these folders in particular:
         - Address Book
         - Application Support
         - Caches
         - Preferences
    6) Restart your computer
    7) Go back into System preferences and enable contacts from wherever you want (iCloud, etc.)
    8) If it's not quite enabling (appears to enable, but checkbox doesn't show), then do one more restart of the computer.
    9) Now open Contacts and allow it to sync

  • IWork apps extremely slow to load unless I disable internet connection?

Launching any of the iWork apps is extremely slow (30 to 45 seconds) on brand new current model 21" iMac running Snow Leopard. When you check activity monitor the app usually shows not responding for most of the 30 to 45 seconds then eventually it responds and loads.
However, if I remove the ethernet cable from the iMac (turning off access to the inernet) all the apps launch almost instantly, no more than a 2 seconds.
We have a very slow DSL at the school so I suspect that the iWorks apps are checking something on the internet during launch but I cannot find anything in the settings that I can turn off to prevent whatever it is these apps are checking during launch.
I am hoping someone has seen this before and has a suggestion as the only work around is removing the ethernet, launching Pages or Numbers and then plugging the ethernet back in.
    Dennis

Check if Pages is trying to open a template from another computer. Easiest would be just to in Pages preferences > Use template > Choose button > make sure you select an template on this computer. If it is trying to open one on another which it can't connect to it would take time.

  • Mobile data extremely slow after iOS update 8.1.3

After I updated to iOS 8.1.3, my data speed works like at 2G speed. My phone says its still has LTE, but it's definitely not. Even when I turn off the LTE, and my phone is connected to 3G, it's still incredibly slow. I've also tried restoring the phone, turning on and off data roaming, and of course restarting my phone countless times. I have net10, which runs on AT&T towers in my area. I used to have iOS 8.1.2 before I updated. I'm preety tech savvy, but I haven't been able to fix this. It's extremely annoying and frustrating to have such slow internet since I'm away from wifi for most of the day. Any help?

So I called Net10 today and this time the customer representive that I spoke to knew what to do. They basically ended up resetting my data connection and it was good to go afterwards.

  • Converting Burrito Flex Mobile App to Desktop

Hi Guys!  Have just developed an app for Android using Burrito.  It works nicely on a phone but it is also great as a little 'widget like' desktop app.
Is there any way to package it so that it may be distributed as an Air app that runs exactly like it does when run in emulation mode (adl) from Flash Builder?  If not, what is the simplest path to convert the <mobileApplication> to a <windowedApplication>?
    Thanks,
    Richard
Update:  Surprised no one has answered this.  I am new to Flash Builder and I figured you guys would know.  Have been looking at viewstacks in standard Air apps and trying to figure how to use this to achieve the same effect as a mobile app.  Looks like quite a lot of work to rewrite the app to Air on the Desktop ... is there an easier route .... anyone?

    Hi Richard,
I was able to complile and deploy my Android app using command line air/android packaging and adding required air swc's to my project. I used the following packageApplication.bat(downloaded from livedocs) to package my MobileApplication as both an air app and android:
    :: AIR application packaging

    goto end
    :certificate
    echo Certificate not found: %CERTIFICATE%
    echo.
    echo Troubleshotting:
echo A certificate is required, generate one using 'CreateCertificate.bat'
    echo.
    goto end
    :failed
    echo AIR setup creation FAILED.
    echo.
    echo Troubleshotting:

    echo.
    :failed2
    echo Android install FAILED.
    echo.
    :end
    pause
    //END BATCH FILE
I then did a diff between a Flex Buritto Moblie/AIR project library swc's included and identified swc included in AIR and missing in mobile. I updated the project libraries by adding the following swc's:
    sparkskins.swc
    utilities.swc
    aircore.swc
    airframework.swc
    airspark.swc
    applicationupdater.swc
    applicationupdater_ui.swc
Then performed a clean build and ran packageApplication from my bin-debug dir and was successfully able to install and run the mobile application on the desktop :-).
Being new to supporting mobile phones, tablets, TV screens along with our web and desktop clients I am not yet sure how we will structure our projects and get maximum code reuse and UI consistancy across these form factors. I have already created a common library project containing all remote stubs, value objects and common utilities and am still trying to figure out how much mileage I can get out of my mobile views. I like the View Navigator and ActionBar navigation on all screens we support and am thinking to extend the ViewNavigator and add additional states along with the 'portrait' and 'landscape' currently offered, like 'portraitPhone', 'portraitTablet', 'portraitTV', 'portraitPC' and leverage my existing mobile views to use these states to adjust the UI layout to accomodate the new realestate... but still learning...
    Hope that helps!
    Cheers,
    Greg

  • Built-in Youtube apps is extremely slow!

I have a 3GS and it is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi. There is no problem with the speed in terms of kbps. I used the built-in Youtube apps to search for videos and it is extremely slow. SLOW LOADING. On the other hand, using safari to 'youtube' is much more faster. What is the problem with the built-in Youtube apps?

    You are incorrect.
YouTube is not transcoding the video on the fly.
To the original poster- I have noticed this also.
Search through google or YouTube in safari-quick.
Search through YouTube app-very slow, if it does not throw up can't connect error.
This is something that recently started.

  • Firefox loads the app but is extremely slow

I always used Firefox as my browser to run an app (rock you game) on facebook without any problems. For 3-4 weeks it has been extremely slow, the page loads but very slowly, and then every "mouse click" takes at least 30 seconds to respond and execute. Sometimes it just blocks and I have to reload. I tested it on Google Chrome, and it works perfectly fine. I already cleared my cookies, updated my plug ins, did reset, and even re-installed Firefox. Nothing seems to work. Can you please help me? Thanks

  • Extremely slow address completion in Mail.app and general systems freeze

    Hello all,
Since the middle of last week I suddenly experienced
a extreme slow down of Mail.app address completion,
it take about a minute to type/complete an address even
whenever the completion option is checked in the preferences.
Then Mail.app use nearly all system disk ressources: 'ls' in a terminal
takes forever to complete, safari stops responding, etc... my Mac
is unusable. I got into situation where i couldn't force-quit
or ps/kill -9 any process,... reminiscent of a PC nightmare.
In addition some mail messages are painfully slow to display,
the problem seems to occur on some specific messages and does
not go away when completion is disabled.
This happens it seems, but I am not 100% sure, after I recieved
mails with with strange accentuated charaters and ';' in some
    CC addresses.
I go the zombie AddressBookSync problem described
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8380028
starting addressbook then Mail.app as suggested by on user
solved the zombie problem, but not the completion problem
and the system is still somewhat slugish. I got a 4GB 2.4Ghz
imac. Neither my mail nor any disk item substancially increased
    last week.
Now there is something strange. I tryed to remove putative
faulty addresse from previous recipient list with
'windows -> previous recipient' but the list is empty, yet
Mail.app does complete the addresses I type! (although it
does it at nerve breaking turtle speed), where are the
    completed addresses taken from???
Has any one experience this problem? Any idea?
    Thank

  • My macbook pro (late 2011) is extreme slow, freezing, crashing and lagging too often.

I am new to the forum, I hope this is the good topic to post my problem.
I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro, and it is getting slower and slower. The performance was bad with Mavericks as well, but now, with Yosemite installed, it is much more worse. I have never reinstalled my system (only upgraded the osx), so it is an almost 3 years old setup. In that time I have installed a lot of applications, and also deleted a lot. About a year ago I upgraded the RAM, but didn't help too much. Now with Yosemite my startup time is more than 5 minutes, and sometimes the startup freezes (and I have to push the power button long to retry). Safari with 5-10 tabs is extreme slow, and lagging when I switch tabs or open new ones. To launch a new app, for example skype, i have to wait 1-2 minutes. Everything is slow. Sometimes my finder crashes, and works only if I restart the macbook. Another example: if I open the downloads folder in Finder, I have the spinning loading icon for about 20-30 seconds, and just after this time can I see the content of the folder.
My console is full of errors, I get new records in every single seconds. I repaired the disk permissions, deleted safari cache, history, etc. but nothing helped.
Many people here attached an "etrecheck" record for their threads, I downloaded the app, and made one scan, you can see my results here, I hope someone with more technical skills can help me!
    Thank you in advance!

      Dec 11, 2014, 12:04:08 PM Self test - passed

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • IMac CPU3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB, Extremely slow and repeatedly "out of Memory" since migration from Mountain Lion to Mavericks

    Dear Apple Support Community.
As mentioned by a number of users reporting the same problem, my 2009 iMac CPU3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM, has become extremely slow and repeatedly "out of Memory" since it was migrated from Mountain Lion to Mavericks (OS 10.9 then OS 10.9.1).
I have already run CleanMyMac, deleted 5GB of useless stuffs, which did not translate into any improvement. Following the advices collected in other Apple Support Community threads, I have applied EtreCheck the outcome of which is provided below.
For information, I have also upgraded my 2011 MacBook CPU2.3 GHz Core i7, 8GB which became only a bit slower than before, sometimes freezing which it almost never did before. However, I am used to the fact that Mac get usually slower and more prompt fo freeze after upgrading to a more recent OS.
Both my 2009 iMac and my 2011 MacBook have F-Secure installed. So the problem with the 2009 IMac is unlikly to be due to the presence of F-Secure. Interestingly, the few abnormalities found by Etrecheck were exacly identical before I ran CleanMyMac. There are two more findings (mentioned below) since I ran CleanMyMac on the 2009 iMac, which again didn't improve the problem.
So please find below the details of the EtreCheck experience and some additional measurements made with iStat while running EtreCheck:

    Practically:
The iMac can work slowly with only one software e.g. either Mail or Safari or Firefox, but still the below "out of Memory" message occurs about every 3 minutes.
Aperture has becomre to slow to be useable
If trying to write a mail (with Mail) while Safari or Firefox is open, then the "out of Memory" message occurs about every 20 seconds so I need to check on "Resume" several times per minute.
    Conclusions
From the above, unless anyone in the Apple Support Community proves to be able to identify a specific problem leading to a way to find a cure, I tend to conclude that Mavericks is not suitable for computers operating with a Core 2 Duo CPU even with a 8GB of RAM.
Unless I missed something, I did not see any warning from Apple Computer Inc. informing their customers they should refrain from upgrading Core 2 Duo Computers.
The only solution I see so far is to downgrade from Mavericks to Mountain Lion. And the Apple Support Community would confirm that it is the only solution, I would appreciate to get your guidance on how to proceed.
    Intended action plan
Migrate the above 2009 iMac to a 2014 Mac Mini Server operating on Mavericks to ensure that no data may be lost while downgrading to Montain Lion.
Provided the above downgrading operation is successful, assign this 2009 iMac to partial retirement e.g. Mail, Skype, iTunes  and DVD player.
In advance, I would like to thank the Apple Community for helping me either i) finding a cure to the problem, ii) or confirming that Mavericks cannot operate properly on Core 2 Duo computers, iii) and in such a case, guiding me on how to downgrade to Mountain Lion.
    Yours sincerely
    Core

... what anti-virus would you recommend using?
Use what is already included with OS X. It already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.
