Burst-mode photos in PSE 9

I asked this question a while back in relation to PSE 5 and had no good solution, but recently updated to PSE 9 and was hoping for something better...
When I take pictures in burst mode, I get a bunch of pictures, up to 10 fps, with identical timestamps, down to the second.  The problem is that in PSE, within each second, the pictures are in a random order, such that slideshows or general viewing are rather odd.  The order can be clearly discerned from the file name, but PSE apparently only sorts on a primary key (the time), not a secondary key.  Or if PSE imported in order of file name, that would work, but apparently it doesn't.
Back in PSE 5, I'd edit the data base with MS Access to put the pictures in proper order.  But since PSE 9 uses SQLite, I'm not comfortable enough (yet?) to do the same.  I suppose one way to get slideshows would be to make a collection/album, but I prefer just flipping through all pictures in the order in which they were taken.
Anybody have any ideas how to get pictures with identical timestamps in the proper order?  Surely I can't be the only one with this problem...
Thanks,
John S.

Hi John
In the Organizer click on the Display button (near top right) and temporarily change to Folder Location View. Or use import batch.
Select the folder in the left hand panel and the images will be displayed in file name order if they are alpha numeric e.g.
IMG_0001
IMG_0002
IMG_0003 etc

  • Burst mode photo incorrect orientation (outside Album)

When I use burst mode in portrait, all photos are shown oriented correctly in "Album", but when viewed with any other photo app (Google+, Google Photos, Cyanogen Gallery etc) have actually been saved rotated in landscape. Single shot without moving the position of the camera is correctly taken and saved in portrait.
Detail of images that should be portrait show dimensions for landscape.
This does not affect photos taken as landscape photos, only portrait.
Can someone else test this and let me know if everyone is affected?

  • I took a photo using burst mode on my 5S and can't get the picture off my phone

I took a  photo using burst mode on my iPhone 5S.  The "burst" consists of 4 photos, originally.  I have picked my favorite and deleted the others.  Still, I am unable to get that photo off of my phone using Photo Stream, or e-mail.
Normally, my photos end up in Photo Stream and I can access them from my computer, but this photo that used to be part of a burst, and even while it WAS a burst, doesn't appear in my Photo Stream nor can I email it to myself.  I was able to eventually SMS the photo to a colleague who then emailed it back to me, so now it's on my computer but why can't I get that image off of my iPhone using my usual and straight-forward methods??
I was able to pull it off using iPhoto so that works.  My burst only had 4 photos but like I said, I picked my favorite and deleted the rest and I could never e-mail it to myself or access it on my computer using Photo Stream.
    Thanks.

This happens every single time a new camera comes out from one of the two big camera makers. Nikon and Canon do not send preproduction units to Adobe, so Adobe has to go out and buy a D750 or whatever from the store to test and profile it before they can update Lightroom. They can't get one earlier than you and I can. The profiling is quite an extensive operation. Other camera makers do send preproduction units, use dng, or do the profiling in-house and there you often get support right from release. If camera makers would finally embrace an open raw format such as dng, this whole problem would be gone but both Canon and Nikon seem to think they live in an upside-down world where their clients only use their software.
Usually the dead period only lasts a few weeks but it is frustrating nevertheless. My only advice is to not buy a new camera at the day of release and expect to have third parties to support it. You definitely should not be buying these cameras right away if your business depends on it. Aperture, Capture One, etc. have the exact same problem. No third party (read non-Nikon in this case) will support the camera from the release date. Some are quicker than other adding support. Adobe is somewhere in the middle of the pack in this respect. Nobody outside of Adobe knows when an update comes out. Could be tomorrow, could be a few more weeks or a month. They might jump straight to Lightroom 6 and never add direct support to LR 5. Sometimes they will first bring out a beta version of dng converter that will convert the new camera's nef files to dng, which will work fine in the current Lightroom before updating Lightroom itself.

  • In iOS 7 is there a way to turn off that new camera burst mode?

I like the old camera ability to keep your finger on the shutter and release to take a photo. It helps avoid camera blur with certain close shots you are trying to frame, and was one of my favorite "hints on using your camera" for the iPhone.
But with iOS 7 this has turned into burst mode, which is driving me crazy.
Is there a way of turning off burst mode for the shutter button and having it work like it did before?
    Thanks,
    doug

Thanks, Doug.  I'm a little disappointed to discover so few of us who miss what I consider one of the iPhone camera's cleverest refinements.  Being able to hold one's finger on the shutter and release to take the photo is something I did by habit, and now sorely miss.
Most troubling to me is that the change represents a shift to favoring an entirely new way of taking photographs — a style I'd conservatively call, "by the seat of your pants".  That's never the way I've taken photographs.
Like Nadnerb19, I'm hoping Apple reconsiders its priorities, and gives us the option to make a choice between machine gun style photography and the steadier, more 'focused' approach afforded by previous versions of iOS.

  • How can burst mode be disabled in iOS 7?

Since upgrading, each time I've used the on-screen shutter button I end up with a pile of burst mode shots. It was WAY more convenient to hold the shutter button and have it take the shot upon release. This way you could frame and focus, then shoot. There's no disable option in the Settings, so I bet it's not possible, but maybe, by seeing people post this, they will add the option.

I don't get it, if you released your finger when you wanted to take the photo, shouldn't that photo be the last one and then you'd just have to delete all those other pictures except for the last one...
I usually just hold my camera up and then take a picture. Remember that you can take a picture by using the volume buttons as well. I'm not sure if that helps at all, but I do that sometimes. I like the new camera and it takes pictures a lot faster than the old method. If you want to continue doing it the way you're used to, then why not just delete all the burst photos aside from the last one - considering that's the only one that you wanted to use in the first place. I can see how that would get tiresome real fast, so just try using the volume button.

  • PhotoBooth in Leopard, how to keep the format displayed for the burst mode

    Hi,
    I've used the new photobooth.
I've made some pictures with the burst mode.
In PhotoBooth the result is good : like this : http://images.apple.com/macosx/features/images/300photobooth20071016.png
But if i want to send the picture by mail, my picture is just 4 picture in a square ... no as fun as the one displayed in PhotoBooth
Do you know if we can keep the format seen in photobooth ???

    Hi
Just tried and with the photo showing in the main photoshop window hold the shift/apple(cmd)/4 keys and you will see a cross hair, click and drag that from the top left of the window to the bottom right and release.
You should now have a grab of the pic on you desktop.

  • Burst mode on ios 7

Will the burst mode in photos work on the iphone 5 running ios 7? Can't figure it out and don't know if it's a hardware upgrade or just software upgrade.

Burst mode will be available on the iPhone 5S and 5C. There are apps in the App Store, I believe, that will give you the same functionality.
    Best of luck.

  • I am trying to import photos into PSE 12 from folders on my desktop, which are organized by broad topics--family, vacations, etc..  Many of my photos are located in several folders.  When I try to import them to PSE I get a message saying some photos were

I am new to PSE 12 and am trying to import my photos from folders on my desktop which I have organized by the categories I had in my previous program (Creative Memories).  Many of my photos are located in multiple folders, i.e. one photo could be in "Family," Vacations" and "Birthdays."  When I try to import the contents of each folder on my desktop I am often getting the message that many of my photos were not imported as they are already in my catalog.  Is there a way that I can import any one photo multiple times so that it ends up in all the folders I want it to be in?  I know I can locate the photo in PSE and copy it to a different folder(s), but there are so many not being imported that this would be a huge task!

By design, the organizer (and any other database management systems) is there to prevent you from duplicating your media files. The catalog management allows you to have the same image in different categories or albums. Duplication in different folders is to be absolutely avoided.
The same image file can have multiple tags like 'family', 'vacations', 'birthdays' and be present in three different albums with the same names. On obvious advantage is less disk space. Another one with your present folder system is that if you edit one of your duplicates, the other ones are unchanged.
I don't see an easy way to make your present folder structure simplified for the organizer ...

  • Deleting a photo from PSE 8 and Nikon ViewNX 2 at same time?

My PSE 8 has the Nikon program as the supplementary editing program, and the Nikon program has PSE 8 as the open with program.  I made sure that the settings were made.  When I delete a photo in PSE 8, why isn't the same photo automatically deleted from Nikon ViewNX 2 and the reverse when working in the Nikon program which isn't often that I do?  The same question could also be applied to Windows Live Photo Gallery which I don't like to use, but photos keep accumulating as in the Nikon program.  PSE 8 is my main program for editing, but would like to learn NX 2.  My PSE 8 is kept clear of unwanted photos. Is there a control that I am missing, or am I asking too much to be able to keep unwanted photos off my computer?  I know I may have to do it manually, but hope that there is an easy solution.  By the way, deleting from NX doesn't automatically delete the same photo from PSE 8 either.

You are right about that.  I loaded ViewNX 2 to help solve another problem which it did. The problem is solved so I will delete NX 2.  I couldn't understand when I got Windows 7 why there were people who wanted to know how to unstall Live Photo Gallery.  Well, now that I have PSE 8 I know why.  Of course, PSE 8 does more and Photo Gallery fights PSE 8.  From what I read, getting rid of Photo Gallery couln't be done by simply doing the "unstall".  It sounded so complicated.  Will check it out again, but better to deal with two programs than three.  Thanks again.

  • Saving edited photos in PSE 12 from Lr 5

I have edited several photos in PSE 12 from Lr5
After selecting the item to edit with the magnetic lasso tool on the background layer and saving it in selections I created  a new layer and reloaded the selection so far so good
After editing and then going to save the photo does not show in Lr, it is in the pictures folder but only the selection is visible and the background or unedited portion is white
I went into Lr and picked the appropriate folder and after right clicking selected  syncronise folder the picture then is displayed in Lr.
Do I need to select or deselect  or combine the layers before saving or am I missing some other commands out.
Please try to keep instructions simple new to these programs so all unfamiliar ar present.

You probabloy used Save As. So you created a new file which Lightroom knows nothing about.
You need to start the round trip from LR as follows and use the save command (Ctrl+S) not save as:
    1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings (I choose PSD)
    2) Edit in PSE; then Ctrl+S to replace (overwrite) Lightroom export copy
    3) Ctrl+W to close in PSE and update Lightroom thumbnail.
    On Mac OSX Cmd+E; Cmd+S; Cmd+W
Also make sure all your layers are visibe (eye symbol not turned off) before using Ctrl+S
