Bus to Audio track or Track to Track

Hi,
I'm an ex-protooks user and I want to know how it's possible to records a bus on an audio track.
BMy routing is: Track1 (my song with effect)
go to bus 1
and I want that this "bus1" go to "track2" to record my song with effect !
Or if its possible to do Track 1 -> track 2 -> general
Hope you will understand,
I'm here if you have question ^^

Clearly Runaway has correctly identified external routing as the only way to do this; you can monitor an effect, but you can't record this feed directly. This appears to be what you originally wanted, when you said:
>and I want that this "bus1" go to "track2" to record my song with effect!
And it's not an oversight at all, but quite deliberate. In technical terms, this means that the greatest amount of resources are available within your PC for actual recording - so that means you can potentially record more tracks simultaneously.
But there is another more principled reason for this as well - and that is simply that recording
anything with applied effects is bad practice, simply because you cannot, certainly with things like reverb, remove them once recorded - if you add too much, you're stuck with it. So the basic rule is always to record 'flat and dry'. Adding effects to the monitoring channel, so that singers can hear a bit of reverb in their foldback, is clearly often desirable though, so the facility to do this is included. But the only way to record the effected feed is to route a physical output back to a spare input, and record that.

  • Audio tracks not playing

A really odd thing keeps happening to me.
When I open my Logic projects it often doesn't play all the audio tracks. If I double-click a region and open it in sample editor I can play it from there but still it doesn't play the track in arrange. And the weird thing is it's not always the same track.
Has this happened to anyone else? It doesn't even bounce the tracks offline, the tracks are absolutely mute.

do they play when moved to another track?
are they light gray in color? select track or segment and hit the m key.
are they assigned to a bus?

  • Logic Pro X keeps sending C0 notes to midi out when record is armed on a audio track

I have a annoying problem with Logic Pro X, which I bought a month ago. Here's al little scenario that describes the problem.
I disconnect my audio interface, so that Logic Pro has to rely on my MacBook Pro's internal audio. This way I exclude my RME-FF800 from being of any influence.
I start up the Midi Monitor tool, to analyse what comes out of Logic; MIDI-wise.
I start up Logic set up a small test project in Logic Pro X, that contains:1 audio track
There's little button on the audio track with a red-colored "R". This is the button to "arm" this track for recording audio.
I push the little "R" button, the R-character turns white, the button as a whole turns red. The button starts blinking.
From this moment on Logic starts sending MIDI messages ....... huh?  Every second or so ... a low C.
In my regular studio setup this means that I hear a low repeated note coming out of my piano, every time I record audio.  How annoying!!
By the way ... a Guitar/Bass track has the same problem. All the other track types (External midi, software instrument, drummer) don't have this problem.
Help is deeply appreciated, because it drives me crazy and if I can't fix this .... I think I have to return to my previous DAW-of-choice (Cubase 7.5).

The note is likely being sent out because of a Control Surface you have installed or used.... be it a hardware keyboard, controller or even an ipad controller app... such as Logic Remote or TouchOSC for example... or even an iOS software synth app that is sending midi over wireless....
So.. first make sure you have force quit any iPad/iPhone Logic/midi related apps and not just closed them..
Then if that doesn't fix things.. delete Logic's CS preferences... and Logic's own user preferences too...as described here..
    Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
    Restart the computer.
Do not forget to Quit Logic before doing this and then restart the Mac after doing this....

  • How to extract one of several audio tracks from a .vob file?

    Hi guys,
hope you can help me, i'm looking for a solution for hours now but can't find one.
I would like to know how to extract one audio track from a .vob file when there are different tracks/languages on the dvd? Media encoder does it very well, but i can't find the option for choosing the right audio track/language for extraction. Please help
    Kind regards
    Alex

This is because the OMF specification requires mono audio files
It really depends on what you are trying to do with the two tracks as to the best answer as far as 'grouping'
You could select all the clips on both tracks and right mouse click and select 'group'
You could send both tracks to a bus
You could export the two tracks to a stereo file and bring that back into the session
Lots more things I'm sure but a little more detail as to what you are trying to do would help

  • Export to Quicktime with multiple Audio Tracks?

    Hi all --
I am on a tight deadline (48 hrs!) to deliver a Quicktime Prores file with 6 audio tracks: ch 1+2 dialog, ch 2+3 music&effects, ch 4+5 stereo mix. I'm working with FCP 6.
Now, I have figured out how to export the FCP 6 project to a Quicktime file with multiple audio tracks (in the Project settings, I specify 3 stereo channels, then I assign each audio track to one of the channels and export everything to a Quicktime file).
However, how can I send a stereo mix to channels 4+5?? FCP only allows me to assign each audio track one but not multiple output channels, and I didn't see a way where I could create a bus.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Something is being miscounted here. You say you have dialog on 1+2 and then say you have M&E on 2+3? I think you meant to say 3+4 and the stereo mix will be on 5+6. The easiest way to do this is to copy tracks 1-4 to tracks 5-8 by shift-option-dragging them there. Holding option will copy the tracks instead of moving them and holding shift will insure that the tracks will not move earlier or later. Then send 5+6 (dialog) to the 5+6 output (using the info in the above referenced discussion) and send 7+8 (music&effects) also to the 5+6 output. Done.

  • Missing Audio track controls (fader, solo, mute, sends, inserts etc...)

After doing a "save as project" I ended up with 2 big problems. When I pull the song off the CDR and open it up on my computer the controls for some audio tracks are missing. I lose anything having to do with track control such as input, output, fade, solo, pan, inserts, buses, mute, record. The only thing i can see is the group assignment and automation pull down menus. The other problem i have is that i have to manually relink all the audio files. Why can't the session file find the audio files??? They are all in the audio files folder right next to the session file. Arg. i am running logic pro 7 and the computer that the "save project" was completed on is running logic 6 express 6.4.0.

I'll take a stab at it.
Sounds like your parameters are not viewed. In the arrange window menus - there should be a view menu and it allows you select what things to see for each track.
Maybe view parameters or view channel strip only settings may help.
Not sitting in front of Logic at the moment.
May have something to do with goign from L6 to L7,but i'm only guessing on that one.
    hope this helps

Yup, after I have extracted an audio track from the video track how can I replace it? Dragging & dropping isn't working neither is cutting & pasting. I wasn't able to find any info on this at all. Please don’t tell me it's irreversible. AAUUUUUUGHH!!

    ibblefum,
The extract audio command copies the audio from the selected clip and place it on the one of the two audio tracks. It then sets the audio in the original clip to zero.
To restore the audio in the original clip, just select it and raise the level back to 100%.

  • How do I send audio tracks to an Aux channel

I want to send 3 channels of back up vocal to an Aux channel.
An Aux channel has Sends, which a Bus does not. I EQ and set the levles on each channel. Then after I have a good blending mix, I would like to send them to an Aux channel and use a compressor & limiter.
The point is to send the processed vocals from the Aux to a Bus that has a good reverb and then turn the send knob depending on how much of the backup vocals I want to send to the reverb on the Bus channel, and also that I can assign other channels to that bus too. When I click under the I/O on one of the channels, there are only Bus options.
How can I get vocals in to an Aux channel and control the volume, compression, and limiting and then send them to a Bus?

Route your audio track to bus 1 (for example) . . . now on an Aux object, set it's input as Bus 1. Now you are free to use the Sends on Aux 1 (to a different Bus) as you see fit.

  • Audio tracks output splitter method? or splitter plug-in? PLEASE Help

    Fellow Logic-addicts,
I am scratching my head around a problem.
I already use a lot of external hardware processing, and nearly always as inserts
    processing(compressors,eq,analogue filtering)
Until sometime ago I did the same for using more send-return type of fx like
    reverb/delays/modulation etc....
Thus I had to duplicate a dry audiotrack and process it, and bounce then blend in with the other track.
In a recent project I mixed, I ended up with some sessions with a leadvocal track
and 5 copies of this track all processed through various fx like short reverb, short delay, long delay, doubler etc..., because of using hardware fx.
I wonder if it's possible in Logic to insert the hardware fx on a bus, so I could simply use the aux sends on the track's channel strip to send to that bus and to avoid piling up identical audio files in a Logic project, which also is clumsy
in the workflow, because when I apply hardware fx to a lot of tracks there are doubles/triples everywhere and it gets confusing and too crowded?
Other possibility, I've been searching like a madmen for years for an audio track's output splitter plug-in(like Spider in Reason), but I have found NONE
    in the AudioUnits realm.
Does somebody know about such a plug-in to work in Logic?
I still don't understand why the Apple-developers didn't think of including such a plug-in, because it could allow amazing routing possibilities, like in this case, you could send the audio track to the main output(1-2 or whatever)
BUT also to alternate hardware outputs, so you can use a hardware reverb unit, + a hardware delay unit etc...to which the audio track is being sent , and then you could blend the results back in Logic more easily.
Or more: you could even avoid copying tracks for sidechaining as you could use one track as is to main outputs but also connected to the sidechain input of other tracks processing, wich would make this also easier.
Or what about outputting and grouping drum-tracks(kick-snare-hh-etc...) to multiple busses so you could have a very flexible setup for parallel processing, with many
more sonic possibilities= drum-group going to a bus with hard-compression, while another goes to a softer compression, and a third one a distortion/beef bus with tape/tube processing, then you could all blend those tracks with faders, like on a real console and not piling up inserts on one bus, wich is more limited sonically, especially if the processing you use doesn't have a dry/wet knob.
If any of you sees a better alternative, or method to achieve what I want in Logic, or want to discuss that topic and chime in, be my guest.
I am not an expert of Logic, so you Logic geniuses= rise and shine!
Thank you very much for your advice
    Best Regards
    Biggnik

Wow - long post to say "can I use hardware boxes as inserts?" and the answer is yes, and you have been able to for a long time.
I don't know why you're doing some odd "duplicated track" thing... weird...
So, for inserts of regular channels, just stick Logic's I/O plug on the channel. Tell it which audio output you want it to send to, and which audio input to receive from. Patch up the appropriate ins and outs on your interface to your hardware box/patchbay/mixer/whatever and bob's your uncle.
You can also do this on aux channels, so if you want to send a bunch of tracks to a hardware reverb, you'd put the I/O plug on the aux channel you're using in the same way as described above. Now simply use the sends on each channel you want to send to that aux (and therefore hardware reverb).
Note you'll need to have software monitoring turned on.
Another way is to just set the output of a channel or aux to the extra audio outputs on your interface, and bring the outputs of your processing hardware back into spare inputs and feed them into the Logic mix using input objects.
Lots of ways to do it in Logic.
    And no duplicate recordings needed...
I still don't understand why the Apple-developers didn't think of including such a plug-in, because it could allow amazing routing possibilities, like in this case, you could send the audio track to the main output(1-2 or whatever) BUT also to alternate hardware outputs, so you can use a hardware reverb unit, + a hardware delay unit etc...to which the audio track is being sent , and then you could blend the results back in Logic more easily.
You can just do this already with mixer routing alone, no plugins necessary.

  • Audio track volume low?

I Bus recorded my midi EXS drum track by routing it to Bus1 and by choosing Bus1 as an Input on the Audio track.
Problem now is that the Audio track is not loud enough. I normalized it using the Functions menu in the sample editor window. But when I play the audio region in the arrange window there is absolutely no volume increase?
    Please help.

It's an old school assumption to always think the maximum level will lead to better results. With 24-Bit we have a lot of headroom and the resolution of Audio even at lower levels is appropriate.
Normalizing will alter the waveforms, add the empty bits at the top to the bottom of the file thus raising the level as well as the noise floor.
    http://gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/21302-does-trk-normalizin g-lose-headroom-mix.html
Mastering Audio by Bob Katz is a good book for these kind of topics...
I actually just made a test with some sine waves, the normalized sine wave had 0,3% of DC offset added whereas the original file had 0% DC offset.
Also in RX the spectrums of the two files look a little different:
2 khz sinewave at -12 dB
    2 khz sinewave normalized

  • How to play audio tracks with mainstage

Hello, newbie to mainstage-looked around site but didn't find too much.
I have a gig in a few weeks need help fast please!- Looking to play either multiple, or even just one long 30 minute track in mainstage and then play with fx live. terminology in user manual doesn't seem to say much about this. can i run an audio track in mainstage as a patch or something. Or run logic/audio track(s) through mainstage and then put fx on it? thanks

I have not used an FC-300, but I have had a close look at its specifications. I don't think it is going to be a lot of use as a controller for MainStage.
You have two 'expression' pedals; these can be assigned to control any two parameters in any patch eg two channel strip volumes; one bus send level & one FX parameter, etc. Useful, but limited in scope.
The remaining pedals are foot switches. That means they will each allow you to do the following types of action:
    change patch up or down
bypass any FX, synths or channel strips in a patch
    start & stop Ultrabeat
any other similar type of action.
What do you want the buttons to do?
To use a foot switch to control a button:
'Learn' a footswitch to a button (to begin with, stick to switches 1 -5. Ignore 6 - 10 until you are comfortable with the first five switches)
when you have 'Learned' the switches in the Layout screen move to the Edit screen
Here, take each button in turn & assign it to an action:
    e.g
    button 1 to Ultrabeat start/stop
    button 2 to Delay Bypass
button 3 to 'Next Patch' (set at Concert Level)
button 4 to 'Previous Patch' (set at Concert Level)
I don't think that you will be able to do much more with the FC-300 than that. I hope someone will be able to prove me wrong.
NB It doesn't matter what CC number the switches have in the FC-300. Once you have assigned them to a button, the switch should carry out whatever action the button is assigned to in MainStage. All you need to do is to make sure that no two buttons have the same CC number.

  • Sending Sequence to Motion - Only One Audio Track Goes

When I send a sequence in FCP over to Motion (using the "Send To" function), the sequence only has one audio channel in Motion even though the original sequence has a stereo pair of tracks. I'm sure I'm missing something easy but sure can't find an answer after digging around here and in other sources.
    Suggestions?

The single audio channel in Motion can act as a Stereo Bus, so the audio clip is probably stereo. Click on it and have a look at Audio Track in the Inspector. If it is a mono track, and i do get this from time to time, i usually export an AIFF from fcp and import that into motion.

  • Midi instrument to audio track recording prob.

Im Trying to record a midi (instrument) track to an audio track. I have created the sound using the FM8 synth... There is one parameter on FM8 that wont record automation (morph grid) so to get the effect I need to record it in as a real audio file. So I bus the instrument track out to bus 1, then i take the audio track and make that audio bus 1... levels seem to come up yet for some reason when i record it doesnt record anything despite there seeming to be a level coming up.. any suggestions? Ive been searching the manual for hours

I was afraid that was the case...Thankyou for taking note of the performance issue and answering my real question, cuz i have an automation problem which im told is a bug and have a work around for now but still no live automation and if i do live auto. it will record it but i cant hear any of the old automation as im doing it making it kinda useless at many times... but anyways.... so it appears as my two options are to re-route it out externally (but then wont that still only leave me one real pass of automation via midi) cuz if i am still able to modulate the regular audio via live in on the synth using the audio... then that would work... but Im still not sure if i would be able to record the audio file on a midi track (ill have to try that unless someone knows)... if that were the case then i could just bounce the file to audio and modulate everything using the synths as effects?? do you know if they can do that on Native instrument synths?
