Business account screen sharing options

[Topic title change by moderator to change "Skype for Business" to "Business account"]
Qestion:
using  my private skype account I can share my screen only with other 3 users max
If I will set up a business account, how it works with screen sharing, by connecting other private skype users  then?
Is there still the same rule: limitation to max 3 other private  users?
or
no matter if I share my screen with other business or private users, this limatation will no more exist?
If any idea
many thank for anwer

I was using Lync as part of the offerings found on Office 365 and I was prompted to "upgrade" to Skype for Business and so I did per the suggestion. Lync had screen sharing, Skype for Business currently does not have screen sharing! This is a major dissapointment. Who is the product manager and why the premature roll-out? This is incredebly frustrating as most all my clients leverage Lync (their own install on their servers... have not upgraded yet.. lucky for them) and screen sharing is an important part of my interaction. It took many of my clients a long time to master Lync and therefore, it is incredebly challenging to teach them how to use an alternative tool over the phone. I feel incridebly duped. My clients can share with me however, I cannot share with them. What is the current timeframe for enabling (re-enabling) this functionality? How can I get back Lync? Is there a beta release of the next version? Finally, how can this be called "Skype for Business" when a core aspect of the tool to conduct "business" had been stripped away without warning?

• Upgrade from iChat 3.1.8 to 3.1.9 & enabling Screen Sharing options

    Hello,
I am trying to help my best friend use her old mac with iChat and she does not have all the options available to her.
First of all, she has the following mac:
    iMac G5
    PowerMac 8,1
    Mac OS X 10.4.11
    iChat 3.1.8
I bought her a webcam with microphone so we could video chat and it works perfectly. It was the Rocketfish HD Webcam from BestBuy about $50.00 (http://rocketfishproducts.com/products/computers/RF-HDWEB.html).
We where able to video chat perfectly and we even used the video chat to chat 3-way with another friend using iChat.
When explaining all the features to her, I was trying to show her how to use the share-screen feature, but we realized she did not have that option available to her.
    My questions are:
    1) How to make this screen-sharing option available to her?
    2) Does the upgrade to iChat 3.1.9 have that feature enabled? What does the 3.1.9 upgrade have that the 3.1.8 version doesn't? Where can I get this upgrade from? Is there a higher iChat 3 version other than 3.1.9?
    3) Is there any way to upgrade her to iChat 4 or higher without having to upgrade her whole operating system?
    4) Is there any free third party software that can enable her to share her screen using iChat 3?
    Thank you for your help,
    Melissa

    Hi,
Re 1) Only by upgrading to iChat 4 or 5
Re 2) No. See 1) above.
Re 3) No. Each iChat version goes/comes with the OS involved. In fact it is particular about getting it's Updates when the OS is Updated. Reinstalling iChat from an Install Disk requires you run the COMBO OS Updater of the OS level you are at to update iChat to that level.
    Re 4) YES http://www.pleasantsoftware.com/showmacster/
This comes with a set of preset pics that can be On or Off instead of the Video feed.
It has some other settings and one of these can be a section of the Screen as Video feed.
It has a demo to try and cost less than $20
It will do slide shows of Pics and Annotate single pics if you use the white board option.
Also try the Demo of this (it is cheaper as well).
It does not mention it in the blurb but it used to have a feature for changing the Video feed and this could be the Desktop (in fact if you didn't/don't delete it the default on Demo Expiry was/is to show the Desktop)
Both are compatible with each other.
Both warn you that they don't work in Snow Leopard (iChat 5 Can see the stuff they send OK)
    NOTE:
It is a Display of her Screen only and is not interactive mouse wise from your end. As it is still a video chat you can talk her through things though.
Both will work up to iChat 4.0.9 which may give you the option of Installing for Demo-ing something to her.

  • Screen sharing option no longer works after updating to iOS Maverik. I am using AIM and so is the other person who i am trying to share my screen with. .

I am using AIM and so is the other person who i am trying to share my screen with. I log into AIM with an @aol.com account. I can request to share my screen and share the other person's screen. The window will pop up on the other computer, but after clicking accept it will go back to saying that there is a request for screen share. What should I do to fix this?

    HI,
To be clear, iOS = iPhone and iPad and some iPod Touches and the Operating System they use.
Mac OS X = the Operating System Mac computers use.
Regarding the AOL account, is this actually from AOL and have the Chat/Messaging option enabled ?
Or is it a Name registered with the AIM part of AIM ?
You can have AOL as your ISP  and have an email and User ID from them.
This needs to have the ability to use the name as a Chat name enabled (or at least it used to)
AIM, which actually stands for AOL Instant Messaging has it's own registration site.
Nowadays  you register for a AIM email (although activating it for mail is another additional step).
It used to be that the bit before the @aim.com bit was the user name you used in Chat applications that could use AIM.
Previous to the current system you could in fact register just a Screen Name with them.
Apple (and a few US based ISPs) also have agreements with AIM that their (Apple, etc.)  emails are recognised as Valid AIM Screen Names.
This means those issued by  Apple ending in @mac.com, @me.com issued from the iCloud registration and @icloud.com.
(You do have to keep your password to 16 characters or less.)
From what you are saying you seem to be sure that you can see each other as On Line in your respective AIM Buddy lists ?
In Messages in both Mountain Lion and Mavericks you do not have to display the Buddy lists
(See the Window Menu plus the General Section of the Preferences to separate them)
Are you also saying that in the Video menu the option to allow Screen Shares is Enabled ?
Is it done at both ends ?
In iChat you could offer to Share your Screen with a Buddy without the option being On  (they could not ask to share yours or offer theirs).  I have not tested this in Messages.

  • Screen sharing greyed out - Airport Extreme

    Hello all:
I'm trying to use screen sharing with another mac but my screen sharing option is greyed out. The setup is as follows:
    - Computer 1 is a Quad Mac Pro, connected to an Airport Extreme (wireless).
    - Computer 2 is a MacBook Pro (older one, but still plenty fast).
    - Both computers are running iChat 4.0.7 and OSX 10.5.7
I can ask to share Computer 2's screen and am able to view/control their screen without a problem. The problem is I'm unable to share my screen at all (greyed out). I have scoured the web and this forum to see if I can find a solution, but so far no luck.
Here's what I've done so far:
    1. Set Quicktime Streaming to 1.5Mbps on BOTH computers. Restarted iChat.
    2. Connection Doctor/Capabilities shows green checks all the way down.
    3. System Prefs/Security/Firewall: this is set to "access for specific services". In the list, File Sharing and Screen Sharing are both at top. I have also added the iChat application to the list just in case.
    4. System Prefs/Sharing - File Sharing and Screen Sharing are both on.
    5. iChat App: Screen Sharing is enabled here as well.
    6. Both computers are using .MAC (or ME) accounts.
    7. Have checked bandwith and both connections are plenty fast (20 down/8 up)
    8. Airport Extreme on my end set to WPA2 Personal (could this be causing problems)?
I'm at my wit's end, not sure how to proceed. Anyone find a way to fix this? Again, i can screenshare Computer 2 just fine. It's Computer 1 (the faster of the two) that refuses to work.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
From your end you can Offer to Share and Ask to Share (2 options)
The same is true of the Buddy (2 more options)
You only speak of this from one end.
Having said that In the Airport Base Station (Airport Utility) go to the Internet Icon pane and then the the NAT tab and set Port Mapping Protocol to be Enabled (there is no need to set ports)

  • Tutorial Screen Sharing

Can someone explain me how to enter in Screen Sharing mode?
I have to do some settings on my mother's Mac, which is on the other side of the world, but I can't find a way to access her MAC.
Can someone write me a quick tutorial?
I went to SHARING tab on System preferences,
and have her activated the SCREEN SHARING option,
    but I can't access.
Has someone succeded in using it?

If, and only if you have a MobileMe account, you can have your mother go to System Preferences > MobileMe and sign into your account.  Then her computer will show up in your Finder so that you can control it via Screen Sharing.
If you do not have a MobileMe account and need to screen share immediately, then you will need a service like those I mentioned in my earlier post.  If you are willing to wait to use Back to my Mac, you can wait for iCloud to debut in the fall aside iOS 5.  You can see this link to the MobileMe website for details on services transitioning to iCloud.

  • Screen sharing greyed out

My friend and I both have Messages beta and FaceTime on our Macs and we are unable to share screens. The screen sharing option is greyed out. What are we doing wrong?

    HI,
Screen Sharing in System Preferences uses ths same "engine" but does not need to be turned On for iChat (Or Messages) Screen Sharing to work.
Both parties have to be on the same network.
This could be AIM as both AIM Names and Apple IDs ending in @mac.com and @me.com login into this service. (These types of APple IDs are also valid AIM Screen Names -see notes)
    NOTES
Apple IDs issued from iCloud (@me.com) can only be used in iChat 6 or Messages Beta (In Lion basically)
Also these Apple IDs must have passwords that will work with the AIM servers (No more than 16 characters)
    Edit
    Thanks for the Points

  • Failed to establish Screen Sharing

    Hi,
I'm in India on my home wifi network. Following is the setting of my macbook.
    OS 10.5.8
    iChat 4.0.8(619)
    Firewall: Allow all incoming connections
Screen Sharing: On for all users (Any one can request screen sharing is checked)
My bro is is VA, USA. He is behind a wifi network..
    OS 10.6
    iChat 5.0(741)
    Firewall: Allow all incoming connections
Screen Sharing: On for all users (Any one can request screen sharing is checked)
When signed in to google account we can voice and video chat but screen sharing fails.
When signed in to .mac account screen sharing just starts with a message on the screen but immediately stops again.
    Any help?

    Hi,
There are many Buffalo devices listed here http://portforward.com/routers.htm
    Click on yours.
Click the Dismiss item on the next page.
    Choose iChat in the next.
The page you arrive at is for Pics and Default access info only.
Near the top it will tell what IP is the default to use in a Web Browser.
Many also require User IDs ad Passwords and these are listed.
For Screen Sharing to work you will need UPnP
The page will tell you how to do Port Forwarding but don't do that.
Check all the Menu items, tabs and links that appear on the pages to see if you have UPnP.
Enable it if it is Not Enabled and Save Settings.
The hostel end may have problems.
iChat in Video is somewhat Bandwidth hungry. With lots of others doing things on the internet they may not get enough Bandwidth to Video.

  • No audio/video/screen-sharing problem in iChat 4.0

I've been using iChat for years (since its original release) and since upgrading to 10.5 I can no longer audio or video chat; and the new screen-sharing option doesn't work either.
I connect to the net through an AirPort wireless network, which is connected to an ADSL Nation X-Modem/Router. I have a 2Mbps connection. As far as I know all the required ports are open on the router. My friend has the same ISP as me (Force9) and has made sure he has the same ports open on his router too.
I've adjusted my iChat settings to port 443 with no SSL and a Bandwidth limit of 500 Kbps in iChat; and QuickTime settings to 1.5 Mbps in System Preferences. I've read other discussions on this forum suggesting these options.
However, nothing seems to work. I can't even get audio and video to work across Bonjour on my home network any more. I'd be grateful for any help anyone can offer.

    Hi,
Technically it should not matter if you are using AIM or @Mac names.
However you have solved that bit.
The Screen Sharing part uses three ports.
Two randomly picked ports for the Screen Sharing and the same A/V port for the Audio component. As the Airport is normally set to Share An IP and does NAT on the fly so to speak this also should not be a problem
The ADSLNAtion site is a bit behind on it's Airport page
http://www.adslnation.com/support/knowledgebase/ht007.php as it shows the older Firmware pics.
    I found the new page
    http://www.adslnation.com/knowledgebase/xmodem+airport-11n.php
This says that the DNS server info in the Airport needs to be removed.
It is not clear if this is a variation for the X-Modem M3
Very few of the posts here http://forum.adslnation.com/viewforum.php?f=3 are after Leopard came out and nothing appears to be about iChat.
So it would somewhat depend if the Airport is Sharing and IP or is Static to the computer and Port Mapping used.

  • No screen sharing possible anymore

Hi, i updatet my iMac and my mac mini to Lion. Then i installed Lion Server on the mini.
After doing this, all attemps to connect from my iMac to my mini with screen sharing fail.

Okay, i got it now. There is a difference in activating the remote administration options (in the "Sharing" Pane in the systempreferences). When the option for remote administration is set, it deactivates the option for screen sharing (the computer will tell you that the remote administration controls the screen sharing option). But what exactly happens is not clear. When you diable this feature, and activate the screen sharing, then everything works fine...
Sorry for the my worse english

  • Screen sharing in group video calling

Is it available screen sharing option for gp video calls ?

I got this e-mail too. I do not think it is scam. But I want to use both desktop and windows apps.  What the problem? Please Skype team do not change anything.
Use the best Skype experience on your computer
    Hello .......,
It looks like you’ve signed into two Skype for Windows apps ‒ Skype for Windows desktop and Skype for modern Windows ‒ on your Windows 8 device.
We’re simplifying your experience down to one app that you can use either with your mouse and keyboard or with touch. Going forward you’ll only need to use the Skype for Windows desktop app. This app has more features to help you stay connected like screen sharing and group video calling. Also, your chat conversations (from the last 30 days) and all your contacts will appear as normal.
Note: From 7 July, 2015 you’ll no longer be able to sign into the Skype for modern Windows app.

  • Snow Leopard and Screen sharing question

I followed the information in this article to use screen sharing between 2 SL computers and I can make the basic SS work.  However, two items from this article don't function as described.  It is an older article and I'm asking to see how it still applies to Snow Leopard users.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/131094/2007/12/screensharepower.html
One item that doesn't seem to work is Bonjour Browser window.  Launching screen share doesn't automatically launch Bonjour Browser.  This is a small incovenience but it means I launch BB manually then cut and paste a device address from BB to SS.
The second item is the terminal command to add additional items to the basic SS toolbar such as the button to capture the remote screen to a local file.  I've tried it but the additional buttons don't appear.  Are their other commans I could use to locally capture a screenshot from the remote machine to my computer?
Are either of these features compatible in Snow Leopard?  If yes, how could I trouble shoot my setup to find out why an item isn't functining as described.
    Thanks!

What did you do to make it work?
In my setup, I am facing pretty much all the issues I saw on the forum around screen sharing. So from a Snow Leopard iMAC:
    1. I can't even get the black remote screen when trying to get access to another iMAC 10.6.1 system. In most of the case the connecting window stays on for about 1 min and than closes; the screen sharing application shows nothing connected. Once or twice I got a black remote screen and once I think it did work well. Tens of times it just did not connect. Console messages show errors with NetAuthAgent (even that file sharing and screen sharing are enabled on the remote Snow Leopard system and the file sharing was fine but connection is slower than with leopard).
2. I can connect to a Leopard system but takes almost a minute to connect. I can access Leopard regardless of the screen sharing options and I never get a black remote screen.
All systems are in a LAN. Before Snow Leopard upgrade the screen sharing connection was instant on all systems.

  • Does Ichat screen sharing work properly with Lion OSX?

Hello, I am planning to install the new OS Lion soon. However, I was wondering if the Ichat screen sharing works properly with Lion. I use the screen sharing quite a lot to communicate with my co-workers, so it's a deal breaker if the app crashes when using the screen sharing option. Thank you!

    Hi,
I have not seen a post where it has been reported to be a problem.

  • IMessages screen sharing greyed out

    I have a problem here, and I don't know what's wrong:
I'm on face time chatting with me, and she wants to screen share with me. I enable all options here: audio chat, video chat, and screen sharing.
Then I want to share my screen with her: I click buddies, but share screen with [person] is greyed out. I asked her via facetime to see if screen sharing and audio chat and video chat are enabled, and she said yes. Both she and I are on lion, and using Messages Beta. How can I get these menu options to no be greyed out?

    Hi,
FaceTime can be invoked (Started) from the Mesages Beta if you have been iMessaging someone.
(You could also chose to Video them straightaway without texting first but the Name from the Contacts List in the "To" spot will still be based on iMessages and the Video icon will launch FaceTime.
FaceTime does not do Screen Sharing.
The Screen Sharing option (As well as the Audio Only chats and Video Chats set in the same menu) refer to the old "iChat Style" Buddy Lists and the options to connect from those.
For these you and your Buddy need the Type of Screen Name or ID to "match" in the broadest sense.
Either you both have something valid with AIM (AIM or @Mac.com and @me.com ending names from Apple IDs) or something that can be used with a Jabber login (Facebook, Google or other Jabber ID).
As long as you both use iChat or Message beta then you can Video Chat. Audio Only chat and Screen Share  (AIM to AIM or Jabber to Jabber)

  • How do I get started with screen sharing?

There are dozens of articles on the web and posts here talking about what's new with screen sharing in Lion, but for the life of me I can't find anything that tells somebody completely new to screen sharing how to get started.  If I want to do screen sharing with a friend (over the Internet, not a LAN), what exactly do we have to do to get started?
Sorry for a noob question, but everything I see assumes you're already completely familiar with it and just want to see Lion tweaks.

ok so go to your system preferences on your MAC > go to sharing > click the screen sharing option on> next go to the add users section right below on the right and you add your friend whom you want to share with. You have to select a password for this person.  When you get this done you will see a
Other users can access your computer's screen at:
and you will have an address there with some numbers. give this to your friend whom you want to see your screen, they have to post this in their web-browser, and that is how you remotely screen share. This is if you all are not on the same network. Also if you want to share his/her screen they will have to do these steps for you.

  • Screen sharing only in one way

Hi, I'm doing screen sharing everyday -mostly for helping other with their macs- with no problem but with one person (an uncle of mine).
He uses a new 20" iMac (the late one), we can text chat, videoconferencing, audioconferencing and screen sharing in one way, I can let him control my mac but it's impossible to let me control his Mac.
The fourth button in ichat (where to ask for permission or give permission to screen sharing) is half enable, only one of the options is enabled to click on, the option for "ask for screen sharing" isn't. So I can give him permission to control my mac but not to control his mac.
How can this be possible? I asume screen sharing works in the same protocols in both ways, above all when we can do video and audio conferencing.
Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi Ralph,
When you have ticked the screen sharing option in iChat>video>screen sharing and your buddy "high lights" (one click) your screen name the screen sharing icon will be displayed in black on his end indicating "enabled".
This way he can ask for your permission to share your screen.
When your contact has not ticked the screen sharing option the screen sharing icon in your contact list will be grey.
When your contact has ticked the screen sharing option as well the screen sharing icon in your contact list will be black as well.
Of course all other requirements for iChat screen sharing have to be met.
More important: I wish you a very happy new year!
