Business Activity Monitoring (BAM)

Hi,
How does BAM affect performance within SAP?
Can anyone throw more light how BAM will help in process monitoring & measurement?
Are there any relevant links where i can find exhaustive material related to BAM?
I got across one product article called 'Optimize for SAP'
Need more insight....
Your inputs are welcome
Thanks,
Best regards,
Nitesh

Hello Nitesh,
perhaps you can specify what you are really looking for and what you would like to measure and who should be the target audience.
Marilyn already provided you with some link to the Netweaver focused pages on SDN which deal with what the market understands under BAM.
But SAP provides also some other KPIs coming out-of-the-box with Business Process Monitoring in SAP Solution Manager. There you can find more information under https://service.sap.com/bpm --> Media Library --> Customer Information. The PPT "Business Process & Interface Monitoring - Part 2" provides a complete list of more than 200 key figures that come out of the box.
It's hard to tell what you should use if you don't specifiy the things I mentioned in the first sentence.
Best Regards
Volker

• Integrate Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) with Oracle Forms Recognition

Hi All,
As per project requirement, I have to integrate Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) with Oracle Forms Recognition.
Does anyone have an idea how can this be achievable from OFR Verifier?
Thanks,
Moumi.

Hi All,
Apart from my previous queries, I found that there is an sample reporting program - Oracle Application Express application has been developed and tested using version 4.1 of AppExpress.
To access OFR tables I run the below script in below sequence in my local IPM environment as found in this link- http://workplacedba.blogspot.in/2012/11/ofr-odc-installation.html
Seq 1 - 01-OFR-AP-Tables_Oracle.sql
Seq 2 - 02-OFR-AP-Reporting_Oracle.sql
Seq 3 - 03-XX_ROUND_IT.fnc
Seq 4 - 04-XX_ROUNDDOWN.fnc
Seq 5 - 05-XX_ROUNDUP.fnc
Seq 6 - 06-OFR-AP-EBS-Views.sql
Seq 7 - 07-INVOICE_NUMBER_FORMATS_INS.sql
Seq 8 - 08-Insert Into Company.sql
I couldn't found the below queries in my installables -
Seq 3 - 03-XX_ROUND_IT.fnc
Seq 4 - 04-XX_ROUNDDOWN.fnc
Seq 5 - 05-XX_ROUNDUP.fnc
Seq 7 - 07-INVOICE_NUMBER_FORMATS_INS.sql
Seq 8 - 08-Insert Into Company.sql
can anyone provide me these sql scripts?
Thanks,
Moumi

• Business Activity Monitoring for BPEL Processes

Hello,
IEP is capable of monitoring real time events, Real time business event collection and processing.
In that case, can we use IEP to monitor BPEL process activities with activity data.
One very big part, the ability to provide functionality for third parties (clients like Me) to register some sort of observer to capture live BPEL process activity, is missing.
I'm trying to cover that big hole in my project. That's the reason I'm posting about BPEL process management capabilities and events.
But I got no concrete answers for that. Not every business use can be provided by any generic system.
I looked at CAM (which comes with Alaska build). But I couldn't get much info about entire picture.
Other BPEL engines, the one I have used, has the functionality to do activity monitoring and process management. (IBM Process server, Apache ODE)
Could any IEP, BPEL component developers answer any sort of solution to my use case?
Thank you
Raja

I agree that this would be very useful. If anyone can provide additional insight it would be much appreciated.

• Flat Files with BAM(Business Activity Monitoring)

I am using Flat File in my receive location and i am getting XML File in my send location.
Now I want to check the StartPortTime, EndPortTime with the help of BAM.
But I am unable to get these values in BAM portal. Is it possible to track flat files(txt files)through BAM.
Please provide me any solution as soon as possible.
Thanks in advance !

Hi Prakash,
In related to your other forum post on similar question:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a5fbff38-bff9-412a-bf02-9c0a816e52e2/flat-files-with-bam?forum=biztalkgeneral#4c53c118-fda3-44b7-8c42-5f65e034a813
There is no difference to flat-file schema and standard schema in terms of BAM tracking.
I understand that you were not able to see tracked data for flat-file schema in “BAM portal”. Can you try to see the data directly in BAM SQL-tables/view rather
than through BAM portal? Try to query the SQL-view - “bam_YourActivityName_AllInstances” (replace YourActivityName with your activity name)
order it by LastModified column. See whether your data from your flat-file has been tracked in the SQL-tables.
If you still not able to view the data in the above SQL-view:
Check event-log: check the eventlog for any warning. Generally BAM errors
are logged as warning.
Check
TDDS_FailedTrackingData:
Check
TDDS_FailedTrackingData table. The TDDS_FailedTrackingData table gets populated whenever there is a tracking failure
TDDS_FailedTrackingData.
Enable TDDS: I hope you have enabled
BizTalk Host/Host Instance configured to run
“Tracking Data Decode Service (TDDS)" in your environment, because you can see data from other Receive Locations.
Check deployment & restart host instance/IIS:
Then only thing I would doubt is about your deployment of Tracking Profile of the flat-file schema. Ensure the Tracking Profile for the flat-file schema has been deployed properly.
Also ensure you have restarted your host instance or IIS (if it’s under isolated host) for your deployment to take effect.

• BPM 11g integration with Business Activity Monitoring

Hello,
I'm trying to implement business indicators in a new project in Jdeveloper, and i want see the business indicators in the BAM portal, i alredy configure the BAM adapter in the IBM console and make all settings described in the tutorial, but when i run the process and the process try save the business indicators into the BAM, in the console throws an exception.
I follow the instructions and create a data object with the name BI_default_nameProject_nameProcess and create the business variables with the prefix METRIC_nameBI in the Jdeveloper exist the same busines indicators.
I dont understand, i think the mistake is when the BPM try to update or insert into the BAM table (BI_default_nameProject_nameProcess)
My trouble is only with the business indicators what i create in Jdeveloper the other default indicators is OK (Component, Counter and Interval)
Thanks

Dear All,
I would like to understand steps or methdology, to implement monitoring of Integration process in ODI 11g so that business users can monitor the success and failure of the scheduled process in production environment..
Thanks and Regards

You are looking for OdiConsole.
Oracle Data Integrator Console is a web-based console for managing and monitoring an Oracle Data Integrator run-time architecture and for browsing design-time objects.

• Livecycle Business Activity Monitoring - realtime

hi
I installed BAM on my dev server following the documentation ADOBE.and till now everything is OK
Once connected to the dashboard I can see all processes with a few metrics already.
but when I try to invoke some process to see if I have some new information in my dashboard .
I noticed that BAM could not retrieve any information.
My question :
Should i do something special (create/conf)??
why I can not see the information in real time ????
Kind regards
Naoufal

First thank you for your reply
All my orchestrations (processes) are long-lived and I checked that my processes have the option BAM - auto dashboard generation.
so please if u have any idea/suggestion i'll be grateful.
Yours

• Help Required IN Business Process Monitoring?

Hi,
i have few clarifications reg BPM in solution Mangager
1.What is monitored in BPM,Business Process interfaces or the business Process data( at does t monitors at data level)?
2.if interfaces are monitored in Solman BPM,how different it is from Netweaver Business process management.?
3.if possible can anyone brief out what XI process monitoring is and how is it different from SOLMAN BPM?
helpful answers rewareded
rgds,
rajesh

Hello Rajesh,
please refer to https://service.sap.com/bpm --> Media Library --> Customer Information --> "Business Process & Interface Monitoring - Part 2" to get a comprehensiver overview about what is available out-of-the-box for BPMon in SolMan.
BPMon in SolMan and BPM in Netweaver adress different target groups and can be seen a complementary functionalities.
BPMon in SolMan is primarily targeting at the 2nd level application support and should ensure a stable and smooth processing of Business Processes from a technical as well as application perspective. The processes have a granularity down on transaction or background job level.
Technical monitoring could be average response time of a transaction or a job cancellation.
Application monitoirng is providing about the throughput numbers of documents like sales orders, deliveries or backlog figures indicating that there are erronuous documents or documents that need manual intervention. Looking at this last aspect it is clear that a second target group is key players on business unit side, like sales reposnibles, plant owners etc.
On interface side you can monitor IDocs, qRFCs, Batch Input session for certain statuses, check if files arrived or do some XI messaged based alerting.
BPM in Netweaver is a technical layer deeper and based especially on XI/PI. So this is an integration engine itself. When you look at the capabilities of XI/PI where you can split or correlate messages with ccBPM this is related to so called integration processes which could be a more detailed sub-process from what is looked at BPMon in SolMan. Other aspects that BPM in Netweaver is supports is Business Activity Monitoring BAM which cannot easily explained with a few sentences. But here the target groups with BAM are either real business end-users or C-level management for business efficiency analysis.
Hope this answer could clarify a few things.

How do I uninstall SyncMate Server, Activity Monitor shows it still there after appzapper uninstall of SyncMate app? Killing in AM proceeds with a SyncMate Server startup again??
Mavricks, MacbookPro, typical config of everything and standard business user, no heavy graphics, animation or media editing. MS Office, web apps, etc.
I have the same issue with Logmein, which I installed a trial, uninstalled with appzapper, which I thought does a good job of untangling the components of apps but for these 2 it doesn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thx,

Usually applications like these have their own uninstallers, either build into the installer ( ! ) itself or as a separate uninstaller app. Check the site of the software provider for instructions.
Here's the instructions for SyncMate: http://wiki.eltima.com/user-guides/syncmate-mac-os/uninstall.html

• Queries on Business Process Monitoring (BPM) & Interface Monitoring

Dear all,
I have got a few queries on the subject and would greatly appreciate any valuable inputs.
Before I proceed, want to clarify that I have downloaded all overtly available documents (PDFs, SIMs) from the following URLs:
http://service.sap.com/rkt-solman
http://service.sap.com/solutionmanager Media Library
http://service.sap.com/bpm Media Library
I may not have read them all though since I come from a Functional angle.
Kindly reply to whatever query you can please. Not all of them are sequential.
Queries:
(1) How are Interfaces with External Systems (beyond the firewall of the enterprise) monitored ?
(2) Is it really worth listing all such External Systems as Logical Components in their own right ? I guess this makes sense if at a Process Step level, one wants to list a 'specific' Logical Component involved instead of 'generic' term like External System. However, it would benefit only if Interface Monitoring is feasible; isn't it ?
(3) There are Interfaces which are built between SAP and External System and serve various Business Processes under various Business Scenarios. In such circumstances, it is not easy to list which Process 'owns' the Interface. Therefore, under a normal Implementation Project structure (SOLAR02), choosing a particular Process Step, getting into 'Development' Tab and listing the Interface Program name may not be feasible, since there is no particular place where it belongs.
Is it therefore a good idea to create namesake Scenario for capturing all interfaces and list a library of all interfaces and store documents right there ? If so, will these namesake processes be of any use in BPM at a later date ?
(4) If my primary objective is to accomplish Interface Monitoring and not Business Process Monitoring per se, is it a good idea to create a new Solution Landscape, and manually create Business Processes that are suited to list Interfaces than to assign Template or Implementation Project to the Solution Landscape, and inherit those Processes ?
(5) What is it that a SAP Competence (Support) Centre will find as a 'major' gain in activating BPM to monitor Interfaces alone - is there something that SolMan's BPM based Interface Monitoring gives more than what PI level reporting may provide them with ?
(6) In Interfaces with Non-SAP Systems (some of them are old/ proprietary legacy systems with Credit Card companies; some of them are like 'Active Directory' servers), is it possible to define Metrics for BPM that such systems will contribute to SolMan, for reporting purposes ? Or, is it too much to hope for
Thanks again, for your patience and advance thanks for your kind responses.

Hi,
Welcome to BPM
You have asked too many questions in a single Post, Please read rules of engagement before posting
You can monitor the following without any trouble.
● ALE/EDI
● qRFC
1) Its obvious, if your firewall blocks all your request to external enterprise, it is not possible to monitor.
3) These interfaces are not the one related to development tab in SOLAR02, you have to map them from BPM.
4) Yes, you don't have to depend on any project for your processes, you can add it in your Solution Landscape.
5) Post a Separate Thread!!!

Hope this gives a better idea.

• Business Process Monitoring - Application Monitoring help.

Hi all,
Through Business Process Monitoring, I am trying to configure monitoring on table NAST, so that an alert will be generated for Billing documents print outputs (application=V3, transm. medium=1) on specific message types, if the processing status is equal to either 0 (not processed) or 2 (incorrectly processed).
I have configured this through application monitoring, using the 'Messages (Output Determination)' monitoring object. Under this, was able to configure the 2 key figures of "unprocessed messages" and "incorrectly processed messages" with the parameters mentioned above (application and message type).
I set the yellow alert threshold to 1, and the red alert threshold to 2, as I want to be notified each time a print output goes into status 0 or 2, and that a red alert be generated in the case where 2 or more print outputs are not successful.
However, upon activation of this monitoring, I came across the following issue: The table NAST already has over 40 historic entries of unprocessed and incorrectly processed messages for these message types. The monitoring is picking up all these entries right away, and therefore a red alert is being generated.
There does not appear to be a way to configure the monitoring to only look for new entries in the table matching the criteria, e.g. look for billing docs with status = incorrectly processed during the last 24 hours. It seems that unless the existing entries in the table NAST are either deleted or have their status changed to "processed", the monitoring will always pick up these entries and report a red alert, even if no new entries are discovered.
Does anyone know how a way of configuring a date range with this type of monitoring, or do I have to modify the existing entries in the table (either delete them, change their status or set the "disregard" indicator on the messages in the table) before this monitoring will work as I hoped it would?
Secondly - a more general point - although there are lots of good documents on configuring Business Process Monitoring, I have not yet found one which gives full details on all the different types of application monitoring available, and how each of them can be configured. I know that within Application Monitoring, when you choose a monitoring type, the grey box at the top half of the screen gives some good information on what the monitoring does and how to configure it, but a document which captures all these monitoring types in one place would be very useful - if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it!
Thanks in advance for any help with the first issue above,
Regards,
John

Hi John,
you get an overview about all available key figures in the PPT "Business Process & Interface Monitoring - Part 2" under https://service.sap.com/bpm --> Media Library --> Customer Information. It lists all Monitoring Object and Key Figures with Select-Options. There is no document that describes the setup of every key figure as the setup is too similar for most objects. Therefore the grey text boxes within the tool.
The NAST collector will always pick-up everything older than x days. So you would have to process or delete the olde entries. But it is a good advise that for this rather technical key figure we should think about a delta mechanism like with our IDOC or ABAP dump monitor.
Best Regards

• Activity Monitor has stopped working

Hi,
My Activity Monitor has suddenly stopped working. Everytime I click on the icon in my dock or in Utilities nothing happens (icon in the dock bounces a couple of times then does nothing).
I find this program helpful but can't use it! Do I really have to reinstall Tiger again?
Many thanks

Hi there,
Many thanks. That worked a treat! I'm back in business.
Try opening the Activity Monitor again, and then open
the Console application in the
/Applications/Utilities folder and look for lines
relating to the Activity Monitor. If you see a
message that a tool was not setuid root, use the Disk
Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to
repair your permissions. If you see another message,
post back with the text of that message.

• Time effort to implement Business Process Monitoring

hi,
if one company want to utilize Business Process Monitoring and implement it:
1). what are the Prerequisite
2). if the Prerequisite are met and we come to BPMon part how long it would take to implement one Scenario.
3). any document or links or hints for BPMon Best Practice?
Regards

Hi Volker,
This comment was part of document - Business Process Monitoring Set-up and User Guideline for Release ST 4.0 and ST-SER 700_2007_1.
3 Prerequisites for Business Process Monitoring
Business Process Monitoring is not just activated by pressing a button in the SAP Solution Manager and
therefore the configuration of Business Process Monitoring is currently not intended as a customer selfservice.
Instead, the procedure to set up Business Process Monitoring in the SAP Solution Manager is rather
realized by the delivery of the SAP Solution Management Optimization (SMO) Service for Business
Process Management due to the complex nature of the overall configuration of Business Process Monitoring.
However, it is possible (but not recommended) for customers to configure Business Process Monitoring by
themselves without any guidance of SAP.
Thanks.

• Activity Monitor Frozen for Days

It's me again. Begging for help. I know how to use the Activity Monitor, and it works well. But this is a problem I haven't seen.
Three days ago, I made the mistake of clicking on the "Sample" button for Classic FTP, which was not working at all.
Since that time, I have had a message that says:
Sample of Classic FTP
Please wait while the sample is taken.
I have not been able to shut my computer down since. Not by using the Shut Down option, and not even by turning the machine off and back on.
I'm sure the answer is simple, but I can't figure it out.
Help!

Thank you!
The Activity Monitor was not available, as it was too busy trying to pull up that sample. But your instructions on how to turn if off via the Power Button (DUH!) was what I needed.
Mac is too intuitive for an old PC-user like me!
Thanks.
