Business Area control
We are using Business area control for the reporting of Balance sheet items per business area. Usually we will use the field status group code to assign to the GL Acct master (FSS0) to control that the account has to fill up the Business Area code as a required field. This controls works fine for all our transactions except for the bank account. We have only one bank account used by multiple division which is recognised by different business area codes. So when we perform payment using F110 the business area is left blank and when posted will be blank as well. The question is there anyway that we can default the business area at trx level during F110 for better reporting options.
Other alternatives that we had looked at was the balance sheet reclassifications F.5xxx series but its more work and it cant capture data at source trx level , therefore cant have a good reporting option as well.
Hello,
Based on the given information, it seems that such problems arise due to poor definition of business area / application of concept of business area. The concept of business area is best applied and utilised (with least amount of errors / problems), if it is used for Branch Accounting, which is well known accounting technique in the world of conventional financial accounting.

Control OB52 per Business Area
Hi All,
We are having multiple Business areas under 1 company code. Any idea on how to control posting period per business area? Thx
Best Regards,
KawiThe variants in OB52 are at the compamy code level. You can take these down to GL account level, customer, vendor and materials. If you can segrgate based on that you have your control.
Being more creative, you might be able to build some special validation that reads a custom table and if there is a period xx for business area xxx then it gives a message. Totally custom and I would not do this unless I absolutely could not use standard stuff. -
Controlling access of Plus users to other Business Areas
We are starting to roll out Discoverer Plus/Viewer on our campus. The following scenario concerns us. We give the Registrar the create/edit query privilege in the administrator, and he works in the REGISTRAR business area. The HR director, who works in the HR business area, decides to build a workbook with a nice report about student employees which she shares with the Registrar. Since the create/edit privilege seems to be associated with the user (Registrar), when he opens the workbook he also has access to the rest of the HR business area, by creating a new sheet and grabbing items from anywhere in the HR business area.
We had hoped to have something that worked more like this. Power users could create interesting workbooks and share them across campus to folks in other areas, and only be sharing the contents of the sheets themselves. It appears that they would also be sharing their entire business area with any other Power User (someone with create/edit query privilege). In other words, we want some users to be Power Users in their own business area and just a Viewer in any other BA.
Are we missing something? If not, then why isn't the create/edit query privilege associated with a business area? How can an organization with multiple business areas use the workbook sharing facility without compromising BA data?
Thanks.Hi CDA
You're not understanding the way Discoverer works. The lowest level of security control that can be applied inside Discoverer is at the business area level. Thus if a user has access to any part of a business area then they have access to the whole business area. This is done by your administrator using TOOLS | SECURITY from the Administration menu bar.
The privileges that can be set using TOOLS | PRIVILEGES control what a user can do with the data that they have access to (remember that access itself is at the business area). Thus if a user has the Create / Edit workbook privilege and they have access to two business areas then they have that privilege for both business areas and create or edit workbooks to their heart's content in both of them.
Further, and I think this is where you may be getting confused, you have to understand that an end user cannot grant the privilege for another end user to have access to their business area simply by sharing a workbook. The act of sharing a workbook does not share the access rights. In order for one user, aka the Registrar, to be able to run a workbook that was created by another user, aka the HR director), the Registrar must already have been granted access to the HR business areas by the Discoverer administrator. If a user does not have access to a business area but does have access to a workbook from that business area then they will not be able to execute the workbook.
It therefore sounds like you do not have security under control.
Best wishes
Michael
BTW: Are you using the SunGard Banner system by any chance, and are you using the ODS? If this is the case, you may be interested in knowing that my company has partnered with SunGard Higher Education to bring Discoverer training and consulting to their customers. -
Business Area (GSBER) control in Automatic Payment Program
Hi everyone,
I'm implementing a payment process in a company in which I have to different Business Areas and Payments are processed separately but both use transaction F110.
How can I restrict a Business Area to create a proposal just with documents of its own and not with documents of the other Business Area?
Authorization Objects are the only solution? Which?
Thanks!Thanks Gaurav
That may be an option but still depends on the user. If he forgets to settle de Business Area as an additional selection he may pay invoices of the other Business Area.
Is there any way to default those Additional Values for certain users?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks again -

When i will doing Goods Receipt with rreference to po number its triggered error message in :Message No F5808 Field business Area is a Required field for G/L account 1180 300000 . for only particular line item 47 material shown error..
i checked all the settings in MM Automatic determination And G/L element, field variants, posting keys.. but everything configured profer settings..why particulat materail it shown error? how to resolve this error?Hi Thiru,
A somewhat late aswer, but it might be helpfull for other users with the same problem. You can solve this problem by assigning the division/valuation area to the business area. Follow the path below to execute this:
SPRO - enterprise controlling - Consolidation - Integration: preparation for consolidation - Preparation in the sender system - Further settings for Business Area Consolidation - Materials Management - Assign Division/Valuation Area to Business area.
Under Enterprise structure - Assignment - Logistics General, you will find a similar function. First execute option 1 or 2 here and then execute option 3. This makes it work as well, exept that it will not be recorded in a proper transport. The first option I gave for assigning is properly transportable.

Cost centre without business area
Hi All,
I have document splitting with business area and profit centre mandatory, along with this i have configured business area wise FSV in OBY6.
We have configured 10 business areas and 5 profit centres, but i have created cost centres without business area and i dontwant to create cost centres with business area becoz junk master data in system and no control to users. also i have done configuration in OKB9 for automatic posting expences account with the combination of valuation area-business area- & cost centre, but when we are posting any financial document though MM or SD transactions like PGI or MIGO for service, system is not allowing to post financial document without business area cost centres. Error "Business Area XXXX / Cost centre XXXX is not assigned".
After all analysis i came to know that, if we have cost centre with business area then only we can move with this set of configuration. Is it right?
In No. what need to be done. basically we dont want to create cost centres for all Business Area
Thanks in Advance,
SahilHi,
If you are not ready to maintain BA in CC master you should write Substitution / you should maintain derivation rule for deriving business area.

Difference between Business area and profit center accounting
Hi Frnds,
Can any body explain about difference between business area and profit center accounting .Hi
Business area will have many profit centers. For example Vehicle is a business area in a company. Vehicle can be cars and Bikes etc. Here Vehicle is business area and Cars and Bike are profit centers. In broad Vehicle is a profit center. But as it has sub areas those are profit centers. So profit centers cannot be replaced with business area and vice versa. We can replace business area by Profit centre, only condition is that it should be in same controlling area. The business area is more like a business unit of a company. You can have multiple profit centers within a business area.
Main distinguish factor is that distribution and assessment in possible in profit center but not in business area.
One more distinction is that Business area need not be attached to any organisation structure. But profit centres can be created only under the controlling area. Business area can be across controlling area.
Business area concept is used for making stragic decisions by the management whereas the primary purpose of profit centre accounting is responsibility accounting.

Printing of cheque under company code instead of business area
hai sap gurus
pls help us in this issue
At the time of running automatic payment program separate cheques were printing to a single vendor as per business area, now the client is asking that single cheques is to be issue to the vendor under company code instead of business area wise, but the same vendor is supplying the material to those business area. Can we make the settings as per the requirement?
many thanks in advance
bye for now
kishoreDear Kishore,
I understand that your company wants to pay a vendor one cheque irrelevant of multiple business area transactions. If my understanding is correct, this can be handled by removing the tick in pay per business area
Step
transaction code - FBZP
Tab - Paying company code.
Control Data - Remove the tick from Seperate payment per business area.
Hope this helps you.
Regards,
Nathan. -
Dear All
We recently got upgraded to ECC 6. In our company we created proposal for vendor payment and send it to each BU control after taking the proposal by business area. Now we are switching on to New GL with the document splitting functionality. We have cases where we have expenses of different business area but we book vendor liability in one business area. This was ok in classical general ledger. now if we activate new general ledger and with document splitting then we should not enter business area in vendor line item. and with the help of document splitting system splitting gl for liability based on expense propotion. But if we see vendor line item it will be without business area. We wonder in this case how we prepare payment proposal by business area
RegardsHi,
I think the problem is caused by missing customizing that required in activating New GL. After activating the new GL, you also need to activate the inheritance.
So, If you create a document of Customer or Vendor invoice from Revenue or Expense item, the entities such as Business area, segment or Profit center will be projected to the customer/Vendor and tax line item in General ledger view by activating inheritance field.
The menu path is follow:
General Ledger Accounting (New)> Business Transactions>Document Splitting-->Activate Document Splitting
Tick the inheritance field.
Please try.
Thanks,

Trial balance Business area wise
Hi All,
Can any one give me replay for business area wise trial balance.
I try to same t code than after also business area wise trial balance geting balance
I try F.5E for posting.
What we do please give me wright solution.
Regards,
seemaHello
Please check FS10N
Give the all GL accounts , Company code , Fiscal year , business area(one business area each time)
then findout the difference in each business area
then pass one entry to off set the difference to control accounts
Ex:
only 3 business areas are there A,B and C
100 debit is more than credit for all the GL accounts together for Business area A
60 credit is more than debit for all the GL accounts together for Business area B
40 credit is more than debit for all the GL accounts together for Business area C
for the above case you can pass one FI document like
Control account(ex 900000) Business area B 60 (debit)
Control account(ex 900000) Business area C 40 (debit)
to Control account(ex 900000) Business area A 100 (credit)
after the above entry debit and credit both are equal for all the three business areas
You have to convince the client and saying that system also doing the same
Thanks

Business Area vs. Profit Center Accounting
Hi all,
I have a doubt regarding this issue.
Our customer is a holding composed by 3 legal entities, each one with its own Balance Sheet. The company produces in such a way that they need to plan production and purchases globally (for the 3 legal entities).
I searched how to deal with this, and if a create 3 different company codes it is really difficult to plan production and purchases for the 3 company codes globally. The most suitable solution would be to use STO process (stock transfer orders), but the purchases would be done by only one company code and this is not what the customer wants because only this company code would have tax credits.
I am now thinking about having one company code divided into 3 different business areas or profit centers, but I am not sure which solution will be better, taking into account that each legal entity must submit a separate Balance Sheet. In Sap Help, I found that it is better to have different business areas if each organizational unit must submit external presentatios. But I was told that Profit Center Accounting came to replace Business Area. Is that right? May I use Business Area to do so or Profit Centers ? Which one is the most reccomendable?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Florencia.hi,
if u r setting as a business area, still u need to follow the reporting procedures to the local authorities, such as banks, tax, etc. but,if u do it as a profit center,it will come under ur internal entity (controlling), and for the local authorities,ur holding entity will take care of reporting, etc.
thanks.. -
Business area and profit centre
Friends,
Please tell me difference between profit center and business areas. If reporting can be done using both of them in similar fashion, why can't only one of them be used, instead of using both of them?
There should be a logical distinction between them, please explain that.
Thanks,
AHi,
1. Main distinguishing factor is that Distribution or assessment within profit center can be done for allocation of overheads.
No such allocation functionality is possible within Business area.
2. Hierarchical structure for profit center can be created.
Hierarchical structure for business area is not possible.
3. Business area does not need to be attached to any organization structure.
But profit centers can be created under the controlling area.
4. PCA helps to arrive at profitability of business unit
Business area is used to segregate FI transactions pertaining to various
5. Profit Center Accounting as the Product manufactured.
Business area would have been useful only when the Areas of Business are Different.
6. Business area concept is used for making strategic decisions by the management whereas the primary purpose of profit center is accounting.
7. PCA would be much more suitable. You may need some derivation rules for Populating Profit centers, but it would be much more easier than using Business area and reconciling FI-CO on monthly basis.
8. The main difference between profit centers and business areas is that profit centers are used for internal management whereas business areas are geared more towards external purposes.
9. Business area satisfies accounting purpose while Profit Center satisfies CO purpose.
10. Business area was used as function oriented (e.g. SALES, ACCOUNTING etc)
as per old school where we used to separate B/S as per functionality. But Profit Center is more related with group of products or COS (COGS) view.
