Business connector migration

Hello ,
We are planning to migrate BC 4.8 from one server to another with different Suse Linux to RedHat Linux.
1.We are wondering how the BC 4.8 can be migrated.?
2.What are the required information to migrate..?
3. Do we need to take export of any configuration or file system level data?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Hari

Hi,
Make sure that u have the right installables for installing the BC in RedHat linux.
As far as I know BC is out dated and is not in maintenance so I would prefer migrating to PI instead. As the BC is web based, I guess al the configurations has to be carried out again as per the config guide.
Hope this clarifies.

    Hi Experts,
    1)Customer is using Business connector  with R/3 46C .
    2) Now R/3 4.6C  will be Upgraded to ECC6
    3) We need to first find out if the BC will work with ECC6 or not. If not we will need to give them the Approach for BC to XI Migration.
if XI has to be used what will happend to the interfaces running in BC ...is their any way that we can use that in XI and work....
or ...we need to do developmet from the scrach...

  • Delta between Business Connector 4.8 and 4.7

This seemed like the most logical place to put my post so here it goes..
We are assessing our options for replacing/upgrading existing Business Connector installations that will shortly be out of support (OSS Note 571530).Whilst researching our options I have come across OSS Note 1094412 which describes a new version of 4.8 becoming available in July 2008.
Information on BC4.8 is virtually non-existent on the web - can anyone provide me with details of the delta between 4.7 and 4.8, licensing structure, hardware requirements, support/maintenance strategy and ease of migration from 4.6/4.7 to 4.8?
As an aside it is very interesting that SAP has chosen to provide BC 4.8, presumably to ensure BC can continue to runs on supported O/S' and Java environments, when SAP XI/PI is being touted as the de facto integrator for companies with a significant SAP presence. Maybe customers are not quite as keen to move on/remove their BC instances as SAP would hope...

    Hi Daniel,
We have been on this topic for years (some vested interest through product development).
What seems to have happened, from what we can gather, is that Netweaver XI/PI uptake hasn't happened as fast as initially hoped (SAP was looking at an intial end of life of Dec 2004 for BC).
The case is quite simple. BC is free, easy to install and maintain. XI/PI, new product, takes a while to stabilize, much more feature rich, but at the same time more complex and less performing (and did I mention the license cost?).
What we know about BC 4.8 and this is purely based on talking to people and reading about it, we have not seen / tested BC 4.8 ourselves - Mainly a platform upgrade, no significant changes. Most likely free as well (the original contract states that if SAP charges money for BC they have to pay extra to Webmethods / Software AG) accordingly. I would expect to see a few new built-in function and hopefully some hooks into standard SAP monitoring tools.
I think you hit the nail on the head. We have seen customers panic and move to non-Netweaver platforms from BC to be on a supported solution (back when EOL was imminent before 4.8 was released). Why non-Netweaver? Because many customers use non-SAP Integration Products as well and they tend to drift to known solutions instead of trying to manage the risk of migrating to a unfamiliar product.
I would not expect any major changes that would make migration to 4.8 hard. If there would be some major issues then that would signal some significant developments from SAP and that would be a strange thing at this point of the product lifecycle.
End of life for BC 4.8 is in 2012 or thereabouts if I remember correctly, this was part of some note which was released/updated towards the end of last year.
You might want to make some design calls if you continue developing your integration scenarios on BC. The best format to allow for an easy / relatively painfree migration to PI one day is by using BC graphical MAPS where possible, NOT XSL maps as wrongfully indicated in so many previous posts and articles. XSL is the hardest format to migrate to PI even though it might look superficially as a compatible format...
    Cheers

  • SAP XI over Business connector

    Hi All,
As everyone is aware that SAP Business connector is no longer supported by SAP and XI has replaced it in quite many places.
I would like to know the advantages of XI replacing Business connector in a project scenario. Also any disadvantages that XI still has over BC?
I would like to have the reply in detail as this is required for suggesting XI as a replacement for BC.Also the cost benefits highlighted would be of great help.Inputs for this query would be highly appreciated and rewarded.
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi Ramya & others,
we at Lost Bearings International have brought the BC2XI(TM) to the market and together with partners delivered successful migrations to XI using it as the underlying platform.
We are currently working on Version 2 of the migration platform to allow for a more scalable use for 100+ BC project migration scenarios at larger customer sites as well as a more generic migration process which will assist in migrations from other EAI platforms to XI on top of the current BC to XI one.
Best way find out more is to contact us directly through http://www.lostbearings.com/exponent/index.php?section=3 and we can discuss the evaluation steps to give you an idea about cost & time savings you can achieve through the BC2XI service offering.
Unfortunately the information on http://www.bc2xi.com is a bit outdated at the moment, but this should be updated in the near future.

  • Business Connector 4.7 and EDI Module

    Hi all,
I want to use the EDI Module offered by SAP for the Business Connector. Unfortunately the SAP offered the zip file only for release 4.6 of Business Connector.
Does anyone know if it's even so possible to import the EDI module in Business Connector 4.7?
Furthermore I need a schema for EANCOM 2002 D.01B which is not included in the available download packages. Can I use standard schema files and import them in the Business Connector?
    Thanks,
    Christina

    Hi Jiri!
We are using the EDI-Module together with SAP BC 4.7 without any problems in various productive customer projects. Installation of the package does not cause any problems - functionality is the same.
By the way - as far as I know there is NO official "end-of-life" for the BC stated so far. In many cases a "migration" to XI is currently NOT necessary / wanted by our customers.
    Regards, Andy

  • Business Connector or XI?

    Hi,
for a small german payroll (HR) system it's necessary to have the B2A process for LSTA/LSTB (ELSTER) and ELENA active. Yet we realized that with R/3 4.6C and Business Connector 4.8.
Now my question: Do we have to install and configure the XI component after upgrading from R/3 4.6C to ECC (ERP) 6.0 or is it possible to work on for a bit longer with the Business Connector 4.8.
    Thanks in andvance
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
we have also migrated our German HR environment from 4.6C into the central ERP 6.0 system and since then we run the B2A process in the ERP 6.0 system with Business Connector 4.8 - there was no need to implement XI.
According to PAM the end of mainstream maintenence for BC4.8 is end of 2017.
    Regards

  • Business Connector 4.8: predefined users "SAPUser" and "Default" ?

When installing SAP Business connector 4.8., besides user "Administrator", "Developer", "Replicator" there are also predefined users "SAPUser" and "Default".
Are these  2 users needed, when the BC is used for Elster ?  If not, should the users be locked or at least get a new password after fresh installation ?
    Kind regards,
    Uta

    Hello Marco,
as I have used the transferpackage (see migrationguide BC) to transfer all settings from an old BC (Rel. 4.7) to new BC 4.8, all BC-users including the passswords are now like on the old BC. But what would be, if a fresh BC is installed without migration ?
I have already looked into the adminguide  but the information could be more detailed.
    User=Default
    Groups=Everybody, Anonymous
Description= The server uses the information defined for the Default user when the client does not supply a user name and password
    User=SAPUser
    Groups= SAPUsers
Description= Used instead of the Default user, if the SAP BC is called by an SAP user that does not exist within SAP BC. The system then switches automatically to the user SAPUser as default user.
Should users Default and SAPUser get a password due to security reasons (Haven't found, if they have any password after install, because only the administrator, Developer and Replicator are mentioned for giving a new PW DIRECTLY  after installation).

    Uta

  • Business Connector vs. XI

    Hi to everyone!
For your opinion wich integrator is better, Business Connector or XI?
What will be the future of each one?
How many companies are still using the Business Connector?
Thanks a lot for your help!

<i>For your opinion wich integrator is better, Business Connector or XI?</i>
For a long-term startegic integration solution, XI is better.
<i>What will be the future of each one?</i>
SAP has stopped support of BC since 2003. And SAP recommends use of XI for organization integration needs. SAP has plans to enhance XI in coming years.
<i>How many companies are still using the Business Connector?</i>
There is no specific count. But yes, many companies r still using business connector. The companies where the integration requirements are increasing are migrating from SAP BC to SAP XI.

  • Business Connector 4.8 :upgrade

    Dear all,
I need to upgrade the SAP Business connector from version 4.7 to 4.8. I have already gone through the documents mentioned in service.sap.com/connectors, especially through the SAP BC migration guide. My concern is, customer does not wants to uninstall SAP BC 4.7 and proceed with 4.8, which is the normal procedure. They want to run both the versions together in the same server and once they are OK with 4.8, we can uninstall 4.7. The question is: Is it OK to run both the versions on same server? Is there any precaution I need to take before I install 4.8 in the same server where 4.7 is currently running? If it is OK, can I use the same transfer method which is described in migration guide to export and import the configurations?
    Thanks for your valueable comments.
    Rajeev

If installation is possible, the ports can be configured to use different onces in each server...
But as I said before, why compromising a productive box with experiments when running Business Connector is possible in a regular desktop for testing purposes.
    Thats my 2 cents
    Regards
    Juan

  • Re:Upgrading from Business Connector to Xi

    Hi Guys,
Can anybody plz help me how to upgrade from business connector ti XI
    Thanks in advance
    Hari

    Hi Hari,
If you are interested to get a free evaluation on the level of complexity of your BC projects and the amount of work required for the migration please contact us and we can perform this evaluation and estimation for you.
Our product BC2XI is the only BC to PI migration product which is [Netweaver content certified|http://www.sap.com/ecosystem/customers/directories/SoftwareISVSolutions.epx?context=21B87D61C0F646A22B2A6DB254A010CA8C9C141B7529F029910FE6FF9EEEC5A701BF20EED61AC07159D98BAA068EBE1B8C5C7665EA2226374E942CF1D2A49D202711A97F135182CC%7c681CA45EAFF1066138C1B9B28AACD541&response=shared] and the only product which you can actually see a demonstration of (go to [http://www.sisusoftware.com]). We hear about other products, but these don't seem to have any public availability (at least which one could see).
It is completely feasible to automate the migration of BC records, flows, flow elements, graphical maps, 100+ of the BC built-in functions, output templates, etc. it is just very, very complex

  • Copying a Business Connector System

    Hi,
I'm in the process of migrating our business connector system to another server. The server will be built on the original OS and Business Connector release.
Is there a way which I can just copy over the business connector settings to the new server or do I require a re-installation. How can I copy across the configuration?
    I appreciate your suggestions!
    Thanks for your assistance.

    Hi,
you can do a basic installation and then just copy the folder sapbc47 or whatever.
All the configuration will be included as it is under this folder.
    So here are the steps:
    1.make the installation
2.using file explorer rename the installed server folder lets say sapbc47
3.Copy the contents of the previous installation at the installed folder sapbc47.
All the configuration will be included.
you can start the server from windows command under sapbc47/server/bin/server.bat -log none -debug 5 or by windows services if you have installed it as a service..
