Business Content Match/Install discrepancy

Hello,
We are to the point where we want to install business content and we already have other active business content. I am looking at two contradictory presentations when it comes to the install and match buttons. 'Installing Business Content' in the SAP Library says 'If the Install indicator is not set, the object is not copied or matched. In this cse, the Match Indicator has no effect.' But, at Tech Ed 2005, in the presentation 'Guidelines for Implementing SAP NetWeaver BI Business Content in a Customer System', Scott Cairncross said that you should never check both the Install and the Match boxes. I've searched here in the forum and multiple times people have been linked to the SAP Library documentation. Can someone verify that if you want to overlay the existing active Business Content, you would check the 'Install' but if you want to merge custom modifications with new business content you would check both the 'Install' and the 'Match' boxes. And checking only the 'Match' box has no effect whatsoever?
I do appreciate all the replies and help given to everyone, I've learned a lot from this forum.
Thanks,
Diane

Hi Diane,
Have you seen this link:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/80/1a66d5e07211d2acb80000e829fbfe/content.htm
The Match indicator is set as default in order to prevent the customer version being unintentionally overwritten. If the Content of the SAP delivery version is to be matched to the active version, you have to set the Install indicator separately.
The active version is overwritten with the delivery version if
. the match indicator is not set and
. the install indicator is set.
If the Install indicator is not set, the object is not copied or matched. In this case, the Match indicator has no effect.
Hope this helps...

  • What is the use of Match(X) or Copy in Business Content Collected Obj..?

    Hi All,
In Business Content, After doing Drog nd Drop on Collected Objects, There, after Install Icon(I) we will find <u><i><b>Match(X) or Copy (M)</b></i></u> ......
Can anybody tell me what is mean by it and why and where do we use it.....?
    Please Reply me.......
    Regards,
    Kiran Telkar

    Hi Kiran,
    Match (X) or Copy
If the SAP delivery version and the active version can be matched, a checkbox is displayed in this column.
With the most important object types, the active version and the SAP delivery version can be matched.
From a technical point of view, the SAP delivery version (D version) is matched with the M version. As in most cases the M version is identical to the active version (A version) in a customer system, this is referred to as a match between the D and A versions for reasons of simplification.
When a match is performed, particular properties of the object are compared in the A version and the D version. First it has to be decided whether these properties can be matched automatically or whether this has to be done manually. A match can be performed automatically for properties if you can be sure that the object is to be used in the same way as before it was transferred from Business Content. When performing matches manually you have to decide whether the characteristics of a property from the active version are to be retained, or whether the characteristics are to be transferred from the delivery version.
    Example of an automatic match
Additional customer-specific attributes have been added to an InfoObject in the A version. In the D version, two additional attributes have been delivered by SAP that do not contain the customer-specific attributes. In order to be able to use the additional attributes, the delivery version has to be installed from Business Content again. At the same time, the customer-specific attributes are to be retained. In this case, you have to set the indicator (X) in the checkbox. After installing the Business Content, the additional attributes are available and the customer-specific enhancements have been retained automatically. However, if you have not checked the match field, the customer-specific enhancements in the A version are lost.
    Example of a manual match
An InfoObject has a different text in the A version than in the D version. In this case the two versions have to be matched manually. When Business Content is installed, a details screen appears which asks you to specify whether the text should be transferred from the active version or from the D version.
The Match indicator is set as default in order to prevent the customer version being unintentionally overwritten. If the Content of the SAP delivery version is to be matched to the active version, you have to set the Install indicator separately.
The active version is overwritten with the delivery version if
¡ the match indicator is not set and
¡ the install indicator is set.
In other words, the delivery version is copied to the active version.
If the Install indicator is not set, the object is not copied or matched. In this case, the Match indicator has no effect.
In the context menu, two options are available:
    a. Merge All Below
The object in the selected hierarchy level and all objects in the lower levels of the hierarchy are selected as to Match.
    b. Copy All Below
The Match indicators are removed for the object in the selected hierarchy level and all objects in the lower levels of the hierarchy. If the Install indicator is also set, these objects are copied from the delivery version to the active version.
    hope this helps.

    2) When a business content is installed do i need to go to modelling tab and activate it as well.
    3) if a business content is installed would all other related objects get activated automaically like its update rules, transfer rules etc.
    Thanks

    Hi Ramachandran,
    Good question,
This issue can be adressed with the "Match x or copy" option in the Business content activation screen.
Here with this option you can decide wether you need to overwrite the earlier content or not.
Follow the link for further explanation on "Match x or copy".

  • Difference between Install and Match in Business content?

How does Install and Match work in Business Content

    Hi,
    Match (X) or Copy
If the SAP delivery version and the active version can be compared, a checkbox is displayed in this column.
The active version and SAP delivery version can be compared for the most important object types.
    Caution
If you do not compare the versions, the delivery version is used and the active customer version is overwritten when you activate the BI Content.
    Note
Note that the InfoSource TRCS supports the comparison, but the 3.x InfoSource ISTD does not.
When matched, the customer version and the BI Content version of particular properties of the object are compared. It is also necessary to identify whether these properties can be matched automatically or whether this has to be done manually. If you are sure that an object will be used in the same way after you install BI Content, you can automatically match the properties of this object. When performing matches manually, you have to decide whether you want to retain the characteristics of a property from the active version, or whether you want to apply the characteristics from the delivery version.
Example Example of an automatic match:
Additional customer-specific attributes have been added to the customer version of an InfoObject. In the BI Content version, two additional attributes that do not contain the customer-specific attributes have been delivered by SAP. To be able to use the additional attributes, the delivery version has to be reinstalled from the BI Content. However, the customer-specific attributes are to be retained. To do this, you have to set the indicator (X) for matching in the checkbox. When the BI Content is installed, the additional attributes are available and the customer-specific enhancements are retained automatically. However, if you did not select the match indicator, the customer-specific enhancements in the customer version are lost.
Example Example of a manual match:
The customer version and BI Content version of an InfoObject have different texts. You therefore need to match the two versions manually. When the BI Content is installed, a detail screen appears in which you specify whether you want to apply the text from the active version or from the BI Content version.
The Match indicator is set by default to prevent you from inadvertently overwriting the customer version. If the BI Content of the SAP delivery version is to be matched against the active version, you have to set the Install indicator separately.
The active version is overwritten by the delivery version if:
&#9679;      The Match indicator is not set, and
&#9679;      The Install indicator is set.
In other words, the delivery version is copied to the active version.
    Note
If the Install indicator is not set, the object is neither copied nor matched. In this case, the Match indicator has no effect.
    Note
We recommend that you perform a match if you changed the customer version of an object.
If an error occurs when you first try to activate the BI Content, deselect the Match indicator when you next try to install the BI Content. By doing this, you can avoid inconsistencies in the modified version.

  • How to install sources for infobject from business content

    Hi,
I have 16 infobjects for which we need to move to prod and there are no connections to it but the infobjects are active and some are i modified state, like no datasources, infosources, transfer rules etc., Can you please tell me the approach to install all the necessary for them. I mean how to find and how to install, please help if any documentation is available.
    Thanks

    Hi daniel,
Inorder to  install the business object, you will be require to follow the following steps :
i)Go to RSA1 (Admistrator Workbench) for installing the Business Content. Navigate to object you want to install. Now you want to install the info object then select Info Object.
ii)Select your Info Object say 0MATL_GROUP (material Group).Click on Transfer selections.
iii)Now when the info object is selected. It will always be in default selection (Only Necessary object), Now if you want to install the various other things like data source, transformation rule etc as you specify in query
iv) For that go to grouping select IN DATAFLOW BEFORE AND AFTERWARDS. One more thing If you want to specify the Source system then u can do it by clicking on that Yellow Box (symbol specify the source system) adjacent to BEx (Truck Symbol). This mainly used for the things like transformation, update rule etc  as you want.
v)Now you want to see if there can be some predictive error then go Install  --> Simulate Installation.
vi)Now important point to note is MATCH(X) or COPY. Now suppose you already have the Material Group install in your system in Active version. Now here if you didnu2019t select the MATCH check box then your   A-version Material Group will be overwritten by the D-version Material group provided by SAP.
vii)For ur more understanding lets take the example say  you have  added two customer specific attribute to Material Group now twist is SAP has also just release the enhance material Group with two additional attribute. Now  you are very curious of getting this two attribute in your already active Material Group. For this you will be required to install the material Group from Business content. If you forget to check the Match option then your customer specific attribute will be lost. So to retain them we have to check the MATCH(X)
    Hope it will help.
    Thanks,
    Deepak Machal
