Business content upgradation risks

Hello BW xperts,
I am a newbie in SAP BW using BW version 3.1. Our client team is planning on a business content upgrade from version 3.1 to 3.2, in which I dont have any experience. They want to know what are the risks involved, especially,during situations when the standard SAP objects, being used in queries, get modified;is there a need to manually activate the objects or does it happen automatically?

Query modification problem after Business Content upgrade

Hi,
We have upgraded two systems from Business Content 3.1 to BC3.3. After the upgrade we have a problem when opening queries for modification: a dialogue window is opened and system says:
"AUTOMATIC CORRECTION
The following objects were not found when accessing server
Press 'Repair' to correct the problem (incorrect parts of the query are automatically deleted)
Press 'Cancel' to undo the last action
Missing objects:
- InfoObjects
| |- InfoObject 0HIER_VERS
- Affected Items
 |- Hierarchy version"
Strange thing is that the problem cannot be reproduced on consultants' laptops, only on clients' PC-s, so we believe there must be something about Windows/Excel security that produces the error message.
Have you ever experienced this (kind of) problem before? Do you have any idea what I should check?
I checked
 - Macro security settings in MS Excel,
 - logged on to the PC's as Administrator
 - logged on to BW with clients'/consultants' user ID's on clients'/consultants' PC's, problem appeared only on client PC-s
 - SAP GUI version (it is the same)
 - MS Excel, MS Windows version (the same)
I have also checked InfoObject 0HIER_VERS, it really does not exist in the system. But it does not exist in our Production system either, while the query is completely the same in both systems.
0HIER_VERS is a "technical attribute" (as I read in an SAP documentation - however, I don't really understand this term), it is attached to 0CS_GROUP (Consolidation group).

Business Content Upgrade Activation Procedure

Hello Everyone,
I'm looking for a procedure or best practices document that will help me with the steps I need to follow when activating business content due to an upgrade when some of the objects have already been activated and are being used in PRoduction. As an example, we upgraded our BW system to 3.5 but didn't activate any of the Business Content so everything continued to run just fine. Now we activated a new InfoArea that overlapped some of the objects that were already active. A good example is 0REGION. The DataSource in R/3 changed to use a different table for the view so new fields are now available which are actually the same as the fields that were already there but with different names. So the transfer rules show as modified/inactive. I transferred the new structure from R/3, replicated in BW, and changed the transfer rules to use the new fields. Is this the procedure that needs to be followed for any object that was put on the tranport? I've also noticed that many InfoObjects are on the transport but the only change I can see is that the content version changed so if the InfoObject didn't really have any changes, why the version change?
As I mentioned, this is the first time we've activated new content after an upgrade and I'm totally in the dark as to what the procedure should be to follow to get everything cleaned up and up to date.
When you are activating a new area, do you pick and choose which objects you want to activate/match or do you generally just activate the entire InfoCube or InfoArea?

Hi Diane,
I think you should go with infosource or may be with application component. Collect everything of that area and let the system check the already active objects so that it is not just activating the new content but enhancing already active objects with the new content features. But take care, this option is only available when you start this activation in foreground. In background there is only a overwrite mode available which might lead to a loss of developments.

BI content upgrade has overwritten the objects changes in PRD

Hi Experts,
1. If we have to upgrade the business content with a patch do we do it in PRD as well or else do we do only in DEV.
2. I have a infoobject which is a standard one but i have changed an attribute of it from display to navigational
3. but after the Business content upgrade the infoobject got changed in production but its not changed in Quality or Dev.
what could be the reason for this change and how to avoid such kind of things in future.

Changes In Business Content and Extractors after r/3 upgrade

We are in the process of upgrading from R/3 4.0b to ECC 6.0.
with the BW system bein upgraded to BI 7.0
Question.
What changes would occur for the business content and extractors after the R/3 upgrade.

Hi Nikhil
The datasources remain same, U can migrate them in BI side from 3.5 to 7.0 using RSDS -tcode.
All extractors remains same, Well it again depends on the service packs u r using.
Now the latest for BI is service pack 17 and for Business content patch is Patch 10.
U can find new datasources like 0FI_GL_14 and 0FI_GL_40 and many other queries.
In BI side
1.If you have update rules you will have to create transformations and there is no shortcut here ..if there are routines you will have to write them as well and change the syntax as some of the old syntax of 3.x is no more valid in BI 7.
2.Data loading concept changes as you can bypass the Infosource(but in few places you will need it actually like when you are directly loading from datasource to target and you want to read master data).
3.DTPs will be required..changes in the Process chains for the same.
4.Datasources need migration(first emulate them and test whether the Bi 7 loaidng is working or not otherwise if you migrate you will loose your transfer rule.

BB Balance - long delay after switch to/unlock business content after Upgrade to 10.2

Dear All,
we're using Z10 with BES10.1.3, everything run smoothly but we've one issue:
since we have upgraded Z10 device software from 10.1 to 10.2.0.1791 there is a delay of about 12-15 seconds each time we unlock device to business content until we see messages in BB-Hub
to explain, business content is locked - we type in password - OK
display switch to empty hub - then we have to wait 12-15sec. until messages will appear in hub
We've tried out different things, we've wiped device, we've deleted business content and regarding email account, activated device new on BES10, wait 2 days that basic syncronisation will be done and same issue.
Can you help us please, we don't know what we should try out any more...Blackberry Hub and the fast check of new incoming messages is one of the main features of Z10...thanks in advance.

Business Content activation and change - BI upgrade

Hi Colleagues,
I am working on a project on which one.
1. Developpers have activated SAP BI business content.
    and for minor changes, they will directly modify the business contents infoprovider.
As example.
1. They will activate 0IC_C03 Material Stcks/Movements (as of 3.0B)
2. They will change cube structure :
   - Add a material plant dimension with 2 characteristic inside.
    - Add additional field in a existing dimension : 0company_code inside Location Dimension.
I always have worked on project on which one we made a copy of the business content infoprovider before to change it.
QUESTIONS :
I would like to know what is the impact of changing directly the infoprovider of the business content ?
Is there an issue with BI upgrade ?
Is there any SAP BI recommendation regarding system development to minimize impact on BI upgrade ?

It's always better to use BC Objects as template if you want to do any customizations to the standard objects.
For any reason if someone again installed bc for the same object ,assume person doesn't check match option ,so the std object will overwrite the existing active version and as a result the customizations for the object will be lost
As far as I know there won't be any impact , I do not have any doc but you can search in forum

BI Business content in BI 7.0 flow

Is there any place where the release plan for BI Content is available?
The basic thing that I want to know is when will be the BI 7.0 Version of Business Content be available? This would help in deciding to activate the current BW 3.5 flow or wait for BI 7.0 flow.
I am planning to implement the Business Content for Plant Maintenanace (PM). I know that now the content is in BW 3.5 version, but no idea when will it be available in BI 7.0 flow.

My question is whether SAP is providing the Business Content for PM in BI 7.0 flow or not? We have to install the Business Content on BI 7.0 system. So if SAP is providing the content in 7.0 we will install that directly and enhance it when required.
Otherwise we have to install the 3.5 content and then upgrade to BI 7.0 flow as and when we modify/enhance the content. The only problem here is we will have to understand the custom routines in the content and migrate them to BI 7.0.
I hope you understand the requirement.

Datasources in 3.X in a new BI 7.0 Business Content Activation

Hi all,
When Installing Business Content for a BI 7.0 Installation, some objects like Datasources, Transfer Rules and Communication structures are activated under 3.X format.
Is there a way to install all Business Content in 7.X format, different from a migration process (which is a manual process)?
Does this extractors (3.X) have any performance issues in case of use them exactly as they are delivered from Business Content?

I understand that a migration process can be executed to old 3.X datasources, but this is a manual process.
My point here is that the activation of a brand new business content of an Instalation NW 7.01 enhancement package 1 and with a Bussines Content Release = BI Content Add-On 4 SP 03 have some elements (datasources) in 7x Version (transformations and DTP´s) and some others in the old 3.x version (transfer Rules and communication structure).
In the moment of ACTIVATING the Business Content, there is not an option to migrate, but the standard Business Content delivered for this scenario is sometimes 7x, and sometimes 3x (i.e. CO_OM_CCA extractors).
I need some documentation to point that, besides some best practices of regular UPGRADES, the STANDARD deliver of a business content of this scenario contains both 7X Datasources and 3X Datasources.

BI Content Upgrade Question

I am sure that I will get answer to my question.
We are currently on Add on Package BI Content 3.5.2 on SAP Netweaver04.
As per SAP Recommendation if we are going for BW 3.5 SP19
then we should have BI Content 3.5.3.
We need to know that when we upgrade BI Content 3.5.3 from BI Content 3.5.2 ->>>>> will it overwrite all existing BW objects including standard SAP delivered objects(Infoobjects,Infosurces,ODS, Infocubes etc). These existing SAP delivered BW objects are enhanced or modified by us in our BW system.
As per my understanding UNLESS I install new business content using RSA1-> Business Content the existing old content BW objects should not be overwritten by new content version.
Please help with your inputs.

According to the course material provided by SAP, you have to compare the Business Content objects with the existing objects in the A version.
1. You can change objects that were transferred from the Business Content, since only the derived A version and not the Business Content version of the objects will be changed.
2. Not all objects can be compared
3. If you do not compare the objects, the new version is transferred (copied) and the (old) A version overwritten when you activate the Business Content.

FI AR Business Content

Hi Gurus
Our Project will be having a requirements of using FI-AR BW 3.5 objects. Also there is a forthcoming BI 7.0 upgrade project. Can you provide me some details/materials on the effects of BI 7.0 upgrade from BW 3.5 in the FI-AR (e.g. 0FI_AR_4 infosources) Business Content objects (Cubes, ODS's, InfoObjects, InfoSources/DataSources)? e.g. in terms of plug-ins, transformation, delta/extraction method and etc...
Also has anyone work on 'Account Receivables: Days Agreed / Days Taken' query? If yes, can you provide me materials on specifications on that because the specifications on the help.sap.com are not complete.

0FI_AR* and 0FI_AP* all are dependent on FI_GL in BW3.5
In Bi 7.0 all are independent.
However when FI_GL*( general ledger) extractor is used a dependency is created between AR GL and AP datasources to maintain consistency

Financial statement planning / Investment planning business content

Dear all,
Has anyone actually been able to make any of the standard business content for these areas work? The content has been there for 6 years but still creates innumerable headaches. I have managed to install the BC for e.g. financial statement planning based on cube 0SEM_C06. I then loaded the data using program UPB_DATA_IMPORT. This unfortunately was not sufficient for the majority of folders to work as the BC data provided did not cover the majority of infoobjects and contained none of the necessary hierarchies. I worked through the optios entries and generated the MD and hierarchies manually (though of course I have none of the texts or attribute information). Despite doing all this I still find some of the functions do not work. There are short dumps e.g. where it searches for planning functions that do not exist in UPF_PLNTP.
I see no notes on these problems, no SDN forums suggesting other people have run into these problems. We are BW 2004S patch 9 so I can't believe it is a patch problem.
Have I missed something in the ATS are which affects the set up of the master data and the available functions?
I would be very grateful for any comments of success stories or otherwise.

Thanks for coming back to me.
We are not really intending to run using business content but want to activate it to use it as a guide on which to base our development. What I am staggered by is how difficult it has been to make it work. What I am wondering is: Are we having these problems because our system started off as a 1.2B BW system that has been upgraded all the way to 2004s? Are we missing table entries that we would have if we had started our BW system as a V 3.5 for example? If another implementation has activated all the BC without problems I will go back to OSS and ask them to provide the missing entries. If everyone has had the same problems I will soldier on.

Business Content Activation - run time error

Hi guys,
We were at plugin 2002.1. We installed PI 2002.2 and PI 2003.1 on top of it.
After the plug-in upgrade, we are at support pack 9 for SAP-BW and 13 for BI-Content. For aba and basis, we are at 620 and support pack 32.
As part of the regression testing after the 2003.1 plugin upgrade, we found out that the business content activation abends with the following run time error.
Runtime Errors SAPSQL_ARRAY_INSERT_DUPREC
Exception CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB
Looks like it is trying to insert into table RSOLTPSOURCEFIET and the row already is existing. I thought the activation process is supposed to update something if it is already out there.
If we just select the 'only necessary', the activation goes through ok, but if we select 'before and after in the data flow', we get this abend.
Any clues???

Hi Seow,
This is how I resolved it. I looked at the ST22 closely and one of the messages indicated that the number range is missing in tran SNRO for an infoObject. I created an entry for that infoobject using SNRO and tried activation and it worked.
When we created an OSS for SAP to look into it, they recommended the following two things. I tried these two but it did not work. I am mentioning them below just in case they may help you.
1) Sometimes there is inconsistency in the content cache when trying to activate objects and we have to delete the repository cache. To delete the repository cache, go to RSA1 ---> Business Content -
> Extras ---> Delete Rep Cache
2) Execute SAP_DROP_TMPTABLES program for types 1,2,3 and 6.
If this helps, don't forget to assign points.

Business content 3.30: Datasources not available for installation

Hello,
we have recently upgraded our business content from 3.10 to 3.30 in order to get new business content (e.g. datasource 2LIS_13_VDKON - billing item pricing conditions).
Although the upgrade was successful, the new datasources cannot be found in the Administration Workbench/ Business Content in order to install them.
Is there something more we should be doing after the upgrade, in order to be able to see the new Business content as available for installation?

Palvos,
You can not find the datasources in Admin workbench. Datasources can be found in R/3.
Login to your R/3 system. Go to RSA5. Expand all. Search for your datasource. Click on "Transfer Datasources" icon on tha tab. This installs your datasources on R/3 system.
Once the installation is complete, login to BW, go to RSA1, "Source Systems" tab, select your source system and 'replicate datasource' by right clicking on it.
You can install corresponding Infosource from "business content" tab in BW.

Hi,
Suppose the requirement needs one more field in the business content infocube 0PA_C01. Do I need to change the infocube or copy this infocube to another and make the appropriate changes in the new one. If I modify 0PA_C01 what will be the upgrade implications.
