Business Content Upgrade Activation Procedure
Hello Everyone,
I'm looking for a procedure or best practices document that will help me with the steps I need to follow when activating business content due to an upgrade when some of the objects have already been activated and are being used in PRoduction. As an example, we upgraded our BW system to 3.5 but didn't activate any of the Business Content so everything continued to run just fine. Now we activated a new InfoArea that overlapped some of the objects that were already active. A good example is 0REGION. The DataSource in R/3 changed to use a different table for the view so new fields are now available which are actually the same as the fields that were already there but with different names. So the transfer rules show as modified/inactive. I transferred the new structure from R/3, replicated in BW, and changed the transfer rules to use the new fields. Is this the procedure that needs to be followed for any object that was put on the tranport? I've also noticed that many InfoObjects are on the transport but the only change I can see is that the content version changed so if the InfoObject didn't really have any changes, why the version change?
As I mentioned, this is the first time we've activated new content after an upgrade and I'm totally in the dark as to what the procedure should be to follow to get everything cleaned up and up to date.
When you are activating a new area, do you pick and choose which objects you want to activate/match or do you generally just activate the entire InfoCube or InfoArea?

Hi Diane,
I think you should go with infosource or may be with application component. Collect everything of that area and let the system check the already active objects so that it is not just activating the new content but enhancing already active objects with the new content features. But take care, this option is only available when you start this activation in foreground. In background there is only a overwrite mode available which might lead to a loss of developments.

Query modification problem after Business Content upgrade
Hi,
We have upgraded two systems from Business Content 3.1 to BC3.3. After the upgrade we have a problem when opening queries for modification: a dialogue window is opened and system says:
"<i>AUTOMATIC CORRECTION
The following objects were not found when accessing server
Press 'Repair' to correct the problem (incorrect parts of the query are automatically deleted)
Press 'Cancel' to undo the last action
Missing objects:
- InfoObjects
| |- InfoObject 0HIER_VERS
- Affected Items
|- Hierarchy version</i>"
Strange thing is that the problem cannot be reproduced on consultants' laptops, only on clients' PC-s, so we believe there must be something about Windows/Excel security that produces the error message.
Have you ever experienced this (kind of) problem before? Do you have any idea what I should check?
I checked
- Macro security settings in MS Excel,
- logged on to the PC's as Administrator
- logged on to BW with clients'/consultants' user ID's on clients'/consultants' PC's, problem appeared only on client PC-s
- SAP GUI version (it is the same)
- MS Excel, MS Windows version (the same)
I have also checked InfoObject 0HIER_VERS, it really does not exist in the system. But it does not exist in our Production system either, while the query is completely the same in both systems.
0HIER_VERS is a "technical attribute" (as I read in an SAP documentation - however, I don't really understand this term), it is attached to 0CS_GROUP (Consolidation group).

Installation of Business content and activation
Hello,
Our Source system is ECC 6.0 and
BW :NW2004 S and SAP NetWeaver BI 7.0 .
We are able to create source system conection successfully . after installing the business content and replication, all the data souces in BW are still in Version D only. Do i need to select each DS individually to activate ? or am i missing any steps ?
Any help is highly appreciated ?

I was also passed this latest information from my colleagues in Product Management.
The method I explained is the old method for activating DataSources and extractors. It is still valid in SAP NetWeaver 2004s but there is a new, and easier, methid to do this now.
Also if you have followed my instructions, there is an additional change in the replication process and a decision you must make:
<i>"Once the customer has activated the DataSource via rsa5 in source system, then he/she needs to replicate this datasource to BI. During the replication, he/she is asked via pop-up whether he would like to replicate these datasources as 3.X DataSource or 7.0.x DataSource.
If he decides to replicate these datasources as 7.0.x DataSources, then the A version of this datasource will be seen in table RSDS, instead of the original table RSOLTPSOURCE.
So if the customer checked table RSOLTPSOURCE, then he/she only see the D version.
This could be the reason that customer still only see D version after the datasource replication."</i>
The new method is:
<i><b>"- If you have a 3.X datasource, during the source system connection, the D
version of DataSource is already replicated into BI.
- With transaction RSOR in BI, you need to select the related transfer rule, and via transfer rule you are able to collect the 3.X DataSource.
- Then you need to push 'install' button to activate this datasource.
- After activation, the A version of DataSource will be available in BI and in Source system.
- If you have a 7.0.x DataSource, the steps are the same like 3.X datasource. But via transaction RSOR you are able to directly select this datasource (object type RSDS).
So with BI capabilities of NetWeaver2004s technology, it's no longer nessary to run rsa5 in the source system to activate the datasource."</b></i>

Error During Business Content Query Activation- Very Urgent
Hi All,
I am trying to install few queries in business cube 0pur_c01, which is already in production and already lot many queries are running.
As per requirement i have to install New quries in the 0Pur_C01
0PUR_C01_Q0012 : Ordering Activities
0PUR_C01_Q0015 : Purchase Order Values
0PUR_C01_Q0013 : Vendor Comparison re Purchase Values
0PUR_C01_Q0004 : Values Purchase Order Delivery Invoice
0PUR_C01_Q0023 : Total and Average Order Value
Out of these five quries i am unable to install 0PUR_C01_Q0012 : Ordering Activities and geeting error message during simulate install rest queries has been installed already without any issue once i have unselected the already transported
element.
I am doing the same for query 0PUR_C01_Q0012 : Ordering Activities but getting error message

Go to Transport Connection, there click on "BEX" "Create tranport request for BEX", there insert a new row, and create a new request. This is the default request for BEX queries.
While transporting , dont tranport this request, collect the objects which you want to tranport and create a new request.

For this error, check the object in meta data repository, whether the object is in active version or not.I think this object is not in Active version thats why you are getting this error.

How to block the business content background activation
Hello!
I need to block the BC activation in background (we want to prevent the problems with overwrite the active versions of objects).
Does anyone know how to do it?
Any authorization? There is the "S_RS_ADMWB" authorization with activity "CONT_ACT" (Activation of BI Content) but I tested and does not allow to divide between online and background.

How to find out the activation log for a info* from Business content
Hi,
I work in a BW 3.5 environment where a lot of projects are being done simultaneously and a lot of Business content are getting activated. BW often activates a lot of other objects when a certain section of seemingly unrelated Business contents are activated without much caution.
When I look into some of the objects related to my area of the Business content, I find them already activated.
How do I find the activation( who, what time etc ) log history of certain objects like info objects, cubes, ODS, Infosource etc..
This will help me immensely to communicate with various people( who inadvertently activeted them) and find issues quickly.

Within Tcode SLG1 you can query systemwide object activation on various selection criteria.
Ofcourse furthermore for objects already once transported to PRD you can search transport requests or object lists via Tcode SE01.

Problem while installing a query from Business Content
Hi all of you,
I am trying to install this particular query Inventory Turnover from the cube 0IC_C03 (Material/Stock Movements) from Business Content. Now in the third pane in Business Content under Active version available column across the name of this cube there is a calendar symbol.
a. So does it mean that the cube 0IC_C03 (Material/Stock Movements) is installed along with all the objects that are dependent on the cube and all those objects on which the cube is dependent. (NOTE: I had selected the grouping option as In data flow afterwars)
b. When I collapse Query Element I find that some of the queries are not installed. So I expanded Inventory Turnover query, right clicked on it and selected Install All Below.
c. I am getting this error, Abort system error in program SAPLRRI2 and form LI_SETZEN-01- when I execute the query Inventory Turnover. However in Business Content when I installed the report Inventory Turnover under the cube Material Stock/Movement I didnt get any error anywhere. Everything was activated successfully without any errors.
Please tell me how do I install this Inventory Turnover from business content and how do I execute this report from BEx.

Thank you for that quick reply. I want to activate only the query and not the cube. I did as you advise me but still I am getting the same error when I run the Inventory turnover report from BEx.
I am able to run other reports from the cube IC_C03. But not this report Inventory turnover. I have also checked the cube and there is data in the cube.

BI content upgrade has overwritten the objects changes in PRD
Hi Experts,
1. If we have to upgrade the business content with a patch do we do it in PRD as well or else do we do only in DEV.
2. I have a infoobject which is a standard one but i have changed an attribute of it from display to navigational
3. but after the Business content upgrade the infoobject got changed in production but its not changed in Quality or Dev.
what could be the reason for this change and how to avoid such kind of things in future.

Business Content Contains IS InfoObjects ?

We are new to BI and are trying to activate some Business Content. I have choosen 1 cube and selected only necessary objects. It looks like the cube contains InfoObjects that are for industry solutions such as Retail. We don't use Retail so my communication structure does not match my transfer structure. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Should all the different Industry Solutions exist in D status in BI? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, MarkUsually you have to search for the relevant infocubes which is categorized in Business Content.
Activating business Content should be done in the following way.
Set the Collection mode "Start Manual Collection".
In Grouping Select "Data flow before".
You have to drag the 0PUR_C01 and push it right window.
Click the Gather the Objects (it will look like "Execute" Button).
By this you will get all the infoobjects,transfer rules and infsources.(I doubt whether you will get the ODS.If the update rules of 0PUR_C01 is based on ODS then you have to collect it separately.But I think this cube is updated directly.The problem is you don't know which is the ODS for a cube.You can get it from Meta Data Repository.)
You can set the source system (Yellow Button next "CTO") by which your source system assignments will be over.
select "Install in Background".
You can check the Job overview in SM37 whether the installation is over or not.
With this you will be able to do the Extraction.
For Queries and Workbooks you have to select "Data Flow after" in the grouping.
Look at the infocube and find any gaps are there and you can add those keyfigures and characteristics.
Accordingly you should modify your datasources also at the R/3.
First you have to load the master data and then Transaction data. If not you will find performance issues.
Finally award points if I my suggesstions are working.

Clarifying relationship between business content objects in R3 and BW

On R3 in SBIW, under Organizational Management, there were 3 datacources:
0HR_PA_2
0HR_PA_3
0HR_PA_OS_1

In BW, under Organizational Management, in the attempt to replicate the datasources, I found these same 3 datasources already there.
So, initially when BW was configured for the first time, did these 3 exist exactly the same as in R3 or their existence implies that someone has already performed the data transfer process in SBIW (in R3) before these 3 data sources in R3 appeared in BW?

Now, in BW, in rsa1, Business Contents, Infoproviders, under Organizational Management, in the attempt to activate the datasource, I notice that the technical name for Organizational management is 0PAOS instead of 0PA_OS in R3; and the datasources available under 0PAOS are different:
0PA_DS02
0PA_DS03
0PAOS_C01
a) Shouldnt I have see the same datasources that I replicated under BW/Business Contents for activation? The descriptions seem to be the same though.
b) Again, were these 3 (0PA ) there after the initial BW configuration or someone went through a process in BW to bring them from R3 down here?
c) Will activating these implies activation of the 0HR_ . Datasources, although they are with different technical names?

Based on your last mail, I now followed: Business Content, InfoSources by Application Component, Personnel Management Organizational Management then Organizational Management Master Data which now shows

which I was looking for. So you are right, I was looking at the wrong place. But see the instructions that I was following from SAP, it pointed me to Business Content then Data Target and that is why I chose the InfoProvider areas.
By the way this was the instructions I was following:
Activate the Structural Authorizations ODS data targets 0PA_DS02 via Business Content Activation function. (Admin Workbench -> Business Content -> Data Target -> Human Resources ->Organizational Management -> drag 0PA_DS02 to the right pane. Use Data Flow before and after option under the Grouping Icon and Install in batch on the right pane of your screen.
2. Any comment on this part of my question?
Since this is IDES, I want to remove all the datasources under Organizational Management in BW and start it afresh from R3 and get it into BW. What is the best way to remove them?

Business Content activation and change - BI upgrade
Hi Colleagues,
I am working on a project on which one.
1. Developpers have activated SAP BI business content.
and for minor changes, they will directly modify the business contents infoprovider.
As example.
1. They will activate 0IC_C03 Material Stcks/Movements (as of 3.0B)
2. They will change cube structure :
- Add a material plant dimension with 2 characteristic inside.
- Add additional field in a existing dimension : 0company_code inside Location Dimension.
I always have worked on project on which one we made a copy of the business content infoprovider before to change it.
QUESTIONS :
I would like to know what is the impact of changing directly the infoprovider of the business content ?
Is there an issue with BI upgrade ?
Is there any SAP BI recommendation regarding system development to minimize impact on BI upgrade ?
Cheers,It's always better to use BC Objects as template if you want to do any customizations to the standard objects.
For any reason if someone again installed bc for the same object ,assume person doesn't check match option ,so the std object will overwrite the existing active version and as a result the customizations for the object will be lost

Every time that I am trying to activate HR Business Contentt objects, the following error message appears:

A function module was called incorrectly.

The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_SY_DYN_CALL_ILLEGAL_TYPE', was
not caught in
procedure "OSOA_UPLOAD" "(FORM)", nor was it propagated by a RAISING clause.

Please check whether datasources are installed and active in the source system.
For remote activation you need role SAP_RO_BCTRA or authorization object S_RO_BCTRA in your profile.
If not active, you can activate via RSA5.
Afterwards, install the transfer rules again.
If you are lower than SPS8, check note 929935.

Datasources in 3.X in a new BI 7.0 Business Content Activation
Hi all,
When Installing Business Content for a BI 7.0 Installation, some objects like Datasources, Transfer Rules and Communication structures are activated under 3.X format.
Is there a way to install all Business Content in 7.X format, different from a migration process (which is a manual process)?
Does this extractors (3.X) have any performance issues in case of use them exactly as they are delivered from Business Content?

I understand that a migration process can be executed to old 3.X datasources, but this is a manual process.
My point here is that the activation of a brand new business content of an Instalation NW 7.01 enhancement package 1 and with a Bussines Content Release = BI Content Add-On 4 SP 03 have some elements (datasources) in 7x Version (transformations and DTP´s) and some others in the old 3.x version (transfer Rules and communication structure).
In the moment of ACTIVATING the Business Content, there is not an option to migrate, but the standard Business Content delivered for this scenario is sometimes 7x, and sometimes 3x (i.e. CO_OM_CCA extractors).
I need some documentation to point that, besides some best practices of regular UPGRADES, the STANDARD deliver of a business content of this scenario contains both 7X Datasources and 3X Datasources.

Business Content Activation - run time error
Hi guys,
We were at plugin 2002.1. We installed PI 2002.2 and PI 2003.1 on top of it.
After the plug-in upgrade, we are at support pack 9 for SAP-BW and 13 for BI-Content. For aba and basis, we are at 620 and support pack 32.
As part of the regression testing after the 2003.1 plugin upgrade, we found out that the business content activation abends with the following run time error.
Runtime Errors SAPSQL_ARRAY_INSERT_DUPREC
Exception CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB
Looks like it is trying to insert into table RSOLTPSOURCEFIET and the row already is existing. I thought the activation process is supposed to update something if it is already out there.
If we just select the 'only necessary', the activation goes through ok, but if we select 'before and after in the data flow', we get this abend.
Any clues???

This is how I resolved it. I looked at the ST22 closely and one of the messages indicated that the number range is missing in tran SNRO for an infoObject. I created an entry for that infoobject using SNRO and tried activation and it worked.
When we created an OSS for SAP to look into it, they recommended the following two things. I tried these two but it did not work. I am mentioning them below just in case they may help you.
1) Sometimes there is inconsistency in the content cache when trying to activate objects and we have to delete the repository cache. To delete the repository cache, go to RSA1 ---> Business Content -
> Extras ---> Delete Rep Cache
2) Execute SAP_DROP_TMPTABLES program for types 1,2,3 and 6.
