Business Object 6.5 Retain User Preference

Greetings All,
I'm currently administering a couple of box with BO65 installed. Lately, my customer are complaining that their user preference are not automatically saved on the server. Once the application is closed, the preferences are lost. Preferences here are referring to those toolbars which are not turned on by default when user logs in to BO65. Hence, how should I configure so that my customers can able be able to retains its preference (ie toolbars turned on) for every session? Or is this just how BO 6.5 behavas meaning it can't retain user's preference? By the way, my environment is currently hosting BO65 with citrix just in case if that would make any different. Any advice is much appreciated!!

  • PCD Business Objects Permissions for Authenticated users

    Hi All,
I am working on SRM7.0 Business package installed on Portal NW7.01.
I wanted to understand Which permissions should i provide to "Business Objects" PCD Folder for Authenticated users.
Should it be Administrator "None" and End User "ON"
Or Should it be Administrator "Read" and End User "ON"
    Regards,
    Ashish Shah

    Hi Sandeep,
I was wondering what is the need of assigning permissions to "Everyone" Group and "Authenticated Users"
    2. Group: Everyone(built in group)
    Administrator:Read
    Enduser:checked
    3. Group:: Authenticated Users(built in group)
    Administrator:Read
    Enduser:checked.
If i am not using Anonymous users , should i only assign this permission?
    Group:: Authenticated Users(built in group)
    Administrator:Read
    Enduser:checked.

  • SEM CPM Management Cockpit in Business Object

    Hi,
Can the Cockpit used in SEM-CPM module can be created using Business Objects?.
if so, is there any documents or links which can give an idea?. I got an initial response from BO General forum that it cannot be done, but i would appreciate if this gets answered from this forum as well.
    Please let me know.

    Hello Ashok,
In my opinion, this tool cannot be used in Business Objects.
Our [end user documentation|http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000713358&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000202&] does not have any comment. I recommend to post this query to the [BusinessObjects Enterprise Administration|BI Platform; forum.

  • Does OracleAS 10g support business objects

How can I integrate Business Objects(BO) with OracleAS 10g Portal is there some built in portlet or plug in for this... and where can I find documentation for this...
Do you actually need to have a business objects license for each user to be able to run something through the Portal that was created in BO?

Not yet but look for new supported platforms docs when SP3 is released (Mayish). I still think windows 7 will work fine IMO but if you are looking for official testing/support then SP3 should have it.

I am looking at an issue with users not getting specific group policies.
After searching a number of client computers I found that the following error

I can find the folder in the Sysvol folder on all of the domain controllers.
The issue with end users seems to be that the proxy settings for internet explorer is not being applied.

In administering this policy I am a little confused.
We have a policy that distributes proxy settings in the internet explorer maintenance settings section - however when opening this policy up in GPO editor the internet explorer maintenance section is not present.
I plan to apply the settings via User/preferences/control panel settings/ internet settings (or registry settings from article) however I am unable to edit the settings for internet explorer maintenance and these will persist. Ideas????

  • Business Objects Dashboard External HTML/JAVA Script Link - User Authentication Depolyment Q

<p>Hello,</p><p>I have a rather unstructured problem here and am relatively new to Business Objects Enterprise. </p><p>We have users who are authenticated through Business Objects. The login sets their access levels and permissions. In addition to the BO reports, we would also like to link through BO Dashboard a JAVA Script webpage.</p><p>The JAVA Script and Business Object software sits on the same webserver.</p><p><strong>The problem is that through BO Dashboard and also an external URL link we can only pass a static link (i.e. /some directory/some doc.html) and not a dynamic userid with the URL, which changes based on the user (i.e. /some directory/some doc.jsp?UID=user1).</strong></p><p>The solution might be to insert a Business Object API call that can determine the user who is currently logged in? Or, if there is some way around the static html link through Business Objects Dashboard?</p><p>Any ideas or thoughts would be deeply appreciated.</p><p>Thanks,</p><p>Joe</p>

Are you setting Business Objects up as an external application?
If so, what parameters are you using to set it up?
Based on the fact that you're seeing the basic auth dialog, you probably need to specify
that it's using basic auth -- not GET.

  • Business Objects Enterprise - domain user

As mentioned in blog at /people/ingo.hilgefort/blog/2009/07/03/businessobjects-enterprise-and-client-side-snc-part-1-of-2 the SNC interface can be used to provide SSO with Business Objects Enterprise.
The SSO works if the Windows services are started using a domain account, because the SNC session between BO server and SAP server is initiated using these domain credentials. We have found though, after 1 week the users credentials expire (due to ticket lifetime configuration in Active Directory) so BO server needs to be restarted every week. To solve this we are aware that SAP RFC library requires an SNC_MYNAME parameter, and we have put domain credentials on BO server in a key table file. I am wondering if you know how we can configure the SNC_MYNAME parameter in the RFC connection string used by BO software ?

    Ingo,
I am referring to client side SNC, as described in part 1 of your blog. As you know, a domain account is needed and the Windows services need to be changed to start as this domain account, instead of as system. When this change is made, and the WIndows services are started, they will request a Kerberos TGT from the domain, which has a lifetime associated with it - all domain users tickets have liftetime, determined by a domain policy. The liftetime of a TGT is normally about 8 hours.
When an RFC request is made by one of the Windows services, and the SNC library is invoked, it will get a service ticket from domain and store in same credentials cache that holds the TGT (inside LSA on Windows). This service ticket will expire at same time as the TGT used to request it.
If the SNC library gets a Kerberos service ticket, and the TGT has expired, but is still within the Renew Until period (normally 1 week after TGT was issued because of policy configuration) then a new TGT is issued, and the service ticket will be issued with the new TGT.
So, from above you can see that using SNC with Kerberos, means that the tickets only last for 1 week because of domain policy configuraiton of Kerberos ticket lifetime and because of renew period for tickets issued by AD. The only way that the Kerberos tickets could be used for longer, is if:
    a) The service is restarted, thereby causing it to get a new TGT and the renew until date/time for this new TGT will be 1 week after the TGT was issued.
    b) The TGT could be issued when an RFC call is made, and this TGT cached in a separate memory cache, instead of in MS LSA cache normally used by Windows.
Our product supports opiton b) but to make it work we need to understand how the BO software constructs the RFC connection string, and we need to add SNC_MYNAME parameter to this string. I can explain how this works in more detail if you like, but all I need is to know where the RFC parameters are stored. For example, is there an saprfc.ini file which we can edit and add the SNC_MYNAME parameter to this file ?

  • Display the login User ID on Header in Business Objects XI R3.1 Infoview

In XI R2 Infoview- the login user ID  is displayed on header. However  In XI R3.1 infoview- displayed Business Objects Logo on the same place of the Header. We noticed that In BO XI3.1 infoview the login user ID  is displayed on header. However the Business Objects logo is displayed on top of the user ID so the user ID  is hidden. while Setting the Infoview Application properties in CMC (CMC>Applications>Infoview Application Properties> check Do not display logo) then it will hide the logo and then next login displays the login user ID. Could someone please confirm is it the solution with this configuration or else please help us how to display the user ID on Infoview Header.

    Hey,
What you did is exactly correct.
Now you did on XI-R2 and 3.1 right??, whenever you got upgrade to next release of BO version again you have to do the same changing of properties. Which should not be dynamic based on your previous changes on earlier versions.
    Thank You!!

Hi, We are runnign a rather old version of BO 5.1...
Does anyone know what user rights are needed to run the application, it seems unless you put the user in the Power users or Administrators group on Windows XP you cannot get the app to run.
Surley you do not need to have a user with such elevated rights just to run an app?
If anyone could answer i'd be most grateful

Which Business Objects are you referring to.
MS .NET has a thing called Business Objects but they only work in .NET.

  • Programmatically changing user preferences when creating an InfoView user in code

    Post Author: rickp101
    CA Forum: .NET
I am very new to BO (using Business Objects 11.5) so bear with me if I am not clear or seem to have no idea what I'm talking about.
As a .NET Developer I have been asked to work on a project that involves creating new BO users and logging them in from an ASP.NET application (in order to mimic a single sign in system from another piece of software). I have found most of the information I require for this in the .NET SDK. However there is one function the client would like that I have not been able to find a solution for, and that is to change the users document viewing preferences.
Within InfoView, if you go into user preferences, under the General tab there is the following option:
For each document, show me ...
descriptionownerdateinstance countactions and description (if selected) initially not hidden
I think by default all of the boxes are checked however the client only wants the description showing for each user when they are set up. Is this something that can be modified within the code when the user is created or is each user going to have to change this themselves manually once logged in?
Any help will be much appreciated.

The InfoView settings aren't documented, unfortunately, but with sufficient trial-and-error, you'd be able to determine the correct values.
The settings are stored in the SI_DATA property 'desktopsettings' for a User object - you can have a look by logging onto 'Query Builder', accessible from the admin launchpad, and entering a query of the form: "Select SI_ID, SI_NAME, SI_DATA From CI_SYSTEMOBJECTS Where SI_KIND='User' And SI_NAME='<username here>'".
You'd see that, if you've specified the properties manually in InfoView (the property is not there by default) that it consists of '&'-separated key=value entries.
You'd retrieve the value via Enterprise .NET SDK call User.GetProfileString("desktopsettings"), and set new values via User.SetProfileString("desktopsettings", <new string value here>).
    The specific values you're interested in are booleans dv0=1, dv1=1, dv2=1, dv3=1, and dv4=1.

  • Store user preferences accessible from view layer and ADF BC

    Hi
    I'm working with JDeveloper 11.1.2.1
We have an application with an application-level shared application module which contains VOs with bind variables to generate language dependent LOVs. From these VOs have to access the language.
We want to store user language and other user preferences in the future and these can be accessed by the view layer and ADF BC.
In addition, we want that application will be passivation safe and works properly in a cluster environment.
At first we opted to save the language in the HTTP session, but we access it from ADF BC ... and we would not want to break the MVC pattern. This article
Andrejus Baranovskis's Blog: Bad Practice for Session Scope Access in ADF BC
says that the MVC pattern only breaks when our application module can not be executed without the UI. We differentiate when run individually and when run as a logged in user to avoid this rupture. ¿Is this acceptable solution?
Otherwise, what is the best option to preserve the MVC pattern and also the passivation does not affect the proper execution of the application and not cause problems in the cluster (HTTP sessions are replicated, but the rest?)
I have seen that there are 2 more possible methods :
    - Transient View Object
    - User data map
The user data map discussed in this article seems an option,
Andrejus Baranovskis's Blog: Solution for Sharing Global User Data in ADF BC
but perhaps complicates the development and I don't know if shared application module would work properly. For example, we need the language of the user in the application-level shared application module VOs, but the user data map is available only in the session of the root application module no? If we have a method that gets the language within the shared application module, ¿when the method getSession.getUserData() execute, it will access the user data in the root application module or return null?
If you could tell us if we are correct using the HTTP session or else it is better that we use the user data map, it would be a great help.
    Thanks

    Hi,
this sounds like something that belongs in your Application Module. I would create a client method which would do your LDAP checks before calling your view object to create a new row. Have the client method return the result based on the success of your LDAP search.
Call this AM client method from the backing bean of the JSP and return a page flow based on the outcome of your client method.
The actual transaction with the database happens in your doDML method of the Entity Object (override the doDML method). But I would still implement this business logic in the AM.

  • Procedure to get the count of matching user preferences

    Hi all,
I need to sort users by matching preferences, and because of the high count of rows I need to do that in the data store, not in the business logic layer.
Imagine I have a table like
    USER PREFERENCES
    USER     PREFERENCE
    1     A
    1     B
    1     D
    2     A
    2     C
    3     B
    3     C
    3     D
    4     C
    4     E
I need to develop a stored procedure that returns a selection of rows given the user I want to use as comparison
    getMatchingUsers(1)
    USER     MATCH
    3     2
    2     1
    4     0
that is the number of matching preferences for the users excluding the one that we are referring to. any idea on how to develop this? is this a known sql design pattern?
    thanks in advance,
    Alessandro

If you want to match different user profiles/preferences with each other, I say you're looking for a simple comparison using the same table twice:
    WITH user_preferences AS (SELECT 1 user_id, 'A' preference
                                FROM dual
                               UNION
                              SELECT 1, 'B'
                                FROM dual
                               UNION
                              SELECT 1, 'D'
                                FROM dual
                               UNION
                              SELECT 2, 'A'
                                FROM dual
                               UNION
                              SELECT 2, 'A'
                                FROM dual
                               UNION
                              SELECT 2, 'C'
                                FROM dual
                               UNION
                              SELECT 3, 'B'
                                FROM dual
                               UNION
                              SELECT 3, 'C'
                                FROM dual
                               UNION
                              SELECT 3, 'D'
                                FROM dual
                               UNION
                              SELECT 4, 'C'
                                FROM dual
                               UNION
                              SELECT 4, 'E'
                                FROM dual
    SELECT up1.user_id
         , up2.user_id
         , COUNT(*) matches
      FROM user_preferences up1
         , user_preferences up2
    WHERE up1.user_id != up2.user_id
       AND up1.preference = up2.preference
    GROUP BY up1.user_id
            , up2.user_id
       USER_ID    USER_ID    MATCHES
             3          1          2
             1          3          2
             4          2          1
             2          3          1
             3          4          1
             1          2          1
             2          1          1
             2          4          1
             3          2          1
4          3          1From there it should be easy for you to search for a specific user_id and put that into a procedure, package, whatever. A note of advice: Don't use keywords, such as user for any column, table or object name.
