Business Objects and Data Services on VMWare

My company has a requirement to deploy Business Objects 4.0 as well as Data Services.
We are going to be deploying them on Windows Server 2008 R2, hosted on a VMWare cluster. I have reviewed the PAM, but my question is:
Will these run using SQL Server 2008 R2 as a database? I see "SQL Server 2008" and I am just curious whether R2 is also supported?

Hi,
SQL Server 2008 R2 is listed in the PAM for DS as Repo DB. For BI4 it is also working and supported. I installed it already on it.

SAPBI data accessing from Business objects and other OLAP tools

We already have heavy usage of Business Object, Essbase and are planning to implement SAPBI 7.0
    a) We are planning to connect our existing Business
        Objects infrastructure onto the new SAPBI platform, Did
        You experience any issues such as performance,
        config issues, delays, web issues.. is there any
        document or link with steps involved in integrating
        Business objects and SAPBI
     b) Can Bex analyzer gives simliar functionalities that
        are in Essabse front- end (EXCEL), I know that the
        backend data managament is quite different, but my
        question is around user interface, do you have any
        comparisons between these two tools.
     c) Is it possible to get data from SAPBI using external
        reporting tools (OLAP) such as Oracle Discoverer ...

if the export to XML file is successful, the file will not be deleted if you are creating it from Metadata Exchange.
The file gets deleted in case you are using the create universe option and by default the file is created in %LINK_DIR%\log\MetadataExchange, you will also see ME_errorlog.txt and ME_outputlog.txt if there are any errors, do you see and erros in these files if you are creating the Universe directly from DS Designer ?
to use Metadata Exchange do the following
Open Data Services Desginer
Click on tools Menu -> Metadata Exchange
In the Metadata Exchange window
Select Export Data Services metadata to a file
Select DI CWM as metadata format
enter location for xml file (C:\temp)
Select the datastore you want to create Universe for
Click OK
Check for file named repo_export.xml in the C:\temp folder or the folder that you specified
Open Universe Builder and Select
Data Integrator bridge
and use the xml file as input to create universe

Enhancing web service tool to have further business objects and roots

Hi Gurus,
is it possible to enhance the web service tool in CRM 6.0, to have further business objects and root objects during the creation of a web service.
Currently, there are specific entries, but I want to have additional data in here to create a customer specific word template.
I have found out some tables, but I really do not know how to enhance them and if this is the correct way of adding additional business objects in the web service tool.
Mentioned tables are CRMV_WS_METHODS and CRMV_WS_OBJ_REL.
Has someone of you already did this? Helpful answers will be awarded.

But what about other components, such as BuAg (Business Agreement) or ISUMD (IS-U Master Data and further data from the ERP system). These components are in the GenIL, e.g.
BUAG with implementation class CL_CRM_BUAG_IL1 or
ISUMD with implementation class CL_CRM_ISU_IL_MD
Is it necessary to use the Web Service Consumption Tool for creating BOL Objects, although the BUAG/ISUMD are already available in CRM?
If so, what must be exactly done with this Tool. Does anyone have experiences here and can provide me further information?

I have requirement to create custom business object and create Web Service for that and use in external system (SAP ECC / SAP CRM / Third Party).
1) Is it possible to create custom object web service and used in external system ?
2) When we create the Web service from custom business object what the necessary steps(action : Create , Read , Update) require?

If you need to have Business Objects and SAP work together in conjunction you need to have the Business Objects Integration Kit for SAP. Integration Kit provides the database drivers and other features for reporting off SAP.

How to map business process and enterprise service?

Recently, I read some documents about ESA. I'm confusing about the relationship between business process and enterprise service. In other word, how to map the business process to enterprise service after the business process is analyzed? Is there any methodology/rule to define business process and wrap them into service in ESA?

I like to add some of my thoughts about that discussion. From my point of view ESA is much more than just another BPM or Enterprise BPM. ESA is adresses six key areas and I think all of them are really needed:
- People Productivity as the word itself describes...it's about portals and productivity.
- Embedded Analytics has to integrate transactional and analytical content.
- Service Composition is used for model-driven service composition and services orchestration.
- Service Enablement is about a Enterprise Services Repository filled with business meaningful Enterprise Services and service patterns for enabled objects. Excactly this is where SAP has years of experiences.
- Business Process Platform is about service enablement of all application platform objects and engines. This is the place where "BPM" for core business processes resits.
- Life-Cycle Management has to cover the deployment, configuration, operation and change management for ESA based processes.
Therefore the term "BPM" is located in serveral layers of an ESA approach. On the level of Business Process Platform BPM is providing the choreography for core business preocesses.
At Service Enablement BPM needs to compose out of granular services (I would say "atomic" services)
buiness meaningful services (here we have "molecular" services).
The third level where BPM could be used is Service Composition because exactly this is the place
where serveral Enterprise Services could be combined to a process representation.
To come back to the discussion:
1. The question should be how to indentify business meaningful services which could represent single process steps. ATP check, Credit card check, ... could be examples. In theory this service could be out-tasked, defined more flexible etc. This means that processes needs to be evaluated for Enterprise Service candidates. Afterwards you can check against SAP's Enterprise Services Repository for already existing Enterprise Services. The evalution for enterprise services candidates will be supported by the metodology mentioned by Kaj and David.
2. I think domains in this context should be motivated by business and/or functional areas. Depending on the granularity. For example Order Fulfilment Services, Master Data Services, Search Services... These kind of serices can be combined again to services such as "Search of Master Data" (Search Service + Read Master Data Service) etc. or can be used to generate UI to be used in a ESA application.

Script to stop and start Business Object and its components

I have installed Business Objects and few of its componenents.
Please assist where I can find a proper script to do a clean stop and start of its services.
My server is Windows 2008 SP2.
Target services to have a scripts are;
1. MySQL server 5.1.
2. Apache Tomcat 5.5.20.
3. BW Publisher Service 12.
4. Server Intelegence Agent.

All of those components are available as Windows services. You can use the relevant
net stop
commands to stop them.

Clone schema with current db objects and data.

Hi Cloud expert,
I need feature to clone existing schema and create new schema with schema as a service. I created profile that export schema with database objects and data. I created template that use the profile created. While provisioning the template I found all the database objects with template. Now I need a solution to clone the current schema with all the objects at current time. The way I tried contains all the objects that were exists while exporting the schema. I need the solution to clone schema so that it will contains all the objects and data right now.
While reading document I found snapclone but that is not the exactly the solution I need. I simply need to clone schema with latest db object and data with Self Service portal.

One option is to run BACKUP/RESTORE, once you have restored you run:
SELECT 'ALTER TABLE ' + quotename(s.name) + '.' + quotename(o.name) +

JOIN   sys.objects o ON o.schema_id = s.schema_id
WHERE o.type = 'U'
AND EXISTS (SELECT *
   FROM   sys.triggers tr
   WHERE tr.parent_id = o.object_id)
Copy result and paste into a query window do to run. Next:
SELECT 'DELETE ' + quotename(s.name) + '.' + quotename(o.name)
FROM   sys.schemas s
JOIN   sys.objects o ON o.schema_id = s.schema_id
WHERE o.type = 'U'
Run this result until you don't get any more errors.
Run the first query again, but change DISABLE to ENABLE.
This is more long-winding than scripting, particularly if you have lots of data. But you know that you will not make any changes whatsoever to the schema.
The scripting in SSMS generally does it right, I believe, but some items are not scripted by default. If you run BACKUP/RESTORE, you know that you get a faithful copy.
Of course, the best way is to keep your code under version control and take the version control system as your ultimate truth.

Business ByDesign UI: find Business Objects and UI definitions involved

Hello,
I am new to SAP Business ByDesign sdk development. The most difficult part is to identify the right Standard SAP Business Objects and use them the right way.
As I understood from another sdk developer, he has seen on an SAP sdk training that there exists functionality to see/determine in the ByDesign UI the Business Objects and UI definitions involved in a specific UI.
In a test tennant for a customer this functionality is unavailable.
- is this functionality released for customer use?
- how can I activate this functionality myself?
- what are the prerequisites to be able to use this functionality?

Here is a snippet for setting additional customizing or data for a business graphics view-element. Call this from method WDDOMODIFYVIEW.

Business Objects and Cognos 8 Controller integration

I have a requirement where we need to report Cognos Controller data in Business Objects more specifically our client would like
to explore Cognos Controller data using Business Objects Explorer. I don't have any idea how data is stored in Cognos etc.,

Business Objects and Demand Planning Book

Has anyone combined the functionality of Business Objects and Demand Planning into a single view? The requirement is to provide enhanced analytics (near real-time) within DP. We are on version 5.0. Ideally, it will a single view (table and graph -similar to standard layout) where both DP and BO are called with the same selection. I have a method to access the data near real time. What are the options to acheive this? Any ideas will be helpful.

Thanks Dave. I created a virtual cube in APO to connect BO. I can retrieve the data fine. I was wondering if there is a way to integrate BO and the planning book so that I will have one view to see both applications. For example, I called /zsapapo/sdp94 and get the planning book and BO analytics. Essentially, I want the BO to replace the standard graphics in the planning book. So, I would have a table at the top and BO dashboard at the bottom of the planning view. Any ideas how to achieve this?
The other question is around using a function module or BAPI to connect a virtual cube to LC to retrieve real time information. Are you aware of any drawbacks to using a function module or BAPI to retrieve data instead of the DataSource?

Exposing Business Object as Web Service

Hi,
I've designed a Business Object and would like to expose its findAll Operation as a web service. The wizard tells that the operation has Improper operation message cardinality". Hi,
you need to create wrapper method of findAll,
The reason you are not able to expose it as service because findAll resturning array of values instead of one response (or candinality of return is 0..n). So create one wrapper complex type add your BO as datatype of that complex type with multiple cardinality,
In new method add this complex type as response (with cardinality 0..1) and within code call standard findAll and mapp return value to complext type.
It will work.
