I have a Presentation to make
What are the Benefits of BOBJ over ORacle OBIEE.
Can some one provide some points or insights

we have dashbaords already built in obiee..we have to have strong case to say BO is better than oracle obiee in order to convince Management to say BO is better solution for BI
Source is SAP for oracle too.
We are trying to create BW cube and them create dashboards on top of BW
Right now oracle is
we get the data in oracle db from sap thru ODI and then build Dashboards on top if it.

I have a stored proc created in Oracle 10 - see bottom for code
I run a deski report on iit - using it as a datasource. This works fine in Desktop Intelligence until I schedule the report from infoview - then I get the following error...
"Object failed to run due to an error while processing on the Job Server"
My other deski reports based on Universes are ok.

Cause of this issue :
Once the Job Server recieves the scheduled job and spawns a new child process, the child process is unable to complete the job. The child process constantly is waiting to load the job. Looking further into the log and specifically the startup script, the -port option was incorrectly used (-restart-port) and didn't allow the child process to bind to the correct port using the correct DNS name.
In Order to resolve this issue follow the steps given below..
1.Open CCM
2. Stop Server
3. Right Click Server and go to Properties
4. insert -port option in to command line, example below
ex. "
win2k3\C$\ProgramFiles\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\win32_x86\JobServerFullClient.exe" -service -name win2k3.Desktop_IntelligenceJobServer -ns win2k3 -objectType CrystalEnterprise.FullClient -lib pp_procFC -jsTypeDescription "Desktop Intelligence Job Server" -maxDesktops 0 -restart -port win2k3.it.bo.example
5. Save setting and restart server.

In a database that I inherited recently I noticed the above connections coming from a Business Objects server. What was wierd was that the connections were logged in as SYS. I'm pretty sure that no one in the Business objects team knows the SYS database password. I'm not sure how this could be possible...I also noticed from the above output that the schemname was null. Any ideas?

Make sure no user has been granted SYSDBA privilege; check output of:
select * from v$pwfile_users where sysdba='TRUE';If this query returns a username different from SYS then this user can connect with SYSDBA privilege and his/her SYSDBA sessions will have USERNAME set to SYS.

Converting Business Objects (BO) reports to OBIEE

I am attempting to convert BO reports... I have a Request which determines a subset of all Customer Numbers based on certain criteria. I would then like to have a LEFT JOIN from all customers (with some filters applied) to this subset and have a column in the result Request that has a 'yes' for all accounts that are part of the subset, and 'no' for all the rest. This was achieved with user variables in BO, but I can't seem to figure out how to do this in OBIEE.
I tried the "Combining with Similar Request" and maybe I don't fully understand it, but it seems overly restrictive; I can't add a column that is in one of the Requests, but not in the other.
I hope this makes sense. I would appreciate any help.

Let's say Cust 1 has acct. types A, B, and C. Each type is recognized by an ACCT_TYPE_CODE. Cust 2 has Acct. types A, C, D, E, cust 3 has acct. types A, B, and F, and cust 4 has acct. types C, D.
I am trying to run a report of all custs with acct. type A and if the customer also has acct. type B, to display this in a column of the report with a 'Yes' and no otherwise.
The results should look like:
Customer B?
Cust 1 'Yes'
Cust 2 'No'
Cust 3 'Yes'
To make this work, I need two filters: one to filter all acct. types so only customers with acct. type A show up, and another (actually a formula) to look at all the other acct. types the customer may have and indicate a 'yes' or 'no' if that customer has acct. type B.
So far, I either get too little info (filter restricts too much) or too much info (customers with other than acct. type A show up on the report).

Does OracleAS 10g support business objects

How can I integrate Business Objects(BO) with OracleAS 10g Portal is there some built in portlet or plug in for this... and where can I find documentation for this...
Do you actually need to have a business objects license for each user to be able to run something through the Portal that was created in BO?

Not yet but look for new supported platforms docs when SP3 is released (Mayish). I still think windows 7 will work fine IMO but if you are looking for official testing/support then SP3 should have it.

Business Objects Authorization

Hi Gurus,
We are planning to implement Business Objects XI in 2 of our projects. In one of our projects data is stored in SAP BW cubes and in the other project we have data stored directly in SQL.
I have tried to investigate in detail for authorization concept in both enviroments but I could not find much. I heard it is possible to use existing authorization concept developed in BW but I do not know if this is correct.
Now my questions are the following:
1 - Is it possible to use existing BW authorization concept in Business Objects reporting?
2- In general how authorization issue is handled in Business Objects regarding SQL, Oracle, etc?
3- I would appreciate if you can recommend / send some documents

Installation Business Objects Mobile

Hi guys.. i want to install Business Objects mobile but i have question but i want to know if i can install Business Objects Mobiel over the same server of Business Objects XI, i believe that the Mobile server should not need a lot of resources...theres any technical restriction or its mandatory to have a dedicated server for this...

Hi guys yes i found the supported platforms and it could be installed on the same server but..... when i ve installed on the same server of the XI (Win 2008 Server) i found that theres some incompatibility of Mobile and Win 2008 and it didn´t run for me; finally i installed on a 2003 server on a separate server and i it works fine

Monitoring changes in Oracle Database with Business Objects

Hi: I need to know if there is a Business Objects tool that allows me to be constantly checking one Oracle database to see if there are changes. The customer is not permitted to access the database, only has enabled a stored procedure that returns a string value if there are changes or not. That string (XML) is performed by DataServices later with BO to generate something. I would like to know if there is any product of BO (Data Integrator, etc ...) that allows me to take an active process of consultation on the Stored Procedure and that the consultation is launched every 10-15 seconds.

Yes I am using Generic ODBC connection and it goes fine till the authentication even it is showing me schema tables, but when I try to fetch any table columns or try to view table values it goes stuck or give me error.
Can you please guide me in detail how I can turn off advance features and what values should I put in Array Size, etc.

Business Objects XI 3.1 Connection to Oracle 10

I am new to the world of Business Objects and In Universe Designer, when I try to create an Oracle OCI connection, I get the following error:
CS:DBDriver failed to load : C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\dataAccess\ConnectionServer\dbd_oci.dll (The specified module could not be found).
The path for windows environment variable is :
C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\HP OpenView\bin;C:\Program Files\HP OpenView\bin\OpC;C:\Program Files\HP OpenView\bin\;C:\Program Files\HP OpenView\lib\
Also, when I try to use cscheck on server to check connection, nothing happens - is there any setting I have to make to get this working. I have used SQLPLUS to connect to the database successfully.

Hi Michelle,
Please restart the connection server and try again. In case Oracle client was installed after installing BOE, restart of Connection server might be required. You can also verify if all the Orcale libraries are indeed inside the Oracle/bin. When you install Oracle instant clinet there will be no bin. the binaries will be present C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\. Please try these two option.

Upgrade from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g - Impact on Business Objects XI 3.0

We are currently using Oracle 9i with Business Object XI 3.0 and we going to upgrade the database from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g. We have Universe Created in Oracle 9i and we have reports created in the same universe. Will there be any impact to these reports when upgraded to Oracle 10g? We are using Oracle Client to Connect to the Database.

Hello, we are brainstorming a 24x7 criystal reporting environment with no interruption for any maintenance operations. Does any one has knowledge of any implementation of BO with 3 node Oracle 10g RAC on Linux?

There are RAC customers around the world who currently use Business Objects against a RAC 10g database. Since BO is a reporting tool, most of the workload will be read. If you are using parallel query with 400 users, you may want to tune so that the parallel slaves stay within an instance. This should work fine across a RAC cluster.
Yes the interconnect traffic may be higher especially if you use inter - instance parallelism. Your post suggests that all your reports will go after the same data block....if that is the case, the data block will be cached in memory and will only get shipped across the interconnect once. This will not have a high impact on the interconnect.

Business Objects and Oracle 10

Currently using a deployment of Business Objects 5.1.6 with an Oracle 8 data source. We are considering using a data source that is Oracle 10 , does anyone know if our version of business objects is compatible with Oracle 10 , or would our problems only lie in the middleware and drivers that may need updating ? Any help would be much appreciated.

Business Objects Reports 4.1.6 and Oracle 10g

One of our clients has an oracle forms 6i application and Business Objects Reports 4.1.6 called from forms with host command. We are going to upgrade the forms application to 10g but would it be possible to integrate this old version of BO in Oracle 10g application (and Oracle 10g DB)
Does it exist any official spreadsheet which explains the compatibility of BO and Oracle DB?

Oracle and business object!

hi!
we have oracle 10g on rhel4.
we do have business object XI
even if i have restricted the permissions for the users, why do i see all the schemas and there objects like CTXSYSM, DBSNMP, SYS when i connect throught the universe of BUSINESS OBJECT XI.
may be it is because by default all users have the privileges which the pseudo role PUBLIC has and when we install oracle, there are so many privileges like insert, update,delete, select on many objects in the schemas which are given to public by default.
can i seperate a user from the public privileges?
kind of ... revoking public (role) from the user???

since public pseudo role has a lot of privileges (select, insert, execute, delete) on many of the objects in CTXSYS, SYS, DBSNMP schemas. Also a user can run a select on ALL_ and USER_ tables and views from the dictionary.
can i restrict a user to view the ALL_ and the USER_ views from the dictionary and should see only the objects which i give explicit priviliges.
also can i revoke the privileges which are defaultly given to PUBLIC from a user???
(all users have the privileges which are there with PUBLIC, and defaultly PUBLIC has a lot of privileges at database creation time)
please help me to resolve the security threat!
