Business Objects Designer - SSM connection failure

Hello everyone,
We are experiencing problems while connecting with the SSM ODBO Provider to BOBJ Designer, we had already established the connection without any difficulty, but now a Pop-up appears displaying the following message "DBD: Could not find the SSMProvider.1" which is really strange because we had already connected to SSM, we are using the exact same connection that was previously saved, and we haven´t moved nothing on Netweaver´s configuration.

I am working on a report on Business Objects Design Studio,
Please help me out with the below two issues,
1. I want to display user name after Welcome message. The user name should be of the person who is logged into the SAP warehouse currently.
2. The corresponding user should only view those option, reports that he has access to.

What I am trying to do is,
I am trying to figure out a web item equivalent to role menu (of Web Application Designer) in Business Objects Design Studio.
Currently we are using BW 3.5 role menu to display BW 7.0 web template links. As SAP will no longer support role menu web item, I have to find a similar alternative, I am trying to look for a similar authorization (role menu) in Design Studio. All this is required so that if one user has access to only 3 reports then he should get only 3 reports displayed in the index page for all reports i.e main page for accessing all reports.
Also, i would greatly appreciate if you could please provide some more inputs on Design Studio Backend authorizations .

Business Objects Designer Buffer overrun problem

Hello,
When doing an export with Oracle Designer, the export works but Designer crashes/closes with the following error:
Microsoft Visual C++ - Runtime Library
Buffer overrun detected !
Program ... Objects Enterprise 11.5\win32_x86\designer.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program`s internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
Any suggestions to resolving this problem ?

As I replied to your earlier post - Business Objects Designer is not Oracle Designer. I just checked - there is no designer.exe in the Oracle Designer home directory or its subdirectories.

Business Object Designer Server Not Responding (SBO0001)

Hello! I receive this error after importing the universe in BO Designer and clicking on Universe Parameters.
Server Not Responding (SBO0001)
and when I click details it says:
DBD: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application
I receive it when I test the database connection. I am using Windows 7 and when I go into ODBC Administrative Tools and test it works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please install the BO Clients tools XI 3.1 Service Pack 3 Full version . Windows 7 is supported only for XI 3.1 SP3 and higher.
You have to upgrade your BOBJ server also (Client and server should be at the same version).
And please install the 32bit database drivers. BO is 32bit and altough it runs on 64bit OS ithout a problem, it can only use 32bit libraries/drivers.

Business Objects Universe generator

Hello,
We came across an interesting scenario and was hoping to hear from other with smiliar situation. In a SAP-BW and BO environment using Business Object Universe generator, it appears that BO requires direct data base connectivity to read data from BW. This to me sounded quite weird due to audit requirements and other compliance issues. Was wondering if there was anyother way for accessing BW data from BO.
The primary issue with ODBO from BO to BW was the limitations on the result rows that can be returned. The way forward seemed to be directly database access with a generic read only user.
Anyother ideas? Has this changed over time with BO-XI.
Any ideas appreciated?

Thanks you for submitting your post, I would like to take this opportunity to reply your post, I do not have experience in BO 5.x, 6.x but I can explain you to understand how it work in BOE XI/XI R2.
In XI/XI R2 we use an RFC connection (MDX driver, which makes BAPI, SAP API calls) to SAP BW to obtain the details of the BW Query or Info Cube for building the Universe using the XI/XIR2 Business Objects designer application. The request for the query or cube details is done VIA BAPI function calls. For the SAP BW Query we must have allow External Access to this query checked under the Query Property window.
Our Integrated Solution Kits do not access the SAP BWs data source.

I try to see Bex Queries in Business Objects Designer. Bex 7.0
Trouble : I try to click on the click box : Allow external queries in the Tab More (sorry I have them in German, so the translation is not perfect)
and the click box is greyed (disabled)

Thanks for your reply regarding the Business Query Designer Problem. I'm taking charge of the issue made by Vincent_BO.
I think you missunderstood our Problem.
It has nothing to do with the Language Configuration. When we create a new Query in Query Designer, it is possible to cross the Flag: "Allow External Access for this Query" under the right Panel: Options, register: advanced. ->please give me your email adress to send you the print screen of this configuration. Or is it possible to add a picture to this forum?
Now the problem is:
When we open an existing Query (from Bex) this Flag is disabled. (Please have a look on the following print screen again)
How can we enable this flag? we allready tried to copy a existing Query but the flag is still disabled. Is it possible to change this configuration directly on the database? which field in wich table would this be?

Dashboard Designer *.swf Business Object connection issue

We have *.swf file generated from SAP Dashboard Designer.
It uses database to retrieve information for report.
We have placed *.swf to our web application so that users have a possibility to review reports.
Let say our web application with *.swf file is placed on 192.168.0.1 server and Business Object is placed on 192.168.0.2 server.
The problem is that we are getting an error when we are trying to connect to report via *.swf file (http://192.168.0.1/report.swf) from client machine (from any computer in Internet) because the server with the Business Object (192.168.0.2) is not exposed to Internet. However it is exposed to 192.168.0.1.
So, the question is - is it possible to connect to BO (192.168.0.2) by oppening the *.swf that is placed on http://192.168.0.1/report.swf when BO server is exposed only to 192.168.0.1? Please, advise.

Can you provide a screenshot of the error message that you get when you try to access the dashboard?
Also let us know what data connections are defined in the dashboard.

Business Objects Open Connectivity Configuration in Universe Connection

i'm trying to create a Universe based on a flat file. I found out this Business Objects Open Connectivity (in Generic Sources) to use files as sources.
But I'm not sure how to use it? Can anyone help with this or share a doc how to use this functionality?

Follow the below steps.
1. Save the Excel in Local disk.
2. Go to Start>>Control Panel>>Administrative tools>Data Sources(ODBC)
3. Select System DSN>>Add>>Microsoft excel Driver(*.xls)
4. Give a new data source name and click on 'Select workbook' and point the saved excel sheet and click on OK
5. Create a new connection in Universe designer by using the Generic ODBC connection
6. Create a new universe and insert the table which we have defined in the Excel sheet.

Business Objects XI 3.1 Connection to Oracle 10

I am new to the world of Business Objects and In Universe Designer, when I try to create an Oracle OCI connection, I get the following error:
CS:DBDriver failed to load : C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\dataAccess\ConnectionServer\dbd_oci.dll (The specified module could not be found).
The path for windows environment variable is :
C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\HP OpenView\bin;C:\Program Files\HP OpenView\bin\OpC;C:\Program Files\HP OpenView\bin\;C:\Program Files\HP OpenView\lib\
Also, when I try to use cscheck on server to check connection, nothing happens - is there any setting I have to make to get this working. I have used SQLPLUS to connect to the database successfully.

Please restart the connection server and try again. In case Oracle client was installed after installing BOE, restart of Connection server might be required. You can also verify if all the Orcale libraries are indeed inside the Oracle/bin. When you install Oracle instant clinet there will be no bin. the binaries will be present C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\. Please try these two option.

Problem connecting SAP IS-U (ECC 6.0) with Business Objects Edge 3.1

Dear all,
I'm trying to connect to a SAP ECC 6.0 System (SAP IS-U) with Business Objects 3.1 (for example with Crystal Reports). I have installed the SAP RFC SDK on the ECC server and have imported these transport files:
Open SQL reporting objects
InfoSet reporting objects
Row Level Security Tool
Security functions
Cluster Definition Editor
But CR keeps returning this error "You do not have the necessary rights to design reports against the SAP System". I've read a few threads about that problem here. I couldn't find a specific "ABAP transport" - did I miss to import anything else?
Is there any way to check whether the transport files work as they are supposed to? Like the MDX parser connection test for SAP Business Warehouse.
Any other suggestions?

Hi,
I read about these authorization tasks in some other thread, but didn't know what to do.
But now I found the auth. object in the transaction SU21.
Since I cannot edit SAP_ALL I created another profile in transaction PFCG (just in case someone else is still messing with that problem) and added all activities of ZSEGREPORT ans S_RFC.
After that I added the profile to the users in question.
Now everything works like a charm.

How to Access SSM PAS model database in Business Objects

My core user would like to see few reports from SSM into Business objects.
How can I create a universe from SSM DB , connection type ?.

In order to create a Universe on top of Strategy Management Data (Scorecards or PAS models), you need to be on 7.5 SP2 minimum. Anyway, I strongly advise to always have the latest SP (currently SP5 HF1) installed.

I am trying to connect sap business objects to Microsoft Excel using Power Query add in but i am getting Proxy time out connection error when adding
Credentials, As per the SAP documents i am using SAP Restful Web service URL when connecting to Business objects
Details are as follows:

SAP BO Platform-:BO 4.0 SP 6 (OS-Windows server 2008 R2)
Excel Version-:Microsoft Excel 2013
ADD IN-:Power Query

please be aware that you need SAP BI 4.1 SP2 at least for using Power Query
So maybe this error results in a non suported Environment.

Report works in Designer client, but not after published to Business Objects server

Has this happened to anyone else? I have a couple of reports that work perfectly on my pc in the Designer client. I can export them to whatever format I need, and they work. When I save them to the Business Objects server, everything appears to be ok. The thumbnail on the properties tab shows the correct report with a page full of data. When I preview and when I schedule the report to run, I get incorrect data. In one case, I get an empty report. In another case, I get data, just wrong data and way too much of it. I've got hundreds of other reports that were developed and published the same way that are working correctly. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

There may be couple of reasons. What is your data source? Verify the database in the report and check it again. Or to do more crosschecking, Create a simple report using the same database and deploy in BOE.
