  • Business Objects vs. SAP Strategy Management

    Hi all,
I am new to this forum and would like to post a message regarding the recent news on SAP and Business Objects.
Business Objects has more than 6000 CPM customers and in then meantime we find many statements like http://www.gartner.com/DisplayDocument?id=530626 in the web
Since the announcement a couple of weeks have passed. My question is, if you have detailed analysis on how the Balanced Scorecard solution of both companies will differ respectively overlap. Are there any documents on that point available? And are there any consequences to be expected e.g. with respect to the price model?
    Thanks for your help,
    Alessandro

    Hi Alessandro,
I fully agree with Prakash's reply - at the moment Nenshad's comments represent the 'only version of the truth' regarding the BOBJ acquisition.
However, there is still a possibility to add some useful information on this as you are referring to a 'Balanced Scorecard' solution in general. As there are currently two sides to this equasion: SAP and BOBJ, for the SAP part we can be more specific:
SAP Strategy Management (SSM) based on the technology acquired with Pilot Systems Co. in February 2007 is the tool of choice for scorecarding in the <u>current</u> CPM portfolio of SAP (SAP's current CPM portfolio is based on the acquisitions of Outlooksoft, Pilot and the reseller agreement with Acorn). This reduces the complexity a little bit as you no longer have to contemplate which of SAP's own scorecarding solutions is the leading one <u>at the moment</u>. SEM-CPM Balanced Scorecard is retired - being put in maintenance mode - and all customers encouraged to move to Strategy Management, facilitated by a planned migration utility.
Shall you want to learn more about SAP Strategy Management, feel free to refer to my blog series (e.g. <a href="/people/karol.bliznak/blog/2007/09/12/one-blog-is-not-enough--how-to-manage-performance-management).

    Hi Pat,
You can get the guides and Installtion guides from this
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/
    You can download the from
    .subscribenet.com
you can enter the user name and password then you can download the Business Objects software that can be download.
"By trying to download - Query as a Webservice i saw there were with sequences 1-3. Which one should i donwload? "
Sequence 1-3 you will have to download all the 3 as it can be part 1 part 2 and part 3.
Tomcat .If you are installing for the first time it will automatically install tomcat and JDK if you are connected to the net while installing Business Objects.

  • RFC for getting a list of business objects.

    Hi!
I'm currently using the RFC "RPY_BOR_TREE_INIT" (I am setting the "ALLOBJTYPS" column in the "FILTER_OBJECT_TYPES" input structure to "X") to retrieve a list of all business objects along with the hierachy.
I get back a table having nearly 2000 rows. I now want to display these in a hierarchical fashion similar to how the BAPI explorer does it. However, I see that for a number of rows in the table returned via the RFC above, the BAPI explorer does not show those categories/objects.
I wanted to know how does the BAPI explorer decide whether a category/object needs to be displayed or not. In my application, I want to display the <i>exact</i> same hierarchy as the BAPI explorer, and currently my app is displaying a lot of extra stuff.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have no idea who else to ask. My SAP consultants dont have any idea, and so we raised a help request with SAP, but they've said that since RPY_BOR_TREE_INIT is meant only for internal use, they wont help us.
Is there any other RFC (meant for public use) which I can use to display the exact same tree as the BAPI explorer?
    Thanks,
    Mustansir

  • How can we use business object (e.g. crystal report ) in webdynpro abap

    Hi All,
We all know that business object has been part of sap products.
But even though in SAP, I really don't know much about business object.
and how can we use the great function of BO and integrate into our development to make
user have much better function and user experience.
Do we have some learning material of BO?
Could someone share some material here?
    Thanks and Regards
    Aaron.

One of the main ways that you can integrate some Business Objects content with WDA is via FlashIslands.  If you are on 7.01 or higher, you have the option to use FlashIslands UI element.  There are many tutorials on FlashIslands available on SDN. FlashIslands work well with Xcelsius content, since the output of Xcelsius is a Flex component.  It is pretty easy to set the Xcelsius interface to External Connection and then write a wrapper Flex Component around the generated output, so that it can be used in the FlashIslands interface.
For Crystal Reports integration you will need NetWeaver 7.02 (comming early next year).  We have integrated Crystal Reports as an output option in the Web Dynpro ABAP ALV and the Classic Dynpro ALV.  You don't need to do any development to enable this.  You can use two different SAP delivered Crystal Reports templates for the ALV output, or create and add your own templates.
Some of ther BOBJ integration is still in prototype and demo phase within SAP.  For instance we have a data interface to send data to Explorer onDemand from any ABAP application. We have a prototype FlashIsland for WebI to run in place within Web Dynpro ABAP.  Over future enhancement packages you will see increased integration opportunties with the BOBJ capabilites.

  • Business object to Discoverer

    Hi All,
Any documents available, for migrating reports from BO to Disc?
    Thanks

I too am not aware of any way to migrate Business Objects reports to Discoverer.
We are coming from a B.O. environment, though we are in the midst of an ERP implementation (non -EBS to EBS) so we are starting from scratch. Here are some of my thoughts:
-If your data sources are not changing (e.g. your data warehouse or your relational database), I would closely examine your existing universes. I would anticipate a correspondence between your B.O. universes and your business areas in Discoverer. I would encourage creating ER Diagrams of the existing universes and this would be the building blocks for your work in Discoverer. I too am unaware of any nice tools to ease your pain.
-I like John's suggestion: You could maybe look at doing custom folders, where you could copy in the SQL statement, and then rebuild the report in Discoverer from that custom folder
-Our B.O. universes were pointing at a relational database and so we heavily leveraged using multiple Business Objects data providers with manual links between them. There is nothing like this in Discoverer. Brace yourself if you relied on this. This has been somewhat painful for me.
-Discoverer appears to have more functions available in creating calculations.
-Discoverer appears to me to be more rigid in totaling.
-Discoverer has features to allow calculations that take into consideration context (like groups) that are similar to B.O., but feel less intuitive. I hope I change this feeling, but right now they feel awkward yet.
-A lot of our old B.O. reports had multiple tables on one tab. You cannot do this in Discoverer. Discard any thoughts of trying this.
-If your company has great aspirations for using the Discoverer scheduler, please lower its expectations. Emailing and output to files in multiple formats is not out of the box. Armstrong's book does provide some good alternatives if you still have great scheduling aspirations.
-Memorize the Armstrong's Oracle Press Discoverer book.
-Lastly, the user community does not seem/feel nearly as big, but people try to help one another.
In many respects, I am still learning a lot (I have only been seriously working with Discoverer for about 8 months). If I made a wrong assertion, I am sure someone will correct me.
Prepare yourself for a lot of work.
    Patrick

  • About Business object

    hi experts ,
what is the primary and secondary methods in Business objects?.
and what are the primary and secondary methods?
if helpful points ll be rewarded.
    thanks,
    vel

There are no primary and secondary methods in BOR objects. All methods are equal. However, you may have secondary methods in a step of a workflow, and you can read more about that <a href="http://help.sap.com/">here</a>.
The Wiki that was created by Mike Pokraka for <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/home/sapBusinessWorkflow+FAQ">SAP Business Workflow FAQ</a> (Frequently Asked Questions) is also a good place to start, although not necessarily for this particular question. There you can at least learn a little about the basics, preparing you to explore a little on your own before asking here.

  • What is Business Object!?

    Hi everybody,
I'm newby in all of this, i mean SAP, i do some things in PI, but now i need to work with Business Objects, and i really don't have idea. I was looking for information about it but i didn't find something that explain what is business objects in technical way, like development, what do i need to develop?
What is the first thing that i need to install?
where can i find it (application, executable) to download?
Is a Web Server or Application Server, necessary?
I tried to find all the technical aspects (like BO theory) and the architecture for BO, but nothing clear yet. I only found funtional foundations, like the propose of the BO and the characteristics, but not how does it work!!.
    Could anybody help me please?
    Thanks,
    Vicman

    Hi,
Learning BO would be a very smooth, I can assure you a pleasant run; if you are a BI consultant, I advise you to first install BO Edge which is free on SAP site at "Free Trials"
    http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/freetrials/index.epx
and start with the below link to get hold of the user guides and start familiarising with first the universe and then the Desktop Intelligence/Web Intelligence.
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/
I am very sure if you pick the universe first and jump on desktop Intelligence, you will be able to learn it fairly fast.
    All the Best.

  • Business objects and subtyping

    Hi,
I recently went through a very intriguing article on BOR at
    www.sapgenie.com/abap/bor.htm
The article has raised several questions in my mind.
    1) Has SAP brought all of the Business Processes to the Business Objects? I mean, can everything be done ( like creating/changing materials in MM, creating sales documents in SD etc) using BO alone? In other words, is the entire business functionality covered in the BOR?
    2) Do the Business Objects call the transactions or the Transactions call the Business Objects?
This doubt has aroused because the article mentions that when we change the password of a customer the CHANGEPASSWORD method of BO KNA1 is called. And, in contrast, I found that some BAPI's(not CHANGEPASSWORD) called by the BO methods actually use 'CALL TRANSACTION' statements.
    3) If the transactions actually do call the BO methods, will the subtyped method be called after delegation even when the transactions make a call to the BO?
I was not able to find satisfying answers anywhere, neither on Internet nor the SDN Forums. Please help me find some answers. Or atleast, if possible, please send me some links or forward this mail to any of your friends who might be able to help me.
    Thanks in advance.
    Anand.

    Hi Anand,
    1) No.  BOR is a wrapper and uses old techniques.  From a workflow perspective ABAP OO is better.  There is still a place currently for BOR as a BAPI reference tool, but I'm expecting that with the Business Process Platform we will have some alternative for BOR altogether at some point.  What I think you are really getting towards is the Business Process Platform ... in which case you might find the Business Process Expert forum interesting. But that's a much broader topic than workflow.
    2) Both is possible but in general the BOR calls the transaction.  There are a few "naughty" BAPIs that cop out and call transactions but they are mercifully few.
Tranactions do use BOR e.g. to call Generic Object Services features.   All of this will change with the Business Process Platform anyway when hopefully we have more BAPI-like method calls to use and are less restricted by monolithic transactions.
    3) Yes delegation would still apply in the scenario you describe - although I can't think of an example where we actually do that - as per the answer to 2., that's not usually how it works.
In the meantime, start learning ABAP OO for Workflow.
My Blog series is currently available - first 3 blogs are now available.
    Regards,
    Jocelyn
