Business Objects XI 3.1 Connection to Oracle 10

I am new to the world of Business Objects and In Universe Designer, when I try to create an Oracle OCI connection, I get the following error:
CS:DBDriver failed to load : C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\dataAccess\ConnectionServer\dbd_oci.dll (The specified module could not be found).
The path for windows environment variable is :
C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\HP OpenView\bin;C:\Program Files\HP OpenView\bin\OpC;C:\Program Files\HP OpenView\bin\;C:\Program Files\HP OpenView\lib\
Also, when I try to use cscheck on server to check connection, nothing happens - is there any setting I have to make to get this working.  I have used SQLPLUS to connect to the database successfully.
Any help or pointers appreciated

Hi Michelle,
Please restart the connection server and try again. In case Oracle client was installed after installing BOE, restart of Connection server might be required. You can also verify if all the Orcale libraries are indeed inside the Oracle/bin. When you install Oracle instant clinet there will be no bin. the binaries will be present C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\. Please try these two option.
Hope this helps
Thanks

  • Business Objects Enterprise XI 4.0 / Linux / Oracle / Tomcat Web Server

    Hello Experts,
I have never done a BOBJ install before and I have some questions:
First, here is our setup: Business Objects Enterprise XI 4.0 / Linux / Oracle / Tomcat Web Server
    1.     We are being asked how big u2013 disk space- to make the server. All I can find is 14 GB for an English only install, there is no documentation on how big the databases need to be. Does anyone have any experience and can tell me how big the databases are going to be initially? I need to tell the server team how much space to put on the server.
    2.     The documentation says to have two databases or schemas, one for Central Management Server and one for the Auditing Data Store. My question around this is whether there is a preferred way to do it, separate databases or separate schemas?
    3.     The documentation does not say anything about the file system layout, do we need to create the standard SAP file system layout (i.e. /sapmnt, etc.)
Many many thanks in advance, any advice would be a greate help .. please help

    Hi,
    here are some answers:
    1. Well for the Installation of the Software as itself (not the databases) i would recommend at least 30 GB. All the Reports are getting stored physically in the installation directory. This behavior is by default. Later you can move the FileStore (where the Reports, Universes, etc. are located in) to a NAS share f.e.
With Regards to the Databases i would recommend 1 GB for the CMS DB and 5 GB for the Audit DB. It depends on how you Audit your System. If you audit more actions, more information in the Audit DB will be stored.
    2. 2 Schemas on one DB is fine
    3. Usually you run a BOE installation on UNIX/LINUX under an installation user. BOE will be installed into his Home Directory.
    Regards
    -Seb.

    Hi all,
One of our clients has an oracle forms 6i application and Business Objects Reports 4.1.6 called from forms with host command. We are going to upgrade the forms application to 10g but would it be possible to integrate this old version of BO in Oracle 10g application (and Oracle 10g DB)
Does it exist any official spreadsheet which explains the compatibility of BO and Oracle DB?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Business Objects Dashboard and Webi Connectivity

    Hi All,

    Hi Vijay,
I am on BI 4.0 Sp6 and would like to create a BO Dashboard based on Webi Instance. What is the best approach to do the same.
If you are using LO connection, then its not mobile supported connections & struggled a lot to make it stabilize. but still its a good connection to view the data in dashboard design time.

Take look at the below links for the up's & down for BIWS Connection.

How to create Xcelsius Dashboard based of BI Web Service ( BIWS )
I want the BO Dashboard data to be visible on Ipad ( hence no data source connections)
If you are looking for a connection which is specific to mobile supported, then look into the below links.
You can get all aspect of information which is necessary to create a dashboard.
How to Configure and Access Dashboards from IPad
Dashboards currently support only data manager connections defined using Query Browser as Live Data connections and QaaWS and Flash variable connections support is planned in BI 4.1
In case of live office , how does the refresh mechanism work
Refresh can be done webi side by scheduling the report in repository or you can keep a refresh button in dashboard to refresh the data. I hope automatic refresh is not possible here.
Does add on tools like XWIS help in mitigating the issue
I have no idea regarding this,
    Hope this helps.

  • Business Objects XI 3.0 connecting to domains from different forest

    Hi All,
Does anyone know if BOE XI 3.0 support AD authenication with multiple AD domains which reside in different forrests?
I found other post which mention we are now supporting it in XI 3.0 SP1 but I couldn't find any document on it.
    Thanks,
    Bobby

3.1 or 3.0 SP1 both support multiple forests. There are rules, there must be a transitive full two way trust between the forests.
i.e. in order to map groups the CMS needs to query the remote forest so the remote forest(s) must trust the local one.
In order for remote users to login to the local forest they must trust the remote one(s)
The changes were made in the AD plugin (basically we query multiple global catalogs and lookup objects by DN as opposed to SID) So there is no configuration needed in BO.

  • Business Objects and Oracle 10

    Post Author: DQUINTON
    CA Forum: Deployment
Currently using a deployment of Business Objects 5.1.6 with an Oracle 8 data source. We are considering using a data source that is Oracle 10 , does anyone know if our version of business objects is compatible with Oracle 10 , or would our problems only lie in the middleware and drivers that may need updating ? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Kiran,
Jokes aside, Theres a few documents on how Oracle partner with Business Objects but there is no "Oracle Business Objects" BI product, at least up until end of last year before I left Oracle Consulting BI practice.
Yes SAP Business Objects connects and supports Oracle 10G database functionality, but that would be Oracle DB, not Oracle BI EE.
I seriously doubt they would launch ANOTHER BI tool with the same application name as a competitor?
I hope you can get the information you are seeking.

  • Connect Business Objects to SAS Data Set?

Has anyone ever been able to use a SAS data set as a data source for Business Objects?

I've connected to a SAS datastore in Business Objects Data Services, and it's straightforward.
What you need is to set SAS up as an ODBC server.
This can be done in 2 ways:
    - Using the SAS/SHARE product on any server that is accessible from BOBJ. This is quite pricey, so maybe you should only consider this if you have a SAS/SHARE license already, or your project can pay for it.
    - Using an ordinary running SAS session on the same server.
You also need to install an ODBC driver on your BOBJ server, in order to access your SAS ODBC server.
You can read about SAS ODBC on SAS Institutes website. Start here:

  • Defining Business Objects in ES-Builder

    Hi,
I tried to create a business object definition with the Enterprise Service Builder (CE 7.1 with local SLD; Selected ES-Builder Profile: "unrestricted").
I selected "create object" -> "Interface Objects" -> "Business Object". But the "Business Object"-Option is deactivated and I get the followoing warning:
Software component version does not support this object type
"Agent" and "Process-Component" are not selectable too.
I configured the Software Component in SLD and imported it to the ES-Builder. How do I have to configure my software component (version) to create a business object-definition?
    Regards

    Hello Rathish,
    thanks for your reply.
At the moment I am evaluating the usage of the ESR. There are 3 Steps I want to perform:
First I want to model my environment. That step I have done by modelling my process-components with service-interfaces, operations, and a business-object for each process-component.
Secondly I created specifications in ESR for my service-interfaces and operations and connected them to the corresponding model objects.
Thirdly I imported the specifications from ESR into my NWDS to implement them.
Since I can connect my service-interface-specification in ESR to the corresponding service-interface in my model, I question myself why can't I do the same thing with business-objects (specify them and connect them to the model object)? Doesn't it make any sense? You wrote that specifying business-objects is not available for external use. Is there a specific reason? Also, it would be nice to import a business object-specification from ESR into NWDS. Unlike "service-interface model"->"service-interface specification"->"service-interface implementation" are connected together from model to implementation, there is a gap between "business-object model" and "business object implementation".

  • Integrate Crystal Reports to Business Objects

We are trying to introduce Crystal Reports into our current BOE environment and are trying to keep the 'custom password synchronization code' authentication method we have in place for Business Objects with Crystal.  If at all possible.  We have a custom connection and am not sure what the default connection between the two.  It could be LDAP or anything but how do we configure Crystal to integrate with Business Objects using our custom connection method?

Log into CMC, browse to report object, open object, click on Process tab, click on database link, now edit to desired login info.

  • Business Objects connectivity to Oracle

    Hello all,

    105 144 SYS boapp boprod WIReportServer@boprod (TNS V1-V3) 3/16/2011 6:00:57 AM
    92 13453 SYS boapp boprod WIReportServer@boprod (TNS V1-V3) 3/15/2011 2:19:55 PM
In a database that I inherited recently I noticed the above connections coming from a Business Objects server. What was wierd was that the connections were logged in as SYS. I'm pretty sure that no one in the Business objects team knows the SYS database password. I'm not sure how this could be possible...I also noticed from the above output that the schemname was null. Any ideas?
    Oracle version: 10.2.0.4
    Host: HP-UX 11.11
    BusinessObjects R2 Service Pack 6
    Host: HP-UX 11.11
    Thanks for your time...

Make sure no user has been granted SYSDBA privilege; check output of:
select * from v$pwfile_users where sysdba='TRUE';If this query returns a username different from SYS then this user can connect with SYSDBA privilege and his/her SYSDBA sessions will have USERNAME set to SYS.

  • Monitoring changes in Oracle Database with Business Objects

Hi: I need to know if there is a Business Objects tool that allows me to be constantly checking one Oracle database to see if there are changes. The customer is not permitted to access the database, only has enabled a stored procedure that returns a string value if there are changes or not. That string (XML) is performed by DataServices later with BO to generate something. I would like to know if there is any product of BO (Data Integrator, etc ...) that allows me to take an active process of consultation on the Stored Procedure and that the consultation is launched every 10-15 seconds.
    Thanks in advance

Yes I am using Generic ODBC connection and it goes fine till the authentication even it is showing me schema tables, but when I try to fetch any table columns or try to view table values it goes stuck or give me error.
Can you please guide me in detail how I can turn off advance features and what values should I put in Array Size, etc.
