Business Objects XI 3.1 on windows 7

How Install Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.1, client tools on windows 7?

Windows 7 is supported to install desktop applications (not server components) in XI 3.1 SP3 both in 32 or 64 bit mode. You can only utilize this support of desktop applications if you perform a full install with BOE XI 3.1 SP3 software (client tools) instead of an upgrade package.
To install, you need to download (javascript:ms_getObject('https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap/bc/bsp/spn/download_basket/download.htm?objid=012002523100007087502010E&userid=S0006543242&action=DL_DIRECT');) the appropriate package (client tools only) and install them on the Windows 7 desktop(s).

Hope this helps...

  • Desktop Intelligence: Business Objects has stopped working in Windows Vista

    Hi,
We have installed the BO XI 3.1 SP3 client components in Windows Vista Machine. When I was working with Desktop Intelligence, the program keep terminates irregularly. A pop-up window would appear saying "Business Objects has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program." It asks me to close the program. The window always pops up even when I just terminate the BOE normally. It sometimes pops up when I was just trying to refresh the data or in the middle of working with the application.
    THanks.

    Hi expert
I have install the BO XI into my laptop with 32-bit OS and Windows Vista Enterprise SP 2 but still experience the same error message "Business Objects has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program".
Please help as my daily task require to use BO very often.
    Thank you very much

  • Transferring the Business Objects Server to a another Windows 2003 Domain

    Greeting Everyone
I am in the process of moving the BOX1 Server (Windows Member) from one Windows 2003 Domain to another and want to make the movement as smooth as possible.
I am in the process of making a checklist on what needs to be done before and after the movement of the BOX1 Server. With your expertise can you please advise me on the points to be considered on this movement.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Venkat

    Hi Tim
As usual thanks for your prompt response.
I am using BOX1 R1 which is working in an unique way (defy all rules) in my environment. The server is located in Domain ABC and the users are located in domain XYZ. That means user is in one domain and server in another domain. Now we going to place the server in the same domain where the users are.
The answers to your questions are
Is this just the server that is moving?  Yes. The server is moving from ABC to XYZ
Is the domain in the same forest as the original? No, They are independent Forests with 1 way trust relationship
Are all the users that login going to keep using the same domain? Yes.
What I am worried is that if I move my server between independent forests then all the SIDs (not sure) of the server will also change to my understanding. Worrying part is that will it hamper the the functionality of the server.
Please also note that FQDN and the IP address will also change.
Please advise and Thanks once again

  • Windows AD Authentication for Business Objects BI Platform

Currently we are running our installation of Business Objects BI Platform on a Windows 2008 r2 server with Tomcat. We understand that it is recommended that in order to authenticate with Windows AD you need to use Kerberos authentication, and this is true for SiteMinder authentication from this application as well. If this is wrong please let me know.
Because of the security restrictions on our environment we can not run the needed scripts on the AD server in order to use Kerberos. But also because of the security restriction we have to use SiteMinder against AD.
Is there any suggestion of what we can do to get this authentication to work? Thanks ahead of time!

Kerberos is a very secure protocol, compared to others.
Creating SPNs and enabling the delegation option is required for kerberos to work.
These steps are suggested by Microsoft for kerberos to work and are not controlled by SAP BO.
Kerberos also allows you to perform SSO to the DB to view reports on demand.
However if you wish to use Siteminder, you can pull Active directory users using the AD plug-in and then use Siteminder with Trusted Authentication to pass the username authenticated by Siteminder to BO and BO can use the user name passed to create a session.
Note: As the user is already authenticated by Siteminder, BO would not perform the authentication again.
Please go thorough the below SAP Note, that helps setting up Trusted Authentication SSO.
1422248    Setting up Trusted Authentication in XI 3.x for Infoview and Opendocument using QUERY_STRING
1603002 - Setting up Trusted Authentication in BI4 for BIlaunchPad and Opendocument using HTTP_HEADER

  • Running XI and 6.5 Services on same Business Objects Server

We are currently thinking about  migrating to Business Objects XI from 6.5 SP4.
We are running with a 3-tier architecture, with the Business Objects services running on a Windows Server.
Due to the number of users and reports in circulation we would like to do the migration in phases.
Is it possible to run both the XI and 6.5 services on the same Business Objects server at the same time?

That's actually a migration secanario so it should work fine. I had no trouble with 5.2 and 6.0 on the same system.

  • Install Business Objects XI R2 on Windows Server 2008

    Hi,
I want to install Business Objects on Windows Server 2008 using IIS7 however i cannot select the IIS ASP.Net option when I get to the "Choose Web Component Adapter Type" screen.

    Ok,
After not having much like with installing on IIS7.0 i opted to do an install with the TomCat Server.
This was also not successful, It seems that TomCat relies on a service called NTLMSSP
this has been removed in both Vista and Server 2008.. (I guess this is why ive been having so many issues!)...
After doing some reading on the above mentioned service it is quite possible that IIS 7 could also be using it.
Thanks for all your responses, but i guess this is a definate thing now (just in case some one else comes looking for this information)

Does anyone know if the following software's compatible or supported in the Windows 7 environment? Also if Internet Explorer 8 will or will not be an isssue?
Business Objects Live Office XI 3.1
Business Objects Live Office XI 3.1 FP 1.5
Business Objects Live Office XI 11.5

IE 8 is already supported in IE7 compatibility mode (SP2) and full support for windows 7 (client tools as server products are never certified on desktop OS's) should be forthcoming in SP3 due around May

  • Migration of SAP Business Objects BI Platform 4.1 from Windows(OS), SQL Server(DB) to AIX(OS) and Oracle(DB).

    Dear All,
I have SAP Business Objects BI Platform 4.1  running on window servers and sql server database. We want to migrate this to  AIX and oracle.
Can you please share what should be the best approach to carry on this migration?
    Regards,
    Asleh

    Hi Mohammed,
Regarding your Query below is the suggestion:
Step I: Preparing for moving BOBJ application from Windows to AIX
There are some tasks that you need to perform:
    To configure the existing deployment
Perform inventory and cleanup, to ensure that only the required content is moved.
Run the Repository Diagnostic Tool to detect any inconsistencies between the File Repository and the CMS repository. The upgrade management tool will not run successfully if there are inconsistencies between the File Repository and the CMS repository.
Identify any content that the upgrade management tool can't upgrade, along with the process required to upgrade that content. There is some content like Voyager Workspaces or Desktop Intelligence documents that require manual intervention before running the upgrade management tool.
Back up existing repositories, including the system database and the Input and Output File Repository Servers.
Back up custom web applications, HTML pages, and scripts in your existing deployment.
To configure the planned BI 4.x deployment
Setup and configure the Middleware and ODBC connections.
Ensure that your machines meet the deployment system's requirements, you can find information about the supported platforms in the Platform Availability Matrix (PAM) http://service.sap.com/support -> Help and Support -> SAP BusinessObjects Support -> Documentation -> Supported Platform s/PARs -> SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.x
    Step II:
You can use database backup & FRS backup (Offline) in new environment (AIX) to deploy BOBJ 4.x Version
Take the help of DBA to move CMS & AUDIT database backup from SQL Server (Windows) to Oracle (AIX)
Test the Universe, reports, Check the rights
    Step III:
If you are configured any SSO then make sure that same configuration is deployed in new environment (AIX).
Test the user SSO in new environment (AIX).
    Or
You can also use Promotion manager to move the contenet from Windows (Business Objects Application) to UNIX (Business Objects Application)
Only prerequisite is Business Objects Application version should be same.
You can copy content only 50 Object at a time in One Job
    FRS Offline backup is required.
Necessary files regarding custom web applications, HTML pages, and scripts in your existing deployment.

  • Business Objects Enterprise 11.5 FTP Transfer Problem

    Hello,
Hopefully someone out there will be familiar with the issue I'm having and be able to provide a solution.
We are running Business Objects Enterprise 11.5 on our Windows 2003 server.  I've created and scheduled a job on the server that creates an XLS file containing loan portfolio data that is to be transmitted to a third party client on a monthly basis.
The problem centers around the method of transfer, which is via FTP to a secure site hosted by the client.  When executed through Crystal, the FTP actually does achieve a successful login using the credentials the client provided (we have verified this repeatedly by looking at the logs), but the client's server "kicks out" when we attempt any operation on it.
A similar result was produced when we attempted to FTP to the site via the Windows command line.  The login was successful, but even a simple command to view the directory "dir" resulted in the connection being rejected.   To make a long story short, after reviewing the issue extensively with the client's technical department, our conclusion was that the problem was the result of the FTP sending in "active" mode instead of "passive".  We confirmed this by installing a freeware FileZilla on the same server, and switching between active and passive modes (active failed, passive did not).
Their tech people recommended that we contact SAP to get answers to two questions, which I'm hoping someone out there may know:
    1)  How does Business Objects Enterprise 11.5 execute the FTP process?  Is it using its own native logic or simply invoking the command line?
    2)  Is there any setting with the console that would enable us to modify the FTP settings to send force it to send in passive mode?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
This is a known limitation. BO only supports active mode for FTP. Refer 1782115 - Which FTP mode is supported as a schedule or publication destination for reference.
If you are able to write a batch file or a program object to transfer a file from a file location to Client FTP, you can try the below workaround.
    1. Add the script\batch file as a program object in BO. In the script make sure you include the code to delete the instance after it is successfully transmitted through FTP.
    2. Create a File event pointing to the location along with the name of the instance.
    3. Schedule the report to the file location with the specific instance name.
    4. Schedule the program object based on the file event you created in step 2.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error while generating the Business Object in Mobile Sales

    Hi,
I made changes to the Business Object BOCAPGEN.
Now I am trying to generate the business object but it is giving out the error saying
Error intializing RT Generator !.RT Generator Failed for ".Error arsrep.dat is in use so Generation cannot be done
I am not a MSA Developer and have no clue regarding MAS(Mobile Application Studio)
So any one can please give me a clue regarding the issue
I have solved it by closng all other application other than client console
    Thanks Guys

    Hi !
1 year later, I am facing the same problem.
I want to build MSA 4.0 SP8, everything runs fines until the end of the generation of the Tiles, the next step fails :
Error intializing RT Generator !.RT Generator Failed for ".Error arsrep.dat is in use so Generation cannot be done
Then around 10 thousands of error messages of that kind follow in the output window ; howeverin the end it says "Generation End" without telling whether it was successful or not (the first time the output window was too small, I thought all was OK )
Anyways, the Mobile Sales icon appeared on the desktop and when I try to launch it I get the error "Starting MobileSalesfailed".
During another attempt, I check with "Unlocker" the 2 arsrep.dat files I found under the BOL directory, it reported that none was used and locked at that moment.
Also I killed the vbagen.exe process before starting the build, but it was automatically launched after. (first build was launched after a reboot, the 2nd after the 1st failed + vbagen.exe process killed)
Does anyone have any clue ?
Another question is : what are the rights required ? I am a local administrator but I do not have full admin rights (the only thing I saw at the moment is I cannot access to Add/Delete Programs in the Control Panel)
    Thanks & Regards,
    François
