Business Process Flow and Structures of R/3 for BW

Dear Gurus,
Given that BW person need not have detail understanding of R/3 modules, like to know is there a book, from SAP or others, to bridge this gap? That is, one that enables BW person to have sufficient functional knowhow of all or some of the modules.
Appreciate if either Mary (Huang), Anil or Arun could advice what are the tables involved for inventory extraction and what functional knowledge is required.
best regards,
Bryan

Hi Arun,
Thanks, points awarded.
So, not knowing MM, does it mean you cannot be employed as BW for MM? Are you stuck with just extracting for the module you know? How is it in reality?
Are there more BW who were functional consultants first than BW who know BW only (as starting point for bw career)? I hope to get a concrete answer which I have so far not been able to get. Is it the norm for clients to employ only functionally-experienced Bw or a pure BW will do? What is it like in the real world, in USA, Europe or Australia or Asia?
When applying for a BW job, I had tried selling that I could explore and use Business Content to address the requirement as a first step approach to solutioning. I also said that usually if there is R/3 system, there would be existing client's functional team whom Bw person can check with for details and help on functional portion. Unfortunately, the interviewer did not like it. They want a bw person who can talk the functional lingo like a functional expert.
I had also encountered a situation where another company wanted a bw person to load just a few cubes for a R/3 module. They also insisted having a functional expert who is certified in BW.
What am I to do with my BW certificate? No one in the world wants to give me a chance. What is the value of a BW certificate which does not enable me to get a job as BW consultant? BW wannabes who do not come from functional background should avoid taking BW or risk suffering like me (still searching an answer as to what to do with this paper). And consider wisely before investing a big sum of money on such a course. Its a good course but is not advisable for non-functional people who want to be functional BW. In this world, no one would care to give you a chance to learn even if you sell for free. I speak from painful experience. I may never recover the investment I put in with my hard-earned savings.
Last but not least, which functional module must I invest in, again, to get the most chances for projects? Usually, is it only single module extraction or multi-module for projects? Which module should I learn? After learning that, how many years of functional experience must I clock before qualifying to be a BW person? Or would it better if I just stick to functional R/3? I just beg to know what exactly will qualify me a job.
TIA

  • To open a BPC excel input schedule through a Business Process Flow

    Hi,
    I have a Business Process Flow that has to open an excel input schedule.
    In the define actions tab of a Process step, I have chosen the BPC for excel interface and open template option.
    I browsed the necessary template to be opened.I have also provided the required inputs for member selection.
    Now when I open the Business Process Flow and Select this Process step, it opens only the BPC for excel interface and not the excel input schedule template.
    Can anyone expalin the reason that caused this problem and also a solution to fix this issue ?
    PS :I am trying to open this Business Process Flow using BPC Web and my BPC for excel is not open yet.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hello Aparna,
    Please select Application name in BPF.
    Please check for Application name in which you are opening the template.

  • BPC 7.0 - how to design business process flow type Planning process?

    Hi All
    BPC 5.1 system has Business Process Flow, to design synchronized activity plans for a set of user.
    Like we designed user planning in two step BPF -Step1 and Step2, where Step2 was activated only after user completed Step1.
    How to design such requirements in BPC NW 7.0 version?
    Thanks in advance.

  • BUSINESS PROCESS FLOW (BPF) TASK SETUP - CURRENT VIEW OPTIONS

    This article explains a few findings regarding the options on Current View Type for setting up Business Process Flow tasks and will discuss BPC for Excel, Data Manager and BPC Web tasks.
    Future posts will cover more tasks.
    This is valid for 5.x versions only.
      IMPORTANT NOTE:
    DATA MANAGER PACKAGES
        Data Manager Packages tasks such as Run Specific Package, Run User Package are not integrated
        with the Current View Type selection. Therefore, the options Inherit from Data Region, Inherit from
        Current View or Member Lookup does not work on Data Manager Packages. This is due to the diversity of Data Manager Packages, such as Import, Export, Clear, Default Formulas, each of them requiring a complete different set of parameters, some of them not related to the Current View.
    1. INHERIT FROM DATA REGION
      Once you choose to Open a BPF from BPC for Excel, you are prompted to choose the Data
      Region. Upon setting the desired Data Region, the Current View is changed
      accordingly on BPC Web.
        OPEN TEMPLATE / REPORT LIBRARY / SCHEDULE LIBRARY
        If a step is defined as Open Template/Report Library/Schedule Library
        and INHERIT FROM DATA REGION is set to one (or more) of the Data Region
        dimensions, the Current View on BPC for Excel should change to match
        the settings done Data Region settings, being the same as the one on BPC Web.
        SET WORK STATUS
        Same as above.
    2. INHERIT FROM CURRENT VIEW
        OPEN TEMPLATE / REPORT LIBRARY / SCHEDULE LIBRARY
        If a step is defined as Open Template/Report Library/Schedule Library and INHERIT FROM
        CURRENT VIEW is set to one (or more) dimensions, the report will pickup the Current View
        from BPC Web and BPC for Excel should change to match the Current View,
        being the same as the one on BPC Web.
        Example:
        1. Log on to BPC Admin on ApShell -> Manage Application Sets;
        2. Go to Business Process Flows -> Budgeting Process;
        3. Grant access to the BPF to your test user;
        4. Check Sub-Step 1 of Step 1 - Check Budget Data. This steps has a
           INHERIT FROM CURRENT VIEW setup (ENTITY).
        5. Log on to BPC Web on ApShell;
        6. Go to Open a Business Process Flow and choose Budgeting Process;
        7. Choose the desired Data Region;
        8. On BPC Web, verify the value setup for ENTITY on the Current View;
        9. Open the Check Budget Data;
        10. The ENTITY on the Current View will be set up accordingly to what
            was set on BPC Web.
        SET WORK STATUS
        Same as above.
    3. MEMBER LOOKUP
        OPEN TEMPLATE / REPORT LIBRARY / SCHEDULE LIBRARY
        If a step is defined as Open Template/Report Library/Schedule Library and MEMBER LOOKUP
        is set to one (or more) dimensions, the report will set the Current View
        on BPC for Excel to the member that was configured.
        Example:
        1. Log on to BPC Admin on ApShell -> Manage Application Sets;
        2. Go to Business Process Flows -> Budgeting Process;
        3. Grant access to the BPF to your test user;
        4. Check Sub-Step 1 of Step 1 - Check Budget Data. This steps has a
           MEMBER LOOKUP setup (CATEGORY).
        5. Log on to BPC Web on ApShell;
        6. Go to Open a Business Process Flow and choose Budgeting Process;
        7. Choose the desired Data Region;
        8. On BPC Web, verify the value setup for CATEGORY on the Current View;
        9. Open the Check Budget Data;
        10. The CATEGORY on the Current View will be set up accordingly to what
            was set on the Task configuration, in other words, there should be BUDGET set
            on the Current View.
        SET WORK STATUS
        Same as above.

  • Reg MM business process flow

    Hi All,
    Cud U pls let me know the business process flow in MM( Material Management )???
    Thanx in Advance

    Hi
    Generally any P2P cycle to start with the Requirement arises in the Industry so it starts with for stock materials
    (1) Purchase Requisition (PR)
    (2) Requst for quotaion (RFQ)
    (3) Maintain Quoatation (after recieving quoattion from different vendors)
    (4) Comparing Quotation (to select the best suitable vendor for purchasing the materials)
    (5) Purchase Order (PO)
    (6) Goods Reciept (GR)
    (7) Invoice Verification (IVR) comparing the items and cost in the invoice with the PO and GR we will clear it for payment where vendor will be credited.
    This is the general flow of P2P for stock materials. If we maintain source list (vendor records) we can compare the different vendors available at PR it self and thje steps 2,3,4 will not be there if we satisfy with the vendor prices available in the source list.
    If the P2P is for services In step 6 instead of GR we will do Service Entry.

  • Business Process Flow for old records

    A customer has asked us to decommission the Business Process Flow for a particular security role.
    I have done this and all is well for new records.
    Unfortunately the Process Bar still appears for old Leads.  I think I can understand the behaviour: if you change the process, the old records will still show process bar that existed at the time they were created.  This includes removing it presumably.
    My question is, can I remove the legacy instances of the process bar either through the interface or by code?

    Update: I created a command line to update the stageid and processid to NULL.
    These fields are now clear, however when I open an affected record the form pops up an error message:
    Unhandled Exception: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[[Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.OrganizationServiceFault, Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk, Version=7.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35]]: Cannot insert duplicate key.Detail:

  • BPC 7.5 NW Business Process Flow reopen function

    Hi,
    i have e question concerning the reopen function whithin business process flows.
    I set up a business process flow with several steps and use the match step region function. The users are able to go through the bpf steps just for one plant and they don't have to wait for the users of other plants. In most steps we implement a reopen function for the case that users want do add or correct something. I expect,  when I reopen one previous step, this step just reopen for one plant, but the reopen function opens the previous step for all plants.
    Are there any posibilities to use this reopen function just for one plant and not for all? Is  this perhaps a customizing issue?
    Thanks in advance

  • Test Repository - Use of our own business process model as structure

    We want to use our own business process model as structuring element in the test repository.
    I entered my hierarchy by the transaction STWBM using environment/application hierarchy / Customer.
    But my hierarchy is not visible in the test repository. Instead, there is always the SAP hierarchy.
    How can I use my hierarchy in the test repository?

    I have the same problem.
    We are new on using the solution manager to do the test.
    Now we want to put all the test cases (manual) in the test repository, and in other time link they to the other projects.
    But the question is: How can i storage the test case in the repository to garantee when I do a new project I dont forget any test case needed from  the repository?

  • Business Process Flows

    Dear Gurus,
    This is Keerthi and am working for utility client in the UK.  We are designing and developing SAP ISU as their business application.  They have a requirement of developing business process flows (step by step procedure flow chart) for various processes as listed below. If you can provide any reference documents, it would be of great help
    1. Manage Master Data (Contracts and BP)
    2. Billing and Debt Admin
    3. Incoming and Outgoing Payments
    4. Reconciliations
    5. Helpdesk
    Apart from this any inputs on RT easy and BW reports would be highly appreciated
    Thanks
    Keerthi

    Hi Pras,
    >Users or Groups we add for each BPF are the users who can access the BPF.
    >Owner or Reviewer of Entities should be part of these users to access the BPF and complete a step.
    >Reviwer can accept or reject the step.When step is rejected, its status will be changed from completed to uncomplete and user A may make changes and submit it again.
    >There can be any number of reviwers i guess. A comma seperated list of user list in reviwer property should do.But I havent tried this.
    >And the reviewer status is driven off by property from the drive dimension selected while defining BPF. In generall it is entity, but can be any dimension in which the reviwer property is defined.

  • Any change in Business Process Flow for BPC 7.0 NW from BPC 5.1

    Dear all,
      With the release of BPC 7.0 NW, i was wondering if there's any functional or technical differences in the Business Process Flow compared to BPC 5.1?
    Cheers

    I second Sorin's observations and comments. There are several limitations in using STS workaround. It is true that STS will be available to use with NW BI. However in order to use that you will have to create a planning area in BPS. Even after doing that you will not have the security framework of BPC available to you in STS. All you can do is list out the steps in the process flow, may be link your planning workbboks and have email notifications sent out upon completion. the other option mentioned was that of SAP workflow. Since BPC7NW has NW platform, SAP workflow is available to you and you can link the BPC process chains to it if you so desire. But again, it won't have BPC security and it won't be even close to BPF in look and feel. The best option is to wait till BPF becomes available in future BPC NW version to use.

        What is the Actual business process flow in SAP FICO?
    Can anyone give me the details.

    It depends on the business, modules implemented and configuration of the system
    You have the standard Supply Chain management (sale to cash) and  Supplier relationship management (procure to pay).

  • What is a Business Process Repository and where do we get it in SAP?

    Hi,
    What is a Business Process Repository and where do we get it in SAP?

    Hi,
    Here is an another way to look at the BPR-Business Process Repository delivered by SAP.
    1. Add the Web Dynpro application Business Process Repository (BPR) to your Favorites:
    2. Choose  Favorites  Add Other Objects  Web Dynpro Application  in the SAP initial screen.
    3. Enter SM_BPR_OVERVIEW in the field Web Dynpro Application.
    4. Enter a description like ex. SAP BPR
    5. Save your changes.
    6. Now Call the saved - Web Dynpro application SM_BPR_OVERVIEW
    7. You can see the BPR in a new browser window.
    This info is available in SAP Help on Solution Manager.
    Hope this helps.

  • Creating variables in Process Flows and using thse variables in the filter

    Hi,
    I am new to OWB and in learing stage. Need to information.
    *1. as to how pass/create/use variables to OWB mapping ?*
    *2. Creating variables in Process Flows and using thse variables in the filter operator of the OWB mapping?*
    *3. Other mechanisms of how to create/use variables within OWB mapping itself ?*
    can you please provide the above details and guide me / help me in this regard.
    Thanks,
    skms.

    1. Add parameters to your mapping using the MAPPING INPUT PARAMETER from the pallette.
    2. Add parameters to the START operator in the process flow. Bind the process flow parameter to the Mapping parameter.
    3. May be appropriate to use CONSTANTS instead of parameters.
