BUSINESS QUESTION - iPhone Support For Advertising

1. As a developer, can I build in support for advertising on the iPhone 3G?
2. If I build an iPhone business application, can I support ADs today? Future?

I think Google should be able to locate ad networks that serve ads in a size supported on the iPhone. I know Google AdSense does but I have a feeling it wouldn't generate many clicks.
You have to have an account with an ad network in order to use their code in any web based application. If you aren't accepted into a network that supports iPhone sized ads, you won't be able to include code beyond a placeholder until you are accepted into a network.

  • No 3G iPhone support for Greek language/keyboard!

Last Friday, the very first day of appearance of iPhone in the greek market, I bought, from a greek Vodafone shop, a 16GB iPhone 3G.
It was quite a bad surprise and disappointment to me, when i realized that greek language was not included and supported in the international language and keyboard package of the device! That makes it the first mobile phone Vodafone provides to the greek market, without supporting greek language! When I mentioned that to Vodafone people, here in Athens, Greece, they blamed Apple for that problem. They said that a new firmware update is expected by Apple, and probably then the problem will be solved!!
So, ladies and gentlemen, is there any information about the availability of greek language/keyboard support for the 3G iPhone?
    Thank you for your time

i sen this to support under enhancement request in case anyone is bored of typing:
    Hi,
I recently signed a contract with vodafone Greece for 46 € plan (one of the more expensive from the countries that the iPhone is available) in order to get an iPhone 3G 16GB for 430 € (also one of the highest prices of iPhone with a contract) only to find out that there is no Greek Keyboard. This is unacceptable. I don't care for which other countries you have made keyboard or not (although you make sure to rub it in my face) but the essence of the iphone is that it is a tool to have with you all the time and if the is no ability to right in your native language it is rendered useless. The think that is more frustrating is that those who bought the iPhone from abroad (at 1/4 of the price) and jailbroke it have a Greek keyboard, made by Greek hackers/programmers.
Today comes, as i am told the 2.1 firmware update and i sincerely hope that it has the Greek keyboard in it otherwise my (and many other i spoke with that bought the iPhone due to its features and not due to the Apple brand) loyalty to the Apple brand (which is already in bad shape due to the Greek retailer Rainbow) is going to be in jeopardy.
    please fix this
    thank you

  • IPhone support for H.264 with B-Frame

    Hi All,
In the iPhone documentation, it is mentioned that iphone supports:
    - H.264 Baseline Profile Level 3.0 video, up to 640 x 480 at 30 fps. Note that B frames are not supported in the Baseline profile.
Are there plans to support B-frames in the near future ? Do you think iPhone 3G will have B frames supported ?
    Thank you very much,
    kusno mudiarto

As noted in the above article, support for H.264 in the native HTML5 player on Windows 7 launched 7 weeks ago in Firefox 21.
The forum software detected your Firefox as version 18. Is that correct?
Version 18 is not secure; Mozilla discloses [https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html security flaws] after each new release. Is something holding you back from upgrading to Firefox 22? Please let us know so we can suggest solutions or workarounds.
If Help > About Firefox shows Firefox 22.0, you may need to clear the preference that is misreporting your version number. See: [[Websites say that Firefox is outdated or incompatible even though it's the latest version]].

  • IPhone - Support for wired remotes

I have been looking all over the place for a wired remote for the iPhone 3G with no luck (and yes I have looked through this forum for an answer before asking my question).
I have attempted to use three wired remotes from my previous iPods, but two of them do not work at all and the third is completely unreliable. It is an Apple branded wired remote for the iPod video with similar design to the iPod Shuffle and allows you to connect your own headphones. It will only function after a hard-reset of the iPhone 3G, and strangely it takes about a minute or two for the buttons to work. If I unplug and replug the remote it will no longer be recognised and will not work again until the iPhone 3G is restarted.
I cannot see any wired remote products in the Apple store and I keep getting blank stares whenever I take this question to sales persons.
I use my iPod extensively and the only reason I bought an iPhone 3G was because I was tired of missing calls whilst listening to mp3s. I consider the wired remote as being essential for satisfactory use when out running, driving the car, etc. Without it the iPod functionally is all but useless to me.
Is there a wired remote that the iPhone 3G supports?

All those views and no responses, eh.
    Thanks Apple.
For continuing to throw your loyal customers under the bus and forcing them to buy new accessories with each generation of iPod/iPhone I will never, ever buy another Apple product again.

  • Question on Support for XML in Oracle 9i and XDK 9.0.1

    Hi All,
I just went through the Oracle 9i's features for XML. I have been working with Oracle's XDK too. I noticed that there are some new packages in Oracle 9i like SYS_XMLGEN and DBMS_XMLGEN that produce a XML file when presented a query to it. This feature is there in the XDK (XML SQL Utility) too. So, my question is as follows:
    1. Are there any differences in the XML File produced by XDK and these database packages?
    2. What are the scenerios when I should go for these packages and when should I go for the XSQL Utility.
Cos I found out that both are doing effectively the same things. Is there any difference between them? Please explain the second question.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rajat

The sys_xmlagg and sys_xmlgen are native implementations of functionality tied into the database code line. They replicate some of the functionality that was previously provided in a 'plugin' form by the XDK. DBMS_XMLGEN is a PLSQL Package that also provides access to native implimentations of some of this functionalitu. You should find that as a result of being native implimentation they are much more performant.
SYS_XMLGEN and SYS_XMLAGG allow XML to be generated directly from a SQL Query. DBMS_XMLGEN is designed for use in procedural processing and provides a finer grain of control over the generated output.
There are still some features, such as DTD and Schema generation that are not (yet) available with the native implementation, and for this reason, and backwards compatability the XDK functionality is still available
As a rules of thumb, if you can use the native implimentations do so, as performance should be much better.

  • How many playlists will iPhone support for iTunes? I seem to have hit a limit.

I seemed to be capped at 35 playlists in my iTunes on my iPhone. Is this the limit - does anyone know? Thanks.

I don't think so. The iPhone will support more than hundred of playlists. Don't know the exact number.

  • Future support for using PL/SQL core business logic with ADF BC

We want to migrate our large Forms client/server (6i) application to ADF, possibly using a migration tool like Ciphersoft Exodus.
One scenario could be to use ADF BC and ADF-Faces or a different JSF-Implementation for presentation and business layer but keep our heavy PL/SQL-businesslogic inside the Oracle database in packages, triggers, functions and procedures.
This scenario could be chosen due to the huge amount of interconnected logic inside the database (10 years of development; no technical components; any package may access any table and more of this kind of dependencies). The business logic nowadays held in Forms client will be moved mainly into the database as a prerequisite to this scenario.
Choosing this "keep-logic-in-DB"-scenario we need a good support by ADF BC to do so. We know and prototyped that it is possible to call some PL/SQL via JDBC from ADF BC and it is possible to use stored procedure calls for standard business entity data access (ins, del, upd, ..). But this does not solve our problems. We want to reuse core business logic coded in PL/SQL. This is much more than change the ADF standard behavior for an update with an own PL/SQL-call.
    Now my question:
Will there be a kind of sophisticated support to use ADF BC in combination with database-kept logic?
If so, when will this happen and how will the common problems of transactional state inside the database and inside the ADF BC be solved? Any plans or ideas yet?
Many other clients do have similar applications built in Forms and PL/SQL and would be glad to hear about a path of direction.
I've read the technical article 'understanding the ADF BC state management feature' which you have contributed to. One current limitation is pointed out there: Using PL/SQL with ADF BC limits ADF AM pooling to 'restricted level' which reduces scalability.
Are you aware of additional main problems/tasks to solve when using PL/SQL heavily with ADF BC, which we have to think about?
    Thank you for any response.
    Ingmar

My main problem is two 'concurrent' areas holding state in an application system based on DB-stored PL/SQL-logic in combination with ADF BC.
For a new System everything can be made ok:
Sure, it is possible to build a new system with the business logic included in ADF BC only. All long-living state will be handled in the BC layer ( including support for UnitsOfWork longer than the webside short HTTP-requests and HTTP-sessions and longer than the database transactions.
For an old system these problems arise:
    1. DB data changes not reflected in BC layer:
Our PL/SQL-logic changes data in tables without notifying the ADF BC layer (and its cache). To keep the data in ADF BC entity objects identical to the changed database content a synchronization is needed. BC does not know which part of the application data has been changed because it has not initiated the changes through its entity objects. Therefore a full refresh is needed. In a Forms4GL environment the behavior is similar: We do frequently requeries of all relevant (base)tables after calling database stored logic to be sure to get the changed data to display and to operate on it.
-> Reengineering of the PL/SQL-logic to make the ADF BC layer aware of the changes is a big effort (notifying BC about any change)
    2. longer living database transactions
Our PL/SQL-logic in some areas makes use of lengthy database transactions. The technical DB-transaction is similar to the UnitOfWork. If we call this existing logic from ADF BC, database state is produced which will not be DB-committed in the same cycle.
This reduces scalability of ADF BC AM pooling.
    Example:
    a) Call a DB-stored logic to check if some business data is consistent and prepare some data for versioning. This starts a DB-transaction but does not commit it.
    b) Control is handed back to the user interface. Successful result of step a) is displayed
    c) User now executes the versioning operation
    d) Call another DB-stored logic to execute the versioning. DB-transaction is still open
    e) Business layer commits the transaction automatically after successful finishing step d). Otherwise everything from a) to e) is rolled back.
-> redesign of this behavior (= cutting the 1to1 relation between LogicalUnitOfWork and the technicalDatabaseTransaction is a big effort due to the big amount of code.

  • Does the eBooks created by iBooks Author support for iphone now?

I have been read some blogs discussing that the iPhone could gain new support for ebooks made by iBooks Author. And now, I wanna know whether the prediction is true or not. I can' t find any annoucement from Apple to confirm this point. Does anyone answer my confusion.

With the current software ..books created using iBooks Author cannot be viewed on iPhones.
iBooks Author creates books that can only...be used with iPads and on Macs with Mavericks installed, by using iBooks.
Thats it...no rumours. Blogs or to be more accurate...some of those who  contribute to them seem to either be totally stupid, or like to make themselves look as if they have inside knowledge.
Apple created iBooks Author to allow self publishers create and publish books to the store. But not just novels or text only type books. iBA made these books allow audio / video ..and much much more than any novel. That being so....most interactive multi media books will not really display well on a screen the size if the iPhone.
Apple are more concerned in getting iPads in use more by business and education at all levels.
The only rumour that may well become fact is a larger sized screen for a bigger iPad  mid to late 2014.

  • Managing iPhone(s) for Business

    Hello,
I have been looking for a while to determine the best way to manage iPhones we use for our business. We have several people with iPhones and I am not quite sure how this works with the Apple ID. Some of the users do not have an Apple ID and since these are the company's phones I beleive this ID should be the same for all phones so that we can manage them through one account. The question is how do we do this? Do we setup an Apple ID for the company instead of each user having thier own? For the most part each user has different contacts but the access to the phone is fairly typical. When they were new we did not set them up with an Apple ID and/or iCloud account but I wouldl ike to use the Find my iPhone app for locating lost devices, etc and want to be able to see them all on a community list so that we are not having to track phones with idividual Apple ID/iCloud accounts.
    Thanks!

What I've done is have a global iTunes account that's used for find my iPhone
Separate account for VPP for apps
iOS devices are managed by mdm (profile manager)
Users can use their personal iTunes account on the devices if they wish
What you have to be careful of is users enabling iCloud calendar etc
And suddenly broadcasting their appointments  to one and all because all devices are on the same global iCloud  iTunes account
Or changing the main iCloud account to their own which removes the device from the company iTunes find my iPhone
What I do if they want their own iTunes account on the device is move the company find my iPhone iCloud
To a secondary icloud account setup on the device which is not the primary default icloud account
Users see when they first enter setting, so it's less likely to get fiddled with
I don't restrict settings on the devices, you could always enable it to stop users fiddling about
Depending on your company policy you may need to let users know they can be tracked at any time via find my iPhone
Although not that accurately at times
I think an mdm solution would be better than relying on find my iPhone which could easily be disabled by users
Profiles pushed to devices can also be removed but if you structure your profile you can make it so if a user deletes the profile, they loose everything mail network etc
Most mdm solutions can lock wipe etc devices

  • Turkish Language Support for iPhone

    When will
Turkish Language Support for iPhone and
    Turkish Keyboard Support for iPhone
    Turkish Auto-Correction and Turkish Dictionary
    be available?

Yes, Apple never responds such questions. I also sent them feedback on their web site (http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html). No response.
Happily though, Apple released iPhone firmware 2.2. And with that Turkish language support and Turkish Keyboard support (sort of) are available at last! (Several months later Apple officially released iPhone in Turkey!)
Turkish Keyboard support is sort of available because it is not a real keyboard. You can see and use Turkish characters only by pressing your finger on their english counterparts and waiting a while. Auto correction for Turkish language is not available yet.
PS: I do not wait a response from Apple. I just want to hope that some folks from Apple may be reading these discussions.
    thanks

  • Does iphone supports IPv6 traffic for icloud?

    Hi Everybody,
Does iphone supports IPv6 traffic for icloud application?

    ckuan
The question was whether iPhones supports IPv6 protocol. Why would it matter if the network supports IPv4, IPv6, Dual stack or any other protocol? The straight answer is NO it does not as of today (even if the users have to worry about it or not, which is irrelavent imho).

I am at Ramstein AB Germany.  My iphone screen was smashed badly on the flight to Germany this morning.  WHEN I access apple support for this subject it gives me 3 options call now, call me now or call me later.  As I am in Germany with no coverage and no working phone none of those options will work.  Can you get this e-mail to someone who can help.  My iphone serial # is C38xxxxxx. 1) I need to know where and how I can get a replacement somewhere nearby in Germany 2) If 1 is not an option I need to set up an appt to get a to get a new iphone at an apple store in Atlanta GA in the evening of 11 July.
Thank you very much, Phil Edelen

Thanks, my wife is the one serving I am retired and trying to follow her as much as I can.
I will schedule an appt for my next time stateside.  I have spent too much time on many Apple web sites trying to get an e-mail to communicate with anyone at Apple to no avail, only phone numbers. I guess if you are overseas with no international access you are out of luck communicating with them.  I did find one e-mail address but the reply was computer generated and provided useless links.
If anyone has any e-mail address for anyone at Apple I would appreciate it.
    Thanks again,
    Phil

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?
