Business Rules are inconsistent in Planning

Can someone confirm if ALL business rules have to be consistent in these both places:
1. Navigate Icon -> Administer -> Calc Manager -> you drill down to Rules BR
2. Tools -> Business Rules
Why am I seeing differences between the two???

If you have not deployed all the rules from calc manager then there will be a difference.

  • Business Rules not available in Planning

I logged into EAS console and created a business rule against my planning outline. It validated properly and even runs properly from the EAS console (changes data as expected).
But when I log into Planning to assign this rule to a form the business rule is not listed either under the TOOLS > Business rules menu option or under the Business Rules Tab in Form editor.
What do I need to do to get this business rule into Planning?

    I am on 9.3.1.
I have 2 servers, the essbase (hy01) and the planning (hy06). When logging into EAS I usually select the essbase server to log into (hy01). I created 1 business rule while logged into hy01 and it appeared when I logged into planning through workspace. I associated that BR with the outline hy06/AppName/DBname and used that as the location as well.
After that business rule was a grand success if I log into hy01 when logging onto EAS and then try to expand the BR node I get a "Error logging in to Business Rules. The repository has not been configured or you are not authorized to use Business Rules."
But I can log into EAS using hy06 and access the business rules just fine (including the original one). But every business rule I have created since then does not show up into planning.
So, in retrospect, I guess my question might be why can't I use Business Rules when logging into EAS through the Essbase server (hy01) but have full functionality when logging in through planning server (hy06) except for being able to then see the business rules I create in Planning through Workspace?
I am logged in as admin and no permissions have changed.

  • Business rules from epma to planning

    Hi,
In EPMA version 11.1.12 I am having an issue with business rules. I wrote and deployed a business rule from EPMA to planning and everything was fine, the rule ran on save in the data form.
Now, I tried to run the rule a few days later and it won't run. I tried to remove and re-add the rule, but now its not visible. In planning, I can't see 'business rule security' in the administration drop down.
I deployed the application and all the rules and everything is successful, but still nothing in planning. In another application the rules are there.
How could a business rule disappear from planning and not show up again when it was deployed? Any help is appreciated. Thanks,
    Dq

We sometimes see similar issues when the services are recycled in the wrong order. Perhaps a service failed or was restarted (after you had been successful in running the business rule from Planning)?

  • Business Rule Sequence Error in Planning

    Hello Everyone,
I have a Planning application where users can run a sequence of rules by going to Tools > Business Rules and selecting the sequence. The sequence has about 8 rules in it. The sequence errors after the 7th rule (a currency conversion/calculation which takes upwards of 12 minutes). The logs do not say anything about an error, however, it does say that the active user was cleared on the database. (The BR log says that the rule never finished but the Essbase log says that it finished. The following rule in the sequence never starts.
Note: The business rule sequence completes without errors when the sequence is started from Essbase Administration Services.
Is there some type of timeout/setting update I should look at or any suggestions on where to look within the business rule?
    Thank you,
    Mark

    Hi,
Have a read of the following :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_hp_admin/ch02s07s04.html
It explains how to set the threshold before business rules are run in the background to get around timeouts.

  • Form Performance Degrades after Business Rules are added to Run on Save

Has anyone ever seen an instance where adding business rules to a form (run on save only) makes the form open twice as slow?
We have some large forms that were opening in about 20 seconds that suddenly started taking twice as long (40 seconds). When we remove the association of the business rule, they are opening quickly again. Because the business rules are set to run on save, I'm not sure why they would affect the form open performance.
    Any ideas are appreciated.
    - Jake

I am guessing here a bit.
But a question. Is your calc complicated? does it have a lot of variable in the calc?
My guess is that even though the calc is run on save when you open it it compiles the calc as you open it. A check is to create a really simple calc one line that basically does nothing and see if that changes your performance. Also if you click off "run on save" does the performance return?
    Just theory guessing here.

  • Business Rules are disappearing from forms in Hyperion Planning v 11.1.1.3

We are using Calculation Manager to create business rules in a planning v 11.1.1.3 application using EPMA, web logic and SQL Server. We have had several instances where business rules that were attached to forms suddenly would disappear. The form still is aware that there is an attached rule, because the application and database name appears in the Business Rules section of the form. However, all of the business rules in the application are no longer visible (i.e. the rule names are blank). The only way we have found to correct the problem is to make a copy of the rules in Calculation Manager and then redeploy the rules and re-attach them to the forms. The old rules still show up with blank descriptions. This has happened at two different locations and seems to corresond with application deployment, although intermittent. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks...

If I understand what you're saying, I had the same or similar thing happen to me recently with v11.1.1.3, only I'm using classic Business Rules. I don't know why the problem occurs, although I think the root cause is probably related to inter-server communications, not to the corruption or loss of metadata. It happened to me in the target environment when I exported the rules from one environment and imported them into another.
When I encountered the problem, I opened and then saved (without changing anything) the business rule cluster I use for managing access rights. That resolved the problem, my guess is by giving the application servers enough of a kick in the pants to start talking to one another again.
I don't know whether this helps any, but I just thought I'd let you know you're not the only one who has seen this problem.
    Regards.

  • Business Rules Not Visible in Planning.............

    Hi All,
I have created business rules in Essbase & works well. But Those are not showed in planning App.Here , While i'm
creating Business Rules ,able to access for essbase only , when click on planning to shows unable login planning.
    Plzzzzzzzz help out.......
    Thanks

I am having the same problem with accessing business rules in version 9.3.1. I have been working with Oracle support for 5 months now trying to resolve this and they have not been able to help.
This application has been up and running for over a year before this behavior occurred. Previously users were able to view and run business rules. It is only affecting non-native authenticated users. The admin user and natively authenticated users can run/edit & vaidate rules. In order to run business rules all users have to log in with the admin user ID (not a good solution).
Any ideas, clues or new method of debugging this issue would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Business rules and CalcScripts in Planning

    Hi Friends
In Planning if we go to Tools-> Business Rules, we can see all the calc scripts and Business rules associated with the available plan types. Is there any way we can limit to see only business rules not the calc scripts.some of our Finance users have admin access to planning, so we do not want them to access and run calc scripts in planning.
    We are on 9.3.3
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,

If they are admins they are probably going to see everything.
Some Oracle support docs may be of some use for users that are not admins:
"Planning Interactive user is not able to see and run calc script within Planning web [ID 738394.1]"
"Set Access Privileges For Calc Scripts In A Planning Application [ID 753367.1]"

  • Business Rules are not imported in deployment process

    Dear friends:
I am deploying a project. The project has 23 business rules.
In the Oracle BPM Process Administrator,--> Projects --> In the column Business Rules --> Details , There are not one business rule imported which was created in Oracle BPM Studio.
What is happening? Something is wrong in the deployment process?
Or what is the correct way to write business rule for a project?
    I hope your answers.
    Best Regards,
    Danny

    Hi Danny,
If you're using Oracle BPM Enterprise running on WebLogic you're ok. I know it's disconcerting, but your business rules were really created and deployed. It's a cosmetic bug that prevents them from being able to be viewed in the Process Administrator tool.
    Hope this helps,
    Dan

  • Security for Business Rules on Planning Menus

We recently upgraded to 11.1.2.3.500. Planning is patched to 11.1.2.3.501. We have right-click menus that are used on our data forms to launch business rules. We are finding that users without access to the business rules are able to see the rules on the menu and run them successfully from the right-click menu.
When the user goes to Tools > Business Rules and clicks "Display only launchable rules, rulesets, and calc scripts", it shows no rules listed, yet when they use the right-click menu, they can see the items from the menu that are associated with a rule, and use that item to run the rule. If you go to Tools > Job Console, you can see the rule as executed under the user's name.
In our old version, 11.1.2.1, if the user did not have access to the business rule, then the item would not show on the menu and therefore they couldn't run the rule.
Is this a known bug in the 11.1.2.3.500? Any ways to resolve or workaround this?
    Thanks in advance!

Have you had a look at the planning 502 patch to see if this has been resolved, sometimes the bugs addressed in the patch are quite cryptic so it is worth trying the patch out anyway, if you have not already it is probably worth logging with Oracle.

  • Business Rule Of Sample Application in Planning

    Hi Planning Gurus,
I am unable to find where the business rule is saved in Planning Application (Sample Application shipped with Planning), though i see some default Rules under Business Rule within Admin console like aggall etc. But where are the basic calc like Revenue=Unit*Unit Price.
    Thanks & regards
    N Kumar

If the location and access has been set up on the business rule then they should appear soon after in planning.
If no business rules are showing and depending on your version, check that HBRServer.properties exists in the planning web server strucure e..g \Hyperion\deployments\Tomcat5\HyperionPlanning\webapps\HyperionPlanning\WEB-INF\classes

  • Unable to access to Business rules from planning

    HI all,
We are using Hyperion Planning 9.3.1, Essbase 9.3.1 and AAS 9.3.1.
Unfortunately, we are not able to access to business rules from planning.
All rights are set properly, the business rules are visible through AAS 9.3.1 and are accessible from all locations.
When we go to tools/business rules and select the database, we are not able to see any business rules.
If someone has any idea, it will help us a lot,
Thanks for reading this post, guys.

    Thanks for your help John,
Unfortunately, we do not have the directory \HyperionPlanning\webapps\HyperionPlanning\WEB-INF\classes\.
We tried to put the file in the directory \HyperionPlanning\deployment\tomcat\HyperionPlanning\webapps\HyperionPlanning\web-inf\classes\
    But it still doesn't work.
For your information, we are currently using TOMCAT as web server.

  • Business Rules error when creating new classic planning application in 9.3.

Im trying to create a new planning application using classis planning application wizard in Workspace. everything seems alright untill i gets an error saying "Business rules cant connect to Planning"
other than this Business rules working fine and i can open business rules in other applications and i can access business rules repository in EAS.
    Any thoughts on this ?

Further invesitgation bears this problem out.
Oracle support recommend wrapping the SimpleType in a ComplexType. This does work, but now I have an extra wrapper element to deal with. I either have to use the wrapped type in my other complex, composed Types and/or add an external wrapping element when trying to create Business Services in BPM to call the BusinessRules I've created.
    This is a bit messy.
To be clear, this does not seem to be an issue with Business Rules; the BR editor and generation of Facts (including simple restricted types -> JAXB 2.0/Java Enumerations) seems to work correctly. There seems to be an issue exposing DFs as Services. The code which generated the WSDL and its supporting types seems to choke on restricted SimpleTypes.
As a side note, it seems that HumanTasks have a similar limitation

  • Cannot see Business Rules in Planning

    Hi,
I am not able to see business rules in Hyperion Workspace 11.1.2.1. I have provided access to the admin group and assigned the BR to the correct planning applications and planning server.
I am able to view them in EAS but in Planning, i am unable to do so.
Any idea what i am missing?

I take it you have recycling the services to rule out a communication issue, if so have you checked the logs for any errors.
Also it is worth having a read of the following Oracle Support doc - "Hyperion Business Rules Visibility Within Hyperion Planning [ID 1110438.1]"
