Business Rules Icon in EAS Enterprise view

Dear All,
I am currently using Hyperion planning 11.1.2.2, in EAS the Business rules icon (To use graphical mode) is not displayed in Enterprise view.
EPMA and calculation manager are not installed, I use instead classic application .
When I checked the roles attributed to admin user (Provisioning Tree) in Shared services, I did not find Business rules Role in the "Available Roles" Panel (the left one : there is only essbase cluster, foundation and planning)
Is it related to essbase installation? I did not install essbase integration service.
PS: when I created my application I could not choose Business Rules in the Application creation panel, it was not available back then
thank you for your help.
Regards

From the docs : "Oracle Hyperion Calculation Manager has replaced Oracle Hyperion Business Rules as the mechanism for designing and managing business rules, therefore, Business Rules is no longer released with EPM System Release 11.1.2.2. If you are applying 11.1.2.2 as a maintenance release, or upgrading to Release 11.1.2.2, and have been using Business Rules in an earlier release, you must migrate to Calculation Manager rules in Release 11.1.2.2."
Cheers

  • Business Rules Visible in EAS

    Hi,
We migrated one business rule from Staging to Production environment but when trying to see these business rules in EAS, they are all disappeared.
Could you please let me know what should I do to get them back in EAS...
    Thanks,
    UB

    UB,
Please tell me what version of EPM you are using?
What kind of Planning application you are using (EPMA or classic)?
Have you used "For Calc Mngr" option to export rules from Staging environment (for V11)?

  • Strange Business rule behaviour in EAS

    Hi,
We are testing some changes to the caches for a planning app. As part of this a number of business rules are be run concurrently to simulate what happens in production. The business rules, with a large data set, are started from EAS, as they are in production as they are run by admins. The first two start fine but when the third is run one of two things happen.
    1. The first two started show completed after a few seconds while the third one is running
    2. An error saying 'Detail: Cannot Calculate. Analytic Server Error(1013131): Failed to start Asynchronous thread' appears on the 3rd business rule
It doesn't seem to matter the order the business rules are run in. The same rule is run more than once but with different variables.
I have restarted planning. I also read about the system properties HBR_MAX_WAIT_FOR_RULE and HBR_MONITOR_DELAY. They were added before my time to resolve the business rules appearing to error but continuing to run in the background. The settings are
    HBR_MAX_WAIT_FOR_RULE: 180000
    HBR_MONITOR_DELAY: 90000
I would appreciate any suggestions as I haven't seen this before.
For info, prod is a better spec environment but with lower data and index caches but is slow hence the tuning exercise in UAT.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

    Hi Nathan,
Are you using SET CALCPARALLEL in your business rule.
Your log mentions about creating a thread, so I thought if you can serialize in stead of parallelling the calculation, it might work.

  • Business Rules security from EAS throwing error while adding locations

    Hi,
Currently we are trying to provide security to the BR's from EAS. As a part of which, we are trying to add location to the BR's. When we expand the Planning node on Locations, it throws the error, "Cannot connect to the Planning server <server name>". When we expand the Essbase server, we do see the application and database, but after a long time, around 10 mins.
After a call with Oracle, we have restarted the services RMI, EAS and planning in the sequence suggested. Also checked the RMI service, its running fine as well. Below is the error from hbrclient.log
    "2011-08-06 20:41:58, 076 Warn AWT-Eventqueue -0 com.hyperion.hbr.core.metadatamanagerserviceremote - cannot retrieve connected rppt element for planning/a01gidssapp2a"
Hbrserver.log doesnt have any error. We also have performed reconfiguration of Planning services, but still no help.
Appreciate if someone can help us resolve the issue, since we have to release the servers for Planning by tomorrow. Thanks in advance.

I assume that you are using BR as calculation module.
    1. Try creating a new test user say HBRADMIN,
    2. Provide him the admin access to BR, Essbase and Planning App,
    3. Log into Planning Application,
    4. Check the HBR Plugin Data table in EAS schema/databse, see if there is any entries in that table,
    5. Now, Log into EAS console,
    6. Try creating a test BR,
    7. Select outline,
    8. Select Location,
    9. Add access.
If there is no entry in the HBR Plugin table, try making a manual entry, below is an example:
         HP11113     11333     App1     HP11113     admin     AABPAAANAAEKAAEHAABPAADOAAAIAAFG     8/7/2011 1:05:16 PM
AABPAAANAAEKAAEHAABPAADOAAAIAAFG is an encrypted password for 'password'.
    Cheers...!!!

  • Business Rules login failed

When I try to access to the Business Rules in the EAS Enterprise View (I'm logged as admin), it says
    "Business Rules Login Failed"
If I go in Shared Services I can't provision additional roles to the admin user because the role related to Business Rules is not present.
It seems that Business Rules is not correctly configured.
So what I have to do?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    1. When you login into Shared services, on left hand side ,you see User directories and Application groups.
    2. Expand "Application groups" , here do you see Business Rules.
    3. You are telling us ,after you have expanded essbase, thats not needed.
Hope this is clear to you

  • Can't associate Planning Outline to Business Rule in EAS

    Hi all
I've searched through this forum but can't seem to find a solution to my issue on any of the existing threads, I have tried what has been suggested to others who seem to have the same problem. My issue is this ... When I have a Business Rule open in EAS, and I try to associate the outline to my Planning Application, I can't see my Planning app. This problem goes both ways ... I can't associate an outline to my Planning App from EAS, and in Planning I can't see the BR's that are added to my forms.
Some history to the issue and what I've tried so far:
This is happening in a test environment, we used this environment a while back to test the changing of the Admin password and what the impact would be. The Admin password was changed successfully and all the components seem to work (EAS, Planning, Workspace, Shared Services) to be honest I didn't test the Business Rules at the time so I don't know if this is causing the problem that I have now. The test environment hasn't been used in a while (besides the testing of the admin password) so I'm not sure at what point this problem started and if the changing of the Admin password is the cause.
I'm not sure if I've messed up something with the RMI Registry because EAS and Planning can't seem to see each other??
    I have tried: (without success)
    - Changing the password back to what it was originally
    - Running the Planning configuration tool
    - I have created a new Planning application and can associate a BR in EAS to the new App but still can't see the existing App.
    - From within Planning, I have selected 'Administration' -> 'Manage Database' and recreated the Application (selected 'create' rather than 'refresh')
    - From within Workspace, when I selected 'Navigation' -> 'Administer' -> 'Classic Application Administration' -> 'Planning Administration' The existing Application does not show up
on the list, only the new test application that I created.
The environment that I am working in:
    Planning Classic Application
Version 11.1.1.3 (EAS, Planning, Workspace, Shared Services)
    Oracle Solaris on SPARC (32-bit)
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I know that I mentioned that this is on a test environment but I need this environment to set up user training and I need to be able to simulate the business process which means running a Business Rule from a form in Planning.
    Kind Regards,
    Fraser

No need to reply, I sorted it out by changeing the EDIT_DIM_ENABLED property to true, now I can change the Calculation module option from 'Calculation Manager' to 'Business Rules'

  • How to Load Business Rule XML in 9.3.1

    Hello,
I am using EAS 9.3.1. On the Business Rules component, I selected Export Business Rules, and it invited me to export all business rules, variables, macros, and projects into one xml file. Now I cannot figure out how to load that xml file. I am copying from a production environment to a development environment, because we moved the database of the development environment to another server. I have reconfigured the applications and databases. What do I have to do to load the xml file?
    Thank you,

Thank you. I was getting the following error, and I thought it meant, I cannot expand the Business Rules icon because I did not have any business rules. If this something I configured incorrectly, or something the DBA missed?
Error logging in to Business Rules. The repository has not been configured or you are not authorized to use Business Rules.
Detail:Error creating DBConfig object. Please check if there are exceptions in the log file and if HBR is configured correctly.

  • Business Rules error when creating new classic planning application in 9.3.

Im trying to create a new planning application using classis planning application wizard in Workspace. everything seems alright untill i gets an error saying "Business rules cant connect to Planning"
other than this Business rules working fine and i can open business rules in other applications and i can access business rules repository in EAS.
    Any thoughts on this ?

Further invesitgation bears this problem out.
Oracle support recommend wrapping the SimpleType in a ComplexType. This does work, but now I have an extra wrapper element to deal with. I either have to use the wrapped type in my other complex, composed Types and/or add an external wrapping element when trying to create Business Services in BPM to call the BusinessRules I've created.
    This is a bit messy.
To be clear, this does not seem to be an issue with Business Rules; the BR editor and generation of Facts (including simple restricted types -> JAXB 2.0/Java Enumerations) seems to work correctly. There seems to be an issue exposing DFs as Services. The code which generated the WSDL and its supporting types seems to choke on restricted SimpleTypes.
As a side note, it seems that HumanTasks have a similar limitation

  • Using Y-T-D values in Business Rules

    Hi All,
I am using Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.1.0.
I have enabled Y-T-D dynamic time series in the application.
I need to calculate YTD variance% , the formula to be used is :
    (Y-T-D(Oct)Budget - Y-T-D(Oct) Actual) / Y-T-D(Oct)Budget * 100.
I have a business rule(created in EAS) that does the other variance % calculations which are pretty simple like Budget-Actual/Budget*100.
The formuls for the normal variance Percentage works but i get an error when writing a formula for :
    "Variance%(YTDActual&YTDBudget)"
    ("Variance%(YTDActual&YTDBudget)"="Y-T-D(&CurrentMonth)"->Budget - "Y-T-D(&CurrentMonth)"->Actual / "Y-T-D(&CurrentMonth)"->Budget *100;)
The error that comes up is as follows:
Detail:Cannot calculate. Analytic Server Error(1200497): Error compiling formula for [Variance%(YTDActual&YTDBudget)] (line 2): unknown member name ["Y-T-D(&CurrentMonth)"] in function [operator @X]
Can somebody please advice as how to use Y-T-D values in the formulas?
    Kind Regards.
    Mirka

Here are a couple of tips that may help:
    1) You cannot directly reference dynamic-time-series members in a business rule or a member formula. These are "virtual" members. This is a common misconception.
    2) Even if you could reference these members in a formula, you couldn't store a value in them anyway, as they are dynamic.
    3) It usually doesn't make a lot of sense to calculate variances like these in a business rule. I would recommend making them dynamic, two-pass member formulas (not business rules) in your Scenario dimension. They don't need to be "Two pass" in the typical sense (eg. recalculating a ratio at the quarters), but they need to fire last, so set them as two pass. (otherwise you will end up with order of calculation issues where other calculations fire after the variance and you get incorrect results).
In looking at your requirement, you don't really need a variance that calls out dynamic time series members. Simply create a variance scenario with a formula like @VARPER("Budget", "Actual");. If you have "Y-T-D(Oct)" selected as your time period in your form or spreadsheet, and "Bud vs Act %" (this is your new variance scenario) selected, it will calculate the YTD variance for October, or whatever time period you have selected.
    Just to recap:
    1) Create a new scenario called "Bud vs Act %". Make it dynamic and two-pass. Give it a formula of @VARPER("Budget", "Actual");
    2) Scrap your business rule. Add other variance scenarios as needed.
    3) Add your YTD member and your variance scenario to a form, and test.
    Hope this helps,
    - Jake

  • Customizable checkbox at IF/THEN Business Rule Editor

    Hello.
Does anyone know what "Customizable" checkbox is for? It can be found at Business Rule Editor on IF/THEN view: if you click any test or action parameter you will see in in popup. I have not found clues in documentation.
Here is the scrrenshot: View image: business rules

I have found this section in documentation of the rule engine
    1.3.5.2 Constraint Definitions
Constraint definitions let you mark portions of rules as customizable. For example, the discount to offer to a Gold customer could be constrained to be within a specified range such as 5 to 25 percent. Using Rule Author, by defining a constraint, you can select a value from within the specified range using a special interface that does not allow you to modify the entire rule.
My thought is that if you check the box you can fine grain a specific rule on runtime.

  • Oracle Business Rules with BPM

    Hi
Please explain how to use Oracle Business Rules in Oracle BPM enterprise and Oracle BPM studio.
Also please provide links for documents if available.
    Thanks in advance

It's a good question for which I do not have the answer! I would also want to see some documentation or insights about the integration of OBR and BPM. Will be monitoring this thread.

  • Launch business rules from Planning

    Hi,
I created a business rule "xyz" in EAS console with necessary validations and user/group security. I would want to associate this rule to a data form in planning.
During data form design , the business rule "xyz" is not showing up in the available list of rules.
    What needs to be done..?
Created planning application using classic app wizard.
    Thanks.

One other thing to check for if you are using a version prior to 11 is that the file HBRServer.properties is in the correct folder within the planning web application.
For example on tomcat it would be :- \Hyperion\deployments\Tomcat5\HyperionPlanning\webapps\HyperionPlanning\WEB-INF\classes

  • Cannot see existing Business Rules in Hyperion Planning ?

    Hello,
    I'm working on Planning 9.3.1.2 :
I've developped several Business Rules with the EAS console (theses HBR are attached to a project).
But when I open the application in Hyperion Planning with my admin accounts. I can't see any Business Rules in the list of Business Rules, only Calc sCripts.
Is anyone as an idea ?
    Thanks for your help.
    Best regards

    1. Make sure that you have used the planning outline and not the Essbase outline to develop the rules.
    2. Also access needs to be given to the rules for a location (even to admin - somtimes). Ensure that you have given the access rights correctly.

  • Business Rules Error : Exception Occured.

    Hi Everyone,
I have a problem with business rules , an error message is Exception Occured.
I already restart all services, but this error still appear.
    Please help ...
    Thanks
    Een

If you are doing this in planning, you need to go to Business Rules repostiory in EAS and make the rules available for the planning application and also define access. Open the rule and go to Location Aliases to do this, you can also assign access at the same place.
If you are already in EAS and cant open or Delete the rules you might not have appropriate access to the Business rules repository. check your access

  • Business rule migration

    Gurus,
I have a question about BR migration.
It is 11.1.2.1, and I have some BRs in my planning application.
I want to migrate the BRs from one environment to another.
In order to do that, can I export business rules from the source (by right-clicking the BUSINESS RULES node in EAS) and then import them in the target environment EAS. If so, is there anyhthing specific that I need to follow, for example any file system to save it to or I can save anywhere, etc like that.
And do I need to do anything after I export-import the business rules?
    Any suggestions would be great.
    Thanks

Thanks John for your quick response.
When you mean by dependants, what does it really imply? If you could write a little about it, it would be awesome.
Also, is there a rule as to what should be exported-imported first while we are using the LCM tool?
    Thanks again.
