Business Subscription Based Website with PDF/.doc downloads

I'm new to the Apple world and LOVE IT! I am beginning the design of a business website and trying to use iWeb. I'm not sure it will support two critical functions: 1) subscription based service - I saw the topics of using PayPal for retail but what if the readers are paid subscribers with automated monthly draft fee. individual login/passwords will be required. recommendations? 2) Subscribers will view pdf/.doc files and then download to their own computers. I saw two postings indicating concerns about document sizes. We are a research based company and our analysis what the members are buying, thus, they may be downloading several large documents weekly. We anticipate ultimately 2000-5000 subscribers. Yup, the range is pretty large because we need to prove ourself. We estimate starting with 100 but hitting 2000 within 6 months. If business takes off, we may need to go to a traditional website developer but proof-of-concept is needed for additional funding.
Do you recommend MobileME for this volume? We were planning on a traditional hosting company. Thanks!

MobileMe would be no use for this as it doesn't have the ability to run scripts.

Weird problem with PDF docs

So this doesn't have anything to do with Apple per se, everyone on this board has always been so helpful. For the past few weeks, I have been unable to view any PDF documents. (It was the same for anything flash on a website, but that mysteriously fixed itself.) I've downloaded Adobe about 5 times, no luck. I never had this problem before. It's so annoying because when I need to see a PDF doc I have to use my boyfriend's Dell (UHG!!!) Please help! Thanks

Thanks for your reply. I used your advise (sort of) to open PDF docs. I figured out that if I right-click on the link and "save link to desktop" I can then right-click on the file and choose "open with preview." It's kinda a pain in the butt, but at least it opens. Thanks!

Problem with pdf display downloaded from application server

Hi all,
I have a problem with displaying pdf downloaded from application server (saved in BINARY MODE).
I am getting the pdf output of adobe form in FPFORMOUTPUT-PDF as rawstring back to my program and then converting that rawstring into binary form using the function module SCMS_BINARY_TO_STRING.
Now, when I export the data to presentation server directly using cl_gui_frontend_services=>gui_download, the pdf is downloaded properly.
However, when I save the data to application server file by looping at the internal table obtained from SCMS_XSTRING_TO_BINARY and using TRANSFER, and subsequently downloading the file in "unconverted format" from AL11 to my desktop, I am getting a "blank" pdf file (with the same number of pages as the one downloaded using gui_download).
I have tried different encodings during download but in those cases i get corrupted pdf message. only the default option of INTIAL value seems to work.
I am forced to believe that there is a problem in my code which saves the data to app server but I cant find any solution that is logical. Any solution to this would be greatly appreciated.

used a program to read the file from appl server and then downloading it to desktop.

BLOB Column with PDF docs

I already read a different ways to extract the PDF docs from oracle table and open it through forms. All of them with java classes, webutil integration and dbms_lob.
But, if I need an other way to show it (select the column and open it) through the forms module, I can do it. Like Developer 6i, we can defined a OLE container field in forms and query the table and show the BLOB data.
This are my scenerio:
Oracle DB: EE 9.2.0.6.0
Developer: 6i Rel 2 & 10g v. 10.1.2.0.2 (for test and eventually for migrate to production environment, with iAS R 9i)
I already read if I need to use java, dbms_lob or webutil, I need to use it through iAS and in some cases I need to create a DAD.
But, If have 10g in developer enviroment just for test and I don't want to use a iAS, do I have any other way to select a BLOB column (with a PDF files store in there) from a oracle table and be able to open it with acorbat reader.

Rechecked and was not logged on to user, checked the error view and got

searched some of the articles here on this error, checked that listener was running correctly for extproc, added to the listener the ENVS=LD_LIBRARY_PATH line
added roles, resource, connect, ctxapp
added to PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATHs,
but still get the above error
does work though for simple text insert case, so seems to be related to documents in a blob field. Any other suggestions or queries that I can do to troubleshoot this? Could it be the way it is loaded?

What do I need to open pdf docs on Safari for SnowLeopard? Out of the blue and "capute" I'm not able to see pdf docs anymore.

Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Help with PDF form download

Could anyone help please. I have completed a form and saved it, then I went back into it and made a couple of changes and now I cannot download it as a PDF file. Here is the error message I keep getting
There is nothing else open on my mac, so I don't understand it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi;
The general things to try are:
1) Make sure that youdo not have the file open, close any applications that might have had the file open
2) Make sure you are saving to a location you can "write" to, such as your Desktop (not a read only location)
3) Try giving the file a new name when saving (you probably need to add ".pdf" or you might end up with a file with no extension and you'd get another error message)
4) Try restarting the web browser
5) Try another web browser
6) If all else fails restart your computer and try again
Let me know if those do not get you going again.

To create PDF files there are 2 ways to do so.
A) Using web ui"
Log into https://createpdf.acrobat.com/signin.html with your Adobe ID and password
Select “Convert to PDF”
Click “Select Files” button then choose your file
Click “Download” button in the progress bar after completion of the process to download the PDF file to your computer.
B) Install Adobe CreatePDF Desktop printer on your computer(Win only)
Log into https://createpdf.acrobat.com/signin.html with your Adobe ID and password
Select “Convert to PDF” tool from right pane
Click “Download CreatePDF Desktop Tool” link
Click “Download Installer” button
Click “AdobeCreatePDFDesktopPrinterSetup.exe” file
During the installation , you need to enter your Adobe ID and password
Restart Windows

Printer Configure port dialog can be found at Control Panel> Devices and Printers >Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer then click right mouse to open "Printer Properties". Select "Ports" tab.

I am helping a friend with his webpage. NOT A PROFESSIONAL
WEB DESIGNER, just know a little bit (smile)
he wanted me to set up his page so when visitors come to his
page they can click and PDF or Word document will bring up a box
for them to download the white paper.
How do I do this with dreamweaver mx? or can it be done? I
know I have visited sites and I can click on a hyperlink and the
pdf will display or I can download it.

Firefox 4.0 does not open websites with PDFs?

Hello, the new Firefox does not seem to work well with websites that have embedded PDF's. And PDF's in general don’t seem to work very well, often I have to right click the link and save to desktop and then open the file. Any suggestions here? I had no problems with 3.6.

Templates: Is it impossible to create a template-based website with pages in multiple sub-folders?

When creating html files from a Dreamweaver template, any subsequent update to the .dwt file resets all paths within the document's uneditable regions, undoing the initial "update links" option prompted on first save. This "update links" option, if available after each save of the template file, would be very handy for maintaining link integrity throughout a multi-level site's components (navigation, for instance). However, the option is only available when creating a new file from the template.
For example, if I create "file1.html" in "folder1" from the "template.dwt" template in "/Templates" , I am prompted on save to update the links in that file. This option would change a link (in an uneditable region) in "file1.html" from "css/style.css" to "../css/style.css" to accommodate the location of "file1.html" within "folder1". Good stuff.
However, when I save the .dwt file again, with any sort of update, this "../ " is removed from "file1.html" 's links, breaking every link in that file. When using Dreamweaver to create a multi-page site in several folders, I am saddened at the thought of hand-coding and copying/pasting navigation instead of using templates. Is there any workaround? I tried your suggestion and recreated the site cache each time I saved or modified anything, but the same problem persists. Here's what I did:
I created /template-test1.html in the site root, from the template (the "update page when template updates" option was checked).
This file included <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css">, as the template did.
I recreated the cache.
Then, I did a Save-As to /folder, so the file is now at /folder/template-test1.html
I was prompted to update links, and I clicked yes.
This updated the file to include <link rel="stylesheet" href="../css/style.css">, correctly modified from the original template.
I recreated the cache.
I updated and re-saved the template file.
It reset the link to <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css"> to match the original template's, breaking my link.
Possible Solution:
Should I switch to setting absolute site-relative links instead of relative links? I've only ever used relative links in my sites, and don't want to have to worry about the issues that arise from that. (The website I'm working on is being constantly restructured, so folder names may change a few times before the site goes live.) However, with all pages relative to the root, I wouldn't have any pathing problems when I update the template.

Do you get an error message when you try to export your file? Or, are you continually asked to subscribe when you try to convert a link? If it's the latter, it could be that you just haven't signed in to the app yet. Try this:
From the ExportPDF website, click Sign in at the upper-right corner, and log in to the service with your Adobe ID credentials. Now, when you click ExportPDF, you'll be prompted to select PDF files to export, instead of being asked to subscribe.
If you're receiving an error message when you try to log in, let us know what it is, and we can go from there.

Cannot open pdf files from websites with Adobe Acrobat X

Since purchasing and having my IT technician install Adobe Acrobat X, I can no longer open pdf documents that are hosted on websites. We have many pdf documents on our business network and MS SharePoint sites. Since the upgrade these will not open directly when selected in the MS Browser. I can download the files to my computer and then open them. I see the same issue with pdf documents hosted on "outside" websites. I have set associations to pdf files to Adobe Acrobat 10 rather than the reader that is also installed on this machine but still have this same issue.
The error message window that opens in the browser says, "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (1:1)
I have tried with the Adobe application running and with it not running and there is no difference.
Is there something I can check or have my IT technician check to try and get this issue resolved?
I am runing Windows XP Professional with the latest service packs.
I am using Internet Explorer 8

Here's the link to the KB article that gives the details of how to configure the SharePoint server for Acrobat X. These changes enable PDF files opened directly from the SharePoint browser to be recognized as SharePoint files by Acrobat and this can be verified by going to the File menu in Acrobat. The File menu will have a menu item SharePoint Server.
